The player guides the initial German onslaught at Verdun, but with the historical alternative that the French high command heeded warnings of a German buildup in the sector.

But the game win went to them, as the French defense was advantaged here, in the last gasp of German effort at Verdun in July 1916.

This is one of the hottest CDGs of the last few years, and while it is impressive, do I love it? ...yes? ish? www.stuartellisgorman.com/blog/verdun-...

unlabelledView post →I actually did do something similar to this (inspired initially by @scribblemhorror.bsky.social's Mapping Game, which took inspiration from Verdun!) It was for a stand-alone dungeon crawler game that I was working on called ODD DELVES - I should return to that someday, haha.
unlabelledView post →A brutal german breakthrough at the east flank, taking the banks of the Meuse and preventing french forces from recapturing the area. Really enjoyed our first short game of Verdun: Steel Inferno. We played 2 months of the war, a "full" game would be 11! (though the germans can force victory sooner)

unlabelledView post →Nice. Verdun 1916 Steel Inferno is one of my all time favorite games. I was privileged to have learned it from Mr. @volko.bsky.social who graciously taught it to me at SDHistCon a year or so ago. Amazing how well that game creates the feeling of a back and forth slog in the trenches. Great game.

unlabelledView post →I got myself the new BlackMill old person WW1 shooter, except I didn't realize this one is going to be full of actual Turkish nationalists, which is an extreme genre of a person. Also the game is now having like maybe too much in it. Verdun was too bare, but this is overloaded with mechanics.
