Your ships are valuable not only because you have to retry if you fail a mission: your ships are gone forever, have you recruit new ones to replace them. You're not blasting enemies with bonkers-sized, infinite-ammo laser bolts. Your limitations are realistic, and your enemies' are too. Every hit you endure means fewer credits for you to upgrade with. The campaign is lengthy and brimming with style.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hadn't heard of this game until I saw a friends review on the front store page in Steam and was immediately intrigued by the angular shooting mechanic. That's one thing that has always bugged me with shoot 'em ups. Having to only go head-on with an enemy the traditional way forced very linear battles, either vertical or horizontal. The big question I had was, would it work? https://youtu.be/iUrQ-uYjjGY A resounding "Yes!" is the answer! Not only does Xenoraid accomplish this original…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank you to the developement team for generously supplying me with a review key. --- I fell deeply in love with Neon Chrome and to a lesser extent, Crimsonland. Just some really polished, addicting titles. The devs knew exactly what makes a great game. Xenoraid, isn't bad at all... It's just... Not great. It saddens me a bit to say that, because I had high hopes. Essentially, this is a schmup with a lite upgrade system. You progress through levels and collect money to buy upgrades or new…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game. The 'main' campaign is a bit short, but like other 10ton games the "main" game is really a prelude for the hard/harder modes that they intend for you to play. I quite like the 'tilt' mechanic on the ships, and the enemies aren't just brain-dead path followers but try to 'dogfight' you, which makes the game more interesting than normal SHMUPs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished campaign on normal. Haven't tried hard or survival or co-op yet. tl;dr: Game is effing amazing, for sure worth the $10 or less. Very competently done shooting, with a couple little details that really click with me. For instance, the enemies don't just fly by you in formation, they often break off and circle around and try to hit you a couple times before flying offscreen. It suggests dogfighting in a way that most other shooters don't at all. The upgrade system is well…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, tense and pretty shmup with some twists. I very much like the way enemy ships react to player actions rather than just moving in scripted formations. Most alien ships have guns with a fixed arc of fire, and they actively maneuver to line up shots on you or to avoid colliding with asteroids. They even speed up and try to evade offscreen when you have them at a disadvantage! For a 2D game where you're contstantly moving in a single direction, Xenoraid really feels like a cinematic space…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Campaign on hard is just an RNG slogfest. Get a bad combo? Restart. Accidentally juke left, only to have all the mobs spawn on the right where they can shoot you, but you can't shoot them? restart. Accidentally eat a missile while planning your next step? Restart. The concepts and ideas in this game are relatively fun, but I have a hard time recommending it for anyone but hardcore schmup players. The ships are cool and unique (though 3 are far overpowered compared to the others), the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Xenoraid is a very well made shmup. While the game is certainly not a bullet hell, the permanent death of starships can be a drain on money best used on upgrades. The enemies and bosses are interesting, with a variety of attacks, but in the late game, some larger enemies (the Destroyers) have somewhat cheap attacks that will almost always cause the end of one of your ships. The seven player ships themselves are also interesting, with a pair of attacks each and 3 upgrades, ranging from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hum... Not a good one. This is a vertical shooter. The graphics are OK. The music is OK too. The Story is nothing to write to home about. No bugs or crashes. Overall, it is barely entertaining. The game is unbalanced and the design is very poor. There's only one thing that the game wants you to do: evade things. The levels are too long and there's no way to fix or power up your ships. There are no advantages, but lots of disadvantages: guns overheat, you run out of ammo, lack of maneuvering…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Welllllllllll... I guess you didn't see that one coming.Well seems like that everytime you click a planet that's not related to the story your WHOLE progress just resets! and yes NO WARNING or ANYTHING. Another annoying fact, you can't even see what ships you can buy unless you sell one of them and then you lose your CREW that leveled up so hardly so. WTF is this bad design choices. Holy crap that's awful.4/10 Fix your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ UI design and information.