Not really Is the game complicated? not really Is the game fun? Yes Is the game worth its askin price? Yes If I like survival games should I buy this? Definitely yes If I like laid back games should I buy this? Definitely yes Look, overall the game has great mechanics, a great overall theme and every little thing in this game helps every other little thing in this game to giving…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ashwalkers is nothing but a seedling of an idea that is struggling to grow in the fields of ash that surround it. I'm not in the business of slamming indie games. In my mind, smaller projects take bigger swings, and the ones that try to do interesting things sometimes end up failing, and that's okay. But *Ashwalkers* is a true disappointment, failing to deliver on its main focus - a compelling narrative filled with moral choices. Given the pedigree of Bonin and his new studio, I can see a lot…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is this game worth the price tag? Yes. I encourage you to try it for an hour just to see what you think. You can always get a refund if it's not your thing and you get a good idea of the gameplay itself within the first hour if not 30 minutes. Overall my experience has been good, fun but also mixed with boring. The decisions and scenarios you come upon are interesting and make the game fun. I love the encounters so far and the diverse amount of options that are given to you. However, there is…

Check the link and watch some game footage for yourself and decide if this game is worth your time: https://youtu.be/tZr7CZNpOe8 Ashwalkers is a simplified survival game, using a bitter-sweet white ash filter on everything to show the new wasted land and the depressing voyage to find a new home. This is the first game created by Nameless XIII entering the world of Steam with a unique game. Gameplay / Story…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The design is beautiful. The athmosphere reminds me of frostpunk and this war of mine. Gameplay however is meager. You left click to slowely move forward and sometimes you find resources - so you left click to collect them. There are exactly three types - wood, medicine and food. No subcategories. Then there are encounters when you are to choose between two to four options. That's it. This isn't even worth the discounted price, I returned it after half an hour.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just endless walking with few decisions. Can barely be called a game. I quit out of sheer boredom.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, but it feels very shallow. The theme and story have great potential, but after a little over an hour of gameplay (and I guess I already got one of the 32 endings?) nothing is really explored in terms of deeper meaning or character building. In essence, I suppose I would compare this to an old Choose Your Own Adventure book. They are fun when you are a kid because you get to make decisions and change the story. But there's no relation to the character, no…

Add intriguing story and despite limited gameplay mechanic, you will enjoy it a lot. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, there is choice. Lots and lots of choice. As a group of pioneers looking for sanctuary in the Dome of Domes, you must make decisions that will dictate which of the 30+ endings the game has. The story that develops from these choices will determine your enjoyment for the game. From my standpoint, the story can be rather gripping, but everything else is rather forgettable. The desolate land you travel is bleek and beautiful, but encountering the creatures of the land is rather…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the game I didn't know I needed until I found it. -Amazing world-building: the way you slowly learn more and more about the situation you're in is just *chef's kiss* -Outstanding ambience: the sound design and music really drive home the atmosphere -Easy to grasp resource management: the way this is designed makes intrinsic sense, and feels easy to grasp while still keeping that sense of anxiety as your supplies go up and down -Interesting story choices: the paths diverge a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For those looking for a game akin to the choose your own adventure books of old, Ashwalkers is phenomenal. Decisions require careful thought be put into them, and the game rewards reading into the choices and texts. Some of the choices endgame that determine the endings felt a bit arbitrary, but after having at least gone down the three main endings (that each have at least 12 permutations) twice I can say I had a fun time for the price of the game. That game while short does its best to make…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this , but it feels very shallow I wouldn't really call this a game. It's really slow paced, empty, unpolished and the UI makes the experience even more jarring that it had to be. Just endless walking with few decisions!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What I liked: - atmospheric setting and music - minimalistic art style What I disliked: - gameplay: it's repetative and fairly easy, some new features along the way would have been nice - it seem irrelevant which dialog option you choose, the story always continues with hardly any rewards or backlashes - too little happens, gameplay- and story-wise (you'll get bored pretty fast) - characters are shallow: although they can talk to each other at the campfire, you learn nothing about them

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a good game. I enjoyed This War of Mine, Mr Prepper, Frostpunk, Endzone, but this is shallow game. Everything there happens in "text" situations are not ilustrated properly. Werry poor work this game needs so much time. Choices doesnt feel that they carry any weight. Chatting between squad members is generic and dull. There are no mechanics, just verry basic. Dont buy this. Story is not also good. Rather play Durkest Dungeon ;)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't really call this a game. It's really slow paced, empty, unpolished and the UI makes the experience even more jarring that it had to be. Characters are really bland, story is just plain bad and there are handful of meaningless interactions. It's a shame that refunding wasn't an option, cause this title was sitting on my library for two weeks or so, before I tried it out. I remember when I saw the trailer when the game was still in development and actually got exited to try this game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →choice matter scripted survival game point and click walking simulator story telling game basically all action in this game about choice and consequences, no free roam like the usual survival game (like telltales The Walking Dead