Dr. Livingstone is a very well thought out adventure that tells a fictionalized account of the friendship between Henry Stanley and David Livingston. You play from the first person perspective of Henry and have arrived at David's house in Africa to check on his well being. You find the house in disarray and must work your way through looking for your friend. The game is like an 'escape the room' exercise with an ongoing narrative told through David's letters/memos and Henry's comments. You…

For 15 bucks, I was ripped off...:( Don't get me wrong--The people that designed the graphics did a fantastic job; as did the sound people. The game ran perfectly so the programmers were fantastic. SO, What was the problem? The puzzle designers were Lost In Space! Some of the puzzles were SO RIDICULOUS that, even after you Knew the answer, you would have to spend 'AGES' with the tedious nonsense of of trying to input it EXACTLY<<<An example would be a puzzle where you had Already Found a…

Dr Livingstone, I Presume? is an astonishingly beautiful escape room game based on historical characters and facts, yet the game’s narrative is given a slightly fictional interpretation, as envisioned by the creators. You take the role of the journalist Henry Morton Stanley, who receives a letter from his friend, David Livingstone - a renowned explorer - urgently asking for his help. While historically Stanley embarks on an expedition to Africa in search of the famous missionary who had…

Based on the 1939 film Stanley and Livingstone, Dr Livingstone, I presume? is a puzzle game immersed in the scenery of an African house, in which a whole series of puzzles try to prevent you from finding your missing friend. The difficulty level of the puzzles increases as the game progresses - the last room in the game is already quite demanding. Great music, it's very nice to listen to it even after playing the game. The graphics are very atmospheric - I have not seen any other production in…

This game could be great. You can see that I played it for 4 hours, which is a fairly chunky amount of time for a game I'm putting a thumbs-down for. The game has a lot of good puzzles. I love looking around, trying to find all the pieces, examining the rooms and puzzles, finding the solutions. Lots of good serotonin to be had. If you're one of the lucky people for whom this game will work properly, then you'll have a great time. But if you're like me, you'll struggle until you realize the…

when henry stanley receives a plea for help from renowned explorer and friend david livingstone, he immediately sets out to visit him, humming toto's africa under his mustache. upon his arrival, he finds the house empty, but he's determined to find out what happened. 'it's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you...' even though it's an escape room-like with some foreboding, it's just as much a touching story of friendship and reminiscing about the good old days, with stanley constantly…

Short run-of-the-mill puzzle game with a slightly interesting story. Just would like to point out that I was constantly getting soft locked from completing puzzles in the clinic. Other than that, I almost fell asleep which is the goal of these games anyway. Thanks for curing my insomnia and then waking me up with anger because of the buggy clinic level.

Dr Livingstone, I Presume? is a first person perspective adventure game, with a heavy emphasis on environmental puzzles, rather than inventory-based ones (although there's a couple of them here as well!) The game stars a friend of Dr Livingstone, who arrives at his house after receiving a worrying letter, only to find the place completely desolate. It's up to the player to solve puzzles, find notes and keys, gain access to subsequent rooms and finally piece everything together to find out what…

The gameplay was mostly tedious. The biggest challenge in the puzzles was finding objects in the rooms; floaty controls and a requirement of opening and checking countless drawers and cupboards with said controls. The logic required in solving puzzles was usually very easy or not particularly logical but solvable with some easy trial and error. Ultimately for a game that calls itself an escape room, puzzle quality should be very important, and I am afraid the puzzles here were just boring.…

Experience the reversed escape room game. is a very misleading statement. Because this is very much a pretty basic escape room game at its core and nothing special. But that is not the problem with it, because it is a decent even if pretty easy puzzle game. The first problem is the controls, they are just simply plain bad. They completely killed my enjoyment of the game. And the second problem is the fact there is just so many empty drawers/cupboards and unless items that you can't interact…

Well, humm. The house that the story takes place in looks nice, but otherwise there are a lot of frustrations. The narrator is very slow and the story doesn't have enough explanation to be understandable (and I read Henry Stanley's book!) The gestures for moving things are very difficult to accomplish, at least for me. taking long swipes with the mouse in unintuitive directions for even simple things like opening doors. Turn screws is worse and half the time I barely start them turning in…

I love escape room games and I just replayed The Room series again today before trying this out. The visuals, music, and story were good, but I could not get past the finicky controls and frustrating nature of many of the puzzles. The one inside the mannequin was the absolute worst! It's alright for what it is, but as much as I hate to say it I'm glad to be done with it.

What a disappointment. I'm a big fan of puzzle adventures but this is so poorly designed, it's amazing. I spent half an hour looking for some item in the kitchen and even after having found all items, I still don't understand what's going on or what you're suppose to do. And I'm not a puzzle novice. The gameplay is basically; walk around and grab items. Plug items in slots and guess what has happened or needs to happen next. I haven't played beyond the kitchen because it's simply too…

Poor controls, bad audio and visuals. It just isn't an enjoyable puzzle game. Controls are just a pain to deal with and involve the same mundane exaggerated mouse movements over and over again like cranking a wheel by moving your mouse from one side of your screen to the other a few dozen times because looks like it should work on screen doesn't, or you'll be sliding your mouse pointlessly in one direction several times to undo one of multiple screws. Really could have used some better…

The game has good puzzles, and a fun theme, but the controls are SO finicky and janky that it's just not worth playing, even if it were free. It would've been easy for the developers to fix, just let rotation be controlled with the keyboard instead of the mouse. As it is, this game is 25% solving puzzles, and 75% fighting the controls. Turning a key is half the game and this mechanic is completely broken.

