unlabelledView post →Baby Face (1933) is a pre code film about how fanboys of Friedrich Nietzsche will inevitably ruin your life espousing the worldview they believe Nietzsche had.
unlabelledView post →And one more of Barbara checking her makeup in the slammer for Ladies They Talk About (1933). She would follow up the film with a star making turn in the equally hardboiled Baby Face (1933).
unlabelledView post →Remembering Barbara Stanwyck, who #dotd in 1990 at the age of 82. I love her in everything I've ever seen her in. Some of my many favorites are Baby Face, Double Indemnity, Night Nurse, and the underrated Internes Can't Take Money. Can you recommend a Stanwyck movie that doesn't get enough love?
unlabelledView post →Turning tricks in her father's speakeasy since she was 14, Barbara Stanwyck leaves the slums for the big big city and finds she can get far more value for her body in Baby Face (1933) She sleeps her way to the top floor at a bank and leaves a path of destruction in her wake. Great movie. #PreCode
unlabelledView post →Another dramatic take of Barbara for Baby Face (1933), a film one online writer called “the ‘Gone with the Wind’ of pre-Code.”
unlabelledView post →Dead End (1937). Bogart stars as the murderous gangster Baby Face Martin coming home to a slum on the East River. Here the Dead End Kids hang out (their first of many film appearances). They take over the movie. This is great poverty porn.
unlabelledView post →Ginger Rogers — as “Baby Face” — and Eddie Quillan in a still from The Tip-Off (1931). Trivia: the film was Ginger’s first Hollywood production and marked her debut for RKO.
unlabelledView post →Tonight's movie: Baby Face, a blackly hilarious 1933 "romance" starring Barbara Stanwyck as a Nietzsche-reading grifter (no, really) who sleeps her way to the top of a bank, only to give it all up for love in a thoroughly unconvincing ending. It's on HBO Max.
unlabelledView post →i been reminded of the one and only "baby" on the first movie... i will need so much more on this second one, serious work here, no laughing, CALL THAT MAN BABY FACE TO FACE

unlabelledView post →A lot of these are great movies & some of the best work by Barbara Stanwyck, one of the all-time great screen actors. If you're in Chicago, don't miss the double feature of the quintessential pre-code film Night Nurse & my favorite pre-code, Baby Face.

unlabelledView post →Another take of Barbara by Longworth in publicity for Baby Face (1933). The now-iconic pre-Code film about a woman who uses sex as power to advance her career came from an original story written by Warner exec Darryl Zanuck (under the pseudonym Mark Canfield).
unlabelledView post →More of Barbara in costume for Baby Face (1933). The film was said to be instrumental in the enforcement of the Hays Code. "Blue and nothing else," wrote a critic for Variety. "Anything hotter than this for public showing would call for an asbestos audience blanket."
unlabelledView post →It was wild but unsurprising to learn that one of the elements of the film Baby Face (1933) that scandalized people, leading to the implementation of the hays code, was the fact the main character paid her maid Chico enough money to buy fancy furs during the depression.

unlabelledView post →I usually only do one outdoor movie each weekend, but since I'm on vacation, I couldn't resist Baby Face on the deck tonight.
unlabelledView post →Baby Face Nelson. Did you even watch the movie?
unlabelledView post →#FilmSky #MovieSky a year’s worth of movies I love Jul-4, 185/365 Baby Face (1933) Probably my favourite pre-code. In any case, Barbara Stanwyck can make any film be a candidate for this relatively short list.
unlabelledView post →Harris appeared in the Warner Bros. Film Baby Face, opposite acclaimed actress Barbara Stanwyck. Harris shined in the role, and showed up that same year in RKO's Professional Sweetheart. Despite her character being pivotal to the plot, Harris again went uncredited. youtu.be/8A-8TXb70_c?...
unlabelledView post →Baby Face (1933) is prime for a remake. Female gangster type who gets ahead despite ruthless capitalist patriarchy by sleeping her way to the top. Showed it in Film History class last week, students always love it.

Fun Fact: An instrumental version of this tune was used in the 1933 Barbara Stanwyck film of the same name! youtu.be/NoBkX51le4I?...
unlabelledView post →BABY FACE is the movie this glorious GIF is from, it's a fave of mine, and if you've never seen it do yourself a favor & watch it. Especially if you're not familiar with what Pre-Code films are like--it's an eye-opener. (Also, Stanwyck's wardrobe is MAGNIFICENT.)
unlabelledView post →Man, there's a lot more cold-blooded murder, sex and insanity going on here than I would've expected from a film entitled "Baby Face"
unlabelledView post →#MultiviewsOfMadness #filmsky Saw Baby Face (1933) on @Tubi. @JennniferWest & others had mentioned this movie & I'd never seen it. I love it when that happens & leads me to watch something I might not have seen otherwise. Barbara Stanwyck stars & it's a bravura performance!
unlabelledView post →Mini review: Baby Face (1933), a surprisingly empathetic film in which Barbara Stanwyck sleeps her way to the top during the depths of the Depression boxd.it/5gw2pP
unlabelledView post →Well that was fantastic! Quite a polished story line and a real feast for Barbara Stanwyk fans! No wonder it’s so highly rated. When a film is REALLY exceptional, I’d be happy to immediately watch it all over again from start to finish, and “Baby Face” is one of the few films I can say this about 📽️

unlabelledView post →He was impressed with her 1933 performance in the scandalous film Baby Face, which I’ve seen. She is a modern actor in that film, ahead of her time, and head and shoulders above all the other performers.
unlabelledView post →25-year-old John Wayne with Barbara Stanwyck in "Baby Face," 1933. He wasn't a big star then either. Definitely a pre-code movie.....she sleeps her way to the top.
unlabelledView post →No Context Movie Trailers. Baby Face (1933) Dir. Alfred E. Green. Starring Barbara Stanwyck, Theresa Harris, George Brent, Donald Cook, and a very young (& hot!) John Wayne! Worth the ticket price alone just to fall in love with Stanwyck’s amorous gaze.😍 youtu.be/t9ISuXjeSBA?...

unlabelledView post →I enjoyed the film more when Humphrey Bogard was in it (as local mobster "Baby Face" Martin) and the film leant more strongly into the crime genre. But that is just one thread in what is really a mural piece about neighbourhood life with a range of different characters living cheek by jowl. 6/6

unlabelledView post →Agreed. Public Enemies is one Michael Mann film that simply doesn’t work. Bryan Burrough’s non-fiction book is superb, and unlike the movie, thoroughly contrapuntal, cutting back and forth between Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd, Machine Gun Kelly, Baby Face Nelson, Bonnie & Clyde, Barker / Karpis Gang.
unlabelledView post →I love TMWWT, but the best performance in a Coen Bros. movie is Peter Gallagher as Vic Tenetta in The Hudsucker Proxy, followed by the "That's Baby Face Nelson" lady in O Brother and John Turturro in Miller's Crossing. The opinion of others may vary.
unlabelledView post →This movie is epic, in my opinion. It's dark and gritty and Stanwyck's performance is outstanding. " Baby Face " should be on everyone's 'watch' list.
