Uplink (also known in North America as Uplink: Hacker Elite) is a simulation video game released in 2001 by the British company Introversion Software. The player takes charge of a freelance computer hacker in a fictional futuristic 2010, and must break into foreign computers, complete contracts and purchase new hardware to hack into increasingly harder computer systems. unlabelledView post →(I would play Earth 2150 against my friends and spam out the cheapest spider chassis with the cheapest long range missile launcher attached and absolutely dominate) Uplink was, I think, a text based hacking game, but I could be remembering wrong.

Grab it on itch, or as a Monthly Games member on the Ansible Uplink Patreon.

The debut title from 'The Last of the Bedroom Coders' Introversion Software. The musical vibes of this game are sublime <3
unlabelledView post →in my misspent youth i played a lot of a game called Uplink, which was a campy hacker simulator that was remarkably fun to play if kind of grindy, and had a story that kind of punched above its weight in ways i don't think i appreciated at the time

In this first video the basics are introduced and the direction of the project is shared If this seems interesting, follow for updates! #gamedev #indiedev youtu.be/3tagY-3WhKA

unlabelledView post →🧵 I'm a couple days late, but Half-Life 2 was a monumental game that left a HUGE impression on 13-year-old me, and I can hardly believe it's been TWENTY YEARS. 👴 At the time of its release, the only Half-Life I had played was the Half-Life Uplink demo, and lots of CS 1.6, if you wanna count that.

unlabelledView post →idly thinking about a game that's like Uplink (i.e. a hacker typing type of game UI) but it has the side effect of teaching you markdown
unlabelledView post →Half-Life has been a top 5 game for me since first playing the Uplink demo on a PCGamer disc. I try and replay it once every few years and this time, I fired up the ray-traced version to see it in a different light and wow... It really adds to the atmosphere!
unlabelledView post →UPLINK. Introversion Software's first game is still one of my favourites. Its minimalist aesthetic and well-crafted MOD tunes gave it great atmosphere, and once you figured out the hacking gameplay, it was super-fun, too. Never beat the story, but I loved the varied missions. 76/365 #365games

It's a lot of fun if you like that sort of thing. For some reason "machines inside of machines" games are fascinating to me.

I’d had an idea for a new sci-if adventure I might try as a solo project after this.
unlabelledView post →Is this counting Half-Life Uplink as a Half-Life game? because that's genuinely really clever and I never considered that. Or is this another case of someone thinking Opposing Force released after Blue Shift lol
unlabelledView post →I know you mean it in an action game context but several RPG-ish games like Uplink where you have to wait some days for a specific outcome do feature them. I think stealth games would be better with having one (like when waiting for patrols to pass by) but it would probably be bad for The Vibes
unlabelledView post →If we leave off the free demos (Uplink and Lost Coast), that would be Opposing Force, which is still solidly an 8/10 if not more. You can't go wrong with any HL game really
unlabelledView post →I always think of Uplink which was probably my first intro to that type of game. These games always just make me wish the OS was real lol

unlabelledView post →Yesterday, for the first time in 24 years since I first played the game, I finally beat the main story of Uplink. All of my past playthroughs ended prematurely either because I made a careless mistake, got traced and busted or because I just missed the story happening.
unlabelledView post →Yeah, Ive even run into games that don't really work on modern Windows just work in Linux. Actually the only game Ive had trouble running is the native version of Uplink? I think its a weird X11 -> Wayland issue. Running the Windows version works fine though so.

Later, Quadrilateral Cowboy released and I don't think I've ever felt as much like a Swordfish-style hacker since. #365games

unlabelledView post →I tend to use the soundtrack to the early-2000s hacker-themed computer game Uplink. I played it so much in college my brain associates that music with doing fine-detail-oriented work under a tight deadline.
unlabelledView post →Uplink is a game I keep revisiting, in part because the soundtrack has never left my mind, but also because it's really really hard (to me), in a fun way. It has this way of teaching you to be subtle but also think on your feet. As a game from 2001 (!!!) I think more people should talk about it.
unlabelledView post →Half-Life: Uplink Neat little demo that released a few months after the game and made available once again through the 25th Anniversary update. Consists of a level that isn't in the full game where you fight some typical HECU and Xen enemies with a Gargantua setpiece at the end.

unlabelledView post →(sorry, couldn’t resist) Uplink is a computer game from, eh, uh, probably 2001-ish? set in the far-off future of 2010, that is all about Hollywood-style hacking. Dial in to corporate mainframes, steal data, digital bank heists, etc. Fun gameplay and *excellent* music.
unlabelledView post →okay, game idea: A hollywood hacking simulator, like Uplink/Hacknet where you're crackin passwords, grabbin secure data etc... Except the desktop isn't 2D. It's the fucking COMPIZ CUBE. and the 3D interface is a core gameplay mechanic. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR8x...
