Dark Water
Dahlia and her five-year-old daughter are ready to begin a new life together. But their new apartment — dilapidated and worn — suddenly seems to take on a life of its own. Mysterious noises, persistent leaks of dark water and other strange happenings send Dahlia on a haunting and mystifying pursuit — one that unleashes a torrent of living nightmares. From TMDB

neutral · AI labelView post →Now watching: ‘Dark Water’, dir. Hideo Nakata, 2002. I saw this one first time round and remember finding it quite satisfying. 🎬🎥
positive · AI labelView post →Hot take: I liked the American version of “Dark Water” better than the American version of “The Ring.” Lukewarm take: in both cases, the Japanese film is superior. Ice cold take: the American version of “Pulse,” however, is Not Good.

neutral · AI labelView post →🚨 K-horror fans, we are so back! 🚨 Kim Soo-Jin’s NOISE is a return to creepy early-00s basics that serves up pure uncut dread. It’s a Korean DARK WATER for 2025: uncanny, unnerving, and the most haunting film of the year. Recommended! 👻 🇰🇷
neutral · AI labelView post →Ahhhhh, RIP to a legend. I’ve been making my way through every iteration of Ringu - novel, TV movie, cinematic movie, TV series, TV sequel, movie sequel, etc. What a loss and far too young. Dark Water is an incredible movie too, the recent @arrowvideo.bsky.social 4K is excellent.
positive · AI labelView post →every day of 2025 I'll post a random horror film, series, etc. from Asia (E, S, SE). 3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣ DARK WATER (2002) (仄暗い水の底から) Dir: Hideo Nakata A Kōji Suzuki story adaptation. A divorced mother's new accommodations, an apartment, is haunted by a child's ghost. Remade in 2005 by Walter Salles. #HorrorSky
neutral · AI labelView post →It shares the games' themes of girls and curses, but is otherwise its own thing. The Spirit Camera only gets a cameo. Honestly it's worth watching. I was pleasantly surprised at how overtly sapphic it was. Reminded me of Dark Water, The Ring, and especially the first Tomie movie. Recommended! 2/2

neutral · AI labelView post →Sorry to hear Koji Suzuki died. I remember hearing him speak at WHC in San Francisco in 2006 (20 years ago now!). His novel RING was turned into two of the scariest movies ever: the Japanese RINGU and the US version, THE RING. The Japanese movie made from his short story "Dark Water" was also good.
neutral · AI labelView post →Day 18: Wet Ghosts. Dark Water (2002) From Ring Director Hideo Nakata. Short story turned into a film. Haunting imagery , Lots of rain, lots of water, heartbreaking. Can be viewed on @nightflightplus.bsky.social #31DayHorrorChallenge @nofspodcast.bsky.social #DarkWater
positive · AI labelView post →If you see this, quote it with a horror film you love! #Horror #HorrorSky #FilmSky Honestly, while Ring is my favourite J-horror series, and Audition is a close to this - Dark Water wins out on the basis that the ending of the film fucking crushed me.
neutral · AI labelView post →Dark Water (2002) I watched the 2005 American remake of this when I was 12 and it sucked, this is much more coherent. Good movie.
positive · AI labelView post →Dark Water (2002) The absolute misery the rain holds over the characters in this film is superb #horrorsky #jhorror

neutral · AI labelView post →30 day horror challenge, day 19: The horror film that frightens you the most. I already used Ring, and I don't want to repeat myself, so I'll pick Dark Water (2002). This is almost as scary as Ring, but with an even greater level of emotional weight. #horrorsky
positive · AI labelView post →Another creepy Japanese movie I watched recentlyI recommend for the Halloween times, Dark Water from 2002 youtu.be/vwwfVoZZKSk?... Directed by Hideo Nakata
positive · AI labelView post →Watching Dark Water (2005), the American remake of the 2002 Japanese film. About halfway through and it’s a fine enough supernatural story, but Tim Roth just showed up and gets to do his New York accent. One of my favourite inexplicable accents done by an otherwise acclaimed actor #filmsky 📽️
neutral · AI labelView post →Tim Curry was everywhere for me. As a kid, I adored the movie clue and would beg to watch it constantly. I was obsessed with the Pirates of Dark Water (he voiced Konk) as a kid. but basically anything he was in, I adored. And of course Rocky Horror which I went to every Friday night religously.

neutral · AI labelView post →This is so weird, I had a dream about Sadako last night. What a sad, sad loss. Dark Water is pretty much the only horror movie my mother has seen in decdes.
neutral · AI labelView post →That clammy, slow-creeping dread reminded me of the Japanese film Dark Water. God, now I feel like I need an exorcism right away! 😱
neutral · AI labelView post →When I saw the original Japanese version of Dark Water last year I remarked that it would be a more powerful film without the supernatural aspects - the single parenting elements were scarier than the ghost story. "If I Had Legs" is effectively that movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →Dark Water is easily the worst Japanese horror film I’ve seen. Over long and dull, which is surprising considering who wrote and directed it. Arrow Video did a great job with the image quality, so there’s that. Film 3/10 PQ 8/10 #horrormovies #horrorfilms #physicalmedia #4kuhd #4k #arrowvideo
negative · AI labelView post →Honestly I would go with something like the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo* and Pirates of the Dark Water A show that had a clearly defined premise could wrap up *I know the 13th Ghost movie exists but that was so jarring tonally wise
neutral · AI labelView post →I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a remake of an Asian / J-Horror film that comes close to the original: The Ring, Dark Water, Ju-On: Grudge… all blah, and the less said about the Pulse remake the better.
negative · AI labelView post →Yep a brilliant file movie! Zodiac is my favourite file movie, Spotlight and Dark Water great ones too. And All the President's Men
positive · AI labelView post →I was in the mood for a bit more Heisei horror today, so I watched Hideo Nakata's pre-Ring movie Don't Look Up (女優霊, 1996). Not as good as Ring or Dark Water, but it has some creepy moments and captures the development of his style. Pretty good fun. #horrorsky

