Do not play this if you are expecting Roadwarden 2. Do not play this if you are expecting a game full of meaningful choices. Do not play this if you want to be the main character in the story. DO play this if you like Fantasy visual novels that are well written and have a nice coherent story from multiple perspectives that all weave together neatly

I loved Roadwarden -- it's one of the best games I've ever played -- but I loved it largely because of its gameplay and free-choice feel. This one, I kept waiting all the way through the first story to get through the linear prologue and into the actual;y-make-choices game. And then it finished. Might be that the next three stories get less linear, but on reading the other reviews I think it's more of the same. Which is a shame. The story was fine, but the thin layer of pseudo-interactivity was…

Played the demo and emailed the Dev about having an option for non-pixelated text as I find pixel text difficult to read. He replies that he'll try. Come release the option is there. Great developer and excited for his next game.

A different experience from their previous game. Much more close to the characters than before (i feel roadwarden was more about the world than any character) and the graphics change is.. interesting. I feel that it is a step down not a step up but that is personal preference only. Other people might like it. I did like that the story was more personal (didn't play that long) so it's still interesting to me. Getting it or not would depend on your personal taste i guess. Perhaps try the demo…

Windy Meadow is a short visual novel made up of 3 intersecting stories in one small village. It's nice to return to the Roadwarden setting, and this is a very different perspective from the one you get in that game. I bought this to support the developer but I honestly wasn't convinced at first, this being more a "slice of life" thing that an adventure. As it goes along, though, you do start to get invested in the stories. Curiously, each story is better than the previous one (if you do them…

There are a lot of games in general. A good number of them have beautifully crafted game worlds. A handful of those game worlds are so rich and beautiful that they create the desire in me to spent hours upon hours in them, regardless of what character I am actually playing as or what the story is about, as long as the game stays true to itself and the world it has created. Last year's Roadwarden was such a gem. Despite strong competition it was my favourite game of 2022. Windy Meadow - A…

Play the demo - it is representative of the entire game. Buy Roadwarden instead. The choices/writing don't really spur any impetus for any choices for any of the characters. It is also kinda woke.

Note that this is a "visual novel". If you played Roadwarden and are expecting the same kind of puzzles and choices that deeply affect the outcome of the story, you're not going to like Windy Meadow. But if you just want another great story set in the same world (that expands on the same incredible backstory), then you'll enjoy this!

It's a shame the art looks like it took more effort than Roadwarden but it has less soul and the writing is worse. Getting more information from dialogue feels like a choir. There aren't many choices that actually affect the ending it felt like.

TL; DR This game is not as fantastic as Roadwarden, but it has its own appeal and does its own thing. Windy Meadow is an underappreciated visual novel about a rustic little village and the trouble and trauma that ails its people, it makes me feel things and is therefore easy to recommend. Note features terrible parents, but also a few parental figures that are actually supportive. Story Windy Meadow is a little village out in the wilderness, they face the sort of issues that are normal in…

In the same setting as Roadwarden, a small rural hamlet undergoes quick changes with long lasting consequences. Unlike Roadwarden, this is a far shorter game and with no gameplay mechanics outside of its more conventional UI, as well as overall presentation. While the content is short lived, Windy Meadow is clearly a passionate project made by few, which in itself - lends some nice value to what it is and what it means. I'd say the ultimate crux of the story is about choosing how to react…

Like most who've played this, I was brought here by Roadwarden. I'm not much for visual novels: I find them long-winded and too self-referential. Most VNs reek of "original character, do not steal," mary sues, rambling overexplanations, paper cutout characters, and worldbuilding that started and never stopped. Window Meadow isn't one of those lackluster VNs. It's sincere, beautiful, and captivating. Something about the author's style of writing draws me in like only the most legendary of games…

Windy Meadow is exactly as advertised - a slice of life visual novel with some light decision making. The pixel graphics are very nice and the music is solid. It doesn't have the same impact as Roadwarden either in style or narrative, but it's an interesting take on the same world.

There's no way around it - Windy Meadow is a great companion piece to Roadwarden. So play if you love it's world. For me Roadwarden world was an answer to the question that I never asked myself - how do normal people live in the world full of monsters? Usually RPG could provide only the perspective of an all-powerful band of adventurers, but what about normal people who must live each day near the undead, goblins and dragons? Well, they do not have an easy life. However while Roadwarden give a…

Overall I'd recommend, I have some gripes with the length considering the length of Roadwarden, but it still a nice distraction for 3 hours, and the continued world building. You don't need to play Roadwarden to really understand it, but it does reinforce the ideas from that game, while this reinforces others in Roadwarden. The VFX shift is interesting, and is detailed enough for what it does. Story is nice for a slice of life game.

