positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So first let me say this game does a really nice job of not putting a ton of stupid jumpscares in its arsenal of frights, and instead relies heavily on a mix of general creepiness and in your face horror. The reason for me not recommending this is the actual gameplay. There is an overreliance on finding the 1 object you need in a fairly large world that causes you to wander... and wander... and wander. I wish the game found a way to direct you a bit more. After a while being lost stops…

Unforgiving - A Northern Hymn, this is a horror game made by students from Sweden who became a team @angrydemonstudio.bsky.social and made this game in 2017. You guys are great! The game is really atmospheric. I want to be friends with you as game developer
unlabelledView post →Apsulov: End of Gods brought me here. Unforgiving - A Northern Hymn is a great horror/mystic Walking simulator, Extremely Dark and Spooky with an immersive atmospheric experience. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short but worthwile. Unforgiving manages to strike a nice balance between exploration, puzzles, tense atmosphere, and decent to great visuals while also creating some truly unique moments. The Swedish devs are clearly big nerds about Norse / Scandinavian myths and folklore, and their passion for the topic translates well into the game. Comparatively, the story is a bit of a letdown. The game sets up a few plot points, only to never come back to them or properly resolve them and even does a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am in love with this game. It creeped my out the whole time, the atmosphere is great, the environment is well made. I was not prepared for what was gonna happen in the story at all. I really recommend if youre looking for a great horror game with unexpected twists. I am now also obsessed with swedish folklore and nordic mythology. The only thing i would be a bit critical about is that it was a bit of too much walking. But its fine, as i said the environment and atmosphere made it good.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good stuff. Not much you can do, just walk, run, crouch, light matches and interacte. But imo not what this game is about, it's all about the atmosphere and vibes. And it delivers plenty of that. The forest, later on the mine, combined with that outstanding sound design, I was on the edge of my seat most of the time. Odin's knowledge is awesome, wish there was more of it. No technical issues of any kind. Full price is maybe a little too much since it is very short. Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: - Atmosphere - Music - Harp gameplay mechanic was unique - 2nd portion of the game in the caves was legit scary - Swedish voice acting seemed fine Cons: - TOO F***ING DARK - You don't get matches until much too far into the game. Turning up gamma only helps so much... - 1st portion of the game was a little too open and in combination with the darkness it led to much confusion even with the map given. - Some backtracking was frustrating because you'd have to walk quite a ways to go back…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh. The map is kind of confusing as there is no clear landmarks or indicators to show you where to go. The chase sections while not understanding where to go made it even worse. Can we at-least agree chase sections in horror games are terrible 99% of the time?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This games got more twist and turns then a gravel road. I loved it. It was nice to see a genre that feels relatively untouched in horror get addressed. Pros: - Good Atmosphere - A compelling story with an ending I did NOT expect - Fun little secrets to explore. Cons: - At points feels like a walking sim and lacks good direction. - The instrument is the main item but feels like an after thought in some aspects. - I feel like there was more potential for in game story development that us used…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished the game, very impressive what this small team of developers has accomplished! I don't play that much horror games, but this one with it's inspiration from Swedish folklore was something I from start to end really enjoyed! 1. The first half of the game is a horror player's dream come true: dark spacious forest, very subtle exposure to horrors, long periods of anticipation culminating in bursting moments of action. Top stuff. 2. The second half is a slog where all the regular…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Run around in the woods forever with a harp that some naked guy wants while getting whispered at. Also Trolls, squiggle head guy, and naked hippie lady screaming while chasing you. I won't ruin what passes for a story in this game, in case you want to play it, but it's not fun at all. A Northern Hymn is a walking simulator. It relies on creepy whispering and jump scares (lame) to make it spooky, I guess? I didn't find it spooky at all. I was chased by a troll (3 times...), whispered at a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game lacks excitement. The beginning is very well done. Having the protagonist in the back of a car and bound, kicking the driver and then starting walking on foot in the middle of the night in an unfamiliar forest is a stunning idea. However, the beginning 3 mins might also be the most exciting moment in my 1 hour game experience. Coming next are long walks, sometimes in the dark. The reason I find the gameplay boring is that not many things happen, and the walking speed is painfully slow…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played Unforgiving for 2.8 hours until I finished the game once. I was skeptic at first but then i read in a previous comment that you can finish this game pretty fast so I gave it a try. Even though i didn't got catpured or killed once so i think i missed some of the stronger visual parts. Yes its mostly railroading from one point to another but for me that was working pretty good this time. It's been a tense way of railroading. Anyway, I liked the way this game gives you the vibe that…

unlabelledView post →I *think* I made this one after watching a walkthrough of the indie game "Unforgiving: a Northern Hymn", which is a puzzle/survival horror/fantasy game with Norse mythology.
