Gameplay loop: 1) You start with 3 cards (attacks) 2) Go through maze 3) Use currency to buy upgrades / new cards at the end of the the level? 4) Every 2 levels or so there is a boss. 5) Did you beat the boss? If so go on! If not go back to 1 Why I recommend it: * The gameplay is fast. I'm not a fan of slow prodding combat. * You can really play with your attack (card) loadout. With 4 slots and 4 upgrade slot you can lots of choices to play with different attacks * The runs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I originally was going to give Dandy Ace a 2.5/5, but the more I wrote this piece the more I was convinced it deserved a 2/5 On my scale, a 2/5 game is disappointing, unfun, or otherwise not worth the purchase price. There are definitely better alternatives, and I highly recommend you consider finding one of those. I’ll be blunt. Dandy Ace is not a bad game, it just is plagued by the weaknesses of the roguelike genre and succumbs to them. It is a game with a lot of charm, nice animations,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR; Just play Hades, this won't scratch the itch for a good action roguelite. I bought Dandy Ace thinking this would fulfil my need for more roguelites. The card system is a neat idea, allowing skills to be mapped where I like with modifiers to make them further adhere to my playstyle. However, the cooldowns take so long that I feel like I throw out all my attacks, then wait a few seconds to do anything. In these action roguelite games, a few seconds feels like an eternity. The enemies can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to love this game but it needs some problems to be fixed! I have died too many times because of enemies attacking me outside of the screen, so please make a zoom option As you unlock more and more cards, you get weaker and weaker becase now you have less chance for the great card skills to be dropped
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5.4 hours, 0 deaths, beat the entire game i.e. normal, hard, very hard, and nightmare mode back to back. That should not be a thing for a game that is a rogue lite. The game has a nice cool system with the cards having a main effect and modifier effect, but the gameplay itself really falls short. The whole game I was mostly just using ranged abilities and just back pedaling - only dashing backward when necessary. Very stale gameplay. The bosses aren't that hard except for the last one which…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun combination of Hades and Dead Cells, with a bit difficulty of The Binding of Isaac. Damn, I love this game too!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of 2025 there are far better Isometric Action Rogue-likes games that's gonna scratch your Hades itch a lot more. It's not a bad game, but it does feel a little clunky.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. I just want to mention that if you are coming here from Hades, then this isn't it. It does have inspiration from it, the penultimate boss is practically Hades himself but on crack. This game is closer to Enter the Gungeon than it is to Hades in my opinion. The screen will fill with so many projectiles from both you and the enemy, that it will feel like a bullet hell. It gets to the point where my PC has some crazy FPS drops from time to time due to the insane amount of chaos at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although the game gets many things right, there are a few major flaws which are a deal breaker to me. First I really like a few mechanics I recognise from Transistor and Dead Cells, which I really like. For example every card has an effect as an ability and a different one as modifier, or the flask that gets less refills as the difficulty level rises. Now for the things I don't like.. the game is isometric but the map isn't aligned with the moving direction!! Also the dash/dodge will stop any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to recommend this but I really can't The comparisons to Hades are inevitable but let me get that out of the way by saying that it's more like Bastion with the combat of Transistor (without Turn() mode) but less smooth while being simultaneously slower and faster than Hades (because movement is janky and there's no grace period after taking damage it feels both slower and faster). Anyway, it's unfortunate because there's a metric ton of content in the game. The problem is that it's not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So i picked this game up in a sale and thought i'd give another rougelite a try, the game is an isometric rougelite with a magician themed story and visuals to match. The gameplay plays exactly like hades, but just terribly more clunky and without the fluidity of the game, the cards you get are usable in different slots and can be upgraded based on what you pair them with, this mechanic sounds cool but just comes across as overly complex for no real reason, its hard to tell what effect im…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Admit it, dev. You've played Hades, Dead Cells, Bastion, and lots of League of Legend (esp Twisted Fate and Ahri) Dandy Ace is a small game, but it knows exactly what it is and masterfully keeps players engaged. I had a blast mixing and matching the cards, and it’s one of the few games—since Dead Cells—that constantly tempts me into going for 'just one more run. Need I say more?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat is good and enemies are varied. But game is too short, easy and with few bosses.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hesitant recc, here. This game has a lot of potential, and beyond that it's already pretty great. However I think warnings are in order: (1) This ain't Hades. The characters and design is absolutely wonderful, but don't buy or play this for story. You'll be disappointed, understandably Hades' dialogue system can't be matched but as it is, dialogue here isn't trying to use Hades' system or any meaningful one whatsoever. Expect lots of repeated dialogue as you play, expect- well don't expect…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to try my best to say this without coming across as an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Bear with me. Dandy Ace is a game that looked at several other roguelites and dared to ask the question: what if that, but it's about goofy stage-magician-wizards? It is that, and nothing more. Dandy Ace does not bring anything new to the genre whatsoever. The aesthetic is fun, the writing amusing, but after 7 hours I can only conclude it's just not for me. The sad reality is that Dandy Ace is a game on the same store…

