It runs just as well as it did back in the day, but you probably should install Directx 9 and whatever Microsoft service packs were around back then. It's difficult if you are impatient and don't want to read the clues and listen to the dialog. Still fun if you are looking for a puzzle game and have the patience for puzzle games. It's 2008, you are twelve years old. You are at Staples with your father and see…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An Exersise in Extreme Patience My review series of the Frogwares Holmes games continues with Nemesis, also released as Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsene Lupin. While I believe that this was the best Frogwares Holmes game to date at the time of its release, and is not without redeeming qualities, it's still a hard sell in 2022. The followup to the Cthulhu-mythos inspired game The Awakened, the Holmes series swings back away from the supernatural. In this game, the famed fictional French thief…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is without a doubt the worst Sherlock Holmes game in the whole series for me. I hate it. I hate Arséne Lupin from the bottom of my heart and I want to never ever see him again! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2932262761 Visuals are fine, but filled with a few graphic glitches like walking through a closed door. Music is of a classical genre, but as there repeat only a few tracks it can get tiresome in the long run. Voice acting remains varied between good and bad.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a good game. Graphics are pretty good for the time when this game was made. The story is interesting. But that's it. The problem with this game is the obtuse puzzles. You can't really guess any solutions or figure out (unless you've got loads of time in your hands). The lore is too long to read. All conversations are too versbose and cannot be paused. One good thing is the built-in hints system (which is infinite). I found myself using the hint system way too frequently until I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well... Mostly fine. This is a P&C / Adventure / Puzzle game. The graphics are old but nice. The music is good. The story is adequate, not the brightest thing though. Bugs, some minor things, nothing is game-breaking but save before the final stuff, just to be safe. No crashes. Overall, entertaining but frustrating at times. The puzzles go from spotting some things to pure moon logic. It is almost impossible to not look for the guide a few times (at least all the solutions are included).…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm utterly furious with this failure. Don't waste your time. Don't waste your money. Normally I don't like leaving a game unfinished but in this instance, where I was trying my utmost to discover everything by myself, without a walkthrough and without using the in-game hints, I feel cheated. The game has a sound premise, I'll give it that. I come into this game having already played (and loved) one other Sherlock title, so perhaps my expectations were high, but here I was thinking, 'This…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has good puzzles sometimes, but nearly unsolvable puzzles most of the time. I feel that a mark of a good puzzle/detective game is that all the information needed to solve the problem can be found in the game. For many (not all) this is not the case. 9.2 out of 23 "Watson, this ♥♥♥♥ is not elementary"
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sherlock Holmes - Nemesis is an ancient game from 2008. It's a whopping 16 years old at the time of this review. The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. This is a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played a few of the Sherlock Holmes games and the only one I can truly recommend is Crimes and Punishment. Nemesis is okay. I just lost interest when I found myself having to run around in search of birds to lure and catch. I know at some point I'll return to this because, even though I've given this a thumbs down, I do quite like the Sherlock Holmes games. Get it in a sale. 3/5
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →everyone are sharing the same 1 braincell in this game, and i wouldn't have it any other way. honestly just lacks a 6 hours holmes/lupin makeout session
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very difficult game no way i could do it without a guide Maybe im just dumb? XD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't enjoy this game. I tried but I didn't. It has a difficult and unclear gameplay. The best of it, it's the story but takes a lot of time to get there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Any tension between holmes and lupin is mostly implied, because actually feeling clever isn’t on the games agenda nor it's predecessors. The real crime here is how dull they managed to make a holmes vs lupin game to be. These are supposed to be evolved games from the hidden object variants yet it still feels like I am just point and clicking on everything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sherlock Holmes would NOT let Lupin make him lose so much time following increasingly long and tedious strings of riddles, so I won't, either
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes, this is the first Frogwares Sherlock Holmes game that I can confidently recommend as GOOD! Nemesis plays very similarly as The Awakened Remastered, but has better polish and smoother design. The case is much more straightforward, making it easier to follow and enjoy. The excellent stepwise hint system returns and I recommend using it. There's no reason to get stuck in an old game like this. Next up: Sherlock Holmes versus Jack the Ripper. This actually released before Nemesis…

Story: Set after the events of Sherlock Holmes The Awakened, you again step into the shoes of the worlds greatest detective Sherlock Holmes. Holmes and Watson take on smaller jobs, but find themselves cross paths with Arsene Lupin, an infamous French thief that has set his sights on five important pieces of British history that he plans to steal and you set out to stop him before he does. I really liked the story the story of The Awakened, it was the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand how the game has mostly positive reviews. Maybe people are caught in nostalgia, but this game is so bad. The puzzles are boring, repetitive, and sometimes excessively complicated (not in a good way). The story makes absolutely no sense and every character is very stupid to make it seem that Sherlock is smart. And the gameplay in general is bad, but for that, I blame the age of the game. I love puzzle games and Sherlock Holmes and I was very disappointed with this piece of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sherlock Holmes vs Riddler aka Arsène