series) not so much but it's a ok decent game, decent story telltales TWD much better then this (even the mechanics is same)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No patience for pointing and clicking to walk forward through narrow 3d environments in a Dead In Bermuda/Help Will Come Tomorrow type survival game. I'm out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Right off the bat, a very enjoyable and intuitive combination of linear exploration, choice based story telling, and light survival/resource management. Has some nice lore and good writing, but the visuals leave much to be desired, with lots of draw distance issues. But overall excellent first impressions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game consists of 3d Environment 4 Characters, some additional assets and text based decisions. No combat or event animations, short, not so many people motivated to play it through more than once (if you look at reviewers time on record and in game spent).I don't regret it, and you shourldn't as well if you buy it in Discount. Feelst like one sessions of DnD with not so much focus on characters..4/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's dark and covered in ash. Make choices and suffer the consequences. Try to keep your people alive. I like it a lot and at this price, you should definitely check it out. https://youtu.be/KBYq2_hU_pU
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Updated for Steam Nominations 2021 As mostly first person shooters player, i sometimes enjoy switching to less intense indie games. Ashwalkers would be one of those. For me this game became liked a moment i saw it on store. Mostly because of character design and story setting, which is surprisingly similar to one i've wrote a couple of years ago. So far this is the closest thing to what could be called "dream game". As the gameplay is not challenging, it requires player to calculate their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chill game for a war crime enthusiast
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Barely competent but it was bit enjoyable. Can't recommend though. The backgrounds were really cool but the interaction quite annoying. I did like the exploration management. Just about completed it, seen all it has to offer, which isn’t much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Poorly optimized & unconvincing plot :(
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very atmospheric casual survival game, simple resource management, decision-focused, kind of hardcore torwards the end, controls and gui are very simple. One playthrough about 2-3 hours. In the beginning i got this war of mine vibes and in the end it felt more like frostpunk. Very good game, can highly recommend for a casual evening.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the gameplay loop is just not compelling enough to keep me, the low effort visuals and predictable narraive just cries of biased unpolish and lack of creative writing
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a narrative adventure. It reminds me of those "choose your own adventure books" that I read when I was younger. Its about choice and living with those choices. If you like narrative adventure and are okay with reading a lot, you will enjoy this game. if you think a lot about survival, humanity, existentialism and when it means to be alive, you will really like it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ashwalkers is a narrative-driven survival adventure developed by Nameless XIII and published by Dear Villagers and 24 Entertainment, set in a bleak post-apocalyptic world where volcanic ash has choked the skies and reshaped civilization into scattered remnants. Rather than focusing on action-heavy mechanics or combat systems, the game centers on decision-making, resource management, and the emotional strain of survival. It presents a grim journey across a hostile wasteland, asking players not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice little Oregon Trail-esque game. For better performance use (without the " symbols) "-force-d3d12 -force-clamped -screen-width 2560 -screen-height 1440 -window-mode borderless -screen-quality fantastic".
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not exactly terrible, but it's basically one of those choose your own adventure books with fairly shallow writing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A slow-paced and atmospheric choose-your-own-adventure with some minor strategy involved. Gameplay is simple and fairly easy. Graphics and sound are great. No bugs or glitches that I noticed. Runs my laptop a little hot, but that's about it. Potentially my laptop's fault anyway. Recommended for casual players and anyone who like a good story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you were wondering what the scouts in Frostpunk were up too.. play this. Got on sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hmm really good first impressions. The graphics look very cool and I like to make all those decisions. The game reminds me a lot of Dead in Vinland. Looking forward to play some more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A survival journey through a harsh world without rules or judgement. Only your choices matter in the face of moral dilemmas. Manage your party, food and equipment to find your way through a non-linear narrative survival sim with more than 30 possible endings.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thumbs up! Very unusual game for post-apocalypsis genre. What I liked, that every step really matters. Played through the game once, now going to finish it different way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first two hours of play through felt sluggish, lotta clunky clicking. https://youtu.be/MVwvBZc1XrQ We (demoduo) are a pass, but want to revisit the game after it has more time in the oven. Good concepts, interesting lore, but still under cooked for now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lovely game. Beautiful art. Nice music. Atmosphere has that nice sense of post-apocalypse dread and this extends to gameplay. Managing resources is a very delicate balance. You will run out of food, or camping supplies, or medicine. You will have to choose between force marching your people so they don't starve, or let them rest through the night on empty stomachs. Decision points with "no right answer" are frequent. Attack a large creature in your path, bribe it with food, or take a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ASHWALKERS Survival Game Puts Players in a Constant Bind A play report on ASHWALKERS - A SURVIVAL JOURNEY shows a survival game where every decision carries weight. An attempt to scare a wolf failed, leading to injury. The game forces players to balance risk and resource scarcity.