unlabelledView post →'Unforgiving - A Northern Hymn' is a 2017 horror game and the debut game from the small little Swedish indie developers Angry Demon Studio. What we have here is a horror game rooted in Nordic Mythology, especially the Swedish kind. And it's pretty well done for being "kiddies first game". Needless to say it's a bit rough around the edges and you can clearly see that it's a studios first game. That said the core idea behind the game it is solid although not groundbreaking in any way. Since…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite having tried the game previously and stopped, I finally managed to play it from start to finish now. What can I say, In my opinion this game does the job of player immersion, and it also manages to be scary. This is a great recipe for horror games, but for some reason I didn't like it. So I cannot recommend it. It is just not my kind of game obviously, because I didn't enjoy it at all. But if you, unlike me, like running and losing yourself in pitch black darkness with only matches…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most terrifying and interesting horror games i´ve played and I like that it´s based on Swedish folklore as i´m Swedish myself
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a fantastic horror game that kept me on the edge of my seat. It had high quality sound design, creative monster design, sufficient lore to keep me hooked, and well timed jump scares. I play a lot of horror games, but this one was really refreshing. 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The atmosphere in this one is incredible, great blend of music, menacing sounds & lurking enemies. Play it with the lights out and with headphones. Quite short but highly recommend to get it on sale - ideally as a bundle with apsulov.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like this game. It's a game you can easily beat in 3hrs and it's spooky. The sounds and music alone in this game keeps you on high alert. I found myself at times freaking out and running to find out it I was just being a scardy cat. The end of the game is the part that just gets really creepy but maybe thats me, demon babies just don't sit well with me. Love the game! Must play. 5/5
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played "Unforgiving - A Northern Hymn" because after "Bramble - The Mountain King" I was craving more Nordic folklore in my horror games. I was happy to see Huldra and Näcken again as I enjoyed them as villains in Bramble and I was not disappointed with them in Unforgiving. I enjoyed this game a lot. It had a great balance between panic inducing parts and a calm but eerie atmosphere. I loved learning about the different creatures and stories and even got the digital art book to get more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Apsulov brought me here. Liked Apsulov, went to see what else have these guys made and found this. I'm giving a thumbs up, because there's no such thing as neutral option, and negative wouldn't suit it either. The story is good. Love old myths and folklore, and although this one is very short and graphics are quite crude, the creepy and tense atmosphere is something I think many bigger horror games often lack. Many have complained about the shortness of the game, but seems to me it's one of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Truly an amazing experience, especially if you love myths and legends! Great idea, executed pretty decent, and bare in mind that this game on sale is 1€ so there is no way you will ever regret buying it! The game is not that long but if you immerse yourself in it you will definitely spend more hours than what is written in HLTB, trust me. - You play as a girl lost in the Northern forests, trying to escape alive and unveil the curse that has been brought upon her * Great music, lovely details,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, an extremely amateurish game. This game is in no way scary or spooky -- it is just tedious & annoying. Graphically and technically, the game is extremely poor. The environments are so unnecessarily large that you will struggle to figure out where to go or what to do. There are a handful of enemies, but you can only really run away & hope the broken AI will forget about you after a long chase. This game is so much a massive disappoint considering I adored the studio's other game --…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →honestly, a really good experience. a nice long story, good pieces of lore dropped around for the people brave enough to go digging for it, perfect atmosphere. really good, 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good game. About 3hours long, got a lot of good scares. The concept of the story is good, but the story itself is just alright not the best imo. But recommandable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I absolutely loved Apsulov: End Of Gods, this title just wasn't very fun and I wasn't nearly as invested in the story as I was for Apsulov.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nice interesting short horror game i did not encounter with any bugs everything work fine. it is not AAA game but it will do the job. try this https://store.steampowered.com/app/960980/Apsulov_End_of_Gods/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another top Scandinavian folk horror game, in the same vein as Northern Journey and Through the Woods, although I preferred this to both of those. Typical first-person horror game where the bulk of the game involves creeping around or running for your life, the rest of the time you're reading notes, solving item puzzles and wandering around at night in the woods. It would be so damn cool if the harp/lyre could be played manually, it's one of the things which made this game stand out to me and…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I fell in love with Swedish Folklore recently due to the masterpiece that is 'Bramble: The Mountain King'. This game does a decent job on delivering the suspense and horror elements. It's a nice experience. Due to it's length and limited gameplay, (yes, it's more of a walking simulator, but a good one- mind you!) I would recommend this game on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not gonna lie. I loved this horror game. Although perhaps not as challenging and a little more like a horror walking sim, anything that dives into mythology is going to be an instant fav of mine. Some puzzles were a little tough, but that is mostly cause I wasn't always paying attention -- however, I loved the dark themes, the survival, and although the ending wasn't the best, it beats majority of standard horror game endings. All in all, I loved it, and I would recommend it for anyone…

Run and hide from each dangerous creature, while using a magic harp to open up more of the world. Easily one of my all time favourites, I want more horror games with musical mechanics.
