What people are saying

A charming, family-friendly shooter that divides players on gameplay depth.

Many players praise Air Hares for its beautiful pixel art, nostalgic feel, and unique restorative mechanics. One reviewer notes the game is "inspired by classic arcade shooters, but it's not about senseless destruction; it's about restoring life." The co-op mode and family-friendly design are also frequently highlighted. [5][7][4]

However, a few critics find the gameplay repetitive and lacking in story. One player warns, "Do not buy this game, it feels like a scam. There is one enemy in the game. One!" Another mentions that the pacifist farming elements are "tough to aim and split player attention a bit too much." [16][17]

Praised art style · family-friendly co-op · restorative mechanics

What can I say about Air Hares that I don't already know? But tonight I played it with fresh eyes and my four year old son after six years of development. And it's EXACTLY what I set out to create: a retro arcade game made for millennial parents and their kids....based on the coolest 80/90's cartoon show from my dreams. We're SO thrilled to share this game and story with the whole world. These four stages are just the beginning of a much grander adventure so strap in, grab your families, and…

I love retro style games, and this one was a lot of fun. The style and characters feel unique, and the game does things a little differently, which I really liked. Playing with a controller made it even more enjoyable since it's something I was used to as a kid. I also thought it was cool that you can turn the “CRT” lines on or off, depending on whether you want a retro look or something more modern. Those Bullhogs are no joke! I definitely underestimated them in my first few rounds. After…

This is a really fun game and I love the graphics. I'm excited to play through story mode but also like that there's an arcade mode to try out different levels. Being able to play co-op is a big plus. My nephew loves it! Definitely worth the purchase.

Shoot-em-up top-down airplane games are some of the most classic gaming experiences in history. A simple formula that can be built upon in so many ways to produce a variety of challenges. Usually, this format is used to shoot bullets at armies of enemies whilst dodging a hell storm of bullets. Air Hares puts a swerve in the expected style by having you be a bunny in the skies equipped with seeds and water shots, charged with defending and replanting their vital crops for the cities below. It’s…

I'm a little biased here, but in the most honest way possible: I worked on some concept art for Air Hares early in its development, and seeing the finished game feels like watching a small, heartfelt idea take flight. It's inspired by classic arcade shooters, but it's not about senseless destruction; it's about restoring life. You fly toy airplanes as bunnies and other critters, seeding and watering carrot crops, and bringing color back to a land left barren by the deadly dust storm - all…

These are the kinds of games I really miss. You can feel the passion and care poured into every part of this project. The art style is gorgeous and nostalgic without ever feeling dated, and the pixel-art animation is seriously impressive. Animating large elements like planes, birds, and bosses in pixel art is no small feat, and it’s absolutely nailed here. The soundtrack is a fantastic bonus (especially for a small team), the game is extremely polished, and most importantly... it’s just a…

This game is a hare-raising adventure with no fluff and the hoptimal experience for pixel-loving arcade enthusiasts who are all-ears for a fresh take on the top-down bullet hell genre. The violence-averse approach makes it perfect for any younger bunnies in your burrow (including a great co-hop hoption). The soundtrack is thumper after thumper. It’s fun, it’s bun, get used to it. You are cleared for take-off… It’s Air Hares! I love it. 5 out of 5 carrots.

A joyful, grab-and-go throwback that captures the soul of classic gaming. Instantly familiar yet cleverly inventive, it blends cozy retro charm with smart strategy and genuine excitement. The fun, family-friendly story channels the adventurous spirit of Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers and the classic storytelling vibes of The Secret of NIMH, giving it warmth and personality. With a catchy, well-crafted soundtrack and charming comic-style presentation, this is old-school fun polished to near…

This is a game whose makers put so much love and heart into making it. The characters are so vivid and the art direction is solid. Thwapping the birds might be my favorite mechanic of the game, it's so satisfying. I'm not typically a bullet hell person but I love the concept of creating life (via carrots) instead of taking it!

Do not buy this game, it feels like a scam. There is one enemy in the game. One! A crow that flys at you, you mash parry to bop them, rinse repeat. For the entire game. Over. and over. and over. The 'Story" mode has no story that I could find. Literally nothing. No pictures, no text, no cut scenes. In fact, selecting story will let you play a level. Then at the end of the level you're presented with a Replay button and an exit button. How do you play the next level? Simple, select exit, pick…

Air Hares, developed by Wondoro LLC and published by indie.io, is an inventive twist on the classic shoot ’em up formula that shifts the focus from destruction to restoration. Instead of placing players in a purely offensive role, the game casts them as a pilot tasked with healing a damaged world after a catastrophic event known as the Black Blaze. This narrative framing immediately sets it apart from traditional arcade shooters, giving purpose to each mission beyond simply defeating enemies…

Had the chance to play this game and beat it in one sitting! There's a bit of a learning curve in getting used to the controls and mechanics, but I was glad I got to eventually beat the Story mode and see it through the end. Visually, the game is stunning with amazing artwork and the soundtrack is fantastic with some wonderful tracks in it. Overall, a definite must-buy!

This game reminds me of the CRT era, like Suikoden, with a great Star Wars rebel vibe in the storyline. It’s perfect to play with friends in co-op! The music is catchy and full of energy, making the gameplay even more addictive. Overall, it is gorgeous, crafted with love, and very fun to play. The artwork is well-crafted highly recommended!
