40 of 40 · most liked firstCliff Notes, Worth it but the start was weird. This game was released in 2006 so the graphics are to be expected of an indie game from that time that is to say decent to good and fitting for the story but not going to win any awards. The combat as far as I could play was fairly simple. However it did seem that combat would become far more involved with higher tier units and larger total fighting forces. Difficulty, most of the difficulty for me came from the interface itself. In order to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its Battle Isle 1.5 with better Graphics (aged well, nothing too fancy). Runs well on my laptop. Didnt care about the story too much, but honestly who does ? Not too easy, not too hard. (have not finished it yet) I like it. p.s. There's a demo on the Devs website, so you can try before you buy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a terrible game for the money, lacks mission to mission continuity. No; promotions, awards, keeping you best units. Its also confusing, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when or where you can repair/heal and reload your ground units. While you are trying to figure this out, you run out of time. Still, if you like a tough challenge, give it a go.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slightly slow paced turn based strategy game. Decent visuals, good audio, solid although slow gameplay mechanics and interesting unit variety make this game easily worth £3 in my opinion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A decent little strategy game. Remember, it is from 2006 so it cannot be held to 2014 standards. I'm getting a kick out of it and the super cheap price makes it even better. A good game to mess around with, don't buy if you need something super serious to dedicate your gaming life to... Recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, I think War on Folvos is a not bad game. Player can select two forces. Each one has its own merits and demerits. But the game also has a lot of flaws. You cannot ignore them. Because they are really bad enough to ruin the fun. Cons: -The font of game story is too small in wide-screen with a high resolution, especially for 1920 x 1080 resolution. -There has no level select screen. Your save files are the only way to do this. So if you overwritten a wrong save, then you must restart…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome turn based strategy! I cannot stop to play mission until all enemies will be eliminated :) And remember, this is indie game from year 2006, so do not expect anything special from it. Just play for fun ;)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely basic and dull TBS. Good thing – it works. Bad thing – you won't want it to. Setting here is just a poor and ugly Dune rip-off (Frank and Brian Herbert disliked this game twice). The whole plot is just the filler talks (nothing happens, you just get your objectives and follow them). Maps are a joke. Rivers, roads, woods... All that exist only for your eyes, and your units can easily cross all that without any problems, like those don't even exist. Therefore, each and every map (there…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game reminds me of a game called Tiberian Sun. And actually War on Folvos is somehow has a bit atmosphere of Tiberian Sun. That's just why I like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good modern/futuristic turn based strategy game, in the likes of Panzer General, that went completely under the radar. War on Folvos is set in a modern/future setting, the game has a decent storyline about a nation that gets invaded and 'rises up' against the invaders. War on Folvos offers players the chance to play as either side, the invaders, or the rebels. Each side has an interesting mix of units - some based off of real-world vehicles. The combat mechancis are good, with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dont buy this game it is crap they dont tell you enough on how to play and the controlls are not easy to use
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was fun waaay back in the day. Maybe worth it if you some want some nostalgia and remember this from the past.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're really into these turn-based wargames and you see it on one of its regular sales for $1 or less then give it a go. For everyone else I'd steer clear. The backstory here isn't all that captivating so you'll skip through walls of text. The game mechanics are rather simple, and the game lacks quite a few basic options in the settings for a more user friendly experience. Honestly something like Panzer General 2 from 1997 that you can pick up for $4 or less has aged much better and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Infantry, armor, artillery, air, scout and support assets . This game covers the bases. It's a basic hex tbs with no bells and whistles. I just picked it up for 50 cents, so how can I complain?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not really used to writing long reviews so I'll just give a short review here.. Intro War on Folvos is a strategic turn based game with hexa tiles i.e 6 directional tiles. It is a very strategic game and little mistakes can cost you alot. Story There isn't any thing Good or too emotional in the story. It's just a normal story which I would rate 6/10. You can play on two sides though which means two stories. Gameplay The gameplay is very good. I didn't find any…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, its a cheap little game I know... but there is more to it and we can see a litte sophisticated mechanics in here. Game mechanics quite okay for the asked full price of 399 cents. Labelling it a "scrolling simulation" or so like some users did is simply untrue and stupid and reveals a big cognitive disability to see through things. --- It is a simple but good round based game. Reminds me of Dune2, C&C1, Peoples General all in one. It has neat simplistic 3D units each coming with an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Couldn't even force myself to finish tutorial. Just an old game that would have been better as a time-killing app. Doesn't shine in any way. Tutorial is thorough, almost over-bearing. Literally have to play the game more now just to leave this review. No trading cards or achievements, so no reason to force yourself to even play or idle it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To be honest TBS is not my favourite genre, but even keeping that in mind this one seems a bit bland. I have had quite a bit fun with the HOMM-series, but War of Folvos is not captivating... at all. If you are a veteran player and your goal is to beat all games of the genre, then yes - go for it. But if you are only slightly curious, go find another one, this one is not for you. 5/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good simple turn-based combat, like the DOS days. Needs HUD scaling though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"War on Folvos" is an ancient game from 2006. It's a whopping 18 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for any modern gaming display resolutions (or widescreen monitors), hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on modern gaming PCs. