60 of 122 · most liked firstUnfortunately this review will be quite brief, due to an unexpected issue I ran into. Alien Spidy is, in and of itself, a fairly solid physics puzzler. You swing from anchor point to anchor point, collecting little bits of energy, hopefully in a row, in an attempt to boost your score by reaching the end of the level. At 3 worlds and anywhere from 16 to 24 or so levels per, it doesn't seem exceptionally long, but the game is quite difficult, though not unreasonably so. The web swinging could use…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really tried to like this game but I just can’t. I usually like almost every game that game reviewers bashed but this one is impossible to love. The biggest problem is the difficulty. I tried to play with a game pad and it’s almost impossible to get good scores. With a keyboard and mouse it’s easier but, nevertheless, the game is so damn hard. Games are supposed to be fun, to help you escape from stress and reality but with this one, you’ll get mad, frustrated and maybe with a headache! I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great looking, Simple story, and a welcome challenge of a game! Great if you can deal with a Challenge If you can’t deal with a challenge and you want an easy game, DO NOT get this game! Extra notes: I honestly am worried for the mass majority of gamers that are not open minded, and are suddenly lost if they cannot figure out a different controls mechanic, if they are not spoon-fed every single game mechanic. Gone are the days of actual challenges, and as soon as a challenge comes, people…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alien Spidy is a cute little guy. His butt's shiny and he's got his cute little poses through the game. Don't let that fool you though. He's still a freaking spider and as such, he can be a bit of an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The idea is simple enough; get through the levels using your jumps and webs, slinging yourself from tree's and such, all while collecting little glowing orbs. There's obstacles to avoid, such as rolling rocks, thorns, mushrooms and such. Like I said, puzzle platformer 101. All in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to recommend this game, it looks really nice, and I like platform games, but it is annoying as hell. Slightest mistake and you blow all your points. It is very tricky indeed, not fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only- ONLY About Highscores. And has bad controls. Levels look good but are too easy if you dont try to get the best highscore. I wish I hadnt bought this crappy game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a nice concept marred by awful execution and unrealistic expectations of the player. The way to score points requires you to be absolutely perfect most of the time if you want to get more than even 1 star, much less 5. The web-physics are also a little buggy, every time the web connect the spidy jitters around weirdly and loses momentum for no reason. This is a game simply not worth trying to finish, and that such a small percentage of players has even cleared the first world…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun stuff, great for a casual type game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I purchased this game thinking it would be fun. I was right... for roughly ten minutes. While the tutorial is excellent in helping you understand the basics of the game, the programmers obviously decided to make this thing WAY too difficult WAY too soon out of the starting gate. Granted, I'm playing on a keyboard, and i'm not used to playing platformer games like this on a keyboard. So OBVIOUSLY, i'm a bit out of my depth here. However, My big hang-up on this game is, without a dout, THE…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey guys, I found this really fun platformer game with cute spider, and I don't understand why only small number of players (according to the achievement page, it's only 6%) players finished the first world... oh. So I thought I found something great and fun to play, but it was my mistake. Sure, levels on which you need to use your web all the time are annoying, but also kinda challenging. But when you need to be either very good from the beginning, or replay some levels XX times because you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The cutest waste of time I've ever seen. However, it should be noted that he's not actually a spider, alien or otherwise. He only has 6 legs. Therefore, he's an insect - a very important distinction in alien entomology. But he's still very lovable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I came into Alien Spidy expecting a sort a Metroid type game. I was slightly disappointed by the singular level format, but i could deal with it. I had trouble with the web mechanic because every time I decide to let go, i seem to lose my momentum. The biggest sin this game commits is having to go back to get a certain amount of stars to move on to later levels. To get a decent amount of stars, you need to be almost perfect. If you wanted a game like this, than you would do much better to get…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely not bad platformer with cute little spidy as main character. Visuals maybe not groundbreaking but introduce some variety. Level design not half bad with plenty of different power ups to catch, they act more like a boosters for limited time. Goal is to get enough points to get 5 stars rating on all levels, there's some challenge involved. Different obstacles like water, acid, spikes, nasty creatures. Shoot web and swing on it like a pro. Despite plenty of bad reviews gameplay is good,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alien Spidy looks like a fun afternoon platformer that soon turns into a nightmare due to frustrating controls and impossible scores. The graphics and art style remind me of flash games or some XBLA games from the 2000s. Not my favorite type of art style, but it's still ok. The loop of the game consists in the player collecting energy orbs. The level score is calculated by these orbs plus any penalties you have. You get penalized if you take too long or if you die in a level. Alien Spidy is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game for 23 minutes and it was after the first 10 that I realised this game was not for me. I've never been a big fan of games focused largely on getting high scores. This game is that type of game. It has levels that are divided into tiny segments that have you automatically respawn if you die, making each individual obstacle practically 'checkpointed' which while making the challenges more tolerable because you're not really set back at all by respawning, it kind of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this game has some of the worst controls I've ever seen. I can't even get the web swinging to work half the time in the tutorial level, and on the rare occasions that I can, I have no idea what I'm doing differently.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's buggy and you can softlock yourself in some levels aaaaaaa
