I first saw this game back in the Autumn of 2004 on a late night Bulgarian TV show. It was late Friday night, the rain gently pouring outside, I was browsing through the channels, when I saw a game, and it immediately grabbed my attention. It was quite unusual to see a game being played on TV. The show continued all night (until 4 AM). At the time, I knew nothing about this game or the adventure quest genre, but seeing Black Mirror was love at first sight. Back then, having no internet at…

Once you plow through astonishingly slow animation, bad models, terrible voice acting (just from the protagonist), and some brain numbing puzzles - you will find a decent game. I will give a weak recommendation of this game to Adventure Veterans ONLY. The puzzles are hit and miss. The use of the right-click is one of the most terrible applications in any adventure game i have played - it is deceptive and misleading. The protagonist's voice acting is plain unacceptable, even though there is a…

Those who didn't grow up playing this game back in early 2000's will never understand or appreciate how amazing it is. There are many recent negative reviews about how slow the animation and character is. Yes, in today's world, it is slow, but back in 2003-2006, it was one of the best games I have ever played. I still play the trilogy due to the great story line and nostalgia. I wish someone would create a reboot of the original series (not the 2017 version). Now that would be amazing.

I both loved and hated Black Mirror (I)! While I very much enjoyed the games storytelling it's UI, mechanics, and some serious bugs hinder it's enjoyability. Starting off with what I loved, the story is a detailed supernatural murder mystery. I loved all the detailed letters, books, and journals you get to "read" to learn ore about the context and history of the Black Mirror world. You actually have to pay attention to the conversations and clues you glean from the various people and…

I love this game. I background listen to longplays of it constantly. The main character is the most charming weirdo with an unforgettable voice that walks around this English village asking everyone incessant questions. The supporting cast are all memorable and have the same stilted way of speaking. The environments look great for the time and the story is interesting up to a point. So it's with a heavy heart that I still have to recommend against actually playing this game. There's two main…

I didn't completely hate this game but I can't recommend it because there have got to be better uses of your time among adventure games out there. I'm not going to say I didn't have any fun playing this game but I also spent a lot of time banging my head on my desk in frustration. The voice acting is pretty bad -- there are some bright spots but the voice of the protagonist is especially grating, not to mention his attitude, which would make me want to punch this guy in real life. Some of the…

(English) Black Mirror is truly hard to categorize. Compared to modern P&C adventure games it is unforgiving and difficult. There is also a kind of clunkyness in the character animations and voice acting, which, to be honest, is sort of hilarious and grows on you over time; it has a very unique style. Now let us analyze the difficulty, which is both a positive and a negative. First of all it is refreshing to see puzzles that actually require some foreknowledge of the world. This ranges from…

This is an 'old' gem. And by old I mean you will find a lot of flaws of early 2000s point and clicks, but there are walkthroughs to help and the game makes it worth the effort. A great story, lots of characters and reveals, and the puzzles are fun I solved all of them without needing the walkthrough. I just needed it because these old games don't have a 'journal, hint, task list' function so I was sometimes lost for what I was supposed to do next. I am going to buy the next two games in the…

A classic of the Dark Adventure era that is flawed yet thoroughly entertaining. No other game does Gothic like Black Mirror I (2003). Samuel Gordon arrives at the family mansion to attend the funeral of his grandfather, William Gordon, who, somehow, decided to throw himself out of the window one rainy night. Right on top of a spiky fence. While stranger things have happened, that doesn’t really seem like grandpa to Samuel. He was obsessed with family history (that spans centuries) recently and…

There's a great adventure game in here somewhere, buried under a reeking heap of nonsense and technical issues. The sound design, ambiance in specific, can be super atmospheric. Some of the puzzles are neat, and the game never REALLY does that, "Wait, the solution is WHAT?" thing. The story seems interesting and flows in a way that I enjoyed. Before you get it, if you get it, I want to let you know what I found out the hard way - there's a puzzle in the game, about 10-11 hours in, which is…

Black Mirror is not a bad game, but it has definitely aged over the years. The Good: The atmosphere is fantastic; strong art direction really lend a hand to bring the space to life, and the sheer volume of backdrops is surprising. The story is good and a lot of the puzzles are great (I remember the time when Pluto was a planet). The Middling: The voice acting and dialogue is all over the place, the MC being the most egregious case where his tone and choice of words do not really match his…

