Bro. Bro. If you cannot be happy while you're getting some runs in, what the fuck. The game isn't fucking over. It's in the middle. We're scoring some runs. Sure we have a long way to go. *WE WERE A LONG WAY DOWN*. Buck up. Seriously what the fuck. Go read about propaganda & how it works for good.

In Brief: Pros + Unique path-building element + Requires you to use your brain + Decently smart AI Cons - Priced harshly for an Early Access title - Not much content currently - Very buggy Skip to the bottom for my final thoughts Breakdown: Gameplay If you think you've seen something like A Long Way Down before, you wouldn't be wrong. While not exactly an original idea nowadays (games like Hand of Fate, Darkest Dungeon and Slay the Spire), A Long Way Down manages to combine many staple RPG…

Introduction A Long Way Down is a new deck builder from new developers, Seenapsis Studio. The story is quite interesting, with you taking the role of Sam, a recently dead American waking in the dungeons of Limbo. Speaking with Sam via spirit phone is the priestess, Ma'bri, who is performing Sam's funeral rites as we play. She guides Sam in the use of some spirit cards stolen from the Dungeon Master, who apparently rules over Limbo. Or something. It's your job to guide Sam through the game's…

Great game, and fascinating concept. But.... I beat the game in 9 hours, and I wasn't at all trying to go fast. There's just not much content. What there is is great and beautiful, but... I saw this complain in an early access in January. Sadly, Ijust assumed that my its launch over 8 months later it would have more content. I would have settled for 20 hours. Nope.

Review by [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34633003-Gaming-Masterpieces/] Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. Is this game a masterpiece? No, it is still in Early Access, but it is fun to play already. Not sure why, but I enjoyed the game maybe more than I should. The card variety is a bit limited, but this made the gameplay relaxing and not too complicated. It is a card battler, all fights are resolved through turn-based card battles. Prepare you…

The genre of this game is right up my alley, so I was realy hoping to prove the negative reviews wrong. Sadly, its true. Its already half a year out of EA, and there are still pretty big bugs in there, for example items that go missing from your backpack in the first level. Thats just not accetable anymore after such a while. Gameplay wise, it is an okay game. It felt pretty slow, repetative and boring, but definately not bad. Just mediocre. Like the other reviews said: there are better games…

It's still a buggy mess. I bought it thinking they surely fixed everything now if it comes out of EA but no. For starters the UI bugs out if you try to swap equipment. Text overlays each other in cutscenes sometimes. And best of all: loading a new level can get you stuck without a new map appearing and the menu freezing up, basically forcing you to alt-f4. Even if everything worked perfectly the game still looks ugly. The card UI and layout somehow looks really bad, and mousover doesn't…

I played for 21 hours and probably will play even more. I finished the game in 7 hours and I was so disappointed that it is all for now... So I was messing around with different playstyles for next 14 hours of game play. I like the art I like the combat system I like the upgrade system I like the dungeon master trolling you. I hope this project will be finished and I will have more fun... I will probably finish the game without upgrades and maybe then I can leave it alone.

Extremely buggy. Crashes a lot. Can't get the cursor to work sometimes. I've played for 8 hours and had to quit in and out again three times now (I think). It looks like only 10% of players can even get past level 3. I've been stuck here for about four hours, trying over and over. How long is this game?

A game that sadly falls short of the standards set by its peers. Play any other deckbuilding rougelike out there, and you'll probably have a better time. The biggest issues: - A lot of mechanics and math, but minimal resulting strategy. The facts that you keep cards in hand and that your deck doesn't cycle, combined with a restrictive draw means you'll often just play all the cards available. - You'd think that meant the strategic focus was on the deckbuilding, but besides stat buffs and…

The game starts really well but turns into a slog that forces you to replay previous missions over and over again for upgrade currency, random equipment and consumables while constantly screwing you by random tile placements from dungeon master and incredible power level spike in the last chapter. I honestly didn't have fun after beating the second boss because of that, and two soft locks, which happened because I dared to click on tiles too fast, did not help that at all. I honestly have no…

As it sits A Long Way Down feels a long way from complete, the balance overall doesn't feel like it's quite there, and there are a number of bugs I've encountered in a relatively short span of time. The most prevalent being between level s of the Story Mode, I have had cutscenes that have cut off, Load screens that made me question whether my computer was at fault, and level transitions that have appeared offcenter, and unclickable. I have purchased this title and hope that it receives the…

Good concept hiding under mediocre implementation. Needed more thought put into ensuring particular systems are fun while maintain player agency so that games don’t feel like they are won or lost based on a RNG roll instead of skill (looking at you dungeon keeper playing a randomly selected tile from the player at end of turn). Also there appears to be lots of minor bugs which is not something you want to see outside of early access.

