But its pretty obvious, the game was meant to goad you into buying coins in order to upgrade your team members. Earning coins without completing missions is next to impossible and completing missions without upgrading is...difficult even on "easy" It could be fun but its just like everyone else says, its a mobile game port.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is obviously a game designed for tablets and the PC version hasn't been thought out at all. The controls are a pain to use, and it even says "tap here" a lot of the time. Very lazy port.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOTE: Review is complete now. Played through the game in its entirety. Additions are in italics. First things first, the price is right. Regardless of quality, you can seldom go wrong when you see a price like this. The art style of the game is fantastic. It's not something I'd expect from a game with a price tag this low. The second thing I noticed is the music. I spent some time sitting at the main menu eating my lunch before I got into playing, just listening to the music. Many people…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the game is cheap and can kind of fun at times, it inevitably gets dragged down by its major flaw: it gets boring pretty fast. See, this is a port of an iPad game that featured microtransactions. And, although they're no longer present in the PC port, you can still see their influence in the design of the game, because you either grind your way through the same missions over and over again just so you can afford the upgrades to beat the harder levels or... well, with no microtransactions…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some very nice things in this game but ONE major flaw. The content is very small, i did finish half the campaign in like 2hours. But the game can be very long actually because if you want to finish it you need some good gear. To reach this, you need a lot of money and when i say a lot, i think a huge amount of monney. Only one way to get it, redo and redo again the same missions. Count like 10 times each (just a guess, from how much upgrades cost in shop and how much you gain from one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The interface feels clumsy and badly adapted from a touch screen interface to mouse and keyboard. There is no save / load, which might be OK for a mobile game but is a no-go for a PC game. You have exactly one "save slot", which is used automatically to continue where you left. But that's it. Gameplay is frustrating. Every mistake (which is quite often a mis-click because of the bad interface) is punished harshly. The missing save / load feature makes this even worse. Not recommendet.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Badly ported game. Having to double-click on UI elements, GUI and text in general is way too large for a desktop game. Developer could atleast have made SOME effort in releasing the tablet version for PC, but no. The wave of crappy mobile ports on Steam needs to end. The misspells, poor dialogue etc. I can overlook. The gameplay itself is fine, enjoyable, but the obvious porting makes it a pain to play. Adapt UI for a desktop PC, zoom the game out a bit, remove (or shrink) "Share" buttons.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well worth the asking price, Good turn based combat. No micro payments in game. Loads of unlocks and upgrading. Different difficulty lvls and more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very obvious tablet/mobile game, that really does not transition well to PC. Huge UI elements and text had me checking my resolution multiple times, and poor design choices mean that instead of a port which takes into account the multiple differences between PC and mobile it disregards this entirely - having to click on everything instead of being able to hover the mouse to just check movement range becomes tiresome quickly. As a mobile game I would recommend it as it is actually somewhat…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Antisquad is a turn based tactical shooter strategy game along the lines of X-Com: Enemy Unknown. There is a lot of style and personality to the game with its characters. There is a bit of skipable dialog before and after each mission. A lot of the fun and challenge comes from the combat. It is a game of chess, 3 troops of your choosing vs a small army. Your troops are just as frail as the enemies. You need to be smarter than their numbers. Enemies become alert when they spot your troops or see…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game frustrates me to no end, because it starts off great. Act One is easy, but makes great use of the mechanics and has some decent drive to it. Sadly, the translator and play testers for the game appears to have quit the second they saw Act Two and Act Three, because everything after the intro is a trainwreck. The levels are boring, the interface has no idea how to click the right spot on the map (and misclicks are harshly punished), Act Two's difficulty is just adding hitpoints to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent turn based strategy game, however it is somewhat degraded by the remnants of what no doubt was a micro-transaction system in the mobile version. As a result you need to replay some of the first missions several times and grind for coins just so you could upgrade your characters to even have a chance in some of the later levels on normal difficulty. Apart from the coins grind, the menus and options are very basic, with little to no graphics options. A missed opportunity by the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mobile games have no place on anything other than a mobile device. The presentation is nice but the controls are horrible, probably because they were taken from a mobile game setup instead of adapting it properly for a non-mobile experience, the music is horrible and very repetitive and the tutorial isn't very good. This game would probably be ok if you have absolutely nothing else to play but otherwise, why waste your time playing this wen you could play the far superior X-Com Enemuy Unknown.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grinding the same missions isn't very fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a bad port from tablets, with a poor adapted system to PC. Graphics? Nice. Game? too simple and bored I paid 3€ and it was too much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice as it is to see an addition to the sparse squad-based TBS genre, this is not a good game, at least on PC. It's a barebones mobile port, with a gameplay model clearly built around microtransactions. With those removed, all that is left is a heck of a lot of grinding with clunky mouse-based controls. It is also littered with broken Engrish throughout. The core gameplay is fairly decent, but it is overshadowed by numerous irritations.