Departures
Daigo, a cellist, is laid off from his orchestra and moves with his wife back to his small hometown where the living is cheaper. Thinking he’s applying for a job at a travel agency he finds he’s being interviewed for work with departures of a more permanent nature – as an undertaker’s assistant. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Friends, I saw another amazing Japanese film last night, older than "Perfect Days" but very much in the same genre. It's called "Departures" and its about a concert cellist who loses his job and learns about handling the dead. And to the 10 of you who are gasping, no, I hadn't heard of it. :)

unlabelledView post →Ok. Departures is a sweet and heartfelt movie. It really shows the honour and kindness of caring for the recently departed. It's a straight-forward story of a unique job and its importance in the community, no matter how little we want to think about it.

unlabelledView post →Nope. Departures, a Japanese film. Funny anecdote, the actress that plays the wife was also in the Luc Beson film Wasabi(which, I know he is awful, and the movie has some *very* problematic stuff, but I am a sucker for Jean Reno) youtu.be/3swP6tdmnJk?...

unlabelledView post →Departures is a magical movie full of funny and real humans reacting in real ways to one of the most difficult parts of life that we’ll ever have to deal with. Die Another Day may be the worst modern Bond movie, but I loved it! They go full bore into wacky Moore territory and I am here for it.
