And this game is a disappointment so huge, it's impossible to stay polite and care about others' feelings. It's hard to stop painfully wondering why the demo was so terrific and thrilling and why the final product is so bland and stupid. My take is that this is what happens when talanted independent developers with original ideas and shining eyes sell themselves to the…

Maybe not, but it was an interesting point and click adventure until the end. Two men trapped in a gloomy, backwater, foggy Croatian village where people disappear and the major has just been brutally tormented and murdered - with the wife, respectively sister of the two men one of the prime suspects. Is she a dark…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I always support indie games and give any game a chance before reviewing it. Having played the prequel of Saint Kotar, I was so excited to play the full game, but god, that was a mistake. The story starts off with a conversation between two main characters you've already met in the prequel. However, you'll feel lost as they are speaking. The plot is not clear. Even as you progress through the game, they keep introducing new people and names, without a glossary or a journal to refer to who is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a Kickstarter backer for Saint Kotar, but unfortunately, I was ultimately disappointed in the final result. it's a find thumbs down and there are some potential improvements coming that might change my review from a negative one to a positive one, but we will have to see. Saint Kotar is a weird version of The King in Yellow by Robert Chambers. It doesn't use every possible reference, (the lake isn't named Hali and there's no Cassilda,) but it's super close. The English translation isn't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started playing the game and I just... can't anymore. The dialogues are pretty dreadful. There's hardly any choice to them, you just have to make the massively unlikeable main character say one complicated line after another. The voice acting is also pretty bad. I've played for about an hour and nothing has been an actual puzzle or challenge yet. Overall a cringey and not fun experience.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit: well, I finished the game and I can say that definitely play through it again. There are a couple of spots where I know different choices would have brought different outcomes, and I'm eager to try them out. Nice job devs, the farther I got into the game the better it got. The game is a good adventure, and I hope we get more of them in the future. I was a Kickstarter backer for this game. The devs are from Croatia, as am I, and I was happy to donate for a digital copy of the game. As a…

Way back in the day, I used to own an adventure game called Nibiru: Age of Secrets . It was the first third-person point-and-click game I've played outside of one the King's Quest games, with an Indiana Jones-lite story as its focus. By far my most memorable experience with the game was a section where the player must figure out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had high expectations for this game, but unfortunately it's really hard to say I would recommend it to anyone. Pros are the atmosphere, the story (even if at some point it becomes a bit confused), the music - which are all very important aspects when I rate a game. Unfortunately it is impossible not to lose the patience by playing this game. Unfortunately the puzzles are almost non-existent, all you need to do is clicking endless dialogues. The whole gaming infrastructure is... absent.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately this game is a mess. The narrative is confusing and uninteresting. Way too many characters get introduced that basically serve little to no purpose except for extending the play time. I did by best to try to push through the story because I wanted to see how it ends, but it just keeps going and going. By the point I got to the asylum, I just couldn't anymore. On top the story is confusing and tries to force some twists by characters lying or whatever and much later revealing the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yet another adventure game I gave money to on Kickstarter that has annoyed me to the point I "rage quit" and uninstalled it. Because if a game is painfully slow, irritating to navigate, has one fun part early on (The leech man) and you find yourself thinking: "I'll watch a Let's Play if I really want to see what I missed" then the game has failed you and deserves to be gone from your hard drive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I can't recommend this game at all. Where do I begin? From the beginning? The first thing you'll be facing in this game is an unskippable tutorial, where you'll be stumbling around in complete darkness trying to figure how to get some light. A BIG no-no how to start the game. Interface is awkward and needlessly difficult to use, voice acting is poor at best and unbearable at worst. General tone of emotions is bland and most of the characters are pretty one-note. Timing of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a writer by trade, the start of this game did a big no-no. It told us what happened instead of showing us. It took forever to finally reach the part of the game where