unlabelledView post →Game #56 of 2026 Ashwalkers Conceptually, I like it. The resource management was fine and a challenge in my ending. I can't bring myself to do more endings after sitting through two hours of just walking animations with occasional choices every few minutes though. Good ideas, subpar execution.
unlabelledView post →Very slow paced and kind of boring. The world is interesting but it is never explored enough and it just feels empty when you reach the end. It's also not a good game to replay because it's too easy and branching paths change so little.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting for a few minutes and then I wasn't sure. It was something unexpected when I had hope. I would have rather watched a video of someone playing it for a few minutes kept my time. Curiosity always brings wisdom.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A surprisingly complete experience with a fascinating universe. I found myself trying different combinations of things in order to read new bits of text, though there were some problems with the resource balance that meant not everything was fully explored (either in terms of me exploring it or by the developers perfecting the content).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its an okay game, a walking sim with story sprinkled throughout.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice worldbuilding, unique aesthetic, and interesting moral choices make this one worth a play. Unfortunately, the slow walking speed and fast decay of the characters' needs mean that moving between landmarks is involves a lot of boring walking and tedious micromanagement, hampering replayability. I'd love to do more runs to see the many alternate endings and decision paths, but probably won't due to this issue. The setting and storyline reminded me of Solstice, and the camp management…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the idea and the story, but the gameplay marjory sucks. 95% of time you just sit and wait for your characters to finish the animation of walking from one pile of sticks to another. It's really boring, especially that the environment is very bland and the music is meh. It would be much better if you could speed up the time (at least 3 times faster) or if it was just text base or just an icon moving on a map. The 3D animation only makes it worse.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty empty, really nothing much to do. Story is quite plain just one squad go on journey to find a new shelter for 200k people. There are obstacles on the way, some might die if you stop and rest too much but back to main menu always save the day.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda cool, the 34 different endings are very related to eachother so it's not that great as it'll make you go around again to get the single different update.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It all plays out a little too randomly for my taste. I like to feel a little more in control.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do not recommend the game in the current state. I like the idea behind as this is a mix of Horizon zero dawn and frostpunk but the game is too short while at the same time it drags monumentally. During your first palythrough your characters can't run so you will be falling asleep in front of your PC trying to reach the next action point. What I liked though is the different paths and endings. You can have I think 40+ different endings but once you played the game 2-3 times you'll be bored…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ashwalkers is a relaxing yet thrilling story. In terms of game play there isn't much, you have to manage your resources and make a few choices but there isn't much else. the real pull of the game comes from its storytelling. The game manages to tell a compelling story without any voice acting, its also one of the few games out there where it feels like all of your choices matter. If story is what connects you to games this is definitely worth picking up. (Side note: The soundtrack is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Full review is here: https://www.janneke.photos/review_ashwalkers I wasn't sure whether or not to recommend this game. If you want a survival game, there are many better survival games out there. If you want a choices matter game, know that your choices don't matter here, and if anything, the game actively discourages the player from making choices based on morality. I recommended it, though, because I had fun. I got engrossed in it, and if it brings someone else joy, that would make me happy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is interesting. I like the concept of it. The story is interesting along with the survival mechanics of scavenging, managing your resources, and managing character needs. The one thing I don't like is that most of the game seems to be just walking. The pace is a bit slow, so if you're looking for something with a lot of action this won't be something for you. I would have liked for a speed up feature to bypass most of the walking. Gameplay mainly consists of walking to your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You play Ashwalkers from a standard third-person view, moving the four-person team as a single unit, exploring and interacting with anything you stumble upon in this barren world. There is a lot of item collection and minor inventory management that ultimately turns into a crafting and survival game as you advance through the chapters. There is no spoken dialogue in Ashwalkers, which is normally a turn-off for something this heavy with narrative, but I found the overarching narrative as well…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first impressions video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJSAfjZ0wV4 Ashwalkers is another what many call "misery simulators", games where you're put in difficult situations and faced with difficult choices, many a time with no obvious good choice. It offers a crazy number of endings and needless to say, offers a lot of replay value and different choices to make. I generally enjoyed it but with some caveats. The story is basically that you're in a post-apocalypse, trying to find a new home…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm in between a recommendation or not for this, but I'll give it a conditional recommendation on the condition that Nameless has to do a better job on their next title. I have three main gripes for the game, but first the good. The music is great! It complements the atmosphere very well. Same with the minimalist and abstract art style. The art style and music give this game its unique feel. I wish I could say the same for the story or gameplay. The big map thing with its chapter summaries was…
