My very first ever horror game was the original 1992 Alone in the Dark, and I have to say this... thinking about that experience genuinely still gives me chills down my spine. Skip ahead to 2024 and we got shown/teased a new Alone in the Dark. A reboot (or reimagining) of the original survival horror classic we all knew to love. I was waiting patiently for my new PC to arrive to finally play it. I finally did and I...…

Resident Evil itself is functionally an Alone In The Dark successor- that game sorta set the template for the entire genre, even if it's lesser remembered for a bunch of odd reasons. This is, functionally, a Resident Evil demake back to the style of Alone In The Dark.

The puzzles are top notch, the story is semi interesting once you get into it a bit. The combat does have abit of jank but nothing game breaking. The visuals/environment are also pleasing to the eye. It's a decent experience and any true fan of Resident Evil, The Evil Within, Dead Space, TLOU, Cronos, Alan Wake and Silent Hill will enjoy this game for one…

Some of the most popular tropes from the Cthulhu Mythos are referenced here (ironically not Cthulhu though). Nyarlahotep, check. Azathoth, check. Shub-Niggurath, check. The catacombs of Nephren-Ka, check. The main enemy creatures are otherworldly in the same vein. Mechanically, the game seems to be heavily inspired by recent Resident Evil games, specifically the recent RE2, RE3 or RE4 games. Which is…

A 5+/10 game that is somewhat buggy despite how simple and linear it is (you will occasionally float above ladders, get stuck because of weird object collisions if you take a wrong step while exploring, miss your…

Estimate 6 hours for first time normal difficulty playtrough. Repeat playtroughs likely faster as you skip that+no longer get stuck on puzzles. TL,DR I recommend it at 20 euros or below. Give it a 8.25 There is a very big differnce between normal and hard difficulty. Normal can easily ignore survival mechanics…

Is this a good game? yes Was it fun? yes Was combat good? most of the time Was the story scary? A bit Were the puzzle any good. They were ok Seem all good so why am I reluctant well because the game strongly implies you need to play it twice, IT's one of the 1st games in a long time that made me feel on my 1st playthrough ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I got to know what the other character is seeing and doing. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ALONE IN THE DARK Is a solid game that blends psychological horror with exploration and mystery, bringing a vibe that strongly resembles Silent Hill 2, both in its narrative pacing and in how the gameplay constantly keeps you on edge. The atmosphere is heavy, melancholic, and full of symbolism, creating that same mix of discomfort and curiosity found in the classics of the genre. The puzzles are a highlight: varied, clever, and well integrated into the environment without feeling…

unlabelledView post →I really tried to enjoy it, but the negatives far outweigh the positives here. Constant stuttering when entering a new area, clunky combat and the puzzles are an absolute joke. Atmosphere is good, the visuals are decent and the story is acceptable but none of these justify playing through this poorly optimized mess of a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are a fan of Resident Evil, and enjoy the works of H.P. Lovecraft, then this game is a no-brainer. A little janky in places, not very long, but has a lot of heart and passion put into it, and you can tell. Great voice acting, interesting lore and satisfying gameplay loop. Shame that we will most likely never see a sequal to this, since there is a lot of potential for future titles to expand and improve on what is already there. That being said, I wouldn't say that the game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really suprised how much I have enjoyed this one, bought as RE2/3/4 alike and going through a survival horror phase. Nice little pull of B movie cast with David Harbor and Jodie Comer. Really nice lovecraft plot which I have no idea how close it maps to the orginal game. Keeps the horror small and the puzzles mostly straightforward. Its design is very RE2 on the unlocking of the old mansion with keys and puzzles and hidden extras everywhere. Oh also like that is 1930s period piece gives it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has some potential, but it just does not get all the way there. The setting is interesting, the story is kinda interesting, the graphics can be nice to look at and the enviroments are fun to explore. However the gameplay that ties it all together is just not fit for purpose. The melee is janky, the gunplay is frustrating, there are a few occasions when the game throws several enemies at you at once but the gamplay systems just are not fit for it and the twist at the end is just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The remake of Alone in the Dark is a love letter to the grandfather of survival horror. It successfully revives the eerie, cosmic horror atmosphere of the 1992 original while modernizing the gameplay. Set in a gothic, southern noir version of Derceto Manor, the game focuses heavily on exploration, puzzle-solving, and a deeply unsettling psychological narrative rather than just non-stop action. 🟢 Pros Superb Atmosphere & Setting: Derceto Manor feels incredibly creepy, decaying, and…

unlabelledView post →Finish the game twice; there are many problems with the game. - Loading level (freezes every time opening a door) - Game doesn't run smoothly, constantly jumping between 40-60 fps - Animation is very stiff and not accurate (everything is clipping) - There is not much difference between playing as Edward or Emily; they don’t complete the story, it is more like selecting a hero. - The melee system is terrible, and your weapon will break after 4-5 hits! - Gun is clunky, not accurate, and…

However, I experienced heavy framerate drops even while running it on an RTX 5080, as well as some bugs, such as getting stuck in the environment, which was quite frustrating. The optimization could clearly be better. The game lets you start the story with one of the two main protagonists. I only played through the game as Emily, but I might do another run…

I did have my part of fun it can be good, but it is bad in so many ways. Animation are stiff and break often, gunplay is strange, but works. Still I didn't like combat you could cut it out and gain more points focusing more on story and puzzles. Main actor sound bad stiff even, compared to others. It feels like Alan Wake 2 from Temu.
