Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a 2025 Soulslike action role-playing game developed by Leenzee and published by 505 Games. What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised for combat and visuals, but criticized for performance and censorship.
Many players praise the game's fluid combat, stunning visuals, and engaging boss fights, with some calling it one of the best soulslikes since Elden Ring. However, others criticize the rough performance and optimization issues, noting that forced upscaling makes the game look blurry. [1][7][13][34][35]
Some players allege that post-release censorship altered the story and atmosphere, with major bosses now becoming 'exhausted' and NPCs becoming unkillable. Others dismiss these complaints, saying the negative reviews are 'mainly crying about censorship which does not reflect or impact how good this game actually is.' [4][28][31][36]

In this case it is a vocal minority, not a majority, that has led to the changes. Another example of a dev changing a game for a small group. www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/wu...

Level Design The level design is not good. I do not know why it is getting praise in this part. Most of the clever shortcuts do not mean anything, since you have no reason to return because there is fast travel. Only some boss shortcuts matter. Shrine distances are so long in between, filled with many enemies, unfair ambushes and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my first time leaving a review. I have like, 200+ hours in this game, but since I play in offline mode, steam doesn't really record time as a result. I've played all the Dark Souls games, Elden Ring, Nioh's, I've watched a friend play Lies of P, Seikro, and Armored Core 6. So I have a pretty decent grasp on Souls like games. Actually, they're sorta the only games I really play outside of FO4. The first hour of Wuchang I hated lol. I actually stopped because I didn't know what it was…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun, but we shouldn't support developers who make actual story changes to the game after people buy it. The story changes themselves are reason enough for potential new comers to not buy it too because it fundamentally alters the atmosphere of what should be a pretty gritty world.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Forget the negative reviews, they're mainly crying about censorship which does not reflect or impact how good this game actually is! Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a captivating souls like game set in the land of Shu during the dark and tumultuous Ming Dynasty. The world is plagued with warring factions and a mysterious illness spawning monstrous creatures. Wuchang, reminds me of Sekiro, with the shrines, locations and posture breaking attacks that you can pull off after a successful back stab.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great potential but the chinese bozos had to destroy that by complaining because of some mythology and folklore which caused the team that developed wuchang fallen feathers to stop working on it and give up on the game completely, although the game had huge potential as ive mentioned
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Wuchang run currently live on GDQ reminded me of this. Again, a game by a Chinese studio set in China, and it's jam-packed full of skeletons and blood and gore. There's mountains of evidence that Chinese media censors are just messing with western studios if you even give it a cursory look.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers A Common Misconception: Confusing "Unfair and Broken" with "Soulslike" I usually write balanced, combat-focused reviews, but this game completely broke me. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY/PLAY: This game has exploration like Dark Souls 3, not like Dark Souls as a lot of people say. There is no equivalent area to firelink shrine where you can explore in 5 different areas, and you get teleport from the beginning. Non-linear inside each area, linear between areas. You basically HAVE to change your build to defeat the bosses. The game doesn't do a good enough job telling you this, but you cant rely on the dodge to get through the game. Bad…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game delivers fluid, stylish combat that makes you feel unstoppable—right until a heavy-hitting enemy politely deletes your health bar. The breathtaking views trick you into sightseeing before the really good story pulls you in, while boss fight music goes so hard it feels personal. Top it off with great fashion, coz there's no shame in dying looking either badass or chic. The chinese devs always be cooking. Keepup the great work neighbors 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll never understand why this game got censored. It was perfectly fine the way it was at launch. Bunch of overly sensitive weirdos had to go and ruin it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dont get me wrong, this game is good overall. the combat is solid, enemies are challenging, the scenery is nice, and many rpg aspect are implemented correctly. hjowever, as a soulslike newb who wants to learn enemy moveset thru trial and error, the madness system punish me much harder. not only do i lose red mercury (which is a fair penalty), but repeated deaths also increase both the damage i deal and the damage i receive. this makes the learning process painfull, because the more i fail…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m getting yelled at in the comments of my WUCHANG review for praising it for being a $50 game when it could have easily been a $70 game with how much content is packed in and its general quality haha. Apparently I’m “normalizing” the $70 tag by saying as much. Never change comments 😂
unlabelledView post →Take heed, I'm writing this review while being ROYALY pissed off. I didn't much cared about the censorship. In my opinion it was overblown. Mechanically the game is good. From visuals, soundtrack to fighting, abilities and boss fights. Oh, this game have some really cool boss fights. If you want to just kill stuff and don't care about plot whatsoever then go ahead, HAVE FUN. What I CATEGORICALLY can NOT stand, is this BS bread crumb kind of serving of the plot. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of soulslike games, I always had an eye on this since it was announced but every souls fan knows how derivative this subgenre can feel after a while. There's too many cookie cutter games that just copy the fromsoft formula and call it a day. Very rarely do we get games like Lies of P, that draws inspiration from the Fromsoft games but always adds their own unique ideas to it. Wuchang : Fallen Feathers absolutely belongs in that category. From it's unique setting to it's gorgeous…