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way too floaty controls for a twitch platformer. Controllers don't help due web shooting is done simply by tilting the right analogue without any kind of crosshair help. Doesn't let you remap the controls to shoulder buttons so you need to keep switching between right stick (web shoot) and a face button (jump). Note that the game might work much better with mouse and keyboard. I just personally don't even care to try because I think platformers should work perfeclty with a controller.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is beautiful game with nice graphics, a great art style and very catchy music. Unfortunately it suffers from bad input lag which kind of zaps the fun out of platforming. The controls feel kind of laggy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Average platformer. You play as a spider and you have to navigate through certain objectives. I wouldnt personally reccomend it but if you can get it from $.01 to a dollar i'd say go for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holy web-slinging pixel orgy, Batman! Alien Spidy is basically what would happen if Spider-Man got high on radioactive energy drinks, snorted a line of quantum goo, and then decided, “You know what? I’m gonna make humans work for my amusement.” And somehow, it f*ing works**. You swing from anchor point to anchor point, collecting energy bits like a hyperactive raccoon on Red Bull, trying to get them all in a row for that sweet score boost. It’s basically a twisted physics puzzle that slaps…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great concept but the swinging feels so, so bad. Aiming is tough both controller and kb+m. will check to see if the devs made anything better
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a while there, I really thought I was going to like Alien Spidy. The aesthetic doesn't do anything for me, and the controls are a bit floaty. But the platforming is still quite fun, with its fluid blend of leaping and swinging and falling. The levels are short enough that it's easy to say, "One more, one more." Then I got to the end of the first world (almost), and the game informed me that I needed more stars to continue. Stars being the otherwise pointless ranking you accrue by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I purchased this game from Humble Bundle's Conquer COVID-19 Bundle. Luckily, I received this game at little to no cost at all. STORY An alien spider lands on another planet in pursuit of his female companion he appears to be infatuated with. He must push through the foreign planet and avoid an absurd amount of obstacles by swinging through the environment. GAMEPLAY The gameplay involves moving the spider through the levels via jumping, floating, and web-shooting. Now, when you hear…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute garbage platformer. The controls are awful, the physics are floaty and imprecise and there is noticeable input lag, when the buttons respond at all. Avoid under all circumstances.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The score system is awful. Instead of just grading you for how fast you're going or if you did a cool thing or not, it expects you to utterly follow the score bubbles 100% of the time. In a physics-based platformer. I'd let this slide, had the game not required a certain amount of score to leave the first world. It didn't really feel like the level design was getting exceedingly fun yet either. On top of that, there's a bunch of imperfections that contribute to the frustration. The visuals…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An older but still beautiful indie game. This 3 start score based platformed is surprisingly tough for its neon and lovable exterior. Be prepared to work to get those 3 star runs. The Plus Side: +Difficult but not punishing +Enjoyable neon filled visuals +Great level design +Interesting enemy and obstacle design +Very tight gamepad controls +Large number of levels +Skill based improvement +Clean collision on platforming elements
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very nice and fairly difficult platformer. I love platformers with grappling line/swinging gimmicks and that is basically what this is all about. The jumping is a little bit floaty but you will be thankful for that because it will give you time to aim your landing better. You have to be incredibly precise with both your jumpinng and swinging to succeed. The game is score-attack based. It is totally possible to clear stages but take so many times and miss so many point icons that you are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cute game but built for consoles with very awkward PC controls.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite its gorgeous visuals and adorable art style, stubborn controls and an atrocious web shooting mechanic make Alien Spidy the most frustrating game of 2014, and not in a good way.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lame sidescroller where you play a spider with floaty jumps and use your web as a grappling hook
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →is a great game but is hard as hell!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a fun game. it is filled with challenges and fun. the colors are great bright and it can be set for the new players so they can learn all the keys and timeings. so if you like side scrollers with a spin grab up on this one for sure!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My Personal Game Score: 5 / 10 + Good simple game design + Good game mechanics - Hard to play the game due to bad controls - Bugs - a bad one - Broken controls
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alien Spidy pros: //fast game with modern day graphics with easy controls that moves from location A to B to C and so on cons: //a lot of difficult platforming //controls are somewhat difficult for a lot of obstacles //may need to set AlienSpidyexe => properties => compatibility mode => Windows 7 //good game Personal Suggested Purchase Price: $0.49 Or Less During Sale