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried to like this game. I really did. I consider myself somewhat competent when it comes to turn-based tactical games, especially RPGs, but I find myself struggling at even the lowest difficulty setting. One false move of one of your squad members can mean their death, even with full health and defense. Apparently this is a port of a mobile game and I imagine there would be microtransations to upgrade your squad members, but since there is none of that here, all you can really do to upgrade…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you liked XCom you will like this. The gameplay is very simple to learn and the tutorial is well done. There are numerous characters to use and you can switch between any three in-between every mission. There are lots of upgrades as well and thank god they aren't pay to win upgrades. You earn in-game coins and spend them on upgrades. I really enjoy the graphics for this type of game as well. Not too realistic but not too cartoony either. If you are a fan of turn-based strategy games then…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just a badly ported mess, you will constantly be fighting against the ui until you finally give up and end the misery. anyone comparing this to xcom, ja2 or any half decent strategy games should be shot. no joke. actually shot... for their own sake edit: worryingly high % of people find this game acceptable :S if you found this review unhelpful, try some civilization or jagged alliance 2 or even crusader kings. but be warned, these are "good" games and may blow your mind ;)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personal Rating: 2 of 10 I was pretty hyped when this game was launched and made it a priority to play it but when I did, I was thoroughly disappointed. The game has great potential with nice graphic style, unique character with different skills and play style, weapons and items but killed off due to bad port system. This was initially a mobile game with a Free to Play model. As you can already imagine, you have to grind or pay to quickly get access to premium weapons and characters. That…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tons of potential, characters seem like fun. But that is it. I really tried over and over to play this game, but there is no reason. All your guys are pretty much 2 hit kills, most of the characters are useless. The two scouts get killed almost instantly and since enemies almost always counterattack, they always get merced right away. The two snipers are immobile as well as the heavy guys. The two usefull characters, the main guy and the french sapper, are both boring to begin with, and it just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IN A WORD: MAYBE IN A NUTSHELL: WHAT TO EXPECT: Mobile port. Mercenary themed. Fun turn-based tactical combat. Node-based maps. 8x characters to upgrade. Lots of weapon unlocks. Lots of gear unlocks. Customisable loadouts. Comedic inspired villains. Expensive unlocks and upgrades. Everything requires copious amount of coins. Coin collecting is very, very grindy. Lack of missions means repetitive play. Pretty visuals. Partially frustrating iOS style GUI. Lots of grindy achievements. Includes:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried to like Antisquad. I really tried. On the positive side, the music and art style reminds me a tiny bit of the Evil Genius aesthetic. Aside from that, however, everything else about the game has been a huge let down. Antisquad is extraordinarily tedious to play. The interface and controls are clunky. It feels like no effort was put into adapting the controls to something PC gamers would be comfortable with. Every action requires far too much clicking and fussing, and every moment spent…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mechanically speaking, Antisquad is a solid budget turn-based strategy combat game. Unfortunately being an iOS port the developers inexplicably left in the microtransanctional grind despite the fact you can't acquire in-game currency with cash. After a few missions the difficulty curves ramps up requiring you to grind the prior levels for gold to spend on gear and upgrades. It's understandable to have this on a phone game but it's utterly moronic to carry it over to the PC version where your…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Liking this one a lot so far. The price point is kinda scary, I immediately expected micro transactions and upcomming dlc spam when I saw it. However, the devs already said in the forum that neither will happen. No buying coins and no paid dlc. So the pricepoint actually makes the game a steal and it is way deeper than I expected from a "phone game". Combat is fun with lots of strategies, graphics are pretty good and more than enough for this type of game. I even enjoy the "progression grind"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game! love the art style, some nice squad/weapon/outfit customization and upgrades, game's just all around fun and relatively easy to pick up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A strategy/tactics game with nice graphics, decent story, and somewhat stereotypical characters and situations representing various countries. If you're not willing to grind out old maps for gold, then this game isn't for you because replaying maps for gold is pretty much mandatory to make later enemies easier. If you're not good at tactics games or don't like taking things slowly, this game isn't for you because there are enemies that can easily kill your characters if you aren't prepared…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a graphically nice tablet game ported directly to PC with no changes whatsoever. While the mechanics are pretty decent for working with a touchscreen, its really mediocre when you have a full kb+m. If you absolutely love turn based tactics games, it'd be a good tablet/phone game to play on the go, but its clunky interface is a blatent reminder of this steam port being a shameless cash grab.