Yes, it has a bit of charm, but I think it's all 'feels', really. I like the idea of what is being pushed, but when it comes down to brass tacks - it really isn't all that engaging or fun to play. Essentially, this is a 3D platformer with linear levels. The levels can feel sandboxy and open at times, but there is more-or-less a path you have to take to get to the end.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I discovered this game at VGM Con 2019, while there for a speedrun marathon; the devs (super cool people, btw) were showing it off. A couple friends and I thought it'd be fun to speedrun, and here I am almost two months later with over 50 hours into this game. Now, you're probably not planning to speedrun Newt One, but I'd still recommend it, especially if you're looking for a game to chill out with. The engine is good, you can play at your own pace, the game supports many types of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute and artistically creative, Newt One is very rough around the edges. It is a combatless 3d platformer collectathon with a bright cartoony aesthetic, visually a vibrant assault on the eyes with colour clashes all over the place. Cutscenes are a slideshow and I found the text for them was misaligned. There are four worlds with six levels each with a goal to ‘awaken’ the world - to do this you walk and jump around the level touching platforms and objects to bring the colour back to the world.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game does not have any controller support despite being marked as full controller support on the Steam Store page and on an update back in 2019 when the game was in Early Access. It's out of Early Access now and this issue is still not fixed, and the devs have not commented on this lack of controller support since 2019. I cannot recommend it in good faith as it stands.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game DOES NOT support controllers at all, despite advertising as full controller support. I need controller support for accessibility reasons so I was not able to play at all. (Note the play time is inflated by trying to fix the issue / forgetting to close the game window )
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I first played Newt One at my local gaming convention (2D Con in Minnesota) back in 2017. I was absolutely blown away! The art style, the music, the story, the adorable characters all drew me in and I was instantly hooked! I played the game far too much that weekend, and the next year too! I became one of the game tester volunteers, and it has been a joy to see how far the game has come from when I had first played it up to this point! I love this game, it's so fun and relaxing all at the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Says full controller support , does not even have partial controller support Xinput and Directinput does not even work , even steam controller does not work
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lies about having controller support and slippery movement. Really like the look of the game and the music theme but its just not fun in the slightest.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This looks like a very cute game that combines color and magic into the game play and just from the one level I managed to play through on my keyboard, I know that I'd like the game a lot. The game is fairly unplayable with the keyboard and mouse; it's clearly designed to have the smoother control and flow of an actual controller. However, despite the game stating that it's controller compatible, no amount of troubleshooting has been able to get the game to recognize my XBox 360 controller,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Newt One is awesome! It is certainly off the beaten track in terms of what you would expect from a 3D platformer, but that is kind of the point. At first glance, you would read the words "non-violent" and quickly discard the relevance of it, but as a parent to a younger guy, I completely appreciate Newt One and its Developers focus on this. It is no small thing to compete in the video game world and design a game that makes this center to its design. I would imagine it is so much harder to make…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Newt One is a surprisingly chill and relaxing experience. It isn't a deep and mentally taxing game, but rather keys into subtle progression in a relaxed mind. I may only have an hour logged on steam but have played it at a few conventions. It is loved greatly by my children.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a beautiful game with an interesting and vast world. The progression of the musical elements as you go through the level and colorize the world is absolutely breathtaking. The colors are vivid and the and all of the game elements are SO DARN CUTE! This is truly a masterpiece with both sound and substance.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Time Note: The game took me about 3hours to 100%. Cute, non-combat, 3D platformer where you play as Newt who has to restore color to the world. It really is a lot of fun at it's very core. The levels are fun and some of them really show the developers understanding of what a platformer should be. The game respects your time as a player. The music is wonderful yet simple. Each zone has it's own track that plays, but it plays for the all the levels in that zone. However the track doesn't get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Newt One is fairly easy but enjoyable non-violent platformer game where you have to restore color to the world by touching or using a wand or drum on colorless sections. The game is probably best suited for kids or people who just want to do something in a game that isn't too intense, I find it's fun to play for a world or two and then take a break. As far as the "musical" portion of the game, I think it's referring to how every time you touch something to color it, a sound is played and if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never knew a platformer could be relaxing before playing Newt One. The music and colors are amazing and the levels are challenging. I had a lot of fun with it when it was at PixelPop so I'm excited to see it here on Steam!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel like the game is supposed to be a relaxing time waster, but how can one relax when the controls make you so angry!Even if the controls were perfect, it is still a bit...dull.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Newt One is a cute, relaxing, and meditative experience. This game is not for hardcore players who want nearly impossible challenges, or someone who is looking for violence/combat. I think this game is perfect for young kids 6-12 who will enjoy the colors, characters, worlds, and bringing things to life! I normally don't write reviews for games, but the negative reviews for this game are really misguided and miss the point of this game. This is not cuphead or the hardest mario maker level. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely basic platformer with floating fairy like character. Gameplay consist of painting tiles by hovering above them or touching some flowers and trees. Small creatures appear forming stairs that can be jumped on leading to higher platforms. Visuals are shocking but even dialogs are misaligned. Clunky interface with weird controls, press specific button on keyboard assigned for each action in the menu. I had no idea how I got this game... terrible!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, relaxing jaunt through some pleasant worlds with pleasant music. Overall this game is a little charmer, I couldn't help but fall in love with the aesthetic and moment to moment gameplay. Turning everything from grayscale to color is very satisfying. First Look: https://youtu.be/jM1357AioAg
