This second title of the Unhack series from InvertMouse now feature a different male protagonist who was thought to be The Creator from Smash Security. With the Motherworm and the source of the 5K Worm destroyed along with The Creator's former AI companions Perfect Weedy and Debug-squared four years ago, the protagonist was shocked to find an army of AI clones resembling Weedy to appear together with a mysterious masked AI launching simultaneous attacks throughout in cyberspace and in the…

The first Unhack was one of the first visual novels I’ve played on Steam. I really like Invert Mouse, their games are enjoyable and you can see how much effort they put on them. I’ve been waiting for this game for some time now, and let me say, it was worth the wait. The art style is fantastic, and there’s this nostalgic feeling regarding the first game in terms of story and BGM. This visual novel is basically kinetic (no choices, you only read) featuring mini games. They were somewhat easy,…

A surprisingly good sci-fi visual novel about AI companions, Unhack 2 weaves a complex story that touches on social/philosophical issues regarding the nature of artificial intelligence and their relationship with humans, while at the same time having heartfelt moments and memorable characters. That's an impressive feat for a VN that is only about 5 hours long. If you do give Unhack 2 a try, I highly recommend going through Unhack 1 first as it will give you a good amount of background and…

Welcome back, dear unhacker Love this game, Invert Mouse did a fantastic job with the story. The story is a beautiful continuation of the original Unhack. It has an amazingly unseen twist, a very satisfying twist at that. There is a very funny homage to an old Windows OS assistant, that we all know and love to hate. We see familiar faces from the original Unhack and even though they're the same faces you can see the change in them. The new characters are fantastic each with an interesting…

I've got a real soft spot for InvertMouse's VN's; they get so many things right in terms of the stuff that counts; good characterisation, plotting and pacing that the shallower areas (like the superfluous mini-games and occasional recycled graphical elements) don't really register. The big shift from Unhack 1 is that this game is a full fledged VN (as opposed the the light-arcade hybrid of the original). There are still a series of 'hacking' minigames which equate to moving a box around a grid…

In terms of game play it was great, I loved the puzzles and I wish there where more puzzles to be honest so the focus wasn't on the story. I also wished there was a log so I could read back on things the characters had said. Spoilers for the next part because it's going to be focusing mainly on the story. Alright so the game starts you off as the creator which makes sense, you're fighting a new bad guy with a new ai. If the story had continued on that path then I would of been happy and this…

Intro: When I joined Steam in 2012, my first attempt at VNs (visual novels) and A.I. storytelling was Analogue- A Hate Story and Hate Plus. I discovered Unhack shortly thereafter and I can say with certainty that InvertMouse's series is the more accessible of the two. Both make my list for VNs that I would recommend to newcomers, but if they approach this after being introduced to anime or manga, Unhack is better choice and Unhack 2 has significant improvements. Pros: The first narrative…

If you played the first Unhack and want more, definitely consider getting this one. The puzzles play second fiddle to the story this time, but I loved it nevertheless. Fairly simple and not too hard, and move-based this time (enemies move based on your movement, ala Chocobo's Dungeon 2) Also, could never have seen that plot twist coming. Well played, Invertmouse. P.S. - this game has a "costume mod" for Neonya. ;)

Unhack 2 is a very different game from the orginal, while the first was 50% Gameplay seemlessly meshed with 50% story, This game is 5% gameplay sprinkled in with 95% story. That said, It's a work of art I can't recomend enough to fans of the original. I don't dare spoil a thing, but I will offer a fair warning: This isn't a brief afair like the orginal. It's a deeply touching and emotional work featuering themes of technology, love, family, humanity and the soul. But still, I believe every…

Solid game, took about 3.5 hours to complete. Much more story-focused than the first game, with less actual gameplay, but more dialogue. The general atmosphere and tone is much heavier, too, with less joking around. Personally, I preferred the lighter tone of the first game, but this is still a great game.

First thing's first, I have been looking forward to this game for about a year. I love inverted mouse's works. That beening said, I don't buy every game from them only about half of theirs on steam and some dlcs. Now to begin, the story is a solid one with a few plot twists. It has more content than the first game, like InvertedMouse said it's five times as long. However, unlike the first game it doesn't have voice acting, so you can't sit back & relax on auto play. Unhack 2 is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction…

I have mixed feelings about this game. There is a massive amount of care put into it. The artwork and overall presentation have been dramatically improved from the first game. The story handles contemporary and potentially uncomfortable themes without preconceptions. The music is suitable and sets the tone nicely for each scene. The inclusion of retro art styles that are tied into the story is glorious (to me at least). What is the issue then? The writing... It can be VERY cringy at times.…

What a ride! The first Unhack was inexperienced and rough around the edges, but Unhack 2 improved all the best parts tenfold. The cast expanded, the plot matured, and the art is so crisp and fresh in every shot. The only real con is that the story's on the short side, but it still kept me interested all the way through. Definitely a fantastic product!

