Given the juiciest of roles to play--a one-time bad girl who has renounced her femininity and found peace more or less living as a man in the middle of nowhere--MacMahon puts all her soul and skill into the performance.
positive · AI labelView post →"I think you can always get people interested in the crucifixion of a woman." Timeless words from Aline MacMahon in her debut film, as secretary to newspaper editor, Edward G. Robinson. Five Star Final (1931). 🎬
neutral · AI labelView post →Delighted to run across an Aline MacMahon movie I've never seen before—in this case Side Streets, in which she runs a fur shop in San Francisco during the Depression, and oh boy does she have woes—and fascinated by the way her handbag is almost never not dangling from her wrist, even in her shop.
positive · AI labelView post →Watched FIVE STAR FINAL (1931). Edward G. Robinson is a news editor who revisits an old murder story to juice circulation. Good, sensitive script, esp about a woman who killed a man. EGR is powerful as usual. It's Aline MacMahon's first film and she's already great on camera. On Criterion Channel.
positive · AI labelView post →So many favorites in the same film! Warren Williams, Aline MacMahon, Joan Blondell and, of course, Ned Sparks! #GoldDiggersof1933 #TCMParty
neutral · AI labelView post →Ginger Rogers - 📽️ Gold Diggers of 1933 (Mervyn LeRoy, 1933) The film’s principal ladies are Aline MacMahon, Ruby Keeler, and the great Joan Blondell—and they rock. But Rogers is here briefly as the conceited Fay and you can feel her destined starpower. Sure enough, she becomes a star the next year.
neutral · AI labelView post →Give me Michael Keaton, or give me... ...I dunno, an Aline MacMahon movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →51th movie of the year is Mars Express. Not really my taste in animation style (too "realistic" and cold) but a neat movie, really good action sequences, lots of worldbuilding ideas, great acting (Aline Ruby the protagonist got really quick and snarky smiles I like a lot).
neutral · AI labelView post →My god, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Beulah Bondi so young. I saw a movie recently, the name escapes me, where Aline McMahon was a romantic(ish) lead rather than supporting, and it was nice to see. She could have handled that position had things broken differently.
positive · AI labelView post →#NowWatching GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933 (1933) ...what a great film...Warren William and Guy Kibbee being played by Aline MacMahon, Joan Blondell, and Ruby Keeler. All with Busby Berkeley's amazing choreography.
positive · AI labelView post →The Search (1948), was the first film shot in Germany following the conclusion of World War II. The Search is a U.S.A./Swiss film directed by Fred Zinnemann. It stars Montgomery Clift, Ivan Jandl, Jarmila Novotná and Aline MacMahon. www.britannica.com/topic/The-Se...
neutral · AI labelView post →I don't remember this movie. Does Aline get with Warren?! Please glow-in-the-dark Baby Jesus I got for Christmas one year let Aline get with Warren in this one. #TheMouthpiece #TCMParty
neutral · AI labelView post →But also I need this to just be an extended version of Aline, the most bewildering movie ever made
negative · AI labelView post →One sheet for the 1951 film ‘Kind Lady’ based upon Hugh Walpole’s short story ‘The Silver Mask’ from his collection ‘All Souls’ Night (1933). The short story was filmed twice, in 1935 with Aline MacMahon and Basil Rathbone, and in 1951 with Ethel Barrymore and Maurice Evans.
neutral · AI labelView post →Family movie night at the Aline household. Ria, not being from Earth, assumes all special effects in movies are real and actually happened, so even the most whimsical of movies have her on the edge of her seat. They're watching the 90's Jumanji movie :)
neutral · AI labelView post →#Edwards2026MovieThingChallenge 9/22 Movie character who is a businesswoman Olga (Aline MacMahon) in Heat Lightning (1934) A self-reliant woman owns and operates a gas station, garage and auto camp in the Arizona desert. #filmsky 📽️ #moviesky

