What people are saying

Mixed reception: praised for fun gameplay and updates, but criticized for poor performance and monetization.

Many players praise the game's fun and satisfying combat, especially after performance updates. One player notes, 'As of 1/27/2026 I can wholeheartedly recommend this game. CAPCOM has made optimization improvements,' while another says, 'Great game before optimize patch, Super Smooth Great game after optimize patch.' [1][7]

However, many criticize the game's poor optimization and monetization. One player states, 'game used to run really badly, now it only runs moderately badly,' and another alleges, 'the new "Gold Edition" is massive extorsion.' Some also report crashes and connection issues. [32][29][36]

I've been holding off reviewing this game for a couple of reasons. Most people will know by now that PC performance of the game has been pretty bad for all but the most recent hardware. And even then it still has issues. Truth be told though, it's not that interesting of an issue to me. Beyond the fact that I have recent hardware and have never had any major problems running the game, the dumb reality of "AAA" gaming is that everything it broken and gets patched up later. So I decided to…

Thank you for an incredible 7 years with Monster Hunter: World! It's thanks to your support that the game has set Capcom record-highs, carving a path for the release of Monster Hunter Wilds in just over one month. What are your favorite Monster Hunter: World memories & accomplishments?

As of 1/27/2026 I can wholeheartedly recommend this game. CAPCOM has made optimization improvements, and given additional CPU settings that will make this game playable to a much wider audience. The gameplay is fun and satisfying. The weapon combos are relatively easy to chain, and the weapons genuinely all feel effective and unique. There's a wide variety of monsters to hunt in a variety of locations to customize difficulty to what you need. Endgame is still fun while offering a large…

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game. Released in February and the performance is still awful, arguably worse. This game needed to come out a year later at the very least, but the greed of meeting the fiscal yearly earnings ruined its potential. I really enjoyed this game, mostly at 30/40fps. the combat and gameplay loop is very fun. A big improvement from World, taking some ideas from Rise. If they follow through with fixing the performance, I might change the review, but currently,…

I have approximately 1,200+ hours across the franchise, including time spent arguing about motion values in spreadsheets that absolutely should have been used for real employment. I say this not as a flex, but as a warning: I am exactly the target audience for Monster Hunter Wilds… and this game still managed to exhaust me in a way that feels less like hunting apex predators and more like debugging a group project where no one read the design doc. Monster Hunter Wilds is what happens when you…

Going into this game I was eagerly excited. How could hunting monsters be anything other than extraordinarily invigorating? How could one possibly ♥♥♥♥ this up? I knew there were performance issues people complained about, but I was undaunted. I decided to support this franchise, one of the last that still sparks dopamine in me. Against common sense I bought the deluxe edition as a token of good faith to the dev team. Performance issues for me were rare, so I assumed it was just people with…

For anyone who prepurchased this game, bought it on release, or even shortly after, the new "Gold Edition" is massive extorsion. With 69.99+€ for the base game or upgrades and more paid for other DLC items, the base price of the current base game or DLC Collection would have already been covered. 10€ up and you could have had every single item that is now available. I purchased the base game and 14 DLC items bringing me at least to 100-110€ spent on the game. With that i could have bought…

It's recent performance improvements are kind of like going from crapping your pants, to pissing your pants instead. Technically better, but still not exactly a positive experience. It's actually quite impressive how you can get the exact same performance on both the lowest and highest presets in the game, with both CPU/GPU usage and FPS neither increasing or decreasing. They will of course say that their plan is complete and the game is now fixed, and people will clamber to praise them for…

I rarely leave reviews. I liked Monster Hunter World and was genuinely looking forward to this release. I even bought a copy for my friend so we could play together. The gameplay loop is a bit too simple, and my favorite weapon (sraaku) isn’t that good compared to its counterpart in Rise. However, the biggest issue I have with this game is its performance. It’s been eight months, and the company still hasn’t done anything to address it. This is the first game where I’ve actually had to…

When I think about Monster Hunter, I think of having to explore a map, learning the layout, find and keep track of the monster I need to fight, being careful about my positioning and commitment to moves, and having to fight a monster more than once or twice to finally get the equipment pieces I want or need. This game does nothing of the sort, and what is still present here, is heavily disincentivized. Maps are uninspired, uninteresting, just a blur of a single color, nothing striking,…

There are already many negative reviews that give very valuable feedback on the game. For whatever reason, it does not seem that anything is done to directly address issues raised by the playerbase. Rather, the devs have dealt with them peripherally, or just straight up insulted the playerbase with collaborations nobody asked for when technical issues are the most salient. There is nothing wrong with introducing new content, and it can be good when the game works. But the game barely works for…

I think it’s time to add a more grounded perspective to the discourse around Monster Hunter Wilds. Some of the criticism it’s getting is fair—but a lot of it feels like long-time players complaining about changes that don’t meaningfully harm the experience and, in many cases, actively improve it. For context, I’m not a diehard fan of the series. I played Monster Hunter: World, skipped Monster Hunter Rise, and came back for Wilds specifically because it addressed some of the friction points…

Having given it some thought, and having 100%'d it, Monster Hunter Wilds might be my least favorite game. I'm an old hunter. I started with Monster Hunter Tri back on the Wii and I love that game to bits. But I'm not some jaded old gen guy who hates everything new; Monster Hunter World is another of my favorite games, and though it had its issues, namely the uninteresting story and AWFUL endgame content, the game was still Monster Hunter at its core and I still enjoy playing World to this day.…

Not recommended and here's why As someone who has spent a few thousand of hours in Monster Hunter: World, Monster Hunter Wilds feels less like an evolution and more like a regression. The biggest difference is that World respected the hunt. You had to learn maps, track monsters, pay attention to footprints and environmental clues, and gradually master each locale. In Wilds, your Seikret automatically takes you wherever you need to go, monsters are immediately marked, and gathering materials…

The "not recommended" comes not from any issues with the game, combat design, or performance. I quite love offset attacks and wounds, I love the additions to the movesets of many weapons, not particularly bothered by the self-driving mounts, don't really have performance issues either. My specs (as seen below) surprisingly get me a fairly stable 60 fps (with like 50 fps lows at worst) most of the time at 1440p ultrawide on mostly max settings (no raytracing, FSR upscaling, no framegen, but…

Played every game since MH3, with World being my favorite. I was ecstatic about Wilds being essentially World 2.0, but it has been largely a disappointment. Unfortunately, there's too many glaring issues to recommend the game. My gripes have nothing to do with performance. I had around 60 fps on launch, and after toying around/light modding to get DLSS and frame gen to work with my GPU, I had a consistent 80-120 at all times, which I was fine with. My disappointments were mainly with how much…

Don't mind the hyper-negative comments. This is the duality of Monster Hunter. The game starts easy, then gets hard. Its always been the way of things. It starts off for babies, because "what if they're new to our series?" and then gets "14-hour shift at the ball-crushing factory" hard near the end. The biggest thing that makes the game "easy" is the movement. But people are very fussy, and are EASILY baited by nostalgia. Hence why all the "veterans" are whinging and all the newcomers…