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played to the 2nd level. Control's are clunky as hell and wouldn't work 80% of the time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a Friday and last period has just ended. The bell rings and you're out before Mr. Johnson can finish writing down next week's homework. You're out and that's all that matters. You catch up your sixth grade best buddy, Evan, as the two of you are making your way to his home. It's a sleepover and his mom prepared cookies. It's a warm summer afternoon and all is well. You settle down in his room and make space for your perfect night. Evan holds his third party xbox controller eagerly and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I shouldn’t have bought this. First of all, it feels like a free to play mobile game. And it probably is. The game itself isn’t bad, but it’s not worth 10€. The worst part about this game is the mouse cursor. I don’t know how stupid someone can be, but the developers decided to use the colour blue for the mouse cursor. As most of the background is blue, you can barely see the cursor. It sometimes got almost invisible (clear blue sky). Horrible decision. Furthermore, the webbing mechanic is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How do I put this... I won a giveaway and got this game. I played for 6 minutes and it already froze. Input Lag was present all of the way. These Graphics don't deserve 10 bucks, and I think that the mechanics are totally flawed. I'm sorry but it's just horrid to play. DO NOT RECOMMEND!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PSA - This game's engine is *not* compatible with 144hz. I was very frustrated with it until I switched to 60hz. Alien Spidy is a Platformer with Puzzle elements ala Locoroco, SpeedRunners, Super Meatboy, n+, etc. It has a fun, kid-friendly aesthetic with a funky-feel-good soundtrack and a cute little alien spider as the player character. Don't be fooled by the charming exterior though what lurks beneath is an INFURIATINGLY DIFFICULT GAME. (Seriously, just in the last 40 minutes I've died…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The input lag on this game is a joke. It sometimes takes up to a whole second to shoot a web which makes it unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played many platformers in my day and this is one of the worst. Jump timing is awful, web shooting for swinging makes no sense and never fires off when you went, and in particular on the 4th training level does not even work and is required to progress. stupid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is impossible to play with a gamepad. The accuracy and momentum required to hit the succession of jumps is simply too hard. I play a lot of twin stick shooters and usually favor twin stick control schemes, but it just does not work for this game. Especially since the jump button is assigned to A, while aiming requires the right stick. If the devs had instead let right bumper be jump, right stick aim and give a sight line, then have right trigger to fire it would be leagues better.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I couldn't get the "web shooting" to work at all. It works every now and again, but even then I hold the button and my spider teleports back to the start of the swing's arc. To be fair, that was when it worked at all. Most the time I could start a level, and click, my spider ducks like it's going to fire a web, but nothing happens. Exercise in frustration. I don't usually say not to get a game (because I can usually see what the devs are going for), but this is broken. If I see an update that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a real nice platformer. Great graphics and gameplay. Its hard, but fun. I'd give it a 8 out of 10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a load of fun this was, I got it pretty cheap a while ago and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fun I had with it, if you can get it on sale, go ahead with this game! The DLC isn't forced upon you either, with no mention of it in game. Very Good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alien Spidy looks like a hopeful indie game. It has wonderful artwork and runs flawlessly on even my laptop which struggles with most things. However, The difficulty curve to this game is absolutely ridiculous. You can master everything you need, and be doing levels fine. I found myself that in a matter of literally a couple of levels the game had turned into a rage game with ridiculous difficulty which is next to impossible to complete. You can try at your own risk, Im a fairly skilled…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Alien Spidy is a slick looking platformer with a nice web swinging concept. However the game execution and controls are ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. Add on top a level design that is way too difficult and you get a game that wants you throw your controller against the wall.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game cured my depression, I feel like a new person after only playing for 30 min. I greatly recommend this game for everyone, doesn't matter what age or gender just try it out!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a console ported 2D retro action/puzzle platformer where you control a black-foreground-coloured-background alien spider with a web swing mechanic to solve various platformer challenges needed to progress between levels. With proper UI scaling and 4K support, this game exceeds 99% of the platformers infesting Steam. Sadly the control schema doesn't keep up, controls are floaty and unpleasant to handle. There's reports of bugs that erase your entire game progress. That last 5% of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the core of the game it is a fun physics puzzle game. The game advertises as a fast paced puzzle game, but it only really seems to be fast paced because of how often you have to respawn due to an issue with your web not firing, or sometimes firing twice and causing your first web to disconnect. Additionally in an attempt to add more feature so the web you can move up or down the line you shoot, however you can only do that after first firing the web then pressing up/down after the web is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is painful. First off, the sound and the music don't fit at all. It sounds like they took a sound pack from a totally different game and slapped it on this. That's only a minor issue, cause the game itself is just bad at the core. This has nothing to do with the difficulty, but where the difficulty comes from. The controls, especially the web-slinging, are just not well-defined, and makes simple things much harder than they should be. Not the best thing for a game that relies on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know most reviews with this little playtime are BS, but hear me out. I encountered the same game breaking bug 6 times before completing the third level. I would sling a web, it would lag behind and my character would snap backwards. Then, once my feet had touched the ground again, I'd be stuck in the charge animation for the web and wouldn't be able to shoot another one. The game also crashed 3 times in my short experience. Just a pretty bad experience in general, happy i got this as part of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lmao the webbing mechanic is glitched half of the time. I feel like there is also a latency somehow when playing this game. This is hands down, a game you want to recommend to someone you hate. Its overpriced, laggy, and old. Some of the positive reviews on here with < 1 hour played are exclaiming "loads of fun" the game is... LMAO they are even playing it!