If not for the story and incredible atmosphere this would have been only an okay game. Often the game tells you little to none what to do next. The puzzles are mostly logical maybe except the stage before the very end where it comes to just trial and error. The worst case is when you have to wander around locations without any objective because you have to "wait" for other characters to do something. And by "wait" i don't mean actually wait some time but you have to go from location to…

The game starts promising enough, with a dark tale of your family heritage, but soon the game gets in its own way. In the first chapter, the game teaches you that time progresses after certain events happened (you spoke with someone, you looked at something etc.) and that's fine. But in the second chapter, it throws it out the window and suddenly time advances by just leaving and re-entering a scene. For example, you have to leave and enter the pub three times for a certain item to be there.…

Black Mirror I, developed by Future Games in collaboration with Unknown Identity and published by THQ Nordic, is a traditional point-and-click adventure that fully embraces gothic horror in both tone and structure. Set in the early 1980s, the game follows Samuel Gordon as he returns to his family’s ancestral estate after the sudden and suspicious death of his grandfather. What begins as a personal inquiry gradually spirals into something far more unsettling, pulling Samuel into a web of family…

My favorite horror point&click adventure game even though it probably didn't age well... Bear in mind, this is a game from 2003 so it comes with the little hiccups we dealt with back then: no "show items" option, inconsistent use of the right mouse button, characters move a bit sluggishly and don't look too well-animated, no "hand holding" so you have to figure out what to do next yourself. Parts that were inexcusable even back then are the Zodiac slider puzzle, and at least four times,…

An okay story. Really could have had MORE. More atmosphere, more dialogue, more story. As with a LOT of point & click games you've got to go to point A and learn that you need something from point B. Asking the NPC's for something and being told to wait means that you need to revisit every place and talk to every person you can (sometimes multiple times) before you can progress forward. Locating some items is logically progressive and yet a lot of the time you'll have to pixel hunt in the…

A slow-paced richly plotted dark mystery adventure game with dated mechanics (pixel hunting...) that sadly guarantee you need a walkthrough, even though the puzzles themselves are logical throughout (degenerating into trial & error only towards the end). A classic old school point-and-click game, but a dark horror one. IMPORTANT: Make several save files in case you mess up - otherwise you'll get stuck and will have to restart the game. I also recommend using a guide since older games, like this one, aren't always straight forward in what to do/go next. I highly recommend using TheRICH's guide :)

I really wanted to like this more than I did but, unfortunately it's quite dull coupled with some infuriating puzzles. The story is OK, however, the protagonist walks and talks at a glacial pace, which really grates the longer you play. You must also save often as it's possible to accidentally die or do something wrong effectively ending your quest without so much as a warning. If it wasn't for nostalgia, I don't think I would have continued with it.

The story is entertaining and whilst I did eventually figure out who the murderer was myself, it was most of the way through chapter 5. This game wouldn't stand today's gameplay standards for the lack of replayability, and this is one of the key reasons behind the demise of the adventure games genre as a whole. Nevertheless, if you can get it on sale, and back in early 2000s you were already a gamer (or you can adjust your expectations accordingly), you're going to enjoy Black Mirror. In a point-and-click game, the story and puzzles matter most. However, I can't say anything about them: within an almost 4-hour playtime, I triggered only one puzzle. The rest of the time was spent dragging back and forth between a few NPCs, while the story barely moved an inch. I wish I had spent these 4 hours walking outside. Just like in this game,…

This game is pure and utter garbage. I plan on finishing it, but I have just now rage quit after the third fun little "wait around in the game for an event to occur". First and foremost, the pacing in this game is beyond dreadful. The general speed at which your character walks, the speed in which other characters move, or the speed of unskippable events is at a snail's pace. You have to sit there and listen to the longest, most pointless small-talk dialogue for minutes upon minutes. The…

The good old days, when adventuregames were still hot and still available on disc. I just love to have my games on disc, but alas! Some people complain that the game is slow, but that is not something that an adventure gamer would complain about. Actually a short adventure is not really an adventure, is it? I love the voice- acting and the whole atmosphere is great. The successors were unfortunately not of the same quality, but still quit nice. : )

It is very much like Syberia but you can die, and oh did I die A LOT, don't know why I had to look through BOTH holes... The CGI scenes aren't as good though, still nice for it's age.

Unfortunately this game is not fun. The Dialogue and animations take forever. It is very go here then go here then go back to where you were to find something that you have to know where it is to find it. Note I did not finish the game (just finished chapter 3 / out of 6) and the story never started getting interesting. I'm sure the only reason this game has positive reviews is from a nostalgia sake of other people. However, I did not play this game growing up. Do not play.