the characters can just wander around and explore. To explain what I mean: the game starts with a weird sequence set in a basement with stilted dialogue and child abuse. After the protagonist wakes up from what turns out to be a "dream," we have a very, very long conversation with the brother-in-law upstairs about "odd…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/7520163/]You can find hundreds of other reviews through our Curator page "Not for the Saint-hearted" Saint Kotar and I did not start on particularly agreeable terms. As a Point & Click adventure, it’s all a little stiff and clumsy. Everything is set to a pace that feels about two steps too slow, which isn’t ideal in a game that relies a lot on exploration and backtracking. There isn’t, for example, a way to skip through screens, and the best option…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most overrated recommendation I ever had gotten on twitter, this pile of carbage can't justify this game. Let me say it straight as it is that the game wants to be felt like a cult game where two persons wakes up in a house that have better AirBnB rating than this game! They figure out that the third person is missing from the house so they start looking for her within the village they live by, though the more clues the find the more they discover the cult in the village. If you…

Saint Kotar is a psychological and atmospheric horror game with themes of religion, witchcraft, and horrific rituals, and with gameplay involving point-and-click interactions and dialogue. The two protagonists are highly imperfect…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm actually kinda torn about this. I like the settings & the mystery. However there are a few things that kinda blocks me from recommending this one. There are many instances in the game where the developer "cheats" a lot of animations, by just fading to black. Instead of showing the scene, it's just fade to black, then it fades in and everything is done. A lot of this happened. I also wish it has the modern mechanism of double clicking on an exit, then it immediately swich to the next…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just play the demo, as it's WAY better than the finished game! The demo was spooky, intriguing, even scary to me. I was wondering what might be going on and wanted to find out - when I got the finished game and started to play I was shocked and am not sure whar happened. It's... boring! The dialogues take forever and don't say anything important. It's really strange how the demo was so great and the game now was such a let down. I got a refund at the end, couldn't bare to play longer. Such a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game, however there are some game-breaking bugs that prevent progression. Edit: The ending is a bit ... abrupt and does not really indicate it is the ending, since I received the same for a bad ending? However the setting itself was very good, the writing decent, not sure how 20 hours worth of gameplay is achievable though. Definitely worth the price. Would recommend to old-school players who played Gabriel Knight games from the 90s.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry to say it, but the game is a mess. Given that it’s from a small indie studio, clumsy animations and oversimplified tasks can be forgiven—but not the lack of a coherent narrative. None of the characters behaves like a real person. They bombard you with meaningless facts, strange accusations, and absurd demands. I can't imagine any real situation where people would act this way. What makes it worse is that the events they talk about sound genuinely interesting—but you never witness…

You can find the Croatian review [url=https://ffa.hr/recenzije/recenzija-saint-kotar/68413/]here. This is an abbreviated version of that review. Saint Kotar is a traditional p'n'c adventure game trying its best to fit in with the rest of the adventure greats. It plays like most standard examples in the genre - you explore a variety of locations, examine and interact with objects, talk…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Should've listened to the reviews, but it looked so interesting. This is the worst game I've played in a while. You play as what must be the whiniest, most self-absorbed and condescending fool in gaming history and in small, irregular bursts as his rectum of a brother in law. The story is faith this, faith that and moronic ramblings about one superstition over the other with a plot that literally only happens because nobody is willing to just talk and tell each other anything and turns out to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, especially for the Halloween. A classic adventure game with a creepy atmosphere, solid story and great scenes. The music is great. Plays like any adventure game. The story is interesting so far (murder mystery combined with the occult), and the setting is a nice change of pace from the usual tombs/lost cities. A small, dying village in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by dying nature and bunch of creepy townspeople. Like silent hill or Raccoon city, but more creepy. Not a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NP: Saint Kotar (2021) - This is apparently a Croatian game, so I'll be thinking of @kzvonaric.bsky.social while playing it.
