It may not be perfect or groundbreaking, but it’s an adventure game with a surprisingly engaging story. If you're a fan of the genre and can overlook some clunky controls and dated visuals, it's a solid experience worth checking out.

If your game doesn't start when I press play then that's an automatic thumbs down. Seems like this issue has been around for over a decade. I found a thread from 2013 that talks about the issue, and this game came out in 2012. The devs clearly didn't care about fixing it. The way I fixed the issue is at the bottom of this review. Once I got the game working, I enjoyed the story. I got stuck a few times and needed a guide because I was missing a single clue that prevented me from progressing.…

here's my problem with this game: on one hand it's definitely inspired by Soviet Sherlock Holmes, but on the other hand it's trying to reach a western audience, and it seems like it fails at both. maybe i'm wrong. but there is a nice feel-good, warm mood in this game anyway. so it deserves a try

I've been on a Sherlock Holmes binge... playing 3 in a row, from newer (Awakened Remastered) to older (Crimes & Punishments), to still older (Testament). It's been fun to see the (reverse) progression and I've enjoyed all three games. I think I liked Testament the most. Despite a complicated find and use segment at the end, it is a great story and, for a game published 12 years ago, still wonderful to play. The graphics are less crisp than the newer titles but the writing is good, the voice…

I was able to finish the game without any crashes! maybe because I have a potato pc at the moment :D I found the gameplay mechanics a bit rigid in my opinion for a detective game, everything is almost focused on interacting with the environment with very little thinking and deduction. The story is interesting and coherent but you have to try to finish the game quickly otherwise you lose the course of events. There is a lot of puzzles too much maybe.. and sometimes they are frustrating and you…

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is an old and slightly janky detective game which works on a long case. The story is really fun to follow, puzzles were fun and satisfying to solve, even though some of them were rather difficult. This game is still playable in 2024 and still really fun. Definitely recommended for detective game lovers!

I try to play the frogware sherlock games in order and after 'Jack the Ripper' which was the first acceptable game in the franchise (and actually good), I came to this game with lots of hope. Oh boy was I wrong. First thing I noticed is that it's more a walking simulator than anything. You have very little freedom and with few exceptions, the exploration sequences are a long corridor. But why not. I'm not against playing a movie game if it's cozy. And this Sherlock game has rather nice lowpoly…

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is a more linear detective adventure with a darker tone, focusing on a single, long mystery rather than separate cases. It leans more on storytelling and atmosphere than on pure deduction. It does feel a bit dated today, both in pacing and mechanics, but it’s still alright overall. The story is engaging enough, and there are some interesting investigative moments along the way. It may not be the strongest entry in the series, but it’s still worth experiencing…

🕵️‍♂️ A Gripping Mystery Worth Investigating! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (9/10) The Testament of Sherlock Holmes is a masterclass in detective storytelling. From the moment I stepped into 19th-century London, I was hooked by the dark, atmospheric setting and the morally complex narrative. This isn't your typical Holmes tale—it's grittier, more personal, and full of twists that kept me guessing until the very end. The puzzles are clever and varied, striking a great balance between challenge and…

The fact that the kids in the intro say that Sherlock is their grandfather implies that Sherlock has had sex at some point which lets be honest, that ain’t happening Other than that the game’s whatever. It can get really really tedious sometimes but I liked the environments and early game 5/10

My read was correct. The sixth Sherlock Holmes game created by Frogwares is a major turning point in the franchise. We have a new character model and voice actor for the man, himself. This version of Holmes is darker than the previous games. The new voice actor is very intense and sounds almost sinister. His performance matches Holmes' rudeness and willingness to outright lie to people. Dr. Watson's voice actor hasn't changed and he continues to perfectly provide an emotional contrast…

A- I've been playing Frogwares games since the beginning and they always put themselves one step above their prior releases. I've been playing them all in release chronology and I was a big fan of the structure of Crimes and Punishment but did miss the bigger story arcs. Fortunately, Testament delivers on that supremely. I caught onto the plot twist pretty early but the ending ending, I did not and it was very worth it. The older Frogwares adventures can be a bit wonky in terms of…

Testament of Sherlock Holmes What works well: • Investigation mechanics: Searching for clues and connecting dots feels satisfying and clever. • Story depth: A heavier, more intricate mystery that actually makes you care about what’s happening. • Dialogue & character moments: Sherlock’s dry wit and Watson’s grounded reactions add real personality. • Classics vibes: If you love gritty Sherlock lore, this scratches that fiction‑detective itch hard. Some negatives: • Clunky navigation:…

The ending credits feel like a well-earned reward for the time and patience invested throughout the journey. I highly recommend this game, particularly for fans of the series. It offers a generous range of engaging puzzle-based mini-games, a thoughtfully designed narrative, and well-written dialogue. Overall, it stands as a masterpiece of its time. Edited: I forgot to mention that this game somehow shows me how Tony is way smarter and more useful than Watson.

The controls of the game are terrible and render the game unplayable for me at least, I tried both with controller and with keyboard and mouse and nothing seem to be smooth. For example with with keyboard and mouse the movement of the camera is terribly slow and you have to move the mouse 4 times in the same direction to change directions in game, and as for the controller with the stick the moving of the camera is smooth but choosing which clue you will follow is terrible and it made me choose…

This game rocketed up to my favourite games in no time. I love the characters of Sherlock and Watson here, the Voice Acting underlining characters with depth and thought behind them to a level, I felt they actually could be real human beings. The world around felt alive with its visual design and sounds. The cases were fun and not too easy, but doable and the underlying main plot hit me like a brick. It was so well made and was weaving itself through the cases and gradually became more…

The short and sweet. Good game. Storyline: Not very straightforward. Puzzels: Excellent. Kind of an strange one in the series. Outta the gate the character controls were sluggish and awkward. It felt like a step backwards honestly, but I eventually got used to it for the most part. In this one, it was hard to tell where the storyline was heading and how things were going to match together eventually. Even Sherlock himself seemed off, maybe a bit sinister. The Testament of Sherlock Holmes offers a gripping, narrative-driven experience that delves deeply into the mind and methods of one of literature’s most iconic detectives. Unlike many other Sherlock Holmes adaptations that rely heavily on action or puzzle-heavy gameplay, this title leans into storytelling and investigation, allowing players to embody Holmes’s brilliant deductive reasoning and methodical approach to solving crime. The game presents a darker and more mature take on the character,…

really enjoyed this one; it's like they 3d-ified a point & click game and the result is a mostly cohesive and engaging level-like experience. the plot is surprisingly dark with some absolutely crazy twists, and i found the ending to be nicely done as well. though it does feature a more rudimentary version of the "mind palace" from later games, it is mostly puzzle-based. however, for those that enjoy deducing cases entirely by their own merits, this one is a bit disappointing--much of the…

As a Sherlock fan (partially because of the games), the Testament of Sherlock Holmes is good. The game follows Sherlock Holmes going through a single long case, and the story is told like the books with Watson not being fully aware of Sherlock’s plans until the end. This game does not involve as much deduction as the later games, and instead has more puzzles. The puzzles and simple exploration are fun to do. Would recommend in a heartbeat just for Sherlock and Watson's quips and bickering alone. Though it is probably not the best to play in 2026 as it sure has aged like MILK! but if you love it, get it, and gamble on if you love it even more or hate it!