Unhack 1 was a really interesting VN which involved the player more with a unique puzzle mechanic. Unhack 2 follows through with a more in-depth story than the first, and I appreciated the continuation of the puzzle mechanic despite hearing the possibility of them being taken out. The story itself makes the game really worth playing as it goes into detail about how AI work in the Unhack universe, which really adds depth to events you play through and characters you interact with.

I really enjoyed the story, and how it moved forward from the events in the first game. Parts of the story really make you think about technology and A.I., in regards to how fast and advance things are becoming. The sequel focused more on story than the minigame puzzles, but I am fine with that. I also really enjoyed the music too. Overall, I say that if you liked Unhack, you'll have fun with Unhack 2.

Definitely enjoyed it, would love to see another continuation! I don't want to talk too much about the plot though, as there's a bit of a twist maybe ten or fifteen minutes in that was really interesting and set the tone for the rest of the game. Apologies in advance if this review comes off as a bit dry because of that. As for the bulk of it, the art was great, the story was engaging, the characters were likeable and memorable and the music was definitely a nice step up. The puzzle gameplay…

I played the first game a few years back, thinking it was just some cheap visual novel with a few puzzles, but I was pleasantly surprised by how good both the gameplay and the story was. To me, the soundtrack, voice acting, story, and gameplay was superb, and worth the price of the game. The story punches just as hard as the first game and dlc did.... It plays nothing like the original game though, kiss the gameplay with dialog goodbye for a more traditional visual novel expirence with bits of really easy gameplay sprinkled in. I personally despise this change, but the story still holds its own.

This is not a happy game. It's story is deep, if a bit preachy at times, with a resolution you may see coming, and a finally that is both earned but bittersweet. There are less puzzles this time around, only about 10 in total, all single screen. And you can skip any of them to move right along without penalty. The focus here is the story, and it's a good one (even if the main character isn't that interesting. I'd rather have been in the shoes of ClipClip than this drag, but I understand the…

While Unhack 2 is a small game, I loved playing it. Visual style and dialogs are very nice, story is good (although quite sad) - it was interesting for me to read it to the end. Arcade-style challenges from the first game are replaced by small puzzles that fit nicely into the gameplay. And I sure hope Unhack 3 is coming - the creator of Eraser must pay!

This is much more of a visual novel than the previous Unhack. Lots of story occasionally interrupted by short, relatively easy puzzles, much the same as one of Invert Mouse's other productions: Bermuda. Unlike both Bermuda and Unhack 1, I am disappointed to say that Unhack 2 contains no voice acting. Even so, it was quite the emotional rollercoaster all the way through. The story of this game is vastly improved compared to Invert Mouse's other titles that I have played thus far. It's no secret…

Enjoyable? Yes, more then the original. Worth it's regular price? It is on the edge. Compared to Unhack the game is more story-orientated and the story is a little deeper, gracing some of the fears of AI and augmentation which make the story more enjoyable. The length of the game is reasonable, took me 3 hours including a short brake or two. But just as with Unhack I do feel that the puzzles are not at their full potential.

There are things you should understand if you come across an InvertMouse visual novel, its emotional, its very emotional but not very long. IM is quickly becoming a masterclass when it comes to the short visual novel format and this is a perfect reflection of that. Play Unhack 1 first. You'll appreciate this sequel and its characters much, much more. Unhack 2 is the sequel to the puzzle/VN hybrid to InvertMouse's first Unhack. While it still contains puzzles, they are much less of a focus this time around. So much less, in fact, that you can skip them entirely. I wouldn't recommend doing so, though. Unhack 2 is a direct sequel to Unhack but there are completely new main characters now. How does it compare and is it worth getting? Let's check it out. Unhack is a puzzle game with some brief visual novel parts while the new title is the opposite: a visual novel with occasional puzzle. I can't say for sure whether the story length is five time the previous one but it is definitely longer. It has a length of a short VN, I would say about 6-8h worth of reading at normal pace. It's... alright. It's a lot more of an actual novel than the first one. Much better, too, although it certainly has flaws in the writing (in particular, conversations take way longer than they should, because the protagonist-narrator has opinions on EVERYTHING). In any case, I think it's pretty simple: if you liked the first game, this is better. But it's not a game you play without playing the first. (First game's DLC can be skipped though.)

What a ride. Up until Chapter ~4, Unhack 2 manages to be overwhelmingly mediocre, being a strange sci-fi romp, if you go in blind - or being a failure as a sequel to Unhack 1 on all accounts: no characters are voiced, characters are less expressive & move less than they do in the first game, gameplay is much more sparse & simplified, the plot is boring & superficial, while also having almost nothing to do with the prequel. Sooo... it's a 3h game. It has a lot of plot twists and a "good" ending. The "minigames" are fine ( a little bit easy). I liked how the game shows some of the big questions about AI (like death or free will). Buying this game (if you don't have this genre) is worth it ;)

Gameplay during the unhacking sequences has also changed. It's much more puzzle-focused, rather than requiring fast reflexes like the other games in the series. Enemies only move…
