But what if the game itself insinuates that it is indeed something else by showing heavy similarities to [url=en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thing_(1982_film)]one of the best horror movies ever made? Initially called simply Distrust, now Distrust: Polar Survival - it's never a good sign when a brief description of the game is included in the title - strangely doesn't build on the very…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Distrust is a survival horror game set in an Antarctic research station. You play as some set of survivors, struggling to escape while uncovering the mysteries of what happened in the base. However, it's not enough to escape a polar research base. Survivors must confront mysterious alien anomalies, the elements, and, worst of all, a crippling lack of cigarettes. In terms of its gameplay, Distrust plays like a game that is meant to be played co-op with a single player mode slapped on to satisfy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's easy to see why the idea behind Distrust looked good on paper. Manage a small team of polar explorers while they are trying to survive the harsh climate and escape the alien-infested station somewhere in the Arctic region. That does sound interesting. Sadly, the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The developers describe Distrust as a "story-rich survival adventure". Instead, it is a fairly dull excercise in patience with no real story to speak of. You get a short intro when you start…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm afraid that I cannot really recommend this game. In general - it provides almost no unique or interesting content, just generic resource management. Not really replayable, not really challenging. I guess it can be somewhat atmospheric thanks to snow effects and sounds, if you are looking for that kind of stuff, but it also quickly evaporates because you're constantly busy trying not to lose. The game's name doesn't really mean anything either, there is no social factor, as you directly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Apparently the bug where a friend goes through the next level door successfully and you fall behind breaking the run is a pretty common one. This massive oversight makes playing a roguelike unreliable. Imagine playing a long run to only have it ruined because of a common bug.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty crappy survival mechanics. I literally starved to death on the first game and I looked literally EVERYWHERE for planks and food but there's just not enough resources. So many objects in the map but there's really nothing to collect; this game honestly feels like a mobile game. Pretty lame and disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A gamer and his gamer friend survive a crash at an Arctic research station. I felt like having two characters to control, while they are freezing to death, hungry, and exhausted, was a little much to manage. There could be a way to make it more manageable. I died within the first hour of the first game, without even knowing that I had to do certain things before I could actually leave the zone. There needs to be a better quest list and even a list that shows the items that need to be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You'd think the time limits imposed by the heat, hunger, and sleep meters would be enough, but no, you have to cut yourself on everything you touch and get a fourth time limit. You can't do anything about this because the game doesn't give you any items to heal an injury suffered while digging in snow. Add on the fact that every action takes so long to do and this game becomes a miserable slog very fast.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this a bad game? No, I wouldn't say so. Are there better options for the survival genre? Definitely. I just didn't feel like this game stood out anywhere. Enemies were mostly just annoying and promised to get more so. Survival mechanics were unbalanced feeling and quickly became tedious. I'd say Distrust was a solid meh at best, but in a world with so many good options, don't waste your time here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Distrust is an interesting game that has neat concepts and a lot of potential but very little in the way of depth. I do want to clarify that the game isn’t bad, if you can grab it on a discount you'll still get a good day's worth of gaming out of it but, unless you find something in the game that really hits one of your buttons, it wont last long. At around 6-7 hours of actual gameplay, I feel I've experienced around 90% of what the game had to offer and, while there are more puzzles and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I only recommend this to gamers who want a challenge for the sake of it, as the story isn't intriguing enough to make it worth the relatively brain-dead simple gather & go core gameplay loop. So I can't give this game an overall thumbs up. I would recommend any 11bitstudios survival game over this, especially This War of Mine. This game is more like This Arctic Struggle of Mine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is a buggy mess, especially in coop. Bugged interactions that make you permanently unable to do anything, random disconnects that throw you to the main menu saying you can continue the run but then continue is greyed out, disconnects where after 20s of loading one person will be back in while the other wont (and no way to rejoin, bricking the run), progression blocks that require 3 players to do something simultaneously, with no way to do it if someone disconnects. My game freezes for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alot of the people complaining about this game are experiencing nothing more than a skill issue. i saw credits roll on this game in around 2.5 hours on a casual explore everything play through. If they have 40 