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Random, tedious, and difficult in frustrating ways. The devs speak in the forums of their crafted design where they spent time weighing options and creating the best game they could. Too bad they couldn't be arsed to spend that time creating actual levels. Instead you get a total enemy count to deplete and some sort of enemy "heat meter" that spawns enemies from the remaining pool that match the desired threat level based on what is already on screen. Enemies are varied in design but bland in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All the trappings of the classic SHUMPs you love, with some novel new twists and updates to the genre! For those who prefer ot watch rather than read: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=772414678 Right off the bat, I must say that I'm not usually partial to shoot'em ups, but I was enticed by the leveling and upgrade system. I'm glad I gave it a go, even if I'm pretty bad at it! XD I like the implementation of both global upgrades, and unit-specific upgrades. I got a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Shmup that isn't a bullet hell. This is my dream. Crisp maneuvers, a solid variety of ships both to use and to fight against, a unique take on a genre, leads to a strong recommend. First off, I'm going to restate that this is a shoot-em-up that is NOT a bullet hell. That is so rare, it's like finding a mobile CCG without microtransactions. Xenoraid, instead, gives you full control of the field, allowing you to zoom forward, backwards, sideways, downways, upways, and any other ways you can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is excellent: there are real choices to make, there are tight gameplay systems, it is challenging, and it's just an overall strong evolution of vert-scrolling space shooters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little shoot'em up. I like the ability to swap ships during combat, which makes you impossible to hit for a second or two and allows you to dodge bullets - due to this you don't have to be absolutely precise in all your moves. Obviously, this makes a game a lot easier, so don't think that hardcore gamers would love it. But I am casual gamer so i do. Not much else to say, really. There is a lot of games like this and they are not very different.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is simply a lot of fun. Jump in if you like shoot'em ups. You will not be disappointed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not sure why this game has so few reviews, but it's a lot of fun. The mechanic of having an entire squadron of different ships to swap in and out of battle is a nice variation. As is the fact that when you move so does your crafts nose and bullet direction, rather than just sliding across the screen pointing straight up. Really enjoyed it and hope that a sequel gets made.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great shmup for those who aren't bullet hell pros. Good for a good couch co-op or a more strategic single-player experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While it isn't my favorite game from 10 Tons it is a challenging and competent shooter that gives you some challenges and tough choices to make at times while you progress. The action includes a mechanic where you'll get to switch between 4 ships with different primary and secondary weapons and most of what makes the game interesting is figuring out how best to use these ships and then how to survive when one or more of them gets heavily damaged so you won't lose them. If you like classic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to write this review while I had the time. The fact that I am writing a review says something. I am now a casual gamer, following years of no-lifting CSGO. I now live with my girlfriend who didn't really play video games. I love video games and wish I could play more. We both have full time jobs and little time for fun. We have played this wonderful game for approximately 40 hours. Xenoraid is amazing. Shoutout to the devs too - the fixes will make the game more approachable to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not much to say really, I like it. :D While at first glance it is pretty much just a regular scrolling shooter this game actually introduces something unique to the genre which in general is hard to do. You play as up to four fighters selecting between them as you would weapons in a normal scrolling shooter. Each ship having access to two weapons. What makes this unique is that 1. if a ship is destroyed you no longer have access to those weapons. 2. You actually have the feeling that you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Xenoraid is really fun! The ship switching + persistent damage is great. If you like this genre at all you should give it a shot there are several types of ships and it's a really well made game. I liked the local only co-op, it makes the game more difficult because you must share the ships hp. My full thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e0meDGqOYg
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice shooting game that requires old school skills that modern shooters don't require any more - You actually need to aim and lead your shots in this one. Nice presentation and a rewarding challenge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun shooting game. Solid control, and interesting mechanic juggling 3 different ships. Decent challenge but not overwhelming.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like the concept and the idea of this game. I do. Upgradable fleet, that you can customize in a fight against waves of aliens, oh boy! But there is one small problem that kills the whole experience for me - THE CONTROLS. They are just horrible. You can't play it with keyboard because you need the scrollwheel to change ships (rebinding keys won't help, I tried). You can't play it with mouse, as the navigation of the ship starts to feel like a hot nail in your stomach - you can feel it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Xenoraid: The First Space War is, for me, the spiritual successor of Galaga from the olden days of gaming. This game is simple to learn but hard to perfect and it really gives you that skill based alien invasion destroying feeling that it should. Anyone who is a fan of classic arcade shooters should buy this game in a heartbeat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In this game, you fend off an alien invasion, shooting enemy ships and asteroids. Ships come in three varieties: small, medium and big, and there are couple of options for every ship size. Large ships have very clever design, and pretty advanced AI; it's good to see them trying to hide their weak spots. You control 1 shil of your 4-ships fleet, and you can switch between any of them. You can also upgrade your ships, buy new and replace lost ones. This is, however, where the good part ends.