For that reason, I'm thankful @mitchellbeaupre.bsky.social and @letterboxd.social allowed me to consider my complicated feelings with BOYZ N THE HOOD.

unlabelledView post →One of the fun things about watching movies like BOYZ N THE HOOD, MENACE II SOCIETY or even STRAIGHT OUT OF COMPTON is that - unlike every other kind of movie made in the US - they consistently portray cops (ok, the LAPD) as the biggest loser dorks imaginable, 100% schlubby middle-aged white chumps

unlabelledView post →I might as well make this into a thread... 1. Boyz N The Hood Seeing Ricky get blasted in that alley was too much for me as I got older. I know it's just a movie, but the thought of depriving somebody of a promising future over a set is traumatizing...and it's bullshit

unlabelledView post →Rewatched Boyz N The Hood last night for the first time in a long time (maybe decades). I had forgotten how long the section with the kids was and how absolutely brutal Ricky's murder and the immediate aftermath are. Great movie, particularly for a director as young as John Singleton was.
unlabelledView post →Made for an interesting double feature with Boyz N The Hood. Beyond what the film has to say about class and gang culture, I think this one also has a lot to say about the nihilism that this sort of environment can instill in the people living there. Regardless… Caine’s kind of a dumbass.
unlabelledView post →35) Boyz N The Hood Another Fishburne movie this time with Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr. The raw and gritty depiction of living in the hood hits close to home. While this movie doesn't have a language filter, but the acting is so good, it did got me choked up. 8/10

unlabelledView post →I strongly dislike all the videos with the Boyz N The Hood saxophone. I swear most people who post those have never seen the movie. If they had, they should know better than to so frivolously throw around such a triggering siren call
unlabelledView post →Okay so you got parents like mine cause if they wanted to see a movie that meant *I* had to see that movie. Ricochet, Boyz N The Hood, didn't matter if it was R or PG-13, I'm sat.
unlabelledView post →Boyz N The Hood. My father was pretty liberal about what films / TV I watched as long as I leave during sex scenes. I was about 3? RoboCop is also another one but I watched it on my own. Loved that movie to death.
