I love the idea of this, I really do, and I really want to play this and enjoy it. However, the lack of subtitles is what's barring me from enjoyment. I have auditory processing issues and I typically require subtitles in most dialogue heavy games, so the lack of them in this game breaks my heart. I unfortunately cannot play the game because of this, and I hope to see subtitles in the future. Stay away if you're like me and you need subtitles to function in dialogue heavy games!

First of all, there are no subtitles, hearing impaired people and non-native English speakers be damned. For the most part, speech was articulated clearly, but there were a few instances where it was hard/impossible to understand what was being said. I am a visual learner, and I found this game very tedious and boring. The gameplay is just listening to people speak and following them around, trying to piece together various dialogues into a story. I had trouble staying focused trying to…

Was interested by the concept but was quite disappointed in the end. On top of that the portrayal of mental issues and people suffering from them betrays a severe lack of research and was quite insulting. Mentally ill people are significantly more at risk of being assaulted or killing themselves than mentally healthy people (especially people suffering from schizophrenia) and the blatant dehumanisation of them by the game portraying them all as comploting nutjobs is exhausting and depressing, I…

I discovered Unheard while looking through every deduction game on Steam, like a raccoon looking through a dumpster for a half-eaten cake. It is an audio-based deduction game wherein you are given a top-down blueprint view of a building, and a scrubber (like a YouTube playback bar) that allows you to play out 10-20 minutes worth of story. You can only hear audio near where you are standing, so to put together what's going on, you need to walk around, scrub around, and replay segments, following…

Pros: Neat concept Puzzles that increase in difficulty over time, Easy to understand how it works Cons: Very short (4 hours playtime for me) Why the everliving fudge would you spend 2 minutes replaying the conversations after completing a level, in an UNSKIPPABLE cutscene? I just heard all these conversations THATS HOW I SOLVED THE PUZZLE i dont need to listen to an unskippable 2minute recap of something I LITERALLY JUST DID) Unsatisfying ending. I…

This was a neat concept that I’d love to see more of…but not from this developer. There are no subtitles, making the game inaccessible or less accessible to anyone with auditory issues. I had to play at a very loud volume and press the speakers into my ears at times. This is basic game development, come on now. The way they responded to calls for subtitles rubbed me the wrong way, and their rabid fanbase has been quick to defend this boneheaded decision. I get that they were stoked about…

Disappointed with the quality of the voicover. Maybe it's better in the other languages, but in english everything is so over-acted that it both seems silly and makes it really obvious what's going on. There's not much mystery to solve when characters verbalize everything like this. I was hoping this would be more in like with audiodramas where you get the feeling that you're present with the characters in a real world but you just can't see anything. So there are the sounds of footsteps,…

I'm not into detective games and I didn't remember why I bought this game in first place. But I agree with others that the concept is really neat and unique. The story starts just okay, but the twist at the end makes it somewhat interesting. Some people found it too short, but I felt it's just right for me and probably others who're not really into detective games. The puzzle (solving the case) was rather difficult for me, but I felt it was fair. It could use some QoL features, such as…

Hard no. Too basic. No subtitles. Terrible voice acting. Undercooked trivial answer check system. UNSKIPPABLE FULL MINUTE ENDING EVERY LEVEL WHEN YOU ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING. "Surveillance is good" messaging. Also saw an answer to an impaired person criticizing subtitle absence. The concept is solid. Walking around, getting to eavesdrop on past events to solve crimes is immediately enticing. It's too bad that it just doesn't come together at all. I can't speak to how this game is in Chinese. I only played it in English, but the English voice acting was simply bad. This wouldn't normally be something I'd spend too much time on but considering the entire game is listening to people acting, it's pretty painful. Nearly every character sounds like someone doing a bad…