minutes in this game and complain it's too hard they never really left the tutorial. If you've played Don't Starve, The Long Dark or Dark Souls you'll realise where the complaints are coming from. If you want a game to hold your hand this isn't it, If you want a good, short unique game…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good survival horror. At first it seems insanely difficult, especially on hard mode. You think it's impossible to reach the end. But after playing for a few hours, the game becomes very easy and you no longer understand how characters used to die on locations. :)You control 3 polar explorers, but there is a cooperative mode where, as I understand it, everyone can control 1 character, but unfortunately I did not play cooperative. There are a lot of random events in the game, but in general…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you ever watched John Carpenter’s "The Thing" and thought, "I could definitely survive that," this game is here to prove you wrong. The Vibe: Distrust nails the claustrophobic, paranoid atmosphere of an Arctic research station. The art style is gritty, the vision-blurring mechanics when your characters get tired are genuinely stressful, and the "Anomalies" are creepy enough to make you double-check every shadow. Steam Community Steam Community +1 The Gameplay: It’s a top-down survival…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played it a long time ago and the second area was broken, i play it now a long time later and one of the sacks for area 4 doesn't work properly. Trying the game two times and both times the run is broken not due to failing but due to bugs. This game officially goes into my trashbin category.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ultimately it is about resource management, but the atmosphere is what i will remember!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent and stressful game brought very low by RNG and an uncounterable common enemy. Had multiple runs end due to one enemy type where we did not find what we needed to counter it while searching everything. Overwhelmingly frustrating as the rest of the game is incredibly fun. Spoilers! The only way to handle the electric anomaly is to shoot it or use a trap, both of those are expendable and difficult to find. The enemy seeks out and destroys beds, generators, boilers, etc. It also…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly buggy game. It is IMPOSSIBLE to play CO-OP. Don't buy if you plan to play CO-OP with friends.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a really fun game to play with friends. I'd definitely recommend picking the game up if you can get it cheap. I haven't played it solo, so this is stricly a co-op recommendation. The game is definitely worth a couple dollars though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i appreciate the effort but this should be a mobile game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game that on some misplaced ethical ‘principle’ forbids saving, rather than making it optional. It may seem arbitrary to neg review on this alone, but no less arbitrary than the decision in the first place.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A simple but challenging experience. Don't be fooled if you get through the first two levels on Adventure mode and think "Wow! This is really easy!" The game DOES ramp up, and will force you to prioritize and micro manage your resources. But you can do it, you just gotta focus. Good luck out there, survivor! I believe in you!...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →gameplay is just not there. very slow, you just point and click and tell your character search this. search that. Even if your characters are far away from each other they share all tools and inventory, so if a character picks up a bandage in one corner of the map, your other character can use it in the other corner. monster are neither scary or interesting the game looks like an isometric rpg/strategy game but there just isnt much to do you just micro manage needs like sims while searching…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An illogical and random chance driven survival game in which all players do is run around gathering items from the environment then using those items on the environment. There is virtually no player driven gameplay in this. All players can do is interact with objects to get items, then use those items on other objects or themselves. There is virtually no element of choice or dexterity or anything. Either you have what you need or you do not. And whether the game gives you that thing is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool idea, poor execution I was genuienly surprised to see a game that is more unstable than Payday 2. This is mostly related to coop. The amount of disconnects is insane (and reconnecting is also borderline impossible), the game also freezes heavily during basically any inventory interaction. Solo experience sure is better perfomance-wise, but suffers a lot from lack of replayability and rng in some sense. There is really nothing interesting going on after one completion and the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm gamedev myself, and that's what I think Worth highlighting (what is unique) * Interesting genre. Core idea: Loot and progress as fast as you can because every second you lose stamina or food, and your resources are very limited. Simple, but interesting. Overall rating 5/10 I don't think it's worth playing solo (when playing solo, you must manage 2 characters, almost like an RTS of a kind, and it's not fun). In co-op it's all about communication. How well you can sync your moves,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →we know a lot about Distrust, the og form of dr1 including that it was meant to be a route game
