I was a beta tester, and from the start it gave me that original Squad Leader board game feel, more than any other computer game I've played, and I've played a lot, really since the beginning, since Pong. It is not overly complex, but the basics of fire and maneuver apply to the game, just like SL. The scenarios are small compared to many games, and they are short. You can play from either side and the AI does a good job. Depending on how fast you play, 30-60 minutes for a scenario would be my…

Turns are incredibly too short. Basically the only strategy for offence is to rush but just about every element is working against the offensive. You cannot coordinate fire on a hex, only what you have in your stack - excluding vehicles - , which forces you to try and create DOOM stacks. Tanks cannot overrun. Defensive units are basically untouchable given how attrition works... you have to shoot the same hex more times than you have stacks/units and you'd better hope each roll is a 1,1…

Who gave negative reviews don't deserve this little gem, they don't understand this game and where the inspiration for it comes from. As well as others here I'm a old grognard who has played many board wargames (you name them) at this tactical scale. While I can appreciate the high complexity of the cited Squad Leader (with most optional rules) and Advanced Squad Leader and several others, I value also playable games. You can't compare apples with oranges and here it is the same. Clearly the…

A good looking and good sounding game based on a rare case of a free print & play boardgame that plays amazingly. However this version plays horribly. The UI is terrible, unresponsive, forcing you into missclicks that require restarting the scenario. The rules aren´t implemented correctly (or fully for that case) and the scenario editor is lacking. The many scenarios are all the same basic premise of static defender and moving attacker. Always playing the attacker by default since the AI is…

What can I say, long time (since the beginning) Squad Leader fanatic. Mrswargamer (me), says this game is oodles of fun. Just played the Tractor Factory, bitter fight each turn, gained a Decisive Victory which the turn previous was a total loss. Played the Russians. My troops were lousy performance (only when it mattered of course :) ), but my tanks trashed their armour for no losses. About 15 minutes of total fun (which means I didn't spend 3 hours reading rules clauses in the manual hehe).…

I'll start off by saying that although I don't recommend this for now, from what I've heard and read from the devs, they are committed to improving this game. I'm confident the problems will get ironed out over time, hence I haven't requested a refund. That said, this game has a lot of issues. First off, the lack of audio-visual settings. The most basic stuff is missing, but I'd personally like more options for the window mode, specifically bordered window that I can scale manually. The lack…

Ive been watching the scenarios and something is wrong with the dice mechanism. Over the past 3 days I'e tried to play about 10 games total, I have won 1 of these 10 games against the AI. Here is my issue after 9 very frustrating games I decided to actually measure what I had been observing in the last 6 or so games. The AI averaged a 5.1 in its dice rolls and I averaged a 9.2. This was set to a dice advantage in favor of myself the player. My suspicion is that it was same or similar in…

play board game. good game. easy to play. didn't watch tutorials. played first 2 scenarios. got my share of dice rolls. screen is great. doesn't need a zoom. music and sound were fine. i'm happy with purchase. haven't checked the scenario editor yet. no regrets. If the AI 'crushes' you...then you probably do need an UNDO button.

I've played over 3,000 different board games and countless computer games. I also spent at least a decade on Matrix Games forums complaining about nearly every game. What few games met some of my expectations would fail completely if nothing else on the horrible User Interface. While some decent games existed for other scales nothing made in more than a decade seemed to do the tactical scale correctly. For these reasons and more I didn't even bother with this game at first. And yet this…

Normandy is good campaign. Stalingrad has poorly thought out scenarios. In Normandy, campaign you have the ability to maneuver and fight on both sides. In Stalingrad, it appears the designers set every scenario to be an ambush. Russian ATRs are too powerful. Forget using armored car. As you move your troops up they get shot to pieces. The die rolls seem also to help the Russians or your opponent. There are no levels and the designer has opted for impossible. The turns set for many scenarios…

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this game in its current state. Amongst others, there is a bug which causes the game to freeze during fire phases which renders the game essentially unplayable. Occasionally the game also freezes when selecting units within a stack particularly after firing one unit in the stack. And as others have noted, it is very easy to make a "click" error and there is no undo button - sort of understandable for attacks, not so understandable for movement, particularly…

