"I want to play Auntie's game." I don't know why I called Lara Croft my auntie, but I did. Today we'll be reviewing Auntie's game, kids. In fact, a lot of my childhood memories revolve around 'the REAL Lara Croft,' as I have to call her now to differentiate her from Square Enix's stock protagonist. At the time, Lara was a celebrity - an…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tomb Raider I is a game that, even decades after its release, still rewards curiosity. I started the game again earlier this year because you can now play it in virtual reality with motion controls, which I definitely wanted to try! (You can play it in VR via this program: https://sidequestvr.com/app/38086/beef-raider-xr-tomb-raider-in-vr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAeUgiz7XjE&list=PLGsOL4SfL-mMDbmEA3Tz6heVo2f7US594 This is the beginning of the franchise, where you play as Lara Croft, an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Please do not play the Steam standard version. It runs via DOSBox, has no Controller Support, poor graphics, etc. I tried three different enhanced versions and played through the game with each Version OpenLara , LostArtefacts/TRX , and CroftEngine Overall LostArtefacts/TRX is the best. CroftEngine has the best graphics, but is less accurate. OpenLara is very buggy; enemies get stuck in the level architecture. I cannot recommend it. So its TRX for me but Croft Engine is also good.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ahh, Tomb Raider, the British classic from the 90s. And the character Lara is so iconic today that there are few people in the world who haven't heard of her. The game was released for MS-DOS at the time and is installed with a bundled Dos Box. For those who don't know, this is an MS DOS emulator for Windwos. Unfortunately, it cannot be played on Linux. And it brings the typical issues with MS-DOS Games: Compressed MIDI Soundtracks, no joypad configuration (although i played with a key binding…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OG Tomb Raider absolutely slaps. Played it for the first time in 2024 and yup, it holds up. In fact, this game from 1996 affords the player much more freedom of movement when compared to basically any modern AAA release. Navigation is not a mindless activity here, but a challenge in and of itself. If you`re curious to try it out (do it), a few PSAs: This release runs on DOS Box and it`s not great - the color palette is all weird, the cutscenes look bad and there`s missing music. You can…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nostalgia is a reward for getting old. Something only those of us who went first and experienced first are gifted with. For those of us who bought this from the store on a CD-ROM and installed it on DOS or Windows 95, it's a journey back to pure nostalgia. It feels akin to discovering a treasure, reminiscent of adventures only our generation, raised on 90s gaming, can truly appreciate. A treasure found and gifted by Croft herself.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A groundbreaking classic that introduced gamers to Lara Croft and the thrill of exploring ancient tombs in 3D. The puzzles are clever, the atmosphere is moody, and while the tank controls feel clunky today, there’s still a real sense of adventure and discovery. It’s rough around the edges, but undeniably iconic.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →for boomers only. Don't listen to the nostalgia, game sucks
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who's played a lot of iconic titles like Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Indiana Jones and even Ratchet & Clank and many others, I have to say there's something special about the original Tomb Raider that hits differently. Sure, the graphics are dated, and it's not as polished as some of the newer games, but there's a certain magic to it. You can feel the history in every pixel - the way Lara Croft moved, the puzzles, the exploration - it laid the foundation for the entire genre we…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its the og, you should mod it, coredesign has a website where you can do so.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It works, barely. Terrible pixel-perfect platforming, with delayed inputs makes for a nightmare of a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →—Tomb Raider review— Rating: 10/10 The 1996 original that started it all. I normally keep my reviews short and simple to give a basic idea of what the game has to offer, but this deserves an ultimate review. Tomb Raider revolutionized gaming by introducing Lara Croft—one of the most iconic characters ever—and blending action-adventure, precise platforming, and puzzles into a groundbreaking 3D experience that inspired countless successors. Even nearly 30 years later, it remains genuinely fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nothing plays quite like Tomb Raider, not even the sequels, thhis game is as much as a puzzle game as it is an adventure game. I love it so much, and not just because of nostalgia, games like this don't get published nowadays. 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're like me and not interested in installing yet another source port that may or may not be faithful to the vanilla game, I recommend using "Tomb Raider Automated Fix" This will patch up the game to run natively in windows, restore music and other things from the playstation version and add the Unfinished Business expansion, all in situ so it still just runs from the original steam installation directory and boots from steam with a nice clean launcher too. You can use steam input to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ignore Playtime, I used TombATI which bypassed steam Tomb Raider 1 is an enjoyable classic, containing a good mix of puzzles, adventure, and action. There are plenty of secrets to find, and the graphics, while dated, are perfectly fine, as everything has a distinct look. Each level can vary in the amount of time it takes. I usually averaged around 40-60 minutes as I often took time investigating many nooks for health or ammo. The game runs okay out of the box. Still, I recommend TombATI, which…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 game. Original Lara with triangle boobs is the REAL strong female character. Without question.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tomb Raider (1996), or just Tomb Raider I, is a very interesting game. The game is a mixture of two parts: puzzle precision platforming, and third person adventure. While the latter holds up actually pretty well, the former ends up tainting the experience. For clarification, I played this game using TRX1 – an open-source reimplementation of Tomb Raider 1, which means I got to experience the game with improved performance, graphics and features such as an on-demand quick save and quick load.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's called Tomb Raider. You enter tombs and raid them.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shows its age but the atmosphere and level design are impressive for the time. Lara is iconic and the sense of exploration is genuinely great. Clunky controls but part of the charm.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't have nostalgia eyes, I never played this at release although I am old enough to. I was 9 when it came out (I'll let you do the math). Remapping ctrls is essential, wasd for direction, f for holster, i for inventory, g for look, and p for action was enough for me. Movement and gameplay is clunky, but once you've gotten the hang of it, its just another puzzle to be solved. Game is dripping with atmosphere, combat is disappointing. The game is mentally draining, with spiky hits of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tomb Raider is a single player Sega Saturn game. You are a globe trotting explorer, alone and isolated, forced to navigate and survive various places like tombs, crypts, jungles, and more. Armed with a pair of pistols and only very occasional save points, Lara Croft faces off against all the perils one can imagine. The game is a masterpiece of it's time. The controls are antiquated now, but there is an art to them that fans appreciate still. "Tank Controls" are kind of a game to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What on Earth, I've been easily played 50 games and I can barely make sence of the controls of this one. This is not a difficulkt game, but as I'm not used to the controls, it is one: SPACE to access weapons hold down ALT to jump CTRL to collect items or grab onto ledges Numpad to move NUM 5 to turn 360 Hold down SHIFT to walk (needed for platforming) Hold down ALT to jump and then press left or right to jump sideways (dodging)