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Before I start, I should warn that while I always liked shoot ‘em ups, I don’t play that many and am not familiar with the developments in the genre. Xenoraid: The First Space War is an unusual take on the vertical shoot-em-up genre, stepping away from the euroshmup subgenre and into something slower and more strategic, offering gameplay that feels very different from the likes of Tyrian or Jets ‘n’ Guns. Instead of controlling a single starship for the entire level (or game), you can switch…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not your typical shmup. You have 4 ships you can swap between at will, each with upgrades. There are also global upgrades you can purchase. Pretty cool feature. Battles are fun and most of the weapons have a good feel to them. The only thing I'm not sure I like is the "procedurally driven missions." It's not that I don't like the missions, I just don't agree with that phrase. It's just a fancy way of saying that the enemy comes at you randomly. The term they used to describe the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really enjoyed this game. Cool spin on the classic space shmup gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't play that many SHMUPs but this one really hooked me. It's less crazy Cave bullet hell and more like an elegant ballet of destruction where planning, aiming, shooting and tactics matter (almost) as much as your twitch skill. There is a steady stream of new playable ships in the campaign, and each ship has unique weapons and upgrades. You unlock upgrades stage by stage for the ships in your squadron, and decide when to switch out one fighter for another in the heat of combat. It's a fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too simple and not enough fun. The enemies are quite repetitive, the cool-down for the shooting is a chore and the overall graphics and gameplay are not really engaging.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty good game, but the rail gun and cluster bomb achievements need to be adjusted to account for the huge RNG. Otherwise, you'll be waiting 20+ minutes until the enemies are positioned right.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →best game for this type of genre
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this years ago and thought it was a lot of fun. Since then I've gotten heavily into danmaku style shmups and this game is what people in that scene would call a "euroshmup" (this is not generally a positive term). I decided to take a second gander at it recently to see if my opinion of this has changed it all.... It hasn't. This game is still a load of fun and I think this game is criminally underrated. Most shmup players might be turned off by the inertia based movement but I say it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the controls absolutely kill this one for me. either you rubber band back and forth around where you've moved the mouse or you completely overshoot where you intended to go with key strokes. I like 10tons' titles normally, but this one is just aggravating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Third re-install, and this game is GREAT! You control one ship of a squadron of four ships selectable between 7, changeable anytime in-game, with invulnerability when changing, but with cooldown. The mechanics of changing and weapon heating are awesome, works like a "dark souls roll" or dodge, and even comboes with two of the ships! The game is nicely balanced with this, with its inertial movement and slightly diagonal shooting (with was a turn off 4 me at the start) Must play!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great shoot'em up with plenty of different ships and weapons. Switching between ships at any moment and tilting your aim left and right makes the gameplay rather unique. I really enjoyed this game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best bullet hell type game I have played in years.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I am right now. The graphic and ship handling isn't as what you expect from your typical high profile or high budget shmups, it feels more like a wave shooter for mobile. But combination of various factors is really effective for me: giving you a wing of 4 ships and all the different ships and weapons is very effective at making you feel like you're not fighting alone, you're part of a worldwide fight to defend earth; giving your pilots name and giving…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This reminded me of Tyrian which is a good thing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really liked this game, very old school and hooked, played for like 2 hours straight when i first bought it. Will check out others from this developer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never played a game that's so frustrating and fun at the same time. I want to play it again and again. I never spend more than 10 minutes on a shoot em up game. I tend to get bored fast. But not this game. I played for 34 minutes. I had to pause just to get something to eat lol. Thanks for making another great game. You guys rock!