Only have played about 3 hours and it is fun very easy to understand rules etc. That being said there are some quirks and I dont want this to be too negative but the game is very limited. ABANDONED - Or at least it was. Now they added dlc to this still terribly buggy game. A mess to say the least. I like the game, but JFC there are some serious drawbacks. Crashes often. Freezes constantly, glitches, bugs. I suffered through 5 hours of this crap while reading the manual from start to finish and then dealing with abhorrently unbalanced dice rolls in favor of the AI, constant UI issues, and tons of other problems. I doubt I'll be able to get a refund, but if I can save YOU money…

AI bias makes this an unplayable game. I was looking forward to this as I have enjoyed the squad leader type tabletop games. I played the 1st scenario about a dozen times and never came close to winning. Even my final scores were terrible. This scenario is very small and features an urban fight where the defensive bonuses are basically the same no matter the unit. Even if I was a bad player, I should've been able to eek out a win at least once just based on luck. I played 2 more games, one…

While there is a lot to like about this game it is utterly ridiculous that I can have three stacks of units next to an enemy stack and all three miss two turns in a row. There needs to be adjustment in hit attempts for distance and some improvement in hit chances for consecutive attacks on the same target. The current set up makes tactics meaningless.

I really like the idea of this game but the product doesn't seem finished. The A.I. seems to get rather large bonuses since it kills units so easily yet survives so much being thrown at a unit.No easy way to deselect units. A tutorial that seems to ignore half the game. The list goes on. Maybe if the work on the core game instead of more DLC, it will be better.

Very good game. The AI is tough but not impossible to beat. I'm an ASL player and my first game is a draw. V&V is very playable: it's easy to learn and hard to master. Use wisely the terrain, learn when to stay and to dash forward, spread your forces and form a killer stack only when you need its firepower. It's a 1.0 version: i'm sure there will be improvements soon (i.e. the Zoom).

The execution is fine but the game is too dependent on luck. The first scenarios are close to impossible for the axis and a piece of cake for the allies. When the range of results for a single fire attack goes from nothing to 5 hits (which will eliminate a unit an flip another) much of the battle is hoping you get debilitating fire attacks to win the scenario.

I absolutely love this game. It has a feel like squad leader yet slightly different. Most scenarios are pretty quick so it's not a huge investment in time to play a quick game. Multiplayer works fine. And the occasional tournament is a blast. The art work on the boards and counters is excellent, and there are quite a few boards to use with the editor. You can have small scenarios played out in only a couple of hours. Be aware that you will be at the mercy of the RNG gods, some bad dice rolls can turn a game. What a beautiful game this is. It's known for being a simplified take on the ASL rules but honestly I'd say it reminds me of the classic SL far more than full blown ASL, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I used to play ASL via Vassal and was completely obsessed with it at one point but I've since come to the conclusion that games like SL or indeed this Valor & Victory game are at least as much fun and far, far easier to pick up and play. This is a major improvement over Lock & Load. The turn structure is much more practical, the controls are intuitive, and the rules of the game are correctly built into the fabric of the game so there is no hunting through the manual to figure out how to pop smoke or use a flamethrower. It does what a computer wargame is supposed to do: handle the rules, while the player focuses on tactical choices, such as trying to get men across a street without being decimated. You can create your own scenarios, although there is no map editor. You get US, UK, USSR (DLC) and GE. You can edit the data files if you really want a King Tiger or an IS-3. I don't have any problems with the game as others seem to have. So nothing bad with the software itself. What about the rules though? Well, it's a pretty bog standard tactical wargame. It's OK and fun, but I haven't really noticed anything that makes it stand out from the crowd. Personally I think combat is a bit too deadly and the map scale seems to be off at times. The Random Battle Generator is a quick alternative which also works. Have not played much o the default scenarios ,prefer to generate my own or randomly do so. The game is open to Modding since most assets are .pngs which can be substituted. I have had a little go myself at this. An excellent Mod ,Global WW2 adds at present 7 armies to the game…
