60 of 177 · most liked firstI let this one sit in my library for years before finally playing it.... because i played the beta in another platform and was waiting it to be finished. and after playing 3 hours, this is no longer the game i loved... the main issue is obvious... you are locked behind a level grind to use any and all ships.... this is just plain stupid, im not going to play this 200 hours just to unlock a few more ships and die to the RNG gods.... the level progression is just off, if you would unlock the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this one in a little bundle and as I started playing, I thought it looked familiar. It was! I'd played a mobile space combat game called Harbinger a couple years back and it was really cool for a cell phone game. This PC version? Not as much. Like the mobile cousin, it's got pretty nice graphics and plays smoothly, but it's way harder and requires a lot of grinding to get anywhere. It's still fun but more of a roguelike, so you'll die a lot but carry forward your experience so you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game where to play, you have to grind for a better starting ship, for HOURS (and it's not exagerated), by just dying over and over on hard mode. The dev took the time to fix the amount of XP you get by doing that (reducing it), but never balanced anything else to make the game enjoyable from the start. There is no knowledge diff as usually in roguelikes. From what I understood, it's a game developped for mobiles at first, but the dev didn't care to balance it for pc. So, don't waste your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is ok. It's a top-down 2D Captial Ship auto-shooter. You pilot around your slow boat, and fight other slow boats, and your turrets fire at each other. You can buy and upgrade and sell weapons and subsystems for your ships fixed hardpoints. You can also buy additional ships to order around. The galaxy and such are all randomized each run. The gameplay is fine, controls are functional if not always easy with multiple ships. It just doesn't really do much to set itself apart from other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game because I thought it would be similar to the battles in Day of Saggittarius, and I found exactly what I was looking for. I haven't played many games of this variety, so I can't compare it to others in the genre, but the space theme is super cool and it runs great on my laptop. I love space!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →has an annoying pop up that you automatically click the ok button which tabs out of the game to some add for another space game, but this tabbing out wrecks the game and it needs to be crashed out, happened twice now. Annoying enough that I refunded. Game seemed to be quite brutal from what I could see, I expect you die a lot, game loop appears to be very small.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat concept but it's slow and boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2D spaceship RTS. Start with one ship to customize and fly on missions; add more ships to make a squadron. Encounter aliens, black holes, asteroid fields and nebulae. The game is roguelike in that you have a map of navigable spaces that is randomly generated each time. The aliens you encounter are always hostile, but come in different flavors, with different technologies; a given map has missions associated with one particular flavor. The missions are also randomly generated, so far…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Honestly I cant recommend it if you pay for it. The game is basically a collection of small annoyances and these glimmers of lost potential. There's too much wrong to make it worth a purchase. To many bugs, too much bad controls and far far too many confirmation dialog boxes. YES I want to repair for free, NO you don't need to ask if I'm sure. 3 Bad sectors? Sure. But make the 3rd one unique. What they did was 2 hull damaging sectors and 1 shield damaging. Rather than being mechanics to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I suppose some grace can be given for where video game design was 10 years ago but nevertheless, this game is full of wasted potential. The basic gameplay is compelling but the progression is nonexistent. It's not even a proper roguelike since your failures don't even lead to meaningful progress. It's super slow progress to unlock new ships and every freaking ship is just as weak in the early game as any other, no matter what stats it carries. And why is it weak even when it has 3 times…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I LOVE THIS GAME. I don't mind the grind. I don't feel like it's abusive at all and does a pretty good job piecing out a new ship here and there with some achievement based unlocks to break up the straight leveling. Great game for picking up and playing for a couple quick runs or really taking your time with. It doesn't reinvent the wheel or anything. It doesn't have crazy awesome graphics and cinematic cutscenes. It's just a really good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very grindy. Progression within a game is limited, and can be capped about 20% of the way through. After capping progression, the enemies keep getting tougher so its impossible to survive with low tech available. Roguelite progression of ships between games is dependent on either consistently getting 50-90% of the way through the missions, or playing hard mode and killing yourself a bunch to rack up xp. Overall, its just not fun to be locked out of higher tier ships based on a grindy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Follow our [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/36214917/]Curator Group for more reviews Battlevoid: Harbinger is a roguelike strategy game that blends games like Starsector and FTL into a semi-unique take on the genre. I say semi-unique because even though I’ve never played a game quite like it, nearly every mechanic is present in either Starsector or FTL. Combining these games results in an atypical experience, but to me, it always felt like a worse version of both. Battlevoid’s…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoy Battlevoid! I got this game because I liked Space Haven from the same devs, which I also recommend. I am not sure how best to convey what I enjoy in this game. It looks simpler on the surface than it really is. I did need patience to get better and discover a few tactics that make winning easier. I had a lot of fun at first, just running in there "guns blazing" and getting my azz kicked pretty bad each time. Then I felt a bit frustrated for a while, because I had not figured how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →kind of wish there are more of this kind of games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Congratulations, you've managed to make a roguelike mini-build a ship game that was NOT enjoyable. Super grindy, scaling in general is awful (especially in regards to cash, you either have none or you have a huge amount that isn't useful anymore). And frankly there's very little reward for "Well designed/coordinated" ships/fleets - just get the biggest ship/toughest/most point defense ship up front in your formation and place the most hangers you can in the rest of the fleet - win everything.