I'm enjoying it so far. While I can assume a lot of content has yet to be added, I'm enjoying how it shares unique mechanics from other great deck builders (Slay the Spire, Deck of Ashes, and Deep Space Derelicts) mixed in with the clever concept of allowing the player to modify the labyrinthine strategic map as the EVIL AI works to thwart your building of pathways to the map's objectives.

Playtime: 42 minutes Intro In ALWD you place terrain pieces to move between floating "islands". Along the way you collect things and battle enemies. Battles involve playing three of a few cards from your hand. Cards either deal damage, heal, inflict/remove curses or boost/reduce attack/defense. The Good ALWD is a weird one because it has solid production value for an indie game, but terrible gameplay. The art looks good, the effect are nice and various other parts (cards, interface, etc.)…

“A Long Way Down”. is a deck-building roguelike RPG card game in the same vein as “Slay the Spire”. Unlike “Slay the Spire” you begin the game with a pre-built deck that you build before your run changing if you happened to come across an armoury. rather than advancing through branching paths instead you build a map in front of you a mechanic not too dissimilar to Guild of Dungeoneering a decent game that we reviewed a few years ago. as you progress through the map you encounter enemies and…

I really want to like this game, it has a lot going for it, but it feels early access when even when it's fully out. Maybe it's because I'm playing it on mac, but the UI bugs out in various places and makes it hard to enjoy the game as much as I think I would if it were to work properly. One such example of UI bugging out is when equipping abilities (cards) - it says to click and drag to equip them, but when I drag the card doesn't move, and it makes the whole process a chore when it seems like…

As it sits right now, A Long Way Down is an incomplete game that is hampered by bugs - but this is an Early Access title so I can forgive this. That said, I can't say I was particularly all that interested in this game; nor was I particularly interested in the element of 'farming' that this game seems to encourage. The gimmick of this card rogue-like is that you are given an incomplete dungeon layout - a lot of tiles will be floating in, well, Limbo, and you will 'build' your path through the…

There is no better word to describe A Long Way Down other than lack luster. Gameplay is incredibly boring and repetitive, and its a shame too as the concept seemed like it would work on paper. The game tries to be way too complex and simple both at the same time. With combat being a loop of buff, debuff and attack until your enemies die with very little variety. Enemy designs are also very scarce. The overall puzzle aspect of the game seemed fresh at first but after awhile felt very gimicky.…

A Long Way Down, a game déjà vu with Hand of Fate, Darkest Dungeon, and Slay the Spire, merges RPG bits into a decent rogue-lite smoothie. Deck-building is the main deal—grab cards, build a killer hand. My deck stayed put; why fix what ain't broke? Upgrade the sword, go legendary, slay monsters. The twist? Dungeon Master messes with your cards, making it chess with a devious mummy. Companions? More like background noise. Rogue-lite? Death's an upgrade ticket, feels earned but cheap. Story's…

DO you dig stylistic visuals, Card based combat, and Slay the Spire aesthetics all around? That's what you get here in ALWD - only it has it's own charms and merits, of course. Building on the foundation of STS gaming, you are playing in a random dungeon with enemies that you fight in typical RPG style, turn based - but all your moves are cards. That's exactly what this feels like, a cheap Slay the Spire clone. This game isn't my cup of tea. The MC is a male, the card system in the workshop and building battle deck is utterly boring and unattractive. Cartoonish graphics and bland dialogues. Still it has its charms. Cartoonish graphics when you get used to it add fun to the game. The Card battle system is easy and intuitive. And the cast of side characters makes the game overall bearable. Not a bad game for one time playthrough or time killing.

Short, straightforward but very fun. The basics don't take long to explain. You navigate your way through a series of dungeons while facing monsters with a deck of 15 cards. These can be damage dealers, lie a thrust attack, buffs that increase your defense or grant healing over time, a combination of those two. like cards that deal damage and transfer that damage onto you as health points.