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I completed the first level 100% So, what did you do in your musical 3D platformer to complete it? I just ran into objects, till they got colorized. What, you were expecting something else? I sure was. If this evolves into some incredibly deep gameplay loop, don't think I'm going to see it. Here's the straight and narrow - the UI looks like a free to make engine was used, and only the most basic templates applied. You have no d-pad movement, every single option ( yes literally every option )…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a cute and super chill game! Super unique! Not sure if it's actually worth £7/$10, since it's pretty short (finished everything in around 3-4 hours, give or take) and simple, but hey... If you want the unique experience, go for it, I guess. Pros: - REALLY unique concept and super nice on the eye graphics. Love how new mechanics keep getting introduced so things stay fresh. Love how extra bits of music play when you restore stuff. I also love how the art style changes slightly when in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, colourful, fairly short game for all ages and skill levels. I will be the first to admit that I SUCK at platformers (I'm an adult but my reflexes are probably worse than the average 10-year-old's) but I really enjoyed this game! And there's plenty there for those with more skill too, in the form of optional challenge content. Overall, if you're looking for a fun and forgiving experience with a Lisa Frank colour palette, THIS IS THE GAME YOU NEED
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →underrated gem i got this from a humble bundle back in 2023, and i'm so glad i redeemed it BECAUSE THIS GAME IS SO SATISFYING, IT ITCHES WHATEVER I HAVE
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cute and colourful. love all the different outfits
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a rather cozy, relaxing, non-violent (no combat / enemies) musical 3d platformer collectathon. I got it because it reminded me of the N64 platformers, with the overworld serving as a hub to the other levels, plus the low-poly graphic style is one of my favorites, and it didn't disappoint. It has a nice twist on the collectathon genre - you don't need to gather thousands of items scattered all over the world, instead, every single element, be it an animal, plant or even the ground itself,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →5/10 nice short little game NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT!! awful unchangeable default controls
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No controller support despite being advertised, level SFX starts at half volume unless you manually restart each one after they're loaded, incredibly basic cutscenes and user interface fonts, the main gimmick of restoring color to the world felt tedious and sometimes awkward, etc etc. Under most circumstances I'm willing to look past technical issues (especially for indie developers) but Newt One sadly has practically nothing going for it from beginning to end that makes up for it. You…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is casual, it's relaxed, it's chill. These are not bad things. But I think this game is maybe a bit too causal, relaxed and chill. The gameplay itself isn't really enough to make me want to play more, and the controls are way too floaty for the game mechanics to be fun. (I.e. it's all too easy to accidentally float off the world. Which makes it frustrating to try to 100%, which is the only real driver in the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well aren't they so Adorable. They are adorable So I will ignore Shaking camera problem and Bugged panels and Icy control And 3D Dizziness problem and A lot of problems in here. I don't feel so good, I will go toilet and Bleuugh.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a wonderful, soothing experience Newt One is. Gameplay: The mechanics allowed you to dive right in and while there were items to be gained along the way each one worked intuitively without disrupting the flow. Flow is a great word to describe the gameplay of Newt One: you seamlessly move through levels and the platform elements are the perfect amount of challenging. The platforming brought to mind the Playstation One era where jumps had to be timed just right and platforms had to be hit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cute little game! I had a lot of fun with it. The visuals and little outfits were really cute, and the platforming and item-finding was simple but satisfying. I enjoyed the wands as a mechanic, because the touch-to-activate tiles probably would've gotten tedious eventually, and the wands helped greatly with that. The controls do feel a little floaty which made me less inclined to try for "perfect" levels where you don't fall, because if I had I feel like it would've gotten frustrating. I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclosure: I received this game for free and was paid to stream it. That being said, I liked it! Very charming. Newt is adorable, and I loved the outfits. Gameplay is very simple, but fun, and changes enough through levels to continue being fun. Definitely not hard, but not annoyingly easy either. Seems worth the price for the amount of content, and DEFINITELY a steal if it goes on sale. Just a good relaxing time. I hope they'll add more and maybe get voice acting and such.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Getting back on my stream routine. Testing out a capture card I got and playing some Newt One! A cute 3D platformer I want to speed run lol. Come say hey :D www.twitch.tv/wadamelon