neutral · AI labelView post →I'm watching the 2002 Japanese horror movie Dark Water tonight Do I watch it in crisp 1080p HD, or do I watch it in like 480p SD for the ✨️aesthetic✨️
neutral · AI labelView post →We watched Dark Water (Japanese movie) and frankly I am in shambles. I'm so sad. What the fuck. What the fuck!!
positive · AI labelView post →Dark Water and Audition scared me far more than the Ring. For me the scariest movie ever made is Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. It just gets right under your skin in ways you can't explain. Slow burn movies are always far scarier than outright shocks.
positive · AI labelView post →Dark Water (2002) - Another JHorror classic. A film about the stress of cramped city living, single parenthood, and the persistent fear of neglect of children and childhood itself.
positive · AI labelView post →Dark Water [2005] A movie whose psychological brutality left an indelible impression on my psyche. And the kid´s incredible acting deserves a mention. #horror #horrorsky #movie
positive · AI labelView post →I said earlier Dark Waters is a really common title but I've got to say now every Dark Water[s] movie I've seen has been pretty exceptional. #Splatterday
positive · AI labelView post →if you are wondering about the horror content in this movie, if Addams Family is a 1, Shaun of the Dead is a 4, and Dark Water 仄暗い水の底から(2002) is a 7, then this is a 2, I guess? However gore doesn't bother me so ymmv. Friend is a horror fan and I'm not, but it still worked for both of us
neutral · AI labelView post →I can't remember the last time I felt so much for characters in a film. The mother and daughter pair from Dark Water are phenomenally sympathetic, without feeling like rote "save the cat" stuff.
positive · AI labelView post →DARK WATER | Short Horror Film youtu.be/lHYpVcFdhkU?... via @YouTube
neutral · AI labelView post →I’d recommend just about anything from JRL. The Thicket (which had a film adaptation this year as well), The Bottoms, A Fine Dark Line, Edge of Dark Water, Paradise Sky, etc
neutral · AI labelView post →My slightly above room temperature take today is that even though Sadako is more iconic, Dark Water is the better film The ending breaks me every time, and Ring doesn't get under my skin like that
positive · AI labelView post →"Dark Water" (the Japanese original; not the US remake). Saw it at a film festival surrounded by hundreds of other people and yet I still felt myself pushing myself as far back into my chair as possible
positive · AI labelView post →Still need to see Dark Water. I have the OG movie as an Arrow special edition somewhere, got it at the Montreal Fantasia Film Festival two years ago.
neutral · AI labelView post →Share a SCARY movie title that begins with the letter "D" 🎥 D Is for Dark Water.🖤
neutral · AI labelView post →Thanks! I also have Ringu and Dark Water showing up later this week, to round off a spooky movie month.
neutral · AI labelView post →everybody else in the replies are recommending the novels (which i second, they're batshit insane) but if you loved this, two recommendations i have are Pulse (another film of the era reckoning with technology in a similar way) and Dark Water (the same director tackling another Koji Suzuki story)
neutral · AI labelView post →Dark Water vs Ring 2 and it's not close. Dark Water is a genuinely heartbreaking film about maternal grief and urban isolation. Ring 2 is Hideo Nakata returning to the well and finding it mostly dry. The sequel has atmosphere but no real emotional anchor to hold it together
positive · AI labelView post →Eyes of Fire, no! I watched Dark Water (singular), the Japanese film. But I just looked up Dark Water(s) and see a few options.
neutral · AI labelView post →Please let this trend last long enough for a big-budget Pirates of Dark Water movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →I loved it too, and saw it for the 2nd time last night. It most reminded me of Silent Hill 4, with a bit of 2. Loved how interpretive it is. Its as deep or as shallow as you make it. My favourite film of the year, and my favourite horror film since the early J-Horrors like Dark Water.
positive · AI labelView post →i was just nattering with Duncan the other week in here.. hehe. Great film! Caught it at the local cinema that's known for showing all the good independent and world cinema stuff. Caught Bladerunner, Ghost In The Shell, Dark Water, The Assassin, Solaris, Wolf Children, all manner of fab movies there.
positive · AI labelView post →Dark Water (the original) continues to be the only horror movie I ever watched to literally give me nightmares. I have never looked at a water stain the same way again.
positive · AI labelView post →#NW 2 films i haven't watched in a long time, both i consider are the pinnacle of J-Horror though. Audition on it's first watch flips your expectations in it's last third in ways you're just not expecting. Dark Water is a genuinely creepy film, but it's finalé leaves me utterly devastated. 📽️
positive · AI labelView post →Open letter to the person looking for "damp" movie recommendations - the original 2002 Japanese version of Dark Water is surely the dampest movie of all time (particularly as the letter-writer specified peeling paint as a criterion).