unlabelledView post →This is an overlooked, possibly misunderstood gem of a game. It is pretty dang tough, but seemingly out of nowhere, there was a recent update to the game to make it easier by letting you get a health flask to heal earlier in the game. After about 3.5 hours of playing, I got my first win and considering how short the runs are, this was probably around 10 attempts. Fortunately, there are 3 more difficulties higher than normal mode, so there is a reason to keep playing. I really like how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As an avid roguelite? roguelike? enjoyer? It was fun and had some great ideas in there. Has room for some cool combos and the gameplay is smooth. Not super challenging, not much story. Beaten all difficulties in under 10 hours. A couple small cons: Pink cards balance might be a bit lacking, announcer voice could have had an option to be disabled.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game very similar to Hades, however way more harder as far as i played, you really need to time things and know what your doing or else you will never get far. A great game non the less glad to have it part of my library!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game to kill some time. It seems hard but at some point you just get the hang out of it. Look at me: 3.5 hours in and i managed to finish the boss! In easy mode. Edit: After trying a few runs in hard mode, let me say this: It doesnt end with a run in normal mode. There is more to the game. The enemies spawn now in different areas and the boss arenas (3 in total per run) now have traps and the bosses have some new variation of their abilities. Yepp, definitely fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can call it a short, light, and decent Hades "clone" even though it's not that similar of an experience. Most of the gameplay and especially wave-clears are way easier than Hades since you can always move backwards and play safely. The final boss fight on Nightmare Difficulty wasn't quite easy though, I gotta add. Don't expect anything in terms of story. It took me around 26 hours to get 100% completion and I didn't go all in like a pro tryhard gamer. Listened to music, watched videos…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like Hades, doesn't it? Looks can be deceiving. It's pedigree is almost entirely from Dead Cells, down to the teleporters, branching paths, droppable heals, and trading "cells" for permanent upgrades. On that foundation it builds its own thing, and does it reasonably well. You have four card slots, for every face button on the controller. You can assign any card to any slot. There are three types of cards: blue (dodges), yellow (long cooldown special attacks) and pink (spammable…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is boring not fun at all u start always at beginning and u do same stuff allover i hate how monsters appear out of nowhere over and over again cards are boring and hard to change in inventory poor man diablo or hades
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better play Hades.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a delight, really, with such great voice actors that even I have to play it on PT-BR! and I often don't like the dubs, truly a achivement and not bias. There's no need to mention the visuals, just look at them and you'll love them! Gameplay wise it's different enough to stand out a bit from other rogue-likes of simillar playstyle, the difficulty I would say relies more on RNG of the cards you'll be able to get than the actual bosses or enemies. I promise I'll come back to finish…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If the enemies didn't attack so fast and weren't so bullet spongey, I would enjoy the game. The bosses are the biggest example. This just feel unfair even on normal difficulty.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game felt clunky and unfair.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It just feels off and empty. The controls aren't satisfying, the enemies are annoying and not challenging, the story is uninteresting, the voice acting is annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →no iframe on roll dodge means you need to kite to avoid damage. GL kiting in trap rooms especially with buff/heal totems in the middle. bosses might seem a bit too overtuned in the sense that you cant really dodge faster than they can spam their attacks and skills
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game has made me fear mirrors. thanks mad mimic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hades with some magic trick
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expected a fun spinoff of Hades and I got a clunky, awkward girly game that feels like it was made for mobile
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like that Dead Cells / Hades genre and you're looking for something in that vein, I think you should pick this up on sale and give it a shot. For me, it didn't quite live up to other games in that genre, so I put it down after awhile - but I still recognize the quality of it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I enjoy rogue likes, I can safely say this one is not for me. The rooms are too similar, enemy variety is lacking, combat is not enjoyable in the slightest. There's no real strategy other than getting bigger numbers on the cards you picked up initially. Then the levels are just one slog to dash to the end till you eventually get to the boss room. Then it's the narration. Christ, the narration. So nasally and cringe. It's a shame I realised too late that you can mute the narrator.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ll admit upfront I’m not the biggest fan of rogue likes, but sometimes one sneaks through and clicks with me, this just wasn’t it. It feels like it wants to be the next Hades, but instead it’s a deck of flashy cards without much substance to back them up, like getting the same bad hand in poker every time. If you’re already in love with this genre, maybe there’s something here for you, but for me it was a reminder that only a rare few really grab my attention.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Challenging, but very fun! - Enemies are not too op, but enough to keep you alerted. - Took about 21h to get 100%. Tip: The initial cards are basically the best, so you might want to wait with unlocking the rest* of the cards until you manage to beat Lele in Nightmare mode (otherwise it might be harder to find the right build). * You should unlock a few cards, but not all (specifically pink card with bleed, and blue card with blink).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A solid dungeon crawler akin to hades. lots of variety and great voice acting. definitely worth the pickup
