This game is soooo close to being a recommendation, but it's just not there. And it's a shame since the first few hours were a blast and the overall mood/theme of the game is great I'll keep it short, since all the other reviews are really going to cover everything pretty well: There's some balance issues with the skills and skill tree that can leave you with a pretty terrible build pretty quickly without much recourse The difficulty ramps up way to fast as you beat sections of the map The…

Made by one person alone afaik. Let's put something on perspective here: How can we, in a sound mind, be so nitpicky about a game that runs like a breeze, plays so well and feels so satisfying with its mechanics and forget how many AAA devs with half a billion budget are not even able to deliver satisfying shooting mechanics on a multiplayer game? Indeed the game is not perfect and yes it does get a bit repetitive wich is fairly common in roguelites but i'm of the opinion there needs to be a…

Dust and Neon is a fun game. The wild west theming is perfect, and the characters are authentic. I enjoy Dust and Neon for what it is but I have some issues with the game that I hope are addressed in the future. Buying Dust and Neon right now is a mistake. Despite having a slick art style, cool characters, and a rad premise the gameplay needs to catch up on many levels. I found the cover system to be lacking and often I would have to go out of my way to take cover. The enemy AI would either…

I was in the mood for a good rogue-like, so when sales came on I bought a bunch of them. Honestly, I am a bit surprised by some of the reviews, although I note they were written before the latest major update in June. First off as a rogue-like, I am surprised at people commenting that you lose your guns when you die. Guns are pretty much the only progression that resets in this, and the point of rogue-likes IS that some progress is reset. Everything else stays, you are not starting over the…

Played the game. Dropped it for some time. Picked it back up some time later. Remembered why I dropped it. The core of Dust and Neon's game-play is solid. Running for cover, manual reloads, and shooting at enemies are fun mechanics in their own right. Using your different types of weapons for different situations is good too. However, that's where the fun factor stops. Progressing in this game is extremely grindy. You not only have to grind missions for levels to take on bosses, you need to…

I bought this game on sale for $8, and after 100%'ing it I can say it was a pretty worth while purchase. I can see why people wouldn't recommend it if they bought it for the original $30 it released at, but I think its a nice little game for around $10. The game starts off pretty strong, giving me vibes very similar to Synthetik - running around blasting robots while dodging bullets and having to manually reload your weapons all in the name of humanity. The very unique reloading mechanic and…

Decent gameplay but zero mission variety makes this grindy roguelite unfun. Every gun feels the same, no in-mission upgrades/etc., massive mission failure penalty, meta progression is just buffs that add no new mechanics and take forever to unlock. Once you've seen every level type (4? 5?) you've seen the entire game. Not worth playing.

Dust & Neon is mostly a mixed bag for me. There’s something quality in it—slick visuals, a fun setting, and a memorable reload mechanic. But then there’s a lot that feels half baked. The game gets repetitive, sure, but that could be easily rectified with better rewards per level. Cutting the skill points rewards past level 30 by half really slows the game down. At a time when you should feel more capable, you end up feeling less so because everything except boss levels scales with you. The…

One of my favorite new Rogulikes for 2023 and by a single developer, which is amazing. Not sure why people are complaining about the price in other reviews. $19.99 seems totally reasonable price.

Played it on Next Fest. Bought it. Played an hour. Refunded. It feels like a REALLY REALLY polished alpha build. The gunplay is absolutely fantastic. The reload mechanic is very well implemented. The styling and colors of the game are really cohesive and looks great. It feels like it needs a LOT more to be a really good game. The upgrades are all functionally pointless numbers. The differences between the guns in the game are almost meaningless. There's some serious potential to have an…

This is like a 3/5 for me. More good than bad but also kind of blazeé. Stand-out Good: * Lots of weapons. They understood the assignment when they said 'roguelite'. * A nice blend of twin-stick but also sort of a lowkey Hotline Miami vibe. It wasn't all of one or the other. Meh: * There was a lot of walking and could have used a bit more action. I can't put my finger on it, but it came across as tedious. * Sound wasn't bad, but a little bit of 'umph' would do wonders here. I'd pick…

If you wanted a game that is a cross of rogue lite, westerns, scifi, and rogue lite, then this is the game that you need. Every several seconds, you'll have to manually reload as you blow up robots while finding cover and dodging. To add to the stress, you'll lose your legendary weapons if you make a mistake. Unless you have the $$$ to buy it back at a steep price.

While the game looks good and is fun to play, not being able to remap the control keys is a big no no for me (I do not use a qwerty keyboard and so the keys are not well placed). Could I use a controller? Sure but I do not enjoy gaming with it so I asked for a refund.

Another difficult one to wholeheartedly recommend. I'm ultimately giving it thumbs-down because, while I did have fun, like many roguelikes I've played it overstayed its welcome with a loop that became repetitive long before the conclusion and not much to incentivize me getting there. My obvious point of comparison is West of Dead, with which it shares the same isometric perspective, emphasis on fast, cover-based gunplay and, frankly, flaws. I will give D&N for being tighter and more…

Very light on lore, pretty repetitive and grindy, and definitely not worth the asking price of $20. The only good thing going for it is the actual twin-stick shooter gameplay with manual reload mechanics. Wish the game got more time in the oven in all other areas of importance, but I guess that people who like fun-but-repetitive gameplay might like this game despite its glaring shortcomings.

