I will probably look at this review another 5 years from now playing it on whatever GPU i will have at the time then. It's still a lot of fun and you have a lot of tactical options when playing through the missions (I'm a big fan of setting up defensive trenches filled with infantry to protect my artillery), but it could really use a remaster. Tanks are glass canons in this game (it's amazing how easily they die), but over all I still love the game.

From sleepy French towns to a snowy Ardenne forest during the Battle of the Bulge, to the North African Campaign. The sprite design of the units makes this timeless, in my opinion. It's graphics/art has aged very well but a considerable amount of missions consist of simply bombarding the enemy and clearing out certain spots to win. Only burning horizon and rolling thunder work okay. Buy if you are fine with just doing the 2 expansion packs and you are fine/used to the gameplay. Other than that i can't recommend it, not worth 5 bucks unless crashing gets fixed.

Hours and hours of enjoyment commanding platoon through company size units to complete objectives and destroy your opponents. Nival is the bomb with these Blitzkrieg series games.

Pathfinding can be janky at times, particularly when trying to reverse tanks. But for the most part it plays clean and smooth. The gameplay is better than the newer ones imho. ***Make sure you know you can turn the language to Russian in game properties to access a ton more content (Total Challenge missions etc). I wish these could be accessed in English but so be it.

Difficult due to limited AI: you will often run into situations where you have to fight superior units, but the game is so simplistic, that your options to tackle the problem are few. I think the game expects you to just give up and walk away from those fights till you've grinded enough to unlock more units, or better units, but you are capped on the quality of unit you can get per chapter, so quantity becomes the only option. Graphics are dated, but I think it still looks great for its time. Not having to worry about resources really allows you to focus on combat, which still seems like a breath of fresh air from other RTSs so many years later. Lastly, the UI is intuitive and never really feels clunky. To me, this is just a pure fun RTS that will likely never be topped.

The thing I like most about this game is that it is just hard enough to keep me engaged and thinking about how to approach a given situation, but never so hard that I find it frustrating to play. Use your armour and infantry to break through with support from your air force. Save your progress as you go, so there is no need to reach the end of the mission each time you play, Quite frankly one of the best games I have ever played! as a tip use Numerpad + to speed up the game if it is too slow for you.