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice shmup! The real time switching between the ships makes it varying and by the upgrades and perks you can match it to your playstyle and favourite strategies. Procedurally driven is a bit exaggerated though, since it affects only the order of enemies/asteroids within a mission.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An arcady space shooter with some rpg elements, hard and survival modes and leaderboards to keep the fun going after the brief campaign is completed. Great fun with a gamepad, pretty tricky at times, turning off ship tilt in the options is a good idea. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nicely designed shoot-em-up. The idea of switching fighters is rare enough and well-used: different fighters are better suited to different enemies, and you really have to learn every craft's capabilities. Upgrades also play big role, and you have to think carefully what to buy. Though SOME upgrades seem less useful to me than others. The game is also good-looking. Some downsides: first, and the worst is the checkpoint system. If you lose a level, it forces you to replay all levels since the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent 2D shooter with a few unusual mechanics like swapping out 4 different kinds of ships on one map depending on enemy type. I really enjoyed it. Some of the writing is good, and it plays really well on a controller.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Xenoraid offers a good take on a Shoot-Em-Up genre and brings some good innovations into it. Here's my review video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXl3jsFSF3o Xenoraid is a shoot-em-up/bullet hell, where you control earth defence fleet against alien invaders. Instead of controlling 1 vessel, player owns up to 4 ships which he can swap during the game (also used as a way to dodge enemies/projectiles). Pros • Great weapon „juiciness”: even most basic weapons feel great to fire • Fun to play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another nice game from 10tons.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The video below features 'first hand' gameplay experience of the game only: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tT5meqVcUz0 My Thoughts: I've not had this much fun in a SHUMP for a long while, the ability to use 4 different ships as a tactic is very refreshing. Game Details: Xenoraid is an intense vertically scrolling shoot'em up with dynamic combat. Classic action gameplay with modern features like procedurally driven missions, fighter switching, and squadron management make Xenoraid a fresh and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another great game from 10Ton. How talented are these guys?? Plays on my Steamdeck perfectly, and finished the game in 6 hours on normal. Really enjoyed the smooth gameplay and upgrades and various of different fighter planes. As you play more, you get to learn to appreciate the plane switching which would be a must towards the end. Playing in hard, but it is quite challenging, To the developer - keep up the good work, mate. Thanks for giving me a wonderful time with this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is the most addicting shoot em up I played. The idea of 4 spaceships you can choose any time and the firing mechanisms make the game a solid one. I highly recommend
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vertical gallery shooter in space. Good controls. Different ship types and upgrade paths. Interesting ship swap mechanic. Good presentation. Decent graphics and audio. Some questionable RNG. Listed on the [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/40858110-Shoot-%2527em-up-Database/]Shoot 'em up Database
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is pretty solid and I liked it a lot. This is my opinion after beating the campaign on normal. Pros: The combat feels pretty solid. You can change the pilots (with their accompanying ships) mid game, also allowing you to evade some projectiles. There is different kind of ships with different movement, main and secondary weapons, and upgrades. There is upgrades that affect a single ship. There is upgrades that affect every ship, or the game (like the one that makes the game a little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good small game, the gameplay is solid, the usual from the developer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed it. If you like shooters, you probably will too. Probably worth the $10, and if you're a fan of the genre, absolutely worth it on sale. I completed it on normal in about 9 hours. Gave hard a shot, it was more difficult than what I wanted to deal with, so I moved on. Normal was the perfect difficulty for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Favorite game of 2019 (for me), amazingly good, super challenge on Hard. I played through Hard Level a number of times to really figure out the economics of ship upgrades and how they relate to taking down Bosses! Brutally hard but fair, so it keeps you trying. Highest recommendation, on par with SkyForce Reloaded, wish I could find an equally compelling game to play next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great shooter for people who don't like bullet-hell games. It's super tight and polished, with enough ship variety to keep me going for a while. Works perfectly with steam remote play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic shoot-em-up. Playing through it with a friend online thanks to Steam's new Remote Play. It plays really well, fun to upgrade your ship, ships handle well, and the shooting feels and sounds great. Steam's Remote Play has really opened up a lot of local co-op titles (for online co-op play). And 10tons makes some of the best.