Recommended for anyone who enjoyed Roadwarden with the expectation that it won't meet the bar that Roadwarden sets. This game is much of what I expected and hoped for: Character development, a story that kept my interest, delightful music. To the developer, I feel that there were missed opportunities I would have liked to see. (1) Why not end it with Fable writing down the story of Windy Meadow? (2) I would have been more interested to see a story from one of the locations and characters…

Gameplay Missing There is no real gameplay here. The game merely requires the player to press the left-mouse-button to progress through text—this constitutes the entirety of the game mechanics. While the pixel art is very well-crafted and the narrative holds some intrigue, the overall experience is somewhat disappointing due to the complete lack of gameplay.

Great, not the same as Roadwarden. But if you enjoyed RoadWarden for the story and the rich lore of another world, you'll enjoy it. This is more of an animated book / visual novel. Dev if you're reading this keep up the good work - I also though maybe like the Yakuza series you can reuse all the art/area of the world from your first game if you wanted and made a story following/similar. I dunno just a random though :).

What I enjoy the most in this game is the slice-of-life approach to the story. The life of 'ordinary' people in not so ordinary setting. Even though it is a visual novel (and not, for example, a role playing game), there is a charm here that seems to be the feature of the designer. The attention to detail - like notches on a stick denoting the passage of time in the game. The care about the world and its elements - even in the main menu we can hover over the area map and read up some lore. I…

Excellent and delighfull, but short, story in the Roadwarden universe. It's a visual novel with some choices where you follow three villagers during the days leading up to a goblin attack all while dealing with a personal dilemma. The 3 stories are mostly separate with some minor overalap and each has two different paths that form your personality (each with one achievement, it's pretty obvious what choices to pick when you see the result, or peak at the achievements). The artstyle is great,…

Windy Meadow is a visual novel that takes a bit to settle into, but once you accept the format, mostly dialogue options with some interactive moments, it becomes a pleasant, low-stakes experience. It's a great foil to the epic Roadwarden, set in the same captivating universe, making it a perfect choice for anyone eagerly awaiting Roadwarden 2 (fingers crossed for that). The pixel art is gorgeous, as you'd expect, and the sound design really shines, complementing the atmospheric vibe of the…

It's a pleasant read, with just alright visuals (some animations looked too stiff) and the most boring cripple AND a bard story you could think of. Both huntress and herbalist are decent characters with their struggles (tho Iudicias anger issues seem to be random and with no actual epilogue it's a bit strange), but the dual nature of choices are what hurts the experience the most. With every character having two paths both in their story and a tie in last chapter, you are left with one…

A cozy and simple visual novel, this is a less ambitious game than Roadwarden but stimulated the same receptors that first made me love that title. The scope this time is narrower but focused on the most interesting part of Roadwarden - the tribal villages. This time you're on the inside looking out and it fleshes out a part of that world that I wanted to see more of, which I think is pretty much the mission statement for this game. This game has very well written characters with compelling stories. The fun part of the game is helping them decide what paths their futures will take and how they react to and overcome the challenges they are all going to experience together - but from different points of view. This game is a VN with interesting fleshed-out characters which describe the same events from different perspective. Similar to Roadwarden there is a strong focus on small communities and a fairly interesting unique and dark setting. The only drawback I can think of is that the game is on a shorter side, it looks like I finished it within 6 hours.

A surprisingly poignant VN! I wasn't sure it was something I wanted to experience since it was so different from Roadwarden, a game I hold pretty close to my heart. But there was something in experiencing the small lives of fantasy country-folk to take away from. I wasn't expecting such an accurate depiction of neurodivergence in the same sort of setting, either--and what the character went through is a sharp reflection of the things in life I've struggled with. This is what young adult novels rarely are but should be: shaping growth and examining choices. I finished it in four and a half hours, playing very slowly, and it was time well spent. There's nothing spectacular here (especially compared to the brilliant Roadwarden), but there's crises, warmth, and curiosity. Might be for you if a low fantasy somber drama visual novel sounds good, or if you'd like to experience the Roadwarden setting from a very different angle.

Windy Meadow is more grounded than its predecessor, taking place within one town but through the lens of three of its young adult residents.