Lupin + if you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes, you are going to enjoy this + interesting story + turtles, cute dog + voice acting - few difficult puzzles - British Museum sequence find a book, find a paper, find a book, find a paper.. was really annoying and too long - saving the game in some locations didn't work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game as part of the Sherlock Holmes Collection sale, but at the time of writing, by itself it would cost 89 pence. For that very low price, and given this game brought me ~15 hours of entertainment, I'd say it's worth picking this one up on sale - perhaps not full price though. Yes, some of the puzzles were at times obtuse, and yes, it certainly has its issues - but the game has a thorough hint system should you need it. If you do decide to give it a try, I would strongly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →old game, makes me very smart or very dumb. Game logic: ✔zooms in on a giant painting ✘doesn't zoom in on the TINY letter, that is hidden in the ceiling, which you need a one use ladder for, that you get from a place, that didn't have the ladder there the entirety of the level 10/10, would lose my mind over it again :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game that was released in 2007, It looks terrible and sounds almost as bad. The gameplay is very similar to Silver Earring with the additional perks of running when double clicking and fast travel. And those two additions are the only good things to come out of this game. The story is minimal and uninteresting. The puzzles require a lot of reading and backtracking to solve. It can still be annoying difficult to move your character around since the game isn't entirely 100% responsive,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is long, really hard game. Sometimes it makes no sense. Sometimes it is illogical. Some puzzles are impossible. It has Sherlock Holmes vibes, but I could not recommend it to anyone. Story all in all is ok, graphic is ok. Audio is terrible. But all in all pick a better game for playing instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I may be stupid but this is honestly just boring even using guide that does not help much with random puzzles
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Festival of absurdities Even Sherlock Holmes would not play this game, as it defies elementary principles of logic. Admittedly, it started promising with the beautiful gallery, but when you enter the tower, abandon all hope to understand anything. A pity.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly feel trapped by this game! It's like there is no end, and the repetitive puzzles keep coming and coming! I will cry tears of joy when I finally get to the end. And will never play it again. Update: I gave up and never finished the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are so many reasons i don't recommend playing this game that i don't know where to start. So my overarching recommendation to you would be to take your 2 hour evaluation period seriously (for a potential refund) List of issues: - Performance problems on larger maps (steady stuttering on the museum level for example) - Maps are way too large (Find feather on ground in a football pitch) - Lack of cohesion between puzzles (This picture has a animal in it so now go across the map…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I can't recommend this one. I got about halfway before just deciding I had more precious things to do with my time. The bones for a decent adventure game are there but the environments are too large and the game becomes tedious. It wasn't that big of a deal in the Gallery area but once you get to the Tower it gets overwhelming. I did not care to continually walk around this big empty space trying to guess which doors were usable. There is an icon that helps with that but only at a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the concept of Sherlock Holmes and I have not played any of the other ones available. You will get used to the navigations but it's quite buggy as far as getting to progress through the steps. There is a hint button but even having uncovered each of the previous clues, it won't progress me to the next stage. I'm at an inpass.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis, also known in some regions as Sherlock Holmes versus Arsène Lupin, is a unique and ambitious entry in Frogwares’ long-standing series of detective adventure games. Released on Steam as part of the studio’s broader Holmes saga, the game departs from the gritty, murder-focused mysteries of other titles to present a more cerebral and theatrical challenge. Rather than pitting Holmes against a shadowy serial killer or a twisted crime of passion, Nemesis introduces a duel of…

Okay, guess we'll go search for the one depicting ice skaters. Probably from a Dutch painter, so I should head for- "THIS IS THE PAINTING I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!" ... and now for a paining with a white h- "THIS IS THE PAINTING I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR!" Aaaaaand this is not the game I'm looking for. Goodbye, Mr. Holmes. It seems like you'll have to 'outwit' the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic story of detective and thief rivalry always works and this time, it did a solid one for Sherlock Holmes game. The fact it gives nod to why there is no Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin in real book is also a chef kiss. The pacing is great (a few callbacks to the previous game which add some flavour to the story), the riddles are challenging, the new quality of life in gameplay and investigating; all of it are an improvement from Awakened Remastered. 10/10 and a must play Sherlock Holmes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite nice I dare say. What I liked most about this edition in the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes Series are the side-characters. They were really fun! Also, while I liked the theme/genre/whatever of the previous game (the Awakened) more its characters and the locations you went to weren’t as fun/interesting as the ones in this game. Additionally, I found the puzzles in this one much more enjoyable. Mechanically speaking I have to take a moment to praise the newfound ability to make all…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First playthrough review time. This is a remastered version of the old one and the other name for this game is( Sherlock Holmes Versus Arsène Lupin). The story is interesting, taking players to old London, where different characters are encountered. It feels like being in a Sherlock Holmes adventure. The puzzles are a bit complex and make one feel clever when finished on their own. This game isn't about action but thinking and figuring things out, much like