neutral · AI labelView post →Remembering the brilliant Aline MacMahon, genius Oscar-nominated classic film, theater, and TV actress, on her 127th birthday, beloved for roles in films such as ONE WAY PASSAGE, GOLD DIGGERS OF 1933, AH, WILDERNESS!, DRAGON SEED, THE SEARCH, THE FLAME AND THE ARROW, and more. #TCMParty
neutral · AI labelView post →Two important follow-ups: - If you don't know Patrick Brammall, highly recommend watching Colin From Accounts before you go see Devil Wears Prada 2 - Rachel Bloom has a perfect Crazy Ex-Girlfriend-esque line in the movie (it was written by Aline Brosh Mckenna, so that tracks)
neutral · AI labelView post →I love all four of these actors and I think Aline Brosh McKenna is a very good writer but I think there's a very real possibility that this movie is going to be bad
neutral · AI labelView post →Jean, one notes, originated the role of May Daniels in Once in a Lifetime (the role played in the film by our beloved Aline MacMahon). (Oh! She also played, on Broadway, the role that Aline eventually played in the movie of Heat Lightning!)
neutral · AI labelView post →I love that idea. Cagney was the A#1 short king of all time, and he sought out tall antagonists, so he would absolutely rock a willowy dame like Aline MacMahon as his partner in dance and verbal sparring. Add some crackling 30s dialogue and I would watch that film on repeat forever. #TCMParty
positive · AI labelView post →In an attempt to protect myself from the heat I am wearing a floaty white muslin robe (also purchased at Target in the early 2000s) over my dress. I'm going for "Edwardian duster" or possibly "Aline MacMahon in lost James Whale movie about a *woman* mad scientist" but I may just look silly.
neutral · AI labelView post →movie is Aline (2020) btw. the first 20 minutes or so have to be seen to be believed, but after that it's unwatchably dull.
negative · AI labelView post →(Well, here's a fun one I just dove or dived down: Joan Miller played May Daniels, the role Aline MacMahon plays in the 1932 film, in a very early 1937 UK telecast of Hart and Kaufman's Once in a Lifetime.)
neutral · AI labelView post →iT'S WHY i KEEP SAYING AFTER Saipan, we need films about ephemeral Irish tat. Twink the movie. The Fatima hijacking - the movie. A film about Eurovision stuff (I know Aline features 'the Dublin Song Contest' with a Canadian actor playing the Plank's voice)
neutral · AI labelView post →Enjoyed reading While the Patient Slept, a 1930s murder mystery by Mignon Eberhart. Then I discovered there's a movie! Starring Aline MacMahon and Guy Kibbee (as Detective O'Leary, who is supposed to be handsome...) and Lyle Talbot.
positive · AI labelView post →Aline MacMahon, Ann Dvorak and Preston Foster clash in HEAT LIGHTNING (1934) today at my Another Old Movie Blog - anotheroldmovieblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/heat...
neutral · AI labelView post →oh, and when you mention the enormous fur collar as a wealth signifier, i immediately thought of the fur coats in 1934's Side Streets, which i saw last night. they're all the same cut, but cost/glamour depends on the fur. It was a useful educational film 😄 (Aline McMahon is very good in it.)
positive · AI labelView post →Interesting! Hopefully she didn’t resent Aline MacMahon for getting the film roles as Talullah reputedly did Bette.
neutral · AI labelView post →I have seen the original film and Arise. Stand Aline Complex I've just started.

unlabelledView post →Aline MacMahon in HEAT LIGHTNING! Acting miles beyond everyone else in the movie. Turns out she was in the first Method class in America, directly taught by Stanislavski. Makes me want to hunt down her other stuff.

unlabelledView post →I’m not mad about it, but is there a reason we never made an Aline MacMahon Batman film? I’m sure Glenda Farrell would’ve been chuffed to play the sidekick
unlabelledView post →LOVE AGAIN is a better Céline Dion movie that (unofficial biopic) ALINE was. There I said it. Both films are absolutely cheeseball. But at least the former has her participation - and she’s legit amazing in it, delivering the goods in each and every one of her scenes.
