It's a textual subject of the films (hand carving violins in Whisper of the Heart, for just one example) and the meta work that goes into the films themselves. Their films feature hard workers, and are animated with sweat and tears.
unlabelledView post →He made Whisper Of The Heart, which is probably my favorite Ghibli film, and then no others because of his death I have a LOT of thoughts about that fact, but wanted to make sure that work accompanies his name
unlabelledView post →Whisper of the Heart is the best Ghibli movie, hands down. I've seen it twice and both times it has left me speechless and made me cry. I want to burn into my heart its energy, its romance, its whimsy, its hope, its meaning... I want to write the story that is my life, with courage.
unlabelledView post →also as long as i'm talking about Whisper of the Heart, you might be surprised to learn it's based on a short manga from the late 80s. the ghibli film adds several elements to deepen the story but sticks surprisingly close to the source in a lot of places, giving it a very sweet shoujo heartbeat imo
unlabelledView post →Also, Kondo directed one movie, Whisper of the Heart, and it's wonderful and everyone should watch it. One of my favorite Ghibli movies and not loved nearly enough.

unlabelledView post →I've been thinking a lot about Whisper of the Heart lately and this film really has just grown more special for me. It's easily one of Studio Ghibli's most serene films and its message and characters are something that I find myself loving more over time. Just a perfect film.
unlabelledView post →Whisper of the Heart is in theaters today, so here's what I wrote for its 30th anniversary last year! Kondo's Ghibli film remains a relevant portrait of what finding connection in an urbanizing, digital world feels like.

unlabelledView post →Admittedly Whisper of the Heart might have been made by peering into my future and asking what young Anna might like in a movie. It’s got fairy tales, a library, clocks, a funny grandpa and the world’s most aloof cat. I have also never seen a piece of media so accurately reflect writing.

unlabelledView post →such a great film that all creatives should see at least once - Whisper of the Heart 💗
unlabelledView post →It's telling that the only way tech chuds can understand Ghibli is as an aesthetic brand in service of capitalism. Guarantee none of them have even heard of Whisper of the Heart - the best Ghibli film - and it's message that creating art is simultaneously the hardest and most worthwhile thing.

unlabelledView post →Oooo, maybe this means the film and series will get a modern stateside release. It’s not just a classic from Isao Takahata, but also a huge moment in the career of the show’s Animation Director, Yoshifumi Kondo (the late director of Whisper of the Heart)

unlabelledView post →To combat these feelings, I revisited WHISPER OF THE HEART, my favorite Ghibli movie. It holds up. In fact, this ode to human creativity and the passion it takes to hone it hits a lot harder now. It left me with a renewal of purpose and even a sliver of hope.

unlabelledView post →Whisper of the Heart is beautiful. Cat Returns is worth it for Peter Boyle's dub alone. Only Yesterdays is a truly great film that has been underrated for so long it might be correctly rated now. Pom Poko is plodding & ridiculously Japanese but my daughter loves it. Ocean Waves is mid but not bad

Most well reviewed films are held up by well written stories with substantial messages more than utilizing a recognizable brand to do cool things.
