unlabelledView post →When 54 came out it was a fine film—good, but swallowed up and eclipsed by the sheer quality of other 90s indie gems like BOOGIE NIGHTS. The 2015 director's cut, however, is a work of genius. Like KINGDOM OF HEAVEN director's cut good. Snap this up before it's gone.

unlabelledView post →Rewatched Boogie Nights (1997) the last time I watched it Philip Seymour Hoffman and Burt Reynolds were still alive and Mark Wahlberg was still trying to be a good actor. It’s a great movie. The first PTA I saw and still maybe my favorite
unlabelledView post →I at least find Cruise's movies entertaining, like all the Mission Impossibles and Top Gun: Maverick, etc. The last Wahlberg movie I wanted to watch was Boogie Nights.
unlabelledView post →Did a rewatch of BOOGIE NIGHTS. What a great film. Crazy that Burt Reynolds and Mark Wahlberg both denounced it later, the ingrates. It's the finest role of Burt's career. It made Marky Mark. Reynolds did so because he was a petulant prima donna. Wahlberg got a crippling case of the Catholics.

unlabelledView post →I remember when I saw Babylon thinking “when I saw Boogie Nights, Mean Streets was 25 years old. Now Boogie Nights is 25 years old and young filmmakers are emulating this movie”
unlabelledView post →Ok I understand the comments here where people are saying they dislike sex scenes that don't advance the plot. However there are certain movies where sex scenes are essential to the plot such as Boogie Nights. I can also think of examples like The Name Of The Rose where a sex scene is thematically improving the film (in my opinion). Sex scenes in film/tv are hard to get right but I'd prefer if directors worked harder to capture/deploy them properly rather than a large facet of human experience…

unlabelledView post →Vividly remember seeing Boogie Nights in the cinema & being drawn to the heavyset guy who barely had any lines. Even now he’s one of the most memorable parts of the movie. At the time I had no idea why…
unlabelledView post →It was purported when Tarantino left the theatre after seeing Boogie Nights - that he was visibly shaken at how incredible that film was and his ego couldn't handle it. This is why he's never made a film to equal it & why Anderson is the better filmmaker.

unlabelledView post →BOOGIE NIGHTS (1998) remains undefeated, in my mind, as PTA's finest film because it's the only one that confronts America's (and PTA's own!) attraction/revulsion complex toward queer AMAB sexuality

unlabelledView post →Licorice Pizza is on BBC2 at Midnight. On the off chance you haven't seen it I think it's Andersons most warmhearted film since Boogie Nights. The kind of film that gives romantic comedy a good name. Plus I've never seen a film that won me over so convincingly just with an opening sequence.

And I don't think most people outside the film-nerd bubble remember any of his movies except There Will Be Blood and Boogie Nights. (MAYBE Magnolia, but I wouldn't bet my house on it.)