The music & environment in this game are good and makes it very immersive. Unfortunately, that's about it for the good points. The game takes it a bit too far when 99% of the shelves and drawers you can open are filled with things that look like you could interact with, but can't. However, you do have to scan like crazy in the 1% of times to find a missing object, which makes the overall experience extremely frustrating. The story is also very boring and I could not care for either character,…

Dr Livingstone I Presume is a "chunky and clumsy" escape room game. The "Reversed Escape Room" doesn't made any difference between the traditional escape room game as I confirmed I cannot escape each room without solving all the puzzle, so why bother to say it's "Reversed"? Suppose I'm free to go home anytime compared to traditional escape room? I don't get it. The graphic is ugly and the low poly & minimal use of colours made the game way harder to find a object that it should be. Music is…

As a puzzle game with a nice story, Dr Livingstone can hold your tension over the chapters, though some items, you need to find, are not easy to spot. The graphics look nice, yet, for me they were not ideal to spot small objects. But this is a minor detail. On the whole, a well made game with a cleverly solved hint system: it comes as a journal, and gives nudges on how to proceed, in case you are stuck. The puzzles are varying in difficulty - all are solvable. I had a good time in the game…

I almost never leave negative reviews for games I don't like but this one was exceptionally bad. The camera movement feels nauseating, The story feels almost pointless. The title of 'reversed escape room' is incredibly misleading, it's literally just an escape room but you go deeper in instead of trying to exit. The puzzles are locked to screens which limits your actual interaction with the environment when trying to solve things. Some puzzles are so finicky that even after you solve them the…

There are some fun puzzles here and there, but generally I found myself underwhelmed and annoyed. I especially found the controls to be frustrating--I've played plenty of escape room type games using a trackpad just fine, but it felt very tedious here. Performance is not great for how the game looks, and there were persistent issues with texture filtering that made things quite ugly at random (perhaps related to alt-tabbing in and out of the game?) unless I went and switched texture quality in…

I was doing very well, but after arriving at the Clinic, I was unable to advance. Due to the fact that i was unable to grab an objective after completing the puzzle. this could be solved by including a "reset level" in order to fix this kind of bug in future. As it stands though I'd have to start a new game, with no guarantee that it would fix the problem. I even read a walk through in order to skip the puzzle and attempt to advance. I made it a little further just to have the game circle back…

Dr Livingstone, I Presume? is a puzzle game with some narrative elements whereby you are searching for your old friend in a house. First off, "Reversed Escape Room" is a completely irrelevant concept with no bearing whatsoever on the game or how its played; whether you need to exit several rooms to reach a final room or exit several rooms to reach outside makes no difference whatsoever. Secondly, the puzzles are mostly about finding the sometimes hard-to-spot item somewhere and then fiddle…

all in all, nice puzzler. but at least for me, everything was way too dark. I had to look up a walkthrough simply because I couldn't see stuff I should have been able to see. This game has no gamma slider in the options, so no way to improve it. Also, with just 4 hour of playtime (and that is with the darkness problem) this is pretty short for the price it asks. sadly, the demo will not help you determine if it's too dark, as that room is brightly lit. EDIT: confirmed fixed

i want to like this game more than i do. the writing is good. the visuals are gorgeous. the music is amazing. there's passion poured into every nook and cranny, and it shows. which is why it's such a shame that the gameplay features some of the most frustratingly obtuse puzzles i've ever seen in an escape room game. it's not that they're difficult-- most of them aren't. it's just that finding the items you need to complete them is nearly impossible, because there is little to no…

Motion blur is possible to be turned off only on the lowest possible "processing" setting. The controls are not smooth at all, to the point where I used a walkthrough to see how to solve some riddles because manouvering a mouse by myself was too much. And when I reached the 4th door, the game crashed and after reloading I'm stuck forever in the completed room, not being able to enter a new one. I usually try to complete all games but here I really wonder If I want to.

I liked this game very much. The story was interesting. I wanted to keep exploring and find out what happened to Dr. Livingstone. The music was relaxing and nonintrusive and the voice overs were well done. I also enjoyed the art work and graphics as I explored the house. The controls made me sick. The mouse feels hard to handle. And I don't understand which part is defined the Reversed Escape Room? As for the puzzles, some are pretty straightforward and easy, but others feel clunky or overly complicated. You might even need to take screenshots just to remember patterns or figure out how to assemble puzzles. Again, solving them feels more annoying because of the control issues. The idea of a reverse escape room sounds neat, but the execution is... kinda eh. The ability to open most drawers and cabinets doesn't add much since most of them have nothing useful or interesting inside. It's busywork. The puzzles aren't hard (I suck at puzzle games, btw), but one almost made me quit: the strange ball puzzle. You have to rotate four segments to match the shape of a lock. Sounds easy, right? A gentle game, if a little clunky to work with. I enjoyed the idea of the story. Really, there was no surprises, so it was just gently working through the puzzles. The interface is a little "wooden" if you will pardon the pun. It felt awkward at times, especially opening doors and draws. I think one can go for almost too much fine-grained interaction.