unlabelledView post →I came for folklore in a dark forest, and Unforgiving delivered. Short but memorable. The first and last parts are linear and underwhelming, but the middle is open-ended and captivating.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hell yeah swedish nightmares! great, really scary, game. also a fun 100%
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i was caught off guard by this game and was blown away by the immersive and atmospheric experience. The game's stunning graphics and haunting soundtrack set the perfect tone for the horror that unfolds. The controls are smooth and the gameplay is intense and suspenseful. The story is intriguing and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. This game is a must-play for fans of the horror genre. It's a truly unforgiving and unforgettable experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's alright, not the scariest game i have played but it kept me on the edge of my seat. 5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm happy I got to play this with a playtime of 3hrs, this is a solid fun game. Some of the jumpscares did indeed get me but overall the game keeps you drawn in with its amazing audio design. Definitely give it a try, hope you survive the eerie forest.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unforgiving - A Northern Hymn, developed and published by Angry Demon Studio, is a horror experience that distinguishes itself not through sheer intensity or constant jump scares, but through a deeply rooted sense of place and cultural identity. Drawing heavily from Swedish folklore, the game immerses players in a world that feels ancient, mysterious, and quietly hostile. From the outset, it becomes clear that this is not a typical survival horror setting—there are no overused monsters or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →She needs to survive through some horrifying Scandinavian Folklore, good luck! 🫶 Unforgiving: a Northern Hymn store.steampowered.com/app/747340/U...
unlabelledView post →A great, fairly linear horror game with some simple puzzles. Tense atmosphere, and engaging story, awesome scares. Swedish folklore goes nuts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wish I could recommend this one, but most of the time the game was just boring. Lots of walking without much going on or very mild attempts to "scare" the player that don't really work. There was one actually tense chase scene near the end, but it was probably the only interesting part in the game. I tend to be a bit less critical towards foreign-made indie games since it can just be fun to learn the lore of another culture even if the horror doesn't work out, but I didn't really find the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SOUND DESIGN AND VOICE ACTING IS REALLY GOOD i enjoy the jump scares and the sound queues of another jump scare hahaha
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ unique experience, Swedish folklore + the visuals still work out due to setting + the story is neat + soundscape works well +/- I have heard from people who know that the spoken Swedish has a noticable Stockholm dialect. Not really a good or a bad thing, albeit with the setting I would expect a different regional dialect. - not really replayable - there is a forced death to advance the story at one point
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up the this game because of the mythology related part of the story and to be honest I was disappointed. The main character barely connects to the mythology part at all. It's about a woman that randomly finds herself in a forest with Norse folklore horrors after her brother tries to "abduct" her. The map is dark and open which is a prerequisite for tiresome backtracking if you decide to look around/stray from the main path. For a walking simulator you'd expect at least to have a good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Walking sim with the lights turned out. Certain parts are scary certain parts are derpy. Music was good in some chapters and then weak when the giant comes out when you have to unlock the gates. The children remind me of the feeders skinny creepy things. Game can be finished quick if you dont die or get stuck on a puzzle like i did. Game-Play unlocks 8-3-25 https://youtu.be/aOsidY9Q2Js
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →surprisingly good .. there are elements that 'dont work' very well for generating scares, and these are a nice break from the highly scary moments in the game. the story is really effective, though i played it with non-English narration, so i can't speak for the English dub. i liked the ending.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game about swedish folklore. loved being chased by a naked woman 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting, I liked most of the creature designs and it was interesting to see myths and fairytales from a culture that isn't often seen here in the US. I wish I could have seen more of the game, as I was in rush mode the entire time, unsure of where enemies were and if I would run out of matches (which was mute, I had so many freaking matches). The last 2 segments of the game were very frustrating though as it seemed to be luck based or just guessing at what I needed to do.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A quick 3 hour first person horror experience. It was short, and didn't overstay its welcome. Runs more then fine. Worth your money.
