He spends the entire movie worried about what everyone will think, only for his family and all his friends to be completely supportive.

unlabelledView post →Is it any surprise that Disney is shit nowadays? This is why for LGBTQIA+ stuff I heavily prefer indies or studios that don't care about what others think. Anyway, go watch Young Hearts. It's an amazingly nuanced movie about two gay boys just trying to figure it out.

unlabelledView post →Young Hearts (2025, dir Anthony Schatteman) It's rare for a queer-rural film to be great in my experience. Yet this one is. It handles an age-old small-town coming-out narrative with expert hands. Told through personal places and rural fringelands, + shows that kindness will always open others up.

A lot of representation in here, difficult subjects are touched on gently, the direction is *chef's kiss*, and no-one comes out of the film traumatised. It is not long before the two boys meet and the one begins to realize some stuff about himself and that he might not be so straight after all.