unlabelledView post →♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mechanics that ruin this otherwise cool game, if I'm playing with a friend and go unconscious, he is unable to loot any of my inventory, meaning that I can have 50 coal and 80 adrenaline injectors on me, but because his character can't look in my pockets it's game over. What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ braindead oversight from the devs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got it at a steep discount and thought it would be a fun "horror-lite" to play co-op runs with the family. Wrong. Sadly, it's just boring. Despite looking promising, the gameplay loop is just fighting against a few timers (a hunger bar, a sleep bar, and a temperature bar) plus whatever temporary injury you acquire across 5 zones. Not horrible, but also not fun. The descent into madness is just a few effects akin to Fallout's Wasteland Weirdness (or whatever) perks and when it even happens…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →in this game you play as a hungry insomniac that uses a minute to open a door when you have the key to the door.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wanted to like this game. It has a strong presentation and excellent setting. What really turned me off though was just how much I had to babysit the various meters. This is a mechanic that's hard to do well in survival games and this one makes it the entire focus to the exclusion of a strong (or seemingly any) narrative by having them deplete FAST. Things like hunger and sanity should be in the back of your mind, but here it's the entire experience and what should be a game about exploring…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the only games that my wife will play with me, and not because of the title. I enjoy the game quite a bit. Probably 6/10. It's weirdly demanding for an older system (5 years?). But love the feel of the game, and I find it pretty challenging. Grab on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game called "DISTRUST" there doesn't seem to be any issue with trusting your mates in this game. Many people may get this game thinking it's inspired by "The Thing". Other than taking place on base in the Arctic, it's nothing like The Thing. There's no mystery in who your comrades are, there's no horror elements, etc. It's repetitive & gets boring fast. The survival aspect is kinda fun but it gets old, especially if you're playing hoping for it to become like The Thing only for it to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Devs have abandoned the game but its still worth playing with friends
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has interesting concept, where you need to survive 6 zones and every zone is harder than zone before and in every zone there is new monster, which you need to deal with. What I liked about the game: 1) There is some lore about the story of the game. Not much, but interesting to read, which typically doesn’t happen with that kind of game. 2) Speaking about how hard the game is, then in the beginning the game is hard, but when you play for few hours, it starts to be easier and more fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I REALLY want to give this game a positive review but there are just too many issues with it. I love the setting, the gameplay ideas, the graphics, the aesthetics, sound design and even the music but I just cant get over the interface. Its not the worst I've seen by far it just feels like its in the wrong game. Issuing commands is too frustrating and clunky with Lots of mis-clicks and inputs not being received, its also way too easy to cancel an action on accident. The cancel button takes up…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Correct me if I'm missing something, but my friend and I searched every building in the starting zone, looted every container, and couldn't find the bomb canister to build the bomb. We couldn't progress.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ncase.me/trust/ What is the 'best' decision making strategy? What about "Game theory"? Distrust proliferation? This educational game/interactive lesson (doesn't take long) is a gem, really. Free, no need to download anything. #education, #distrust
unlabelledView post →Imagine a gamified "The Thing" with its own unique lore. Also, there's guides for the achievement about the ticket event that already passed. Don't worry. It's just a little bit of file editing. Additionally, best team has gotta be Mary Stone, Martin Brown, and then pick from Emil, Phillip, or Casper, depending on your playstyle.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →❌ Horrible controls, this is the biggest problem ❌ incomprehensible minimalistic action icons ❌ One misclick and the character just stays put out in the open ,freezing. ❌ You can not interact with objects that are 1 room away, you can only issue the command when the character is inside that room. ❌ The character cuts himself while searching lockers, crates (seriously?) etc and if you don't bandage in time then rest in peace. ❌ There is not much to do ❌ There is nothing that keeps me playing,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing. Starting at an abandoned base covered in snow, having to survive the elements, hunger and tiredness as you try to make your way through the base and escape. It really is a great survival game. One of the best or worst things about it, depending on how you see it, are the slip into madness you have if you neglect your needs for too long and the way they manifest in the gameplay. The game can use a little bit more polish to make it smoother around the edges but even now…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is fun, hard enough to be a fun challenge; it is a resource management game, but in a good way. The only problem is, there are some game-breaking glitches that NEEDS to be resolved. So while I recommend the game, I would be wary of purchasing it until the glitches are resolved.