unlabelledView post →Incoherent story, plots leading nowhere, inconsequential choices, endless dialogues and unmemorable character and place names. Visuals are OK, but a 3D rendered game with limited budget? Many times characters describe something just off-screen or, instead of action, the screen fades to black and we listen to the dialog. Better stick to pixel graphics next time. There's a one single cool thing in the whole game: once, the character switching mechanic shows us that two characters see the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ooooo....unfortunately the dialogue is really bad. And for a point & click adventure, that makes for a really bad game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Snooze Kotar" is a sleeping pill in a shape of a game. When you create a point-and-click game after 40 years of industry, you should know to avoid certain things. And you should know the story is everything in a mystery game. But the story in this game is as coherent as a beehive after 4 gallons of vodka. I don't know what they thought when they made this game, but it's clear they didn't know what they were doing. In the second half of the game, I gave up on trying to stay awake and just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love point click and even the unpolished but this one oh boy. I haven't even finished it yet but I don't think I will. Boring, talking talking talking and more talking and uninteresting. this is a point click narration you spend 97% just listening to ppl talk. the backgrounds are nice to look at, some creepy art but that's about it. I think they main character may have Parkinson, i mean that gait is a telltale sign. where there at suppose to be cutscenes it's just a black screen, lazy. and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I copy & paste my own review I posted today in a Facebook group for fans of the point and click adventure genre, here we go "O.K., folks, here's my short review of Saint Kotar. I purchased it on Steam with a slight discount, basically being hungry for a high quality gaming experience in the point and click genre. Of course, reviews are to a degree always subjective, but I'm frankly very disappointed. Into the top ten of my favorite adventures, it certainly won't find its place. Why ? It is just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Found this game through playtracker's seasonal challenges. An interesting point and click meets VN. Not much in the way of puzzles but bigger on mystery and horror if that's your thing. Fully text guided if you get stuck too! Gameplay was fine, a bit slow to walk around at times but double clicking had you running. I wish the hint for interactions was a different color, as it was incredibly hard to see sometimes. Especially if you play classic horror mode (I tried and had to quit early on)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mood is mysterious. Story interesting. But the longer i played it felt like a walking simulator which was runing the gameplay so had a hard time finishing the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a lot of indie games and am very lenient and forgiving of their flaws, but this was SUCH A DRAG. It's also not the shortest game there is and it actually feels double its actual length. The story is a convoluted mess and while I see comments and replies from the devs saying it's crucial for the story/character development/whatever... EVERY writer benefits from having an editor and objective feedback. When so many people tell you the dialogues are unnecessarily lengthy and the story…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm biased here because I grew up on Point-and-Click. I love it so much I'll probably get made fun of for it. I honestly enjoyed the hell out of this game; and yet at the same time I wish more time was invested in the history of the area, that it was longer, and maybe make Benedak less annoying, plz? :P I really enjoyed the effort, nonetheless. It reminds me of playing my Gabriel Knight games, so obviously it's a win. The music in this is astoundingly atmospheric and moody, so it's a perfect…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would say avoid this game unless you are really into eastern European catholic folk horror. I enjoy a lot of different types of horror and even noticed some references to early american horror stories including The King in Yellow by and various stories by Ambrose Bierce. But Saint Kotar was still too esoteric for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On SteamDeck it's not really playable: controls unusable, text is way too small.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really did not enjoy this game. I regret playing it all the way through; I should have stopped under 2 hours and got my money back from Steam. It's not at all a scary game; just gross and gruesome. It's a slow, tedious, click-through story with minimal game-play, just interminable dialogue to click through. And most of it didn't make any sense - well not to me anyway. Perhaps something was lost in translation?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played just a bit more than one hour of Saint Kotar - one hour that purely exhausted me with boredom, at such point my eyes were starting to shut, and I felt sleepy; worst part of this, I'm not even joking. So, as I honestly haven't played enough of it to be able to judge the game properly, I will go on...surely with pain, but I remain curious enough to wonder what's going on with this one. Somehow, some elements of the game compelled me enough to feel the will to talk a bit about it:…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On the surface Saint Kotar is an adventure game with outdated graphics, rather confusing story and very few easy puzzles. What makes is special is atmosphere - the devs managed to create something unique here, something rarely found in modern horror: atmosphere of oppressive dread. Once you explore Sveti Kotar for a while you'll notice that everything is vile, foul and rotten. Everybody including playable characters is traumatized and deranged. There is no glimmer of hope in this world, even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just. No. I skipped through the conversations because it got hideous after the tutorial. so i wanted to skip to the "gameplay". Well...I accidentally finished the game. Cool.