unlabelledView post →This game can be hit or miss for some players It’s a mix of souls-like and hack-and-slash, with a focus on both skill trees and character stats. This can feel confusing at first, especially since stats and skills share the same resource. The early game feels a bit rough. Bosses have simple designs and limited movesets, so they’re not very fun to fight. However, the game improves a lot in the mid game. Boss fights become faster, more aggressive, and have many more moves with almost no downtime,…

Mechanics (combat): 10/10 - played a two-blade game through vampirism + magic. 3. Locations: 9/10 - removed one point due to the element of "stuffiness", in some places + because of the last location, which, as for me, was made in a hurry (I didn't like only it / the rest are good, in general). 4. The plot: And here it is... 7/10 - I won't say that it's…

The highs were really high, and the lows were really low. Parts of the game were so gorgeous I just wanted to stop and stare at the leaves and watch the waterfall. The bosses, oh the bosses! I agree with other players on two things: 1. It genuinely seems the devs saw that Malenia, Blade of Miquella is the most popularly talked about boss in Elden Ring, due to Let…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a really good, solid souls-like. Yes, it has its flaws, but the game definitely doesn't deserve the hate and low ratings it has received. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3780055160 Don't be afraid to give it a try if you like this genre :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe one of the best games in this style since Elden Ring. In my opinion, it even surpasses Wukong: Black Myth, which is also a fantastic game and comes close to the quality of FromSoftware titles. I really enjoyed the excellent combat and impressive level design. I highly recommend giving this game a try, despite the overly harsh negative reviews.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game I bought and beat on release is no longer the same game, due to censorship of the game after pressure from protestors and the Chinese government. Major bosses now just become "exhausted" and many NPCs become unkillable, and even help you in some levels. While the combat is fun and I appreciate the "gooner" aspects of the game (especially after playing as a monkey in Wukong) , I can't recommend this game since its been fundamentally changed since release.. the story doesn't even make…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty game and the story is alright but some of the boss fights feel like the devs have never played their own game. Hyper armor on bosses is understandable but sometimes you can interrupt an attack and sometimes that same attack is impossible to stop. Hitboxes are pretty off as well. You'll think you're far enough away from an attack but somehow you still get hit by it while your own attacks appear to go right though an enemy an not do anything. The long sword has the same reach as the…

Always having to switch out armors, pendants and benedictions, based on how I feel like taking on selected bosses or areas gets pretty tiresome. It would have been a thumb down after the story got censored but I postponded it and waited for upcoming updates. Because despite those issues, the story (before the censorship), level design and music are pretty solid; weapon variety is also a plus, many different weapons…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lies of P is in a completely different tier than Wuchang imo. Wuchang is still a "pretty good try by a non-Fromsoft dev" type game. Lies of P (and dlc) is as good if not better than some fromsoft attempts

unlabelledView post →I just completed the game on the good ending, and man, this game was just so beautiful. I truly enjoyed the bosses, cutscenes, and level design, which kinda reminded me of Dark Souls 1. It does need some work; some bosses aren't well made, and you may need to do some bull and dance around on your pinky toe to evade. All in all, an enjoyable souls-like, and if you can't beat it, get gud.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even with DLSS superascaling and framegen enabled, the performance is awful. It stuggles to maintain 59 fps and there are is a lot of stuttering. For comparison, Stellar Blade with DLSS is running at 160 fps with no problems. Wuchang is a mess in terms of optimization.

The graphics look amazing. sometimes I just stopped to look around. Combat feels super smooth and fun, not too complicated but still satisfying. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely recommend this game if you’re a fan of the soulslike genre. It has stunning visuals, an amazing soundtrack, and combat that feels rewarding and fresh. There is also much-needed improvements to the soulslike genre that Wuchang did. There were definitely some moments where I could understand why some people don’t like it as much, and it’s definitely not in my top 5 or even top 10 Souls games, but that still doesn’t make it a bad game by any means.