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a lot of substance but that doesn't stop this title from being quite fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →MIXED The game has some very cool ideas and is fun when it's fair, but that fun is hindered by very questionable design decisions. Reading the Steam forum, they seem intentional, which makes them all the more puzzling. Why would you make your game LESS fun on purpose? Dash have no invincibility, so they are a positioning tool and nothing more. That would be ok, if positioning would be strategic, but it doesn't due to the VERY SMALL arenas you are forced to fight in, with plenty of traps all…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hades with yugioh cards 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bland slog with a mediocre combat system that doesn't do enough to keep the game fresh. There's a lot of better rogue likes out there that are more engaging. This one does not bring enough fresh to separate it when other rogue can pull off a fun experience far better. Even enemy variety gets stale even. Not enough to separate it from crowd.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The amount of time I have put into this game with only earning like2 or 3 achievements is insane lol. this game just feels great to play. the way you build your skillset is sooo awesome, and just provides so many elements of experimentation to truly play how you uniquely would compared to others. -Love the magician theme... -the writing is silly but totally fits lol. -the permanent unlocks are awesome... This is a must grab at full price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A weak recommendation. Combat is above average in the genre, but the game locks the fun behind grind. Summary I appreciate a cool beverage on hot summer days, but not when I have to go out of my way to go to a store in the day's heat for a single bottle. That's how I feel about this game. It has me make a separate run for every small bottle, and it's not REALLY good enough to justify the work. In terms of gameplay it's the closest thing I have seen to Dead Cells in a top-down perspective…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just... meh. There's just no point in playing this in a world where Hades exists.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game looks cute, the abilities are decent. However, the game has no satisfaction. The gameplay is running around, stop, throw hundreds of card at the enemies (I still got the throwing sound in my ear, it's that annoying) and repeat. Played for 30 minutes and there was no real threat in the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't exactly recommend it yet, the skill floor is too high for the genre, there's no way to reduce the difficulty, and is very grind-intensive to unlock cards. Not saying I don't like it though. The art style is really good, there's no intricate gimmick, and every run is basically "just jump back right in", no lengthy wait nor long walk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No Invincible frames on the dash Runs are too long Not hitstun on ennemies so the game isn't based on reaction I wish I could like this game as a small Hades but even on the gameplay side it's clearly lacking. The card system is cool tho
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've beaten the first difficulty and I wanna write down my thoughts/impressions so far. I may update this review as I play more. Dancy Ace is a bit of a mixed bag. On one side, the goofy mood and graphics of the game deceptively hide the punishing difficulty. This game is pretty challenging. I've played hundreds of hours of Dead Cells and Hades, so I have a fair bit of roguelike experience. Dandy Ace has no parry, no i-frames on the dodge, no deflect, no block. The only way to defend yourself…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just realized something about the soundtrack for an underrated little game that is like Hades. It's called Dandy Ace! It's pretty good, although not as polished. But the soundtrack is kind of a banger, by Roberto Kramer. I am feverishly studying this music for the OST of my game FireHeart Saga.
unlabelledView post →Honestly, I was quite excited about this game due to the fact that it's a rogueiite and due to its aesthetic. As someone who came from Hades, I can say it's a fine game. Pros: - lovely aesthetic - music is good - card effects seem enticing enough - the card stacking mechanic doesn't seem that overpowered or redundant - quite simple to pick up gameplay-wise - premise seems ok Cons: - clunky movement in some areas (the dash should've been a default thing, not a card slot) - the cooldowns really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not 100% sure whether I am just tired, burnt out by similar types of games or what exactly but I'm 2 hours in and I'm struggling to continue. I was pumped about this one but something just didn't gel with me. I know I get very disheartened by difficult games but I hadn't played it long enough to get to the difficult part. I thought I would give it a break after my first time playing to see if it got better the second time and 20 mins in, I've lost interest again. I'm sorry this review is so…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is fun; idk how it only has 1k reviews 4 years after release. it definitely deserves way more praise
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →yeah no it does not click me , cool idea but nah hades or enter the gungeon is better
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game, I discovered it after the Hades era and it's a great choice for those who like this genre of game. The combat is good, and the powers too, I don't remember much about the story but I think it's ok, and the voice acting changes everything and makes the game much more fun to play!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun! However, I think repeating the same levels over and over is not very fun and the story is extremely poor.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not bad but not as good as it could be. It has a hades look, and a lot of abilities as well as cards you can add as secondary modifiers, so there is variety in that sense. Some of the abilities just suck, and melee is terrible so you are somewhat limited in that sense. So most of the game you use the same abilities with the same modifiers because others are too situational. Combat is limited, just hitting x, y, and b as soon as the cooldown while youre spamming blink. Later on between the…

unlabelledView post →Played the game on macOS Sonoma using xbox controller via bluetooth. But even with the controller connected, the game still showed prompts for keyboard and mouse controls. Fine, I still managed to move the character, but the real problem is with skill navigation. The game uses the cursor position instead of the controller's analog direction for skill casting direction. So I need to move the cursor using touchpad while moving the character and casting the skill. It's pretty rough and i couldn't…