This is a pretty unique detective game around the concept of listening to various conversations between different characters around the same time in order to piece together the narrative. I got pretty immersed in the game so I was disappointed when I found out some stuff about the game. The fact that the DLC explicitly makes fun of its own poor casting in the very last part is quite fitting for a game that has such poor voice acting. Does it count as self-irony or is it a cheap way to rationalize and justify the lack of quality? I guess both. In general, 'Unheard' revolves around listening to people's conversations in person or on the phone and find out who is who and whodunnit. Self-referential plots and brain twisting scenarios abound. Recommended, with caveats, for…

This is where i miss a "maybe" option as a recommendation. Unheard is a real nice concept in theory. But after the tutorial mission and the first mission i'm just exhausted. The game gives you unlimited time and needs you to move around listen to all the conversations that take place. Then you need to think well about what happened when and figure out "who dunit". But it's the same every level. I just got bored listening to the conversations. Expected something like Obra Dinn, but was…

Wanted to like Unheard more than I did, as the concept sounded really interesting and I'm a huge fan of deductive games, but it is ultimately let down by the very mechanic that makes it unique - as everything is spoken word, you unfortunately end up spending way too long listening and relistening to the same conversations, which is pretty much the opposite of compelling gameplay and ends up feeling like a waste of time. You should play Obra Dinn or one of the Golden Idol games instead.

It's a neat game mechanic, but the awful voice acting in English make me cringe too much to be able to get past it. I've tried a couple of times, but the voices are such a core part of the game, I can't get past it. Maybe if someone ever re-records the script with better actors, then I might give it another go.

A novel idea whos execution makes it get old very quickly. Maybe its the fault of the localization, but the voice acting and text are giving big "community theater" energy. The voices and accents are very broad to the point of being laughable. Another reviewer was spot-on when they aid it sounds like a radio play. But the problem is it's a very poor radio made using the vernacular of the 1940s. Which makes it come off like a Looney Tunes gangster cartoon rather than a serious crime story.

it's a nice little experiment of a detective/puzzle game, although the story is too short and the cases too random to reach conclusion of dramatic significance. I'll recommend it if you're searching for some detecting fun without a serious challenge or real depth. I bought it on 50% sale (5$) and, after completing it, wouldn't have chosen to pay more.

A very interesting take on a detective game. It's definitely worth a shot if you like solving mysteries. This game is very linear however, if that's something that is a turn-off for you. A few things I'd like it to change though: - add subtitiles - toggle echo - toggle flashing lights (something I personally struggle with due to photo sensitivity) - don't make dlc-locked achievements, wtf - make english localisations for the dlcs.

Interesting idea, but ultimately not enough to make a decent game out of it—at least not in the way it was executed. The story's not memorable and the audio mechanic doesn't really take any skill or require going through a fun gameplay mechanic. You just go through the motions and eventually you get it and that's it. One of those games I only finished because it was so short, but otherwise I probably would've dropped it.

Not doing it for me so far. The voice acting is amateurish and the writing feels pretty clunky because people need to call each other by name all the time, but the biggest problem is that the audio track is repeatedly skipping and dropping words. In the interstitial sections between missions, there are subtitles so I can still follow along, but the cases themselves are swiss cheese. Frustrating and annoying.

This is a new, refreshing take on the mystery genre. I haven't played anything else like this. It's fairly short, but each case can take a while to solve depending on how much you replay and how long you spend searching for clues. There's no subtitle option, no option to change the playback speed, and skipping at all bars some achievements. It's a shame because these are compelling mysteries and a unique format otherwise.

The writing is... very blunt. I dunno, I feel like I want a detective game to be willing to understate things a lot more than this one bothers to. If I play more and this just turns out to be something from the early cases, I'll change the review, but I don't feel like this game has the writing chops to deliver on its promise as a detective game. It might be specific to the English Translation, if I were really trying to give the game as much grace as I can, but I dunno.

A great shorter story that can be played in a few hours. Played in English. The concept is great. The writing itself is interesting at best and abysmal at worst. The plot and voice acting are both painfully awkward but the story does offer a half-explanation for it. The gameplay is next to non-existent. I don't think it's a BAD game nor a waste of time or money - but I don't think it's compelling enough to recommend. There are point and click titles that make much better crime/detective games.