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Antisquad Antifun BEWARE! Mobile port with cancerous mobile mechanics. You will need to purchase coins to upgrade each member on your team if you plan on actually completing the game. Earning coins in Antisquad is like pulling hen's teeth so the hope is that as the difficulty ramps up in the second half of the campaign and upgrading becomes an absolute necessity, the player will get so frustrated with the incredibly measly way the game hands out upgrade coins that they will resort to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING ON PURPOSE, NOT FUN, DON'T BUY Seems fun at first, but soon you get heavily armored enemies with bazillion health that can walk half way across the map in a single turn (example: enemy has 160 health, you have 50, enemy deals 120 damage, you deal 50, enemy can move 8 cells per turn, you can move 3, enemy has 2 armor so your first two attacks deal no damage, you get none). Once you fail a mission once or twice, you've lost your healthpacks and money, which makes it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lot's of potential but the fact that its a game made for milking your wallet with microtransactions which has had the micros removed but havnt been rebalanced makes the game nigh on unplayable come the first boss which requires you to grind for hours to be able to beat. Big ol NOPE.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. Steam doesn't have nearly enough SRPGs to sate my appetites. However, I did not manage to get through this. After having finished the first three campaigns (out of four) and having tried the first mission of the fourth I am simply done. I could stomach the poorly written dialogue, the generic upgrade system that screams "this used to be a cash shop on mobile" and even the underlying racist tones (ALL enemies you encounter appear to be ethnic, and this is even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure why I bought this one - don't like it. *edit* Felt like I had to add to this... I only played a bit but I really don't like the game at all - I saw the cheap price, bought it then instantly wished I hadn't. It may be great for some people but it is not at all the kind of "strategy" game I enjoy. No "cover" to speak of but it does have a sort of overwatch system. Sight lines are way too short, weapon ranges are unrealistic, smoke bomb makes you immune to being shot instead of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SIGH, another sad Mobile/Tablet port of wasted potential. Steam is full of these things now. Same for console ports. Being a port in and of itself isn't the problem, it's that many of these companies cash grab @ PC gamers with very little work or effort. This game was a miro-transacion mobile and it shows. With the MTs removed it is a massive grind fest to progress. The controls are of course half done, with very noticable "you had to tap here, slide there, or finger this" all over the place.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics are nice. And list of pros is complete. The music gets tedious (it's pretty cool for the first few minutes but...), the mechanics are mediocre (No high grounds, no cover, just stand and shoot and run away), the AI is... well there's no AI really. And after a few levels, I'm already bored. I could keep going on about the dialogs that have to be read at the beginning of each level (Really, bubble dialogs! No voice overs!), or the really annoying 'Share' button (Seriously, that's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a turn based action game in which you control a team through various missions achieving various goals. The graphics are very nice and the music (mission impossible-like-ish) and sound effects are great too. The controls are simple and easy to understand. The game-play is turn based action with each character having Action Points available they can use for movement or special skill and attacks. The game uses the term contracts which contains several missions. Each contract is a story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slightly interesting game. It is a good turn based game. You have a selection of small squad with different skills and stats. Graphic is nice. The battle is simple but can be challenging, except if you're using the melee-hiding combo (the last time I played dunno if there's any update), it's invincible except at bosses. The downside is: the game is (very) repetitive. You can change the difficulty to get a harder challenge, but the map is just too few. You still got the achivements to keep…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is a direct copy/paste from mobile to PC with nothing changed including the horrible mobile UI that just doesn't work on PC & "tap here" messages, etc. But more importantly all of the P2W microtransaction mechanics and currencies are also copy/pasted over, and that's a huge problem because on the Steam version there are no microtransactions you pay IRL money for so the system in and of itself doesn't work and makes no sense and in turn just ruins the entire game. It's already a garbage game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad little TBS game for the price. The coin grinding gets old doing the same missions over and over adnauseum but the game is very simple to learn. This game plays more like the Elven legacy series style of Turn Based combat more-so than XCOM Enemy Unknown though. The skirmish DLC soon to come will certainly improve upon this title but to anyone looking for a no-brainer TBS who doesn't mind grinding for coins to upgrade your characters ... this game isn't bad for the price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great example of a bad adaption of a tablet game. The controls are horrible, the interface is too big and not resizable. But the biggest problem is the heay learing curve. The game gets very hard quickly, to the point where you are supposed to buy boosts and gold from the shop with cash. Since PC version doesn't have this cash shop, the only other option is to grind, and the most of you may know the grinds of such android/iOS f2p titles. And yes, this is acutally supposed to be like that,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →outch. I want to like this and I would really like to be able to recommend it, but this game takes all the promise of the setting and the really intriguing look and instantly covers it below a painfully bad user experience. Just suffering through the tutorial felt wrong on so many levels, one forced tap, uh, click at a time. Don´t get me wrong, I think the opportunity to make turn based tactics game for both PC and tablets is a wonderful development for the whole community, but if it is done…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a tablet/mobile game. And I hate when they try to sell me such a game as a Computer game. They made a game for one plataform and now whan to gain more money from it. Stay away from this, you can find way better tactical strategy games, made for computer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interface isn't resizable. It's designed for touch. It's clunky with mouse and keyboard and I spent most of my time fighting with the interface rather than enemies. There's also a huge amount of interface lag. I play on a 144hz monitor and this game feels like I'm playing in a layer of glue. Scrolling is slow. Menus and options are terrible. The interface "select" or "affirmative" sound effect makes me want to punch someone in the face. It's that awful "bubble pop" sound effect that you hear…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This turn based strategy game is a lot of fun to play. Stages are fun and easy to get into. The many characters to fill your squad and level up making this game have lots of replay value. If you liked Xcom Enemy Unknown you will like this. And best of all, just look how cheap this is. People it's a steal at that price. http://youtu.be/7SdZBgt3u9I