Dust & Neon's aesthetics, music, and weaponry evokes the spirit of Borderlands within the world of Pandora. It feels like a top-down rendition of Borderlands, infused with elements of roguelite gameplay, which contributes to both its strengths and weaknesses. On the positive side, the combat is engaging, featuring a fun reload mechanism and good boss encounters. However, after beating all the bosses few times it starts to wear its magic down, and certain events devolve into a repetitive…

6.5/10 Dust and Neon is a flawed but good game. Pros: * The gameplay is fun. The manual reload mechanic is really cool, and it gives a deliberate feel to the gameplay (at least parts of it). I had several golden moments where I felt like John Wick; a master of precision, walking into a room, evaluating the number enemies, and taking them out, one by one. * The sound design is also good; guns generally sound punchy, pickups feel good to collect. * 5 of the 6 bosses were really fun, and I…

I found this game to be an arcady roguelite isometric shooter with combat that is too repetitive and fast-paced for me personally to enjoy. There is no single player campaign. You just go on roguelite runs in levels where you accumulate XP until you face a boss. Difficulty is also forced in these levels with only a few that are easy and the remaining being medium to hard. Levels also look exactly the same, taking place in a desert western setting with fences that create a maze. And I found…

Dust & Neon is a roguelite twin-stick shooter that is set in a futuristic Wild West world. You play as a legendary gunslinger that has been brought back to life from the past by a mad scientist. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/9wMsyAjI_uc There are three types of weapons (revolver, shotgun and rifle), sprint button, aim button, shooting button, reload button and a dodge roll. Dust & Neon is a weird one......it lacks content....different enemy types....feels a little repetative and the environments feel very samey.....that being said the combat mechanics are absolutely beautiful! the gun and cover system is very refined and polished, this is what makes this game so addictive. Dust & neon: mixed review from the outset, dust and neon is a casual style twin sticks action roguelike that incorporates permanent xp progression to unlocking boss encounters. The issue with the xp gating is that it becomes heavily padded towards progress/light on content, such as not allowing xp to carry over on rank up. The reload animation is merely a gimmick as you will be watching the reload circle instead. Even 75% sale is overpriced for what you get 5/10. Average completion time: 15+…

Likes: Cool Art style. First 90 minutes of missions were enjoyable. I would have been happy to pay $5 this game, but no more than that. Dislikes: Replay loop is too limited, with only a few variations on missions that stop feeling fresh after the first hour. The duck--and-cover based combat system is clunky and has a low skill cap. Weapon variety is severely limited and there's no real strategy for choosing which new weapon to pick up beyond checking the damage and ammo capacity. Manually…

Based on the videos, I expected it to be more fast paced, but its actually more deliberate and strategic and less button spammy, which is a very welcome change of pace from your average, generic twin stick shooter. I'm enjoying it far more than I expected. Due to the limited ammo, sneak attacks, cover and accuracy seem to the be the best plan. I think the game would have sold far better if they were more true to how the game is in the trailer.

I really wanted to like this game. It caught my attention when it released about a year ago, but I held off based on some of the reviews I read. After a year of patches, a significant 75% discount led me to finally try out Dust & Neon today, and I'm sad to say I've had a very mixed experience. Let's start with the good: when you're in the thick of combat, dodging for cover, blasting at enemies, and frantically reloading, the game feels utterly fantastic. There is no denying that the core…

A surprisingly fun and well-made gun-slinging action game! The most important part of this game - the combat - is incredibly well made. This really needs to be expanded upon by other developers, but having range, manual reload, auto-cover the way this game does it makes for a very enjoyable and satisfying experience. Also, most complaints from older reviews have obviously been fixed. The game is actually not punishing at all anymore, and there's quite a bit more variety in missions.…

Also love these physics where robots dropping dead/flying away from your bullets like they were hit by a truck, pretty funny. Visuals and the idea at first was cool, but gameplay quickly becomes mind numbingly boring, having to grind out the same levels when stuck at a boss. This game has tons of potential, but unfortunately, it isn't fun and, as a whole, frustrating. 1. The cover mechanism doesn't work sometimes, which results in getting shredded. 2. Using an elevator, then down and back up, will lead to enemies stacking at the elevator, resulting in getting shredded. 3. The defuse bomb game is impossible at times. This plays a lot slower than what the previews show. From the artstyle and everything, it feels like the game should be a lot more dynamic and chaotic, but the game is very simplistic, where you're just moving and shooting. Not even a melee attack, any throwables, or any kind of ability. Reloading feels slow, and your other guns don't automatically reload when unequipped. There's something about the mechanics of Dust & Neon that makes this game very appealing to me. It's the most fun I've had with a twin stick shooter since Hotline Miami I think. There's definitely a challenge here, but you do get used to it rather quickly and reloading those guns and counting your shots becomes a second nature. Short, sweet, does what it sets out to do A twin-stick looter shooter with robots in a wild west theme Movement and aiming are very solid with a simple but very effective cover-shooting mechanic The colours and aesthetics of the world match the genre and the vibe of what should be two incongruent themes, so well done The sound design of the guns, as well as the reloading gimmick are quite satisfying to hear/see, even hours into the game Although I did find a few times the gun on the screen…
