Its oozing atmospheric tension and detailed narrative compensate for its perplexing puzzle design, making it a treat to play for classic horror fans. Pros Superb English narrator Immense amount of background lore Intricate story & characters Puzzle heavy Foreboding atmospheric tension Cons Awful lighting in specific places Some puzzles are too obtuse…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great game, although it's more mysterious than horror. As the game progresses, everything gets scarier, first because of the story, then because the game gets creepier (especially the end of the mansion and the hospital). Although there is only one scene where you are in real danger. The best parts of the game are the story and the environments. The ending is very unexpected and makes it all make sense. The puzzles are a bit difficult at times, but they are original. Recommended for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 Such a shame I really wanted to like this game, because the atmosphere of the mansion is amazing. The puzzles in this game are atrocious. I played the game for 2 hours and I couldn't take it anymore. Almost every puzzle doesn't make sense. I watched playthough videos on youtube and I still cant figure out why most of the solutions to the puzzles work. I am not sure if its a translation issue on the developers part or whats going on, but I have 30 years of gaming under my belt and have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you look at the update history for this game as of late February 2023, you will see absolutely NO patches. Despite numerous reports to the developer of bugs and other issues, absolutely none of them have been addressed. I believe this is because the developer is flat out incapable of fixing this game. To begin with, graphic settings do not save. Clicking resume game to load a save also often does not work. You also cannot remap the controls nor disable the cinematic bars on the screen. There…

Most of the time, even by seeing these tags, you can predict the questionable quality of the product, but sometimes there are glimpses in the form of good things, and this is just the case. And although at some points the game is far from ideal, the individuality of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The fact that unless you know spanish you are going to miss a large portion of the story is a dealbreaker for me, selling this as an english localized game is just trying to trick people into buying it and hoping they take enough time to get to the point where the translation stops that they can no longer get a refund.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed this well enough, but it has a lot of problems. The story is engaging, and an interesting enough mystery to make me want to reach the end. The environments, atmosphere, sound design, are all good. Some of the puzzles are very fun. Most notably, the game's filled with additional notes and newspapers and pictures, that don't contribute to the story or gameplay directly, but always flesh out the world a little bit more each, or tell a little bit of extra background of the area you're in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great atmosphere and excellent environment. The story was mysterious and well written, and had a satisfying ending. The entire game is creepy, and only certain parts are 'horror', which I think was a good choice since the story/mystery is the primary focus. After beating it and seeing the credits I was impressed that it was made by two people. I have one suggestion for the developers - the English translation of the Piano puzzle with the colored keys could use a tweak. The clues for each of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First impression was good since it looks alright, mostly because it’s very dark everywhere anyways, but that went down the drain quickly. There’s a lack of polish to be mentioned, like sources of light you turn off still illuminating the area around them or the torchlight you take when entering the basement reappearing on the table when you return so you take it again, an elevator behaving as if you ride it even though you were already on the floor for which you pressed the button ... stuff…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was an enjoyable game for me. I liked the spooky settings with just enough jump scares to make me laugh after my heart settled down : ) and the voice acting by Ian Russell was very special. It is loosely based on an escape room theme where you need to find the right key/code to eventually leave your current area. Story progresses along nicely, told through notes you collect, and the tension mounts as you enter into even more sinister areas of the estate. The puzzles are challenging.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was looking for a "chill" horror game with great atmosphere and little to no combat. that is what I got... BUT: there is so many issues that each individually would be fine, except they stack up and lessen the experience overall. I don't regret getting it, but I can sadly not really recommend getting this. maybe if you crave atmospheric puzzles you can get your money's worth on a sale. (I did not pay full price either) if I could give a "maybe" and not just a "yes" or "no" for recommendation…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing spoopy games this month as an escape. I started with Charon's Staircase, which was just okay. Then I played Don't Be Afraid which was really creepy and messed up. A decent horror game with a pretty high gross out factor. I just finished Alan Wake RM and am now starting Control.
