Sea of Love
Seen-it-all New York detective Frank Keller is unsettled - he has done twenty years on the force and could retire, and he hasn't come to terms with his wife leaving him for a colleague. Joining up with an officer from another part of town to investigate a series of murders linked by the lonely hearts columns he finds he is getting seriously and possibly dangerously involved with Helen, one of the main suspects. 60 of 79 · most liked firstRevisiting SEA OF LOVE (1989), an electrifying erotic thriller with great performances from Al Pacino and Ellen Barkin. Imho a lot of the recent movies calling themselves erotic thrillers could take some lessons from the good ones we had back in the day, like this one. #filmsky

It's a complete FMV game reimagining of the core 50s B-movie concept of a giant ant invasion of a small town. Best part of it? The intro tune: The Sea of Love. It's so fittingly cheesy.

Rewatch. I like when an interesting actress like Barkin can lead a high-profile studio film. #filmsky 📽🎥🎬🎞

By the way, in another bit of 80s movie trivia, Samuel L Jackson has a cameo in 'Sea of Love' & is billed as "black guy"-just rewatched a few days ago, probably 1st time since it's release

unlabelledView post →America has always been weird abt sex but I think some of the weirdness u're seeing around sex on film is from a bunch of folks who didn't grow up w/ Fatal Attraction, 91/2 Weeks, Sea of Love, Basic Instinct, Sliver, Disclosure, & Jade's in their Cinema's as a regular part of their movie food groups

unlabelledView post →We should also never forget that the example Snyder uses to explain his whole Save the Cat rule reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of the film Sea of Love. We don't have the scene of Pacino refusing to arrest a criminal in front of his son in order to show us what a great guy our hero is...

Steamy neo-noir starring Al Pacino as a troubled NYC homicide detective tracking a serial killer that is using the personal ads to select victims. He starts a relationship with a smouldering Ellen Barkin who may or may not be involved in the murders.

Gets involved with a suspect - the stunning Ellen Barkin, and there's a *very* sexy scene of them hooking up. Fantastic!

And Sea of Love is like cocaine teeth grinding on film? None of that. It's clinical. Which is appropriate because the main POV character, Julianne Moore, is an OB-GYN.