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a classic adventure game. Very large game world to get lost in. I actually drew a map for this one. You help the main characters piece together what actually happened in that small town. Nothing is really as it seems, except for those things which are just as you would expect XD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Painfully boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Saint Kotar definitely cast its dark spell over me. The story is compelling and winds it way into an abyss of mysteries and horrific scenarios. Benedek is a strange hero (a monk, forced to find his estranged sister in a cursed valley) and many times I wished I didn't HAVE to click on one of his answers just to finish the dialog sequence as I often disliked what he had to say. On the other hand, these forced choices definitely explain his character and thinking, which is interesting but often…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros - Nice art-style for the most part. Some backgrounds had some nice lighting and particle effects. Sprites where sharp. - Solid UI, entirely playable with mouse, including saving and exiting the game. - Built in auto-save but also manual save with infinite slots. - Interesting puzzles. - Click to skip dialog - Right click to show all hot-spots - Pretty good voice acting. Cons - Characters can be slow to navigate a scene (no double click to teleport) also some times the run animation breaks…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best games I've played in a long time. Incredibly detailed, novel, and captivating plot. I don't remember it being tagged as a choices matter game, but was pleasantly surprised - there were many different branches to the storyline and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring them all. I'm not usually a fan of horror because it often seems like goreprn, but this game was so well done; it struck the perfect balance between violence and fear without being overly indulgent in either extreme. Also,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**issue resolved** I am not yet finished with the game, but I found the writing quite authentic and enjoyable. Both the occult lore and the sanctimonious preacher you play are accurate to their likable or unlikable qualities whichever you prefer. It feels like the writers actually did their homework flipping through some real mystic texts, and who hasn't spent time with some Christian a**hole. You do have to play the preacher, but you also get to force him into some morally ambiguous choices.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Saint Kotar is a very dark point and click adventure that may be a little divisive. There's certainly lots to like about it, but there are also a few things that stop it ranking alongside the very best titles in this space. The game is well put together with great graphics and (mostly) decent voice acting. The plot is intriguing and pulls you in, although it can sometimes become a little complex and confusing. Puzzles are mostly well-handled and rely on common sense and exploration, rather…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ok, i'll try to cut it short, as this 'accursed' thing has already taken far too much of my time. i have to warn you passenger, this is NOT a game, certainly not a point'n click adventure game, even though you may be fooled by its appearance, what with the inventory system, multiple characters you can meet and talk to and everything. what this thing is, is a horrid mix of visual novel and walking sim (slow walking sim though, as the incredibly repulsive and slouchy monk's running is actually…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, yes, yes, fully recommended. You are riding along in this trip with a sense of uneasiness that's shared with the main characters. The atmosphere is fantastic, music is really nice and the environments are well drawn. The story is convoluted, with unreliable narrators and shady NPCs with strange motives. Every now and then, you wonder if what you are seeing is really there or it's just a character's delusion, which is kind of what the creators wanted to do in the first place. The only…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You don't have many game titles with such unusual main characters. Brother in Law with Son-in-law, Benedek (Budapest Priest) and Nikolay (Monk), dual combo protagonists, wake up together in Strange house night before local strange festival. What? But it's not so usual if you are born in Balkan countries. And they are both on the same moral side. Or so it seems. Viktoria is gone and the mayor is ritually murdered in the small and dying and God Forsaken village, countryside in the middle of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've only scratched the surface of this game (a little over 4 hours in as of this writing), but you can feel the love and effort put into this game in every scene. Yes, there is quite a lot of dialogue to read/hear, but in this case, this is a good thing, since the writing itself is very well done. Kudos to the small development-team, you did a great job! P.S.: Looking forward to the DLC which is supposed to focus on the events just prior to this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an interesting game, and has many excellent points. But all in all I can only give it a weak recommendation. Pros: --Excellent, dark art style. --Very atmospheric. --Subtle but fitting music, with a couple of tracks that are so good that I find myself excited for the soundtrack. --Extremely dark, in a way that few games are willing to go. --I played through it twice and generally enjoyed the experience both times. Cons: --Extremely thin story that often doesn't make sense. A huge chunk…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This isn't an easy review for me to write. Overall i enjoyed the game, but it had a few flaws. The story is mostly okay, sometimes great, but the ending i got was quite underwhelming. The lore is interesting, it's very atmospheric and i liked the visual design, music and voice actors. With one exception there aren't any real puzzles in the game, it's mostly about the story with some choices that affect the story. There were some bugs in the game, but most of them have already been fixed.…
