Update 3 after finishing the game! Wrote a full review down below and edited my first impression part a bit, my review contains some very minor spoilers but if you are in between to buy this game or not, really recommend to read it first. My short answer is still same. Would i recommend this game to a friend? Short answer: Not really for this price range Long answer: I played the game for a hour right now and finished prologue/played the main game a bit and i must say for this price range,…

This game is awful. I can't even rationalize how they managed to screw everything doing the exact same game but making it tenfold worse. I liked the first Voice of Cards very much, this one is killing me. Everything is worse, the party, the mechanics, the ratio of random encounters, the progress, the story, i can't manage to find something done good here (maybe the strange inside heart segments, maybe). More or less there are the same cards of the first game, i have nothing against re-using…

Boy, was I surprised how much I love this game after the middling reviews. Best way to think about the series is Yoko Taro making RPG Maker games, they're really love letters to retro JRPGs. While Isle Dragon was more of a reference to seminal late-80's RPGs like Phantasy Star, FF1 and DQ1, Forsaken Maiden is a nod to early-aughts PS2-era RPGs. There's even a chapter that has an arena tournament lol. The maiden/attendant set up lends itself to distinctive playstyles in each chapter, which I…

It has a better story than the last one, but it's still weak. If Taro and company's names weren't as marketed as they were into this, I might even consider the writing passable. The UI is garbage, sometimes you will have to click multiple times to drag a spell card or it may cancel the cast if you move too quickly. The GM in this one is a lot more lively, but he screws up the reading at times, repeating the text of the cards from the beginning. (Which leads me to think they even skimped on…

Exactly like the previous game but with a worse story and horrible balancing issues. Your main character is the only one you can give better weapons to. This makes the damage output of your party pitiful from start to finish. The leading lady will do no damage until the final area of the game, and the third (and fourth) members are replaced so often you just stop caring. Most of them don't even earn EXP from fights! Important and unique items and quests are locked behind random encounters…

    35. Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars Neat game, super easy until the literal final boss where it kinda locks the fuck in? Not complaining, game was a good time, very heartfelt. You can definitely feel the Yoko Taro-isms, but also it's kind of heartwarming, despite the subject matter?

Noticeably worse than the first game in almost every single way that matters. It's hard to put where this game lays for me. Personally I see it as average. I had enough fun with it I guess? Fun is subjective here. It's a slog to get through most of the time, and you can definitely see the cracks, so I can't in good conscience give it above a 5/10 and if I was being completely honest it'd be a 4/10 for me. If there was a way to say you "maybe" recommend a game, this would fall in that category…

basically a 1:1 continuation of the first Voice of Cards game, not story wise but mechanical, so if you loved/hated the original you most likely do the same here, only difference being the speed-mode is part of the game from the get-go and not a tagged on update. music is awesome, i personally liked the OST of the first one better, esp the main song however the OST in here is still really really good and sets the mood quite well. story is... well, it's a Yoko Taro story alright, so if you…

The excessive random encounters ruins the game and makes what should be a short, simple JRPG into a boring slog. For every 2 minutes of story there's 58 minutes of random encounters. Even if you decide to flee from every random encounter it still takes forever to get through any of the dungeons. And to be clear, what story is there is really small, each set of maiden+attendant have probably <10 lines of dialogue. The character cards and their backstories are funny/interesting but there's so…

This game has taken all the feedback about the problems in the previous game and made this game worse in every way. There's still a vast amount of clicking to go through the dialogue and the game over explains everything. Mechanics Only the main character can be fully equipped. Laty has a weak weapon that cannot be changed, resulting in her attacks barely doing any damage for most of the game. Lac cannot have any equipment and disappears when you recruit a maiden, so he's always…

spoiler free summary section: The Forsaken Maiden suffers from to many flaws for me to recommend this game to anyone. Highly frequent random encounters, a clunky menu system, terrible battle system, a generic RPG story that's hamfisted with melodrama, and lack of some basic quality of life things all come together to make TFM a chore to complete. The series has a lot going for it when you take into account the music and visuals but I cant help but feel there was absolutely no risk taken with…

It's pretty infrequent that I write a negative review, but I cannot recommend this game over the previous one. First issue with the game that I have, the endings are barely different from one another and there is no secret ending to my knowledge; I don't know why the pay off for beating the game is so insubstantial relative the first game when this one is so much harder. It's not like the secret/best ending is really necessary either, but it's just a bizarre step back in effort. Second issue,…

Ehhh? It's a fine JRPG but not spectacular. The music is good but it makes some choices that I'm not personally a fan of but I respect them playing with some JRPG conventions. It does some things better and worse than the original (The Isle Dragon Roars), but the story feels a bit better here. If you are looking for a JRPG you could do worse, and if the tabletop card game aesthetic with a narrator seems like your thing, it might be worth giving a try.

Improvements from the first game: The combat was a lot more varied here due to the constantly swapping party members that lead to each chapter feeling pretty distinct and fresh. I liked the story, I actually liked both the first and this entry of the series. True that both share game mechanics but I presumed that it was going to be the same anyways since it was meant to be a small game to play as suppose to playing a 60hrs game. There were some points in which the GM reads the line twice and sometimes, during fights, you have click twice to cast your attack or even cancel. some bugs in the fighting sequences but overall it was a good game.
