Western Press

Developer Bandit-1

Based on a true story, Western Press is the most historically accurate frontier dueling game available for PC and Mac. Probably. Up to 16 players (or bots) compete in a tournament of 1v1 sprints to press a random string of ten buttons the fastest. From the Steam store page

Western Press is a one-on-one duel where the faster button-presser shoots the slower. There is literally nothing more to it than that. You and one other player are shown ten random keys, and whoever presses them first wins. Rinse and repeat. One of the blurbs on the store page compares it to Divekick, in that it's a simplified concept taken to the extreme. I guess that's accurate, but what makes divekick interesting is how even in that simplified environment, there's still a great deal of…

Western Press is a typing game, where you are thrown back into the old west where you fight to come out on top. In the game you play as a woman who is killing everyone in her path and you this by typing or pressing button combinations. That's about all I can summarize the game with as it's as simple as it sounds. There's no power ups, nothing, all you do is type and if you're faster than your opponent you win and continue with your journey, you die you go back to the fight and try to win.…

Short, one-time party game. Fun for maybe 10-15 minutes, and then quickly wears out. Feels like taking a single challenge from a Mario Party game and turning it into a stand-alone game. Furthermore, for a game where the rounds are ~5 seconds long, the waiting time in between rounds is excruciatingly long...

Holy, this is, really, really bad. Its fun for the first 2-3 matches and then you realise, the input for your keyboard is absolute ♥♥♥♥. It takes up to a full second to realise you click one of the letters at times. Not to also mention that the letters themselves are impossible to read. I do alot of online type racing, mostly typeracer and a few others and I consistently hit 70-90+ WPM(words per minute) and I have a really good typing keyboard with nearly no latency, but this is just...bad. Western Press is Bandit-1’s first ever game on Steam while it is publisher Surprise Attack’s tenth. This time around they’ve delivered one of the most ingenious games that I have played this year in a gun toting wild west game that will be all over in a matter of seconds. The concept isn’t new it’s the delivery that is. Players – and you can play as a single player against a competitive AI – aim to beat a row of controller presses as quickly as possible. It’s a wild west shoot out as the…

A simple pattern minigame that has no story but a nice setting. There's a sequence of 10 letters/buttons you have to press before your opponent, wrong inputs usually add a time penalty. You can play with either controller or keyboard (and for keyboard, choose words or random letters). Single player campaign (called 'Skill Tester') is a just series of 9 duels with increasingly fast AI. The bulk of your play time should be with online friends or split-screen multiplayer. The single player…

Could have been a pretty fun game, I like the core concepts, but the font they chose to use is abysmal. I get that they were going for a pixel look, but in a game which is about split-second reaction it is incredibly frustrating to be unable to tell an R from an A. Also, having the letters appear vertically just makes it more difficult to read as well. These aren't "fun" challenges, they're irritating handicaps.

Western Press is a fast typing duel game, where you are pitted against bots or players to see who types a long word fastest. On paper, this is a good idea and I love typing games, but once you figure out it's actually NOT a typing game, here lies the problem: PROS: 1) Nice pixelart 2) Cool idea 3) Low price CONS: 1) The words are shown vertically rather than horizonally, which turns the game into a QTE button masher. (which explains why a controller is supported) 2) No one plays online (tried…

A small indie game developed by Bandit-1 studios, Western Press delivers an interesting and challenging experience where you duel various different people in the Wild West, from Native American Indians to cowboys and even priests with shotguns. It’s a very simple game with pixelated graphics and only one gameplay style: duel enemies in a difficulty curve that resembles a shuttle flight pattern because this game is only big enough for one of you. Same as whats been said already multiple times in the reviews. Cool concept thats fun for a bit, but gets old quickly. Online is dead, tourny mode is just boring with only bots since the majority of it is just skipping through and theres only 9 levels to the skill tester [campaign i guess]. Wouldve probably gone up in popularity if it was free. Couldve added micros for characters as an income generator Mabey a leveling system for online.

Has some interesting things going on, but it's a one-trick pony, and the pony is on death's door by the time you get to it. Replayability is a negative number. It takes way too long to get a single round rolling due to the meandering nature of all the unnecessary animations scattered throughout the game, that seem to exist solely to keep you from getting to the part where you actually play. The 'insults' thrown by the characters are obnoxious and never land correctly; they're almost invariably…

I’m truly baffled by all the positive reviews this game has gotten because it sucks so hard. It’s incredibly shallow and thin on content; was bored of it within half an hour. Plus, by the sixth duel the difficulty spiked in ridiculous fashion. The CPU opponent was completing his commands in 2.6 seconds. Seriously, WTF is up with that? I could go on with the negatives, but I feel I’ve wasted enough of my time on this title. Refund requested.

Installed. Typed a word wrong. Got shot and killed. 10/10 would type again. Not so much a game as a single word at a time typing lesson. The premise of the game is easy. You square off in a duel against a bot or another player. After a countdown a word will appear on the screen. Whoever spells it first correctly wins the duel. There is also a memory mode where you need to remember a string of increasing commands. I wish there were more to the game but thats about it. The online is…

As someone who played typing flash games in competitions against my family growing up, this game was such a great treat for me. It's a dueling sudden death game in which you must type a word faster than your opponent. If you aren't much of a typist, the game supports controllers, as well (I've heard it's better with a controller, but I don't have one to test it out on). It's cheap, and I'm sure it's even cheaper when it goes on sale, so pick it up sometime and give it a try!

Western Press is a reaction based typing game, where you need to input the correct string of characters or memorize it in order to win a life and death western duel. The game has an all right idea for a typing game, nothing too serious, but it makes the basic game interesting. The story teller's lines are pretty good, but sadly there is not many of them. Another Simon Says game, where the entire point of the game is boiled down to twitch reflexes. The twist this time around is that you can either make it harder or easier on you by choosing the input method. So you can either do it via controller or if you, like me, are a proficient typist who averages around 100 words or 500+ keystrokes per minute, you can completely dominate the game by typing out predefined words. The single-player is limited only to a handful of AI enemies and seem more…

It's a suprisingly challenging game that would be even better against friends, especially with the stress pauses of not knowing if you've won a duel when you finish your moves just miliseconds apart from your oponent.