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice graphics, but the gameplay is made for Tablets. Doesn't work very well on PC.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2 Stars - Conceptually fine, but lacking overall depth and heavy grinding expectation. A tactical tunr based Xcom wannabe , this can provide some reasonable play time. However to continue through levels, significant grinding is required, and there isnt sufficient replayabiltiy to really get this off the ground. Pros Turn based tactics, different team members have different styles Cons Lacks depth Grinding orientated
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's design towards mobile is unbearable on the computer. No graphics options, zoomed too far in and can't zoom out, UI is gigantic, everything is controlled with just the left mouse button. Had they spent any time making the computer version feel like a computer game, this might have been a good game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Antisquad is a tactical turn based strategy game. The gameplay is ok, but the controls of the game are very bad and really annoying to work with. The whole mercenaries vs thugs setting is very appealing for me either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nah, pretty bad. Buy XCOM or XCOM2 instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tremendously sloppy port of a mobile game that I got in some bundle a while ago. I have absolutely no patience for this because the controls are basically ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ broken (certain buttons on the interface just don't work because they're waiting for a literal finger tap instead of a mouse click). On top of that, the absolute first thing you see when the game starts is a screen showing you that you don't have any of the DLC installed and maybe you should think about buying some of the DLC because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game, but takes forever to upgrade anything. This is a microtransaction game without microtransactions, so of course the only way to progress is to play the same levels over and over again. I have too many games to get through before I can even think about doing that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love turn-based tactical squad combat, but I can't get into this game. It's painfully apparent that it's a mobile port. The tutorial is annoying, constantly popping up cartoony chat bubbles telling you how to do the most basic things. It's also a click-fest (or tap-fest, rather). Click click click click...it just wore me out and bored me to death before I could even get out of the tutorial. I saw enough to know what kind of game it is, though. Definitely not for me. I like my turn-based…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very simplistic game, too simplistic and gets boring after about 1 hr of play Its a phone port and it shows
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT BUY This is a mobile grind game and failed to impliment the simplest of things for the PC port, most notibly the lack of telling you what is bound to what keys. This is not a game anyone should buy. *Edit: In update 1.9 they decided to give you an option menu that lets you see the key inputs. My opinion still stands, the game is a cheap mobile port.* I will say that the game was fun for the first few hours. When I was forced to grind out for hours to have my team capable of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would be fun on a tablet but clunky interface and facebook style currency is a buzz kill. Other wise it seemed enjoyable but I would suggest another turn based strategy game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Antisquad is a turn based tactical game (think Fallout 1, X-Com) with a cartoony mercenary theme. While the potential for such a game is quite high, the interface was clearly designed for tablets and is quite painful to use, to the point of being too distracting. This is a shame because the graphics aren't completely horrible for a tablet port. The game is riddled with microtransactions (the first thing you see when launching the game is a store page to buy DLC), furthering revealing this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Generic turn-based combat with a cartoon style and somewhat limited gameplay. Loads of upgrades available for your team, but being able to afford them is another thing altogether. As with other reviews, this is where the problem lies. Already three hours in and I'm seeing the need to go back to previous missions to grind and get dosh in. It's a problem that should have been sorted years ago, but for some reason wasn't and the game just isn't involving enough for me to *want* to go back and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-Pay and win -Lots of grinding -Need lots of time to progress and you must play same levels over and over Because all of that this game is not my type and I dont have a time to spend this game. I bought this game with a bundle and its came free to me. To play this you must like turn based strategy games and you dont have any good game to spend time except this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am not recommending this one. Pros: - nice cartony graphics - looks good at first hour and promises nice and smooth gameplay - music is nice - this strange armor points system (1 armor point takes all of the damage from one attack) gives something to think about when planning moves and attacks Cons: - controls are laggy and not precise, the pointer is BIG, it's hard to point to one dot where my characters need to move. Misclicks can happen - camerawork is poor - turns take a really long…
