Ah yes, a strange & beautiful world filled with magical creatures. Sounds like the Pokémon Co. has FINALLY some competition. Sadly, this is the closest we’ll ever get to Pokemon Snap on PC. As a kid, I spent hours on Pokemon Snap and I was more than happy when I found Alekon on Steam a couple of months ago. I think it's really a hidden gem more people should know about considering how GOOD it is. If you like Pokemon Snap but want more freedom to roam around and take pictures without a care in…

Alekon is a beautiful 3D creature collector game in the vein of Pokémon Snap, in which the objective is to take photos of whimsical creatures in order to bring them to life in your collection, and then complete the various puzzles and quests that they offer. Alekon was released on the Steam store around the time when Pokémon Snap received its own sequel on Nintendo Switch, namely New Pokémon Snap and it looks like it manages to bring strong competition to Bandai Namco’s already popular games.…

TL;DR: Cute creature collector with a bit of funny dialogues, non-violent quests, many semi-optional timed minigames, and thinly veiled references to alcohol and drugs. First of all I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that the devs took the time to send me a personal message along with their review copy, explaining which other games and which features that I liked made them think I'd enjoy their game. It wasn't really my cup of tea after all, but I think a lot of people would like it…

I highly, highly recommend picking this game up if it even remotely sounds like your cup of tea. Wow. Alekon is such an incredible experience. It's clear to me that this has been a passion project the devs lovingly and painstakingly poured their hearts and souls into. TL;DR: Alekon is jam-packed with extremely refined content, very fun photography-based gameplay (with plenty of minigames to keep things fresh and varied), an amazing soundtrack, smart but not-too-difficult puzzles and quests,…

Photo collection + Puzzles + Mini games + Amazing soundtrack + Fun characters + Unexpected emotional resonance that is still sticking with me. Overall, super fun, I wish I could play it for the first time all over again. Review: I don't think I can properly explain why this game is amazing without spoiling anything. Super fun twist on the photography game formula with lots of fun characters and worlds to explore. I love that after doing the on-rails guided tours of the world you can then explore freely. The wide variety of mini games and fun story beats also help break up the pace and keep things interesting. The game sounds and looks amazing too! EDIT: Just finished the game and wanted to update that it really just gets better the deeper you go in. I thought I'd maybe grow tired after the first couple of…

Rating: ⭐⭐ ☆ ☆ ☆ / 5 I think this is a harsh thumbs down but I just don't think the game is good enough for me to recommend it. Let's start with the positives as it's fair to say this game still has a lot of good going for it, but has an awful lot of bad too. Alekon has a nice world created for it with a lot of information about the characters, all with their own personalities. You will discover a lot of that through the photography part of the game, taking photos of the animals doing…

Traveling through Alekon is like traveling through a dream. It's a beautiful fantasy land with wonderful Fictions and beautiful environments to explore. The characters are charming and the interactions they have with the player are ever lasting. For an indie, this game is very clean and very tight. The animations are well done for every fiction, the dialogue is well written, and it's PACKED with content! Every fiction either gives you a mini-game, some cosmetic change, a decoration, a…

Overall, I enjoyed a lot of elements of Alekon. One thing I think they nailed and should be given credit for is the monster designs. They sit nicely in a place where they'd never be mistaken for Pokemon, yet hold their own charm. The charm was decreased by their speaking with the players, however. I was a much bigger fan of nearly every fiction before I talked to them and they began their cartoonish shenanigans. However, nearly every gameplay element falls short and actively hinders the core…

I've been hyped for this game for a few months since playing the demo, and honestly it took every expectation I had of it and shattered it. I intended to only play it for a little bit after covering E3 to just see what more they added to the game, and I ended up doing a one-shot playthrough of the entire game and didn't want to look away from it. The characters are lovable and just an overall joy to be around, the story keeps you engaged and has a far deeper meaning that just finding out why…

When I was told about this game, I will admit that I was hesitant at first, since Pokemon Snap was never my jam and this game looked a lot like an indie Pokemon Snap type game. I added it to my wishlist and when I saw it went live today I thought to myself, "hey, may as well give it a shot". I haven't played the new Pokemon Snap but I'm fully convinced this is better than it. There's no other way - this takes the photography genre and transforms it into something entirely fresh. Not only do you photograph creatures, you befriend them! And do minigames to help them! And learn about their deepest desires! Oh yeah, and there's free roam once you've met a certain requirement, which is a HUGE help towards completion after a few rounds of on rails. The story isn't hugely woven into the…

I'll keep this short and sweet. If you're interested in this, there's a strong chance it isn't your first photography game, so I'll just say that the photography element is solid. So what sets Alekon apart (besides its obvious charm, of course)? Two things: Firstly, once you've played every path in a level, you get to free roam that level. No pressure, no rush, just walk around, solve puzzles, and take photos to your heart's content. Secondly, the sense of progression. Every time you take a…

Alekon is a beautiful game centered about taking pictures of the various Fictions that live in the world. Each Fiction has its own personality and preferences, and each one has its own minigame! Some of these minigames are quite easy, while others can be a little bit frustrating if you don't quite manage to grasp the mechanics (like me not being able to play pong, but I'm sure that's just my lack of skill and not the game's fault ;) ) It's a nice casual game and the completionists out there…

Alekon is a ripoff of an old Nintendo game called Pokemon Snap! Where you take photos of pokemon. This is very similar thematically, you wander around, take photos of pokemon, and play minigames with them to get them to different poses so you can collect all the photos you need. indie Pokemon Snap clone Less emphasis on getting better pictures, but taking pictures of the fictions in all their different poses. Unlock multiple routes, and then eventually gain the ability to free walk the areas. Taking pictures of fictions lets them join your overworld, and then you can do multiple... mini games? Activities? Side quests for them? They're not always captivating, but there's a ton of variety. I beat the game in 6-7 hours. Would recommend.

If you like the concept of Pokemon Snap, give this game a try. It basically took the idea of Snap and iterated on it. It is clearly inspired by Snap, but is not a 1 for 1 copy and does some of it's own stuff, but is still a game about just taking pictures of cute creatures, called Fictions, in varying poses and being graded on them.

Alekon takes the foundation of something like Pokemon Snap and neatly adds on its own identity, ideas, and a few layers of convenience(such as not being restricted to New Pokemon Snap's obnoxious system of only letting you submit one photo of each Pokemon despite needing 4 different poses) onto it to create a short but ultimately very sweet photography game. My initial assumption was "Pokemon Snap but with minigames," but that isn't quite accurate. Alekon doesn't have the focus on tight mechanics that Snap does -- none of the repetition of levels to learn movement patterns, or getting ever so slightly better shots to maximize scores, or finding new interactions over time. However, it makes up for that with pure charm and positivity. Alekon is unabashedly cheerful and is a real delight to experience. The emphasis on "creative" activities is a…
