Recommend!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have to start with a little premise: being graduated in foreign languages myself and a linguistics fanatic when I saw the game was basically becoming a Rosetta Stone aiming to unify 5 different populations I couldn't believe me eyes! This game, apart from the superb Mobius inspired visuals, is the big task of learning 5 languages and make everyone understandable to the other. To do this, you'll have to survive many stealth sessions (annoying, but not too hard luckily) and you'll have to…

unlabelledView post →If you asked me before playing this game 'would mandatory stealth sections improve your enjoyment of a puzzle game' my answer would have been no. After, it is still no. Luckily, everything else is exceptional enough to make these sections bearable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR : A good game that would have been so much better if it focused on what it was doing great, the glyph guessing part. The game is gorgeous, the music is good, the world is intriguing as a alternative Babel tower. The actual glyph guessing is really well made, it feels incredibly rewarding to finally understand a sentence, a sign you didn't get at all. In that aspect, it reminded me of Obra Dinn and Golden Idol, as a detective game that actually promotes doing deductions. The issue…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No combat, just me beefing with ancient glyphs. Accidentally spent hours decoding fictional languages. 10/10 would decode again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I appreciated that Chants of Sennaar included credits for the specific cats that voiced the cats of the game.

unlabelledView post →A short, but very enjoyable puzzle game all about decoding and translating fictional languages. While slow and a little annoying to navigate at times, the game more than makes up for it by letting you naturally explore and discover what all the different glyphs mean, how the people from different locations speak (like the difference in their grammar). My favorite part of the entire game was the translation sections of the terminals, trying to re-establish communication between these people, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chants of Sennaar is the most beautiful game I have ever played and the best puzzle game I have ever played. If you love translating languages mixed with puzzles set in a minimalist, Moebius aesthetic then run to play this.
unlabelledView post →Chants of Sennaar was so darn good. Finished it tonight and it's a lovely puzzle game that combines Obra Dinn and Tunic into a relaxing exploration of language and culture that I loved from start to finish.
unlabelledView post →Chants of Sennaar premise, on theory, is such a good idea. And then, it actually delivers on that idea. You are thrown into this mysterious tower filled with different peoples, different cultures, and, most importantly, different languages. But the game does not tell you what anything means, you have to figure it out. You observe symbols, connect them to objects, actions, people, places, and slowly start building meaning from context. The system is genuinely satisfying. Every time you…

unlabelledView post →I wish I could give myself memory loss so I could re-live the wonder of playing this game for the first time again. Not only are the graphics and soundtrack gorgeous, the gameplay is incredibly satisfying and intuitive. At no point does the game hold your hand, but every step and every puzzle is set up to incrementally introduce you to new concepts and allows you to arrive to the solution entirely on your own. As someone who has been playing puzzle games (both IRL, tabletop, and digital) for…

unlabelledView post →As a linguist, playing through this game for the first time was thrilling and delightful. I was so pleasantly surprised by the depth and variety of the languages presented in the game and how they became increasingly complex, as I am used to games where the "secret language" is just English but with the letters exchanged, like many fictional "languages". Clearly, the people who made this game are passionate about language and wanted to make a game that paid homage to as many world languages as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game a lot and wish there were more games like this. the whole process of slowly figuring out what each word is is so much fun. wish the last language had a little more figuring out like the other languages have, but the method introduced with the last language is also a lot of fun! also, fairly replayable, tho mostly so if you have some time between replays
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you (any applies) learn foreign languages grew up multi-lingual multi-cultural lived abroad for a longer time -> PLAY IT The game takes a very mature stance of "To understand the world, we must understand others." Shows very elegantly how language and culture are intertwined.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot for the life of me understand why this is Overwhelmingly Positive. Sure, the concept is interesting, but the implementation is terrible: this could have just been a point and click game, and the experience would have been infinitely better. Everything that is not point and click in this game is poorly designed and juste wasting the time of the player: the scenes are unecessarily huge, and any time you have to go between two locations, you spend 20-30 seconds watching your character…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing this game reminds me of my recent experience with FFX, where you collect language books to learn another language and gradually come to understand it. Unlike simply gathering books, however, this game has you write down notes for every glyph you encounter as you progress. After making certain progress, you can verify your guesses by matching each glyph to its corresponding image. I played this game on the Steam Deck, so using English, with its 26 letters for input, is more convenient…

unlabelledView post →The game has different maps, and each area feels very unique. The first few areas were actually more intense than I expected because you have to avoid the followers chasing you while trying to reach the end. My favorite part was the garden area with the bards. The atmosphere felt super unique, the music was really relaxing, and I loved the whole exotic vibe of the place. The puzzle design is also really cool. You slowly figure out what the symbols mean so you can unlock passwords and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A truly incredible game! Terribly original, clever, and poetic. Two layers of puzzles overlap throughout the adventure: first, the discovery and learning of the different languages that the game asks you to decipher through various interactions, and then more traditional puzzles that you must solve to progress. The two systems blend together smoothly and intelligently, even if it can sometimes feel a bit frustrating due to the amount of backtracking in the environments. Fortunately, these…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very fun and interesting game, in game documentary is superb as well, I don't have to write any clue down on a piece of paper or anything.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a cool and unique premise! In this game you will learn different languages from scratch using purely contextual cues and interacting with people. It has a super intuitive interface for this too, with a notebook where you write your guesses for the meaning of each character until you eventually confirm them. Love the themes of reconnecting people and basking in the cultural differences of each group within the tower. So much can be gleamed from a people just by its language. Which words…

unlabelledView post →Chants of Sennaar 10-15+ hours to complete, Chants of Sennaar is essentially just a giant logic puzzle loosely based off the Tower of Babel, where each civilization on the tower’s floors speaks a completely different language and you’ve got to translate and decipher each one to figure out what it is you are supposed to be doing to get to the top of it. While this may sound like a complicated game, it’s not terrible as the character is smarter than the player and gives you confirmation when you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm 100%ing every game I own. I then rank them. Chants of Sennaar was recommended to me after I had beaten Outer Wilds, as it was quite similar to it. And yeah. It is a game you can only play once. Chants of Sennaar is a game where you run around and learn new languages. The language isn't anything crazy, it follows a glyph based system. It is also pretty simple, such as "me like you" or "me go bye" The way you learn the languages is very fun though. You have a notebook that you record all…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →what a lovely little game a couple of the stealth sections were annoying, and the communication links stuff where you were translating... UI could be better(have what word each symbol means shown on the input side)... spent alot of time trying to find the right symbol to associate to a word.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played Chants of Sennaar for a little bit now and I quite enjoy the language learning system! Sometimes I would even wish that the game wouldn't tell you at all which words you used just for the true foreign language learning experience Love the stylistic choices, love the menus, gonna play more

unlabelledView post →Fantastic game. I’ll be rating this 9/10. Just finished my first playthrough and it really amazed me. I’m a language enthusiast myself and hence directly made my purchase after watching some online vids, but the gameplay is far more than just decoding the characters. In other words, it’s an intellectual and artistic expedition, a beautifully crafted journey about connection itself. The real magic isn‘t just in figuring out what’s everyone talking about, but in the moment everything clicks —…

unlabelledView post →A phenomenal deduction game based somewhat loosely on linguistics, leveraging heavily on the concept of linguistic determinism and relativism. Even if you aren't into that aspect of language, it's a great deduction and puzzle game. That said, if I never have to do this game's sneak minigame again it'll be too soon. I did come up against a particularly wild bug, where I had collected all the graphemes in the game, but the power went out, and when it came back up I was still in the last stage…