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an ancient game. This seems to have been put on Steam as a nostalgia gouge, or just a cash grab to try profit from abandonware. It was an old school…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →War On Folvos is a bland turn-based strategy game that doesn't measure up to comparable games (e.g. Warlock 1 & 2). Combat is extremely basic, there seems to be no building of any kind and there's no progression system. On top of that it has clumsy controls, lacking even basic hotkeys (like end turn). It's also unplayable in 4K because the UI doesn't scale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have acquired this game from Orlygift or Failmid some time ago. Just finished the campaign now (offline mode). This is a solid title. Good Panzer General clone, hex grid with turn-based strategy. On harder difficulties one really needs to think as it is easy to be surrounded, outrunned and destroyed. I also liked the music theme. The troop types could be larger and graphic probably better, but this is a game for 4$ and I believe it could be acquired for much less.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WAR ON FOLVOS is not a bad game. It is your standard hexagonal turn-base strategy, that tries to port to a fiction future the tactics of today (tanks, infantry, long range artillery, air units for both air combat and ground attack etc.). It is a panzer-general or a dune (the old one) clone of sorts. I detect no groundbreaking evolution whatsoever in this game. But it must be said that, although 'more of the same', that is not grounds for dismissing the game. The stats of the units and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know paid .86 cents and have just under 7 hours with no major beefs so I would buy it again yes it is dated compared to2017 the negitive compliants are all about getting someting once more for nothing I am so sick of seeing the libreal little cry baby review that has nothing to do about the game or time periorod it was produced gamed time it was produced it is like a low budget Panzer cor space game okay if you sit home have not much to do want a decent game to play for a buck on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →War on Folvos is a simple turn based hex-grid strategy with simple mechanics, though I still found it fairly satisfying. Each unit gets two action points per turn and you can use those to move or fire as you wish. With effective scouting, rotating your armour units and pumelling your enemy with artillery the invader campaign becomes very easy. The rebel campaign is a bit more challenging with its weaker units. New objectives given to you part way through a mission can catch you offguard. You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is it a good game ? No Sound design ? Meh Good Level design ? No Good story ? No A good turn based game ? No. But its nostalgic and some missions do make you feel overwhelmed with the amount of units comming at you. Its balanced decently.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple, yet a classic. I remember playing this as a teenager. It is surprisingly replayable, provided you have the patience for clicking through. Though the game play can get somewhat repetitive, the core game is a fun casual strategy game. Would recommend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game at a bargain price. 9 out of 10 Dev. I would like to see a random battle map generator. Maybe in War on Folvos 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a pearl for those of you who enjoyed games like "Panzer General" and the likes. It has the same plus and minus likes those games with a very important exception: its 2 actions per turn units can execute. This detail actually makes this game tactics quite a bit more interesting than all you can explore with the "Panzer General" clones out there. In my humble opinion all the most popular ones for sure. I found its graphics more than adeguate, as well as the campaign storyline. And I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The UI is an abomination before game design. Readability is non-existent.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Round based military strategy. I do not like the graphics but the music is kind of good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Graphics are well done. But in comparison to Battle isle 2 or 3 or Panzer General, I miss some features: - Attack is not countered. - Surprised units: you can just step into a nest of enemy units and nothing happens. - Equipment of invasors vs rebels is unbalanced in my opinion
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its an ancient old rip off of Dune but Turn based. Absolutely crap. Linear, clunky, old, Doesn't even work on Windows 10. Don't bother buying it...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →slow paced turn based strategy game. Decent visuals, good audio, solid although slow game-play mechanics and interesting unit variety make this game easily worth 69p in my opinion. Reminds me of Dune 2000 & Tiberian Sun however I feel key information was missing there such as weapon range. Speed and range need to be learned the hard way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Map scrolling simulator, in a turn based strategy setup. Game glitches at exit and the screen gets stuck in corner of the map sometimes too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: TBS - Turn Based Strategy Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Outcompeted Bundle-filler. Hotspot control blitzkrieg game. Turn based strategy with bland tileset. Interactivity a bit unwieldy. This is a simple game where you herd around a small group of units to take over special little city tiles and fortification tiles. Micromanagement oriented. Might be servicable but when looking at the greater strategy games landscape it does not take long to realize…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oudated. Outmatched by any more recent turn based strategy game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Graphics gave me an erection
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Call it "PlanetXistan, the latest game from Avalon Hill." As a turn-bsed tactical game on a hexagonal map, War on Folvos is something of a throwback to the wargaming boardgames of the 1970's and 80's. It's like taking an ancient Avalon Hill game like Afrika Corps or a *very* simplified version of Squad Leader and animating it with 1990's-era graphics. The game has the same deliberate pace and slow thought demands of one of those old games with the little cardboard chits. You can almost see…
