Boggles my mind how this got released. I played this for 13 minutes, and saw numerous issues that would have had me sending this back until they were fixed: Glitchy/sluggish menus, ugly textures, clunky controls, enemies take too many shots to kill, animations are wonky, and enemies glitch through walls making them almost invulnerable. If…

Good thing for Steam refunds, It's obvious that this was a very crappy game that Atari sank way too much money in and put the Alone in the Dark brand on it just so it would sell a few copies. Tank controls, crap visuals, bad models, horrible physics, and the sound distorts to the point that the game is completely inaudible. It has controller support in game but not in the game…

Now I've never written an actual review before but this is the game that made me have to do it. That's how bad it is. I recieved this a couple months ago, when they sent out closed BETA invites and was excited to see a new Alone in the Dark coming. I wasn't even aware that a new one was being produced so I became excited. So I redeemed the key and downloaded it and then opened it thinking I'd relive the…

unlabelledView post →It's like a Left for Dead without fun, good combat and shooting, art design, ballance and players. Don't buy it. It's a new game what is already dead. No lobby, no players. Single Player is horrible.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game. Just, this game. I have written few, if any reviews, but this one seems worth a special mention. It's laughable how bad this game is. Literally nothing about the game is even decent. I'd be mad, but I saw it coming. I don't even want my money back, it's just a terrible game. The animations, the character models, the combat, the actual gameplay. I cannot describe how bad this is. I felt nothing while playing it. Maybe this is the Old Gods' attempt to bring us all down a…

The earlier games, namely the initial trilogy, are completely bare bones by today's standards, but they're still considered some of the best survival horror experiences to date. Alone in the Dark: Illumination is the sixth release in the series, and it brings with it a new approach in terms of gameplay. Moving away from…

It is in the running for the worst game of 2015 very quickly, and it's made it clear with its horrible animation quality and abysmal enemy AI that Atari has bottomed out as a publisher at this point. The Alone in the Dark franchise, if you can even can call that a franchise anymore, is now buried with an…

Stand in light, lose massive frames, lag out, rinse repeat The original had a great story, great puzzles, if it aint broke dont fix it. These get worse and worse as time goes on. Even when it is free, and it will be at this rate of dropping prices for a game that just came out, pass it by, give the steam refund center a chance to breath :)

This is not an Alone in the Dark game, they just slapped it's name on top of cloned format. Everything about it rubbed me the wrong way. The gameplay mechanics, the unneeded chromatic aberration, the lack of of FOV options, boring objectives, even the title annoyed me. Be "Alone™" with 3 friends! No, bugger off. Uninstalled.

I pre-ordered this game, hoping for it to be a decent L4D clone with Alone in the Dark elements. I know that's not what most (if any) AitD fans wanted, and I can understand that. Got it for $5 on a steam sale and I'm happy I did. This is not a bad game. Not a good game, But certainly not bad, I've played several games that were far worse this year alone. At launch it may have been bad, but it seems after some patches in the years following its release, they fixed a lot of the criticisms. The atmosphere is pretty nice, Some spooky locations…

Soon i realized that this got nothing to do with any previous AITD games, first bc its Coop/MP oriented, even that only sp was available in beta, it was clearly developed with that in mind bc right after you start the game with assault rifle modified with flametower, you are flooded with monsters that keep…

Resident Evil itself is functionally an Alone In The Dark successor- that game sorta set the template for the entire genre, even if it's lesser remembered for a bunch of odd reasons. This is, functionally, a Resident Evil demake back to the style of Alone In The Dark.

unlabelledView post →Ok where to begin ... while a fan of the horror genre and i mean the lovecraftian kind i have been surprised by the storytelling into the game , no cutscenes at all , a text story line which leans more on the gothic / emo prose than actual lovecraftian storytelling at all . Yes really EMO since the character spends half a page describing her emotions. The old gods versus new gods principle is in the game which is minimal for a lovecraftian storyline but while the ambiance is there something is…

Alone In The Dark: Illumination suffers from one major design flaw that's caused it garner such hate from it's audience... the fact that it's called Alone In The Dark. Whilst I am a small fan of the AITD franchise, I am also open-minded when first playing a video game and play them without expectations or immediate judgement. Alone In The Dark this game…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is exactly the type of game I like, but I've never seen it done worse. This is like a combination of Resident Evil 4, Left 4 Dead, and Alan Wake, except terrible in every way. It's a Co-op shooter, but good luck finding anyone to play with. The controls are stiff and awkward, it all feels very dated. The guns feel just horrible. No recoil, no feedback or anything. There's also serious lack of guns. The enemy AI is just terrible, don't think I've actually played a game with worse AI.…

unlabelledView post →Single Player Review: This game has nothing in common with the AITD series and it’s no AAA title. No intro, no cut-scenes, more or less no noteworthy story (provided in text form only). It’s all about finding objects (mostly batteries…) and your way through the dark. Along the way you are fighting some monsters. The level design, the surroundings and the atmosphere of light and darkness is impressive. So if you are fine with that and your expectations aren't too high, that’s your game.

I had previously played the original 'Alone in the Dark' games way back in the 1980s and really enjoyed them as I was and still am a great fan of HP Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos. unlabelledView post →This Is really bad. I thought that Alone in the dark 2008 was bad but this makes that one look like a masterpiece . The controls are slugish and the missions seem to only invlole picking something up and taking it to a location and doing that several times. Mission 1 was pick up some wire mission 2 was pick up some batteries. thats as fas as I managed to get before I gave up on it. Very dissapointing .

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game. Not amazing, but solid enough. Definitely way more fun playing with friends than alone, although it's not bad alone, either. Some repetative gameplay, and some really wonky animations. I like the dynamic of each class; they're all very different from one another. My personal favourites are the Engineer and the Hunter. I'd give it a 7/10, probably. Play it with friends, and it'll be a fun time.
