Drive My Car
Yusuke Kafuku, a stage actor and director, still unable, after two years, to cope with the loss of his beloved wife, accepts to direct Uncle Vanya at a theater festival in Hiroshima. There he meets Misaki, an introverted young woman, appointed to drive his car. In between rides, secrets from the past and heartfelt confessions will be unveiled. From TMDB

Still a nice little movie, though! I'll give it that!

unlabelledView post →This is random, but the movie Drive My Car (2021) has one of my favorite transitions ever, because it's about a guy who listens to tapes in his car and at one point you see the wheels of his car fade into becoming the rollers of a tape deck. Super clever.

It's amazing what good films come out of short stories - Shawshank Redemption, Arrival, Brokeback Mountain, The Third Man...

Hidetoshi Nishijima appearing in this and DRIVE MY CAR back to back has to be one of the wildest actor pivots in movie history.

All the tales are told from the perspective of men, though women (& memories of women) feature throughout. Some great stuff here. The story that the movie Drive My Car was inspired by is in this book. Liked it a lot.

I love Scorsese, PT Anderson, Ari Aster, Nicole Holofcener, Kubrick, Villeneuve, Kurosawa, Spielberg, the Coens, David Lynch etc. My favorite movie is Raiders of the Lost Ark, Alien, Drive My Car, The Big Lebowski, or Monty Python’s Life of Brian, depending on the day.
