Some viewers found the film spooky and fun, praising its visuals and atmosphere. [1][2][3] Many critics complained about clichéd jump scares, a weak story, and lack of originality. [4][5][6][7] A few reviewers appreciated the gothic style and the villain, despite the film's flaws. [8][2]

Overall I liked The Nun it was a spooky fun movie with some pretty good shots and scenes (lighting, camera angles, and such). The transitions from one scene to another was a bit off and the story overall had a more fantasy tone over the more grounded and realistic tone The Conjuring and Annabelle movies had. Much of the story felt like it was just forced to setup a shot or scene which does hurt it. It isn't a …

It looks like they attempted to make an inoffensive horror movie...not really in the PC sense of the word, but in the "we are going to do just enough to get an 'R' rating in an otherwise PG movie" sense of the word. It's not really frightening. It's not really scary, it's not really gory, and the nun herself is not really ominous. It just sort of is. And, really, it could be a lot better.

Appallingly cliched. Slow and boring. Not even the Conjuring hype could save this film. It moves forward at a painful pace, brings nothing new to the table, and is not even scary.

Not the literal worst entry in the series (that laurel still rests firmly upon the crown of Annabelle) and there was a couple of cool design moments, like creepy hands busting out of statues, even the acting is of acceptable level. But that's about everything positive I can say for The Nun, 'cause this is pretty dang bad. Final rating:★★ - Had some things that appeal to me, but a poor finished product.

Tonight I’m watching the last of my Conjuring series rewatches, and a personal fav - The Nun. This movie was eviscerated when it came out, but I personally really dig its whole gothic medieval thing. Also, who doesn’t enjoy a bit of nunsploitation? Plus, the Nun is just a great villain.
How this was made: an AI model (deepseek-v4-flash) read 34 of the 150 public posts we collected about this film and wrote the summary, likes and dislikes, citing the posts behind each point ([n] opens the post). A second AI pass checked every statement against the posts it cites; anything it could not match was removed, and code removed any statement with quotation marks, numbers that are not in the posts, or unattributed claims about people. The split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Generated Oct 10, 2026. Method

unlabelledView post →Wow!! The Nun 2 is WAY better than first film. Better scares. Better setting. Better character development. I would totally recommend it to Conjuring fans ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was really looking forward to this one leading up to release because I love the Enfield Poltergeist case. The film is overall good, though a little bloated (Crooked Man was unnecessary). But the Nun was very cool.

unlabelledView post →Tonight I’m -finally- finishing the Conjuring universe re-watch with The Nun II. I really enjoyed the first movie, but I left the theater with mixed feelings when I saw this one. Gonna give it another go. Mostly I remember the goat man demon and the magazine stand sequence being highlights.

unlabelledView post →The Nun does not get my usual pass for the characters not realizing they’re in a horror movie. Father Burke and Sister Irene make some *choices* despite being well aware there’s some supernatural fuckery going on.

No, not that Terminator 2, the dodgy 1989 Italian one. Don’t know how truthful this is, but it is based on a real nun📽️
unlabelledView post →The Nun 2 (second The Nun film) was really bad but I did enjoy the little trick of weaponizing wine by making it a holy relic via the sacrament. You only ever see them do it with holy water. Anyway that was the one good thing in the film

unlabelledView post →The whole "which film actually ranked first at the box office this weekend" thing is irrelevant because rank is irrelevant. 'The Nun II' earning around $14.5 million in weekend two is good. 'A Haunting In Venice' earning around $14.5 million in its debut weekend is bad. End of story.

Plus, let’s be honest, Valak is the true big bad of the franchise. If they are doing one more movie, they gotta have the Nun in it.