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am not a platform gamer, I actually have very little experience with movement-based games in general, but I really like this. I will say I didn't pay full price for it and for more experienced gamers paying full-price they probably won't get a lot of playtime for their money, but for someone who is newer/worse at this type of game, it's fun and relaxing, there are a couple areas where it seems like you can get stuck but hitting the 'q' button will get you out of those situations, it is also…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If this was more fun, or had tighter controls, or mesmerizing visuals, I could possibly see it serving a purpose as a chill, sleepy little thing. But it's not, and it doesn't. It just feels like a student project in an introduction to 3D game programming class. (It also doesn't feature any controller support at all, even though it's listed as having it. I don't even think it allowed you customize the keyboard bindings.)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I wish the controls were a little tighter, I enjoyed my time with this game. The game is quite simple, but it is a very relaxing experience. Don't expect anything challenging. The game's music is excellent. Definitely the stand out component.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In this video I take a look at Newt One, a vibrant and colourful 3D platformer. This title is perfect for children, it's non violent and the purpose of the game is to colour the levels. It's also well made and enjoyable to play. The 3D levels have nice variation to them like platforms that appear only when you are close, moving platforms, and bounce platforms. Take a look, it's fun. Watch the video to see what the game is like..... https://youtu.be/6oOesmx1E4k Video curation, providing you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's so colourful and happy, It almost makes me want to vomit - but in a good way. This is a sweet little platformer indeed. A little addictive too, trying to touch everything awake with colour. Cute! https://youtu.be/O0qrDWJcnw0
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super fun and original platformer for completionists and people with OCD hahaha Touch everything you see to give it back it's colors. There are a couple different skills you can acquire to do different tasks. The style is very unique, almost gives off a bit of Sega Dreamcast vibes. It's not super challenging other than figuring out the routes, but overall it's pretty fun imho. I would put this in my "hidden gem" catagory
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game has a beautiful soundtrack, lovely visuals, and charming storytelling. the movement is a little slippery, which i think adds reasonable challenge to the levels. loving the different outfits and wands from each world. so cute!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, cute platformer. Great vibes, chilled music, and beautiful art. Controller support would have been great but it was easy enough to use M&K.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/bAJ4MKS-aOI Musical in style but not in substance the constant ice physics of play is a nonstop burden while trying to touch every platform and flower.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A peaceful platformer where you jump around and color your surroundings Q-Bert style. The problem is the controls feel very clunky and slippery, which leads to an uncomfortable and sluggish feeling game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quick Review "Newt One" is a small and cute adventure/platforming gaming with pretty simple mechanics and a pretty family friendly feeling overall, giving the players a short story to discover as they play. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really wholesome game - relaxing and easy to understand. The colorful world makes it pleasant to play. I would say tho that the controller doesn't seem to work, however the keyboard works perfectly.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a dedicated "get unstuck from the scenery" key. And why bother animating the main character when they can just float (even though her feet touch the ground). It plays like a half-arsed, early access attempt at a de Blob clone. So why the positive review? I completed the first level and I was going to hop on here and leave a scathing review. I completed the second - and kill me now - but I actually found myself enjoying it. There's a primal satisfaction to colouring in. Wait for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I previously Platinumed this game on PlayStation and have been following the games development a bit beforehand. I had a vague idea of what this game was going to be like before I started playing it. The game is a 3D platformer at its very core. You can float, jump and glide through hexagonal levels with the occasional button press for certain items. Controls do feel dated and floaty. There is also a lack of controller support so be warned. The game doesn't offer a lot of varied content but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't want to *not* recommend this game, since I can appreciate the love and imagination that went into it. It's colorful and filled with personality. I don't know how this game ended up in my library, but I'm glad it's there. But from a gameplay perspective, it's a pretty bare-bones 3D platformer without much interesting to offer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great aesthetics, but this game is ruined by being a very loosey-goosey pseudo-platformer that requires camera motion- a death knell for any game involving cliffs. This game just needs tighter mechanics What could/should have been an enjoyable experience is ruined by the stress of unnecessary tediuim.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like a quick whipped up cobbled together game. The player character behaves like a ball, but instantly stops once you let go of the movement. When trying to turn yourself around, this is very jarring. I need let go then move again to turn around instantly. If I did this like any other 3D game, momentum isn't preserved in the direction I was going but rather the direction I want to go.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, I have completed Newt One's entire first world. Newt One is a game that feels relatively amateur, and on several occasions I had to ask what the point of a level direction was, and what purpose an object serves, but I don't think this substantially detracts from the experience. That being said, I feel like the awakening theme of the game's design is underutilized, and that more of the object interaction should play into that idea.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game sits in a really weird place where its to simple and boring for teens/adults yet requires a bit of timing skill that might be too hard for a child. This game also has no polish, the textures are very rough and over saturated. One of the main side-objectives is to literally touch every tile, asset, coin, bird, box, ect, ect. Would be a decent cozy game if it was slightly more interesting
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An intensely boring platformer, obviously intended for small children, but too badly designed even for them. The gameplay is too complex and skill-based for a child, yet nowhere near challenging enough for an adult to enjoy. The sound is the best part - the gameplay is meshed with the audio in that certain actions will result in changes in the soundtrack, which is well executed and satisfying. Perhaps valuable as a wind-down activity, but only because it is so thoroughly unstimulating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play this game on drugs, wheeeeeeeee
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute visuals with popping colors and a cheery dynamic soundtrack can't save this unengaging platformer. And don't count of the poor story to motivate the action either. WIth rather stiff controls made worse on moving platforms and a lack of meaningful challenge, Newt One just doesn't quite find itself for the most part. Power-ups do spruce up the goings-on, and the larger and denser levels are a bit more interesting to navigate. There's potential here, but this platformer, much like its world,…