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you ever have a few spare hours, definitely check this out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave it enough time to figure enough of the game out. If you are a masochist by all means this will be another game that gets your rocks off.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, just wish you could turn off the flash when jumping/arriving to the next system. I think I may prefer this over FTL, tough call. EDIT: OMG THERE IS AN OPTION!!! You just need to scroll down in the settings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a really fun and easy to get into Fleet battle game. It has sector jumps and missions within them similar to that of FTL. The combat is NOT like FTL however, but that's fine. It's great in its own right as its real time and pretty in-depth despite how simple it may look at a glance. For $10 (often $2 on sale) this game is a steal. Jump from sector to sector taking out enemies, helping allies or civilians, get loot and upgrade your ships. Buy bigger ships. All while running around with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome if you like min-maxing and micro-actions (I do). It gets repetitive but the core loop is so fun I keep replaying it. Even just the different between lasers, energy guns, and missiles makes it fun to try different builds. Lots of fun for the right player.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It might be an interesting trifle, except it's way too grindy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game balance is weird, on one hand you can become unbeatable and obtain powerful items on the first map making the rest of the run trivial, on the other you get crushed by a random enemy fleet in less than a second because they have 4 death rays and focus fire your flagship. It just feels like the roll of a die too much, you are either bored or angry.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[Edit after 10 additional hours: The game is just really really bad. Even on easy if you don't play overly safe and just grind away there's no hope for you and you'll still spend an hour to earn 1/20th of an xp level to play with other ships] ~The game is very unbalanced and you have to hug stations for awhile and kinda cheese enemies. ~The actual number of weapons in the game are incredibly limited (none of which you control) ~You level up incredibly slow so you'll be level 2-5 for seemingly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a really good, simple 2d space roguelike. 4 levels, 3 difficulties, with a handful of ships and things to pick from. I think I played this one about 5ish years ago? Not sure why I only had an hour in it, but whatever got added was worth a good 30 hour run. it's difficult, but learning what works and what doesn't was good fun. Didn't feel like I ran into any filler either. Really good for a weekend or a short break game. Adding it to favorites for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well polished roguelike space combat sim.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little 2D space battle game. Responsive Devs proven to solve problems :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't work on my new laptop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't knew the mobile game "Battlevoid: first contact" had released this game. It was one of my favorite games to play on the phone and I knew before it had potential. I've played the mobile version of first contact years ago and finally I have a similar version of it since it's the same developer. I am so glad i'm able to pay it for support. i'd love to see more of this style of gameplay. <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →simple to learn hard to progress equip choices matte.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little game! I'm enjoying it. Meta progression is a bit slow and I wish there was some deeper customization options for ships (engine hardpoints, equipment hardpoints) rather than just weapons and point defenses, but it's fun mixing and matching ships and weapons to see what works.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 26 hours, I'm still on level 3. I have unlocks a grand total of THREE (3) ships...26 hours. Dont waste your time. I did. Don't get me wrong, I WANT to enjoy this game, but the progression is just too slow to be fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played this game more than i should, why? it is a good time killer! The game can be a grind to unlock ships and to complete the game, however you can play to try and better your score which to me adds extra time to achieve not just the unlocks but to understand the game fully rather than play it win then go on and leave it. What I personally like is the customisation of the ships and the tactics of the battles which can be basic but still can be a learning curve, as some of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, this game is clunky, and the interface is so far from intuitive... I couldn't even get into the game without being annoyed. Seems like a game made with a pre-made library, and someone stuck it all together with no story/intent behind the game. very odd.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →killed time, didnt have to concentrate much, got it for 3 bucks so already feel that ive made my money back