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is where the franchise truly began... and all games are popular and playable to this day Lara Croft. Like a female version of Indiana Jones, with a few differences. With her pale blue top, brown shorts, hiking boots and iconic backpack and dual pistols, Lara is often portrayed as having a smart mouth, dry wit and a distinct lack of interest in things like fame and money. She has inherited a large estate called the Croft Manor, lives alone (not counting the butler), and typically isn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a bad port using dosbox and requires modifications. If you're looking for the nostalgic classic trilogy, take a look at Tomb Raider I-III Remastered. Includes controller support.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really loved this game BUT I had to do some modding bc the steam version of this have some errors I downloaded this mod to fix it the link: https://tombraidervault.com/automated-fix-improved-graphics-resolution-music-expansion-pack/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pretty ancient at this point but it's still a blast if you can get to grips with the controls. Lots of great puzzles with a mix of slightly annoying trial and error areas. The combat is extremely basic but Lara auto targets enemies and combat is a small slice of the game, so it's not terrible. Overall I had a fun time with my first playthrough but the ending does drag on a little for me personally.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 Peak. If you hear people complaining about the controls or the outdated graphics, they are wusses. Just letting you know. You are not a wuss, so trust me, it is peak.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic! The game as it is doesn't work very well and crashed a lot for me. Install the "Automated Fix - Improved Graphics, Resolution, Music + Expansion Pack" found in the Community Hub and this game plays wonderful with modern resolutions and upscaled cutscenes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →do not judge this game by modern standards. this is one of the most important video games of all time, and the steam port is terrible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic game but controls very poorly on keyboard and runs very poorly on pc. Very few of the classic tomb raiders titles hold up especially with keyboard input and I'd fully recommend the remastered trilogy for the early games.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very challenging and entertaining!! A must play for people who like third-person action games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →at this point, just get the remaster, or play anniversary, or just wait for the remake that comes out in a year

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tomb Raider, developed by Core Design and originally released in 1996, remains one of the most influential and recognizable action-adventure games of all time. It marked a turning point in the medium by bringing 3D exploration, cinematic storytelling, and a strong central protagonist together into a cohesive and ambitious package. Players step into the boots of Lara Croft, an intrepid British archaeologist hired to recover the mysterious Scion of Atlantis. What begins as a simple expedition…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all, it runs on dosbox emulator, idk if it's still available for purchase but the remaster already released. I think it might be a good idea to check it first. Whenever I go out of fullscreen for any reason (e.g. xbox home button) it crashes the game, Save system is good, also No Autosave. Now for the gameplay, The game is fun, difficult platforming, no hand-holding, secrets, The story is also intriguing with good enemy types, and good locations. the other weapons are rewarding with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While a classic game I can't really recommend this version. It doesn't run well out of the box and requires a little tinkering. Buy the remaster or the GOG version with the HD patch. This will do in a pinch on a stellar sale or if you want to keep your games in one place.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do recommend this, because it's fun, but with a big caveat. This game has a lot of platforming and it uses tank controls. It is not very easy to get into if you're used to modern games. But if you have the patience to get used to the controls the game is a ton of fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game just gets stuck after the intro movie and nothing worked for me to get it running. A HARD PASS! Sad... I REALLY wanted this to work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this just cause my grandpa wouldnt let me play this on his pc when i was 5 , but 20 years later and i finally understand why. good game, if your a gamer who enjoys the old games or like me, grew up with them, youll probably enjoy it. This game is not for the faint of heart as the gameplay is OLD

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There will never be anything like this game. Tomb Raider is an all time classic that will never get old so long as there are people out there who still enjoy art and exploration. This game was a masterclass of 3D exploration combined with Nathan McCree, one of the greatest composers in the industry. Tomb Raider starts with our adventurer-explorer Lara Croft, who gets approached by a mercenary known as Larson to find the Scion artefact buried in the tomb of Qualopec. The one who actually hires…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is where it all began. Tomb Raider is a magnificient game. I'm not discovering much. I will talk about the levels without spoiling more than the basic plot and areas you visit. Lara Croft starts her debut contacted by a woman called Natla, to find a rare artifact called the scion. A very Indiana Jones premise. The first levels are set in Peru, you raid old temples and hidden valleys. It's starts with tutorialized simple levels until the 3rd one, where the first big surprise of the…