unlabelledView post →The quality control had been skipped for this game. Tremendous amount of bugs, the game can't even scale properly (in case I had to play in Windowed mode). The atmosphere is there but its all so 'budget' looking. Why did they even bother with UE4? Its more like the 1st wave of Xbox360 games...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My recommendation is with some pretty big caveats: this game has some serious problems (detailed in cons below). While I didn't encounter anything game-breaking, some parts were seriously frustrating. However, I still overall enjoyed the game and I'm pretty floored that it was created in large part by just two people - what an achievement! Based on other reviews, it also seems that they have taken some (though not all) feedback and made some fixes, which is great to see. Pros: - Decent…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short and very engaging game. The story is somewhat predictable, but I still very much enjoyed the narrative. It's much more of a classic mystery, than an annoying detective cliché. It's not a horror game. Despite the darker tone, there are around 4 spooks throughout the whole experience and only 2 or 3 times (I think) you are in any real danger. Avoiding said danger is also easy, so don't worry about it too much. The focus is on the mystery and the story of Oak Grove and the Lewelin family.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its very good i enjoyed the whole game. i do think the horror aspect of the game could be bumped up but the story and the puzzles are great i enjoyed it all,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really solid mystery/horror adventure game. every Thing is well made the voice acting elevates over similar titles. The puzzles are relatively straightforward but deep enough to cause some head scratching. It doesn't do anything you probably haven't seen before but the story is interesting throughout and is well made. there is very little find the pixel stuff that shows up in similar games. it's a solid way to spend a night but you'll probly forget it in the future but I'm excited to see this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charon's Staircase is an indie horror game where you must uncover the dark truth of what happened with human experiments at an isolated mansion island. The main gameplay of Charon's Staircase is walking around solving puzzles, being scared by various pre-set events and occasionally dealing with enemies in various ways. This is not a chase heavy game and it's not easy to die. It is more a mystery horror experience with a heavy focus on puzzle solving and atmosphere. Charon's Staircase has a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way too short, clonky, and terrible graphics for the price. My play time was mostly from getting through bugs.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is beautiful and scary and very atmospheric. Love the story, has some good puzzles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For $2? Cool. For $20? Absolutely not. I was honestly ok with this game until I saw that it was released 2022. 2-0-2-2. I thought it was somewhere around 2015, graphics and jankiness wise. The UI and scaling is not up to par with widescreen requirements (the game is fine, but the menus seem stretched and the character archive you can look at is basically unusable). There were shelves missing in the library, just books floating, and halfway through some of the documents stopped being translated…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game 56: Charon's Staircase This was a neat little spooky walking sim with some decent jump scares and creepy atmosphere. The lore you learn through notes and such paint a pretty sinister picture. I enjoyed it enough for the 4 or 5 hours it took to complete.
unlabelledView post →Amazing game!! There's about three hours of gameplay, not five - I left mine paused for a long time lol. This is a VERY creepy game. I made it about 80% through and chickened out - I watched Gab Smolders play the rest on Youtube. The plot of this game was amazing. If you like horror (especially more sci-fi horror, because this isn't paranormal) this game is for you!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the story and the game play but what I did not like was having to do 2 more complete runs of it to try get the last 3 achieves that seem to be broken. It messes with my chakra as I like 100% on games.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well it was a great game until I got to where you pick up a flashlight almost 2 hours in and English becomes only spanish for any of the items you pick up or text, pages you find. I've read in discussions that it does eventually go back to english but I am very disappointed in how many i've found in that basement untranslated. The voice is still in english, however at this point I find that to be utter bs, and you have a few days to fix it before I refund due to that.(highly doubt that will…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't even begin to explain just how dark this game (even on max brightness) is, especially on the outdoor levels. It's so dark that it could be effectively called Blind Simulator. Trying to navigate through the inside of the cabin on the first level was one of the most frustrating and unpleasant experiences. Was literally walking in circles and using walls to guide me through the puzzle. Eventually I managed. Also, trying to walk forward using a controller is impossible, so a keyboard must…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game, amazing graphics and perfectly timed jump scares. Also great puzzles and just an all round great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you make your game this dark, then at least add highlighting on items, you can't see a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an all right horror puzzle game, not amazing by any means but not as bad as you might think looking at the review score. Only pick it up at a high discount though. I had an annoying bug where at some point in the game the language in documents changed and there was no way to revert it. So I missed some story parts and more importantlly couldn't solve the next puzzles, so I had to look up the solutions. At some point later on the bug was gone though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a great atmosphere, reminds me a lot of Resident Evil Village. The scares are good and love the puzzles that you have to solve. The lighting is a challenge, but you can change that in settings, which is great. One thing so far that is disappointing is that when you get into the basement in the mansion, just after you get the flashlight, the documents no longer are translated into English. This helps to get the background of the story. To not understand Spanish to get the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mediocre walking simulator with a few jump scares, a basic storyline, and lackluster puzzles. Props to the devs for working on their craft and it does have some okay environments. Will keep an eye out for their next one but this one feels half finished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This might have been a good game. Unfortunately even though the language was set to English in all possible places, the game switched to Spanish and it was impossible to switch it back. So I just couldn't finish it. I wouldn't recommend this game unless the developers fix the bugs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Much of the game's text is untranslated from the original Spanish when playing with English selected. I'm fine with brain teasers but many of the puzzles are deliberately obtuse or confusing. The "roaring kings" clue refers to how many lions there are in the mansion - there are two statues in the main hall, two next to the fireplace in far room separated by a hall, and then one hidden in a dresser. But none of them are visibly roaring (with their mouths open). The "corridor observers" clue is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well, it's a shame really. good atmosphere, a decent story and the graphics are ok. and then the game screws up because it can't decide in which language it wants to display its texts. I the have language set to english (speech and subtitles) and get the documents in english, german and spanish... which makes the mystery a dysentery for me. if there isn't a fix for this, I probably won't install this game again.