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pausable tactical space combat game where you explore a map of systems, get in fights, and carry out missions. Unfortunately the game is extremely grindy. Grind for new weapons, new ships, and upgrades to your weapons. Then lose one of your ships in a battle and do it all over again because the ship and everything you invested into it is totally gone. If either the grind were easier or there was some way to recover lost ships, it wouldn't be so bad, but as it is it's a slog.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Light version of "Space rangers", simple and interesting.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game for probably over 1000 hours on Android (phone) and this was my primary game for "on the go". Of course I'm not particularly thrilled with this PC port because I expected the game to have more content and be significantly expanded considering that this is a PC version, but they didn't do any of that and I'm just a little disappointed about that. I would definitely recommend getting it for your phone and having it in that format for "on the go" play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game centered around spaceship battles an customisation, very underestimated and underrated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple and interesting
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Might have played it a little too much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rogue-like Space Crawler where you collect new weapons and try to fight your way from cell to cell to get to the end of the map. Something to pass the time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a surprising amount of fun, we could say it's a more arcade version of Starsector
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nicely executed 2D space combat game - could be expanded into a cool open world space game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Massive space fights? custom ship load outs? lots of factions with unique weapons? its rouge like? oh yeah its my cup-of-liberty
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gonna give this one a thumbs up, though it can be frustrating and I feel it has quite a learning curve. Pretty basic, you have a ship, and you fly around a star cluster trying to do missions, improve your ship, actually buy additional ships for your fleet (I think it's a max of two?) and I guess eventually finish the over arching mission, something I haven't even gotten close to. The speed of the ships is the most frustrating thing, you're not zipping around, it is agonizingly slow to move…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to agree with a lot of others. This game is pretty grindy. I'm pretty confident the ships you have access to initially aren't good enough to win on easy. To actually get far in a run you need to play it safe and spend a lot of turns picking off small groups.. but the game also takes points away from you for each turn your run lasts. The hazardous tiles are a huge pain in the ass. You're not able to queue jumps through those systems so you're often stuck going to them then waiting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to like this game, but the screen resolution options are completely messed up for me. if i play on 1920 x 1080, the pixel density is the same as my computer natively, but the image is cropped off the top of my screen. If i reduce it to 1280 x 720 then its no longer cropped but alt tabbing completely messed up the game since the pixel density is different from my system. Almost unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Roguelike pew-pew in space.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a good game to chill. sounds trigger u to go on but in a smooth way. nice game to come down
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No real sense of progression for a roguelike, can't find better ships during a run because you need to unlock them by grinding out runs. Hangar fighters/drones are basically a requirement because without them you will get rapidly overrun, point defense can only keep up with like 2 fighters at a time and every enemy will have 3+ on the field. Tactical combat is ok but very slow and there's nothing for you to do besides position ships and focus fire a target. It might get better after unlocking…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game literally made me who I am today, its extremely challenging but extremely fun. One of my few childhood games that actually stand up to time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a few bugs here and there, cant beat the game unless you grind to max level and pray for rng to be on your side. honestly even the ships that are unlocked at just under max level cant win. and the random amount of starting scrap? also bs. every time i've played its always the exact same method to winning. sh*t loads of laser drones. ion cannons, photon cannons, and obscenely rare drops like mega cannons or death rays. unless you're so lucky to get more than 2k starting scrap you wont make it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play this game when I want to ruin a good day. Such a tedious grind and the ability to grow a fleet is ridiculously crippled to the point it's just frustrating on some run throughs. Not even worth buying when it's on sale. I'll probably pick it up on and off again because I'm an achievement ♥♥♥♥♥ and like everything else in this game, those too are a grind.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasy to pick up and get going.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's the 30 hour mark, I beat Easy mode 5 hours ago but just now I tried something incredibly micromanagerial on Normal mode, to my temporary success. Never say die!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this on my phone years ago and loved it. Now it makes for a great laptop game. Totally worth the money when on sale!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, easy to marathon, but no good stopping points. Get ready to spend some time at the keyboard or have good time discipline.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this type of game the most. if only my fleet can by bigger without ship type restriction.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is fun for a while, but it is also a little bit too starty-againy. Be prepared to not be prepared for what you encounter and run away! And be prepared to not care about anything as it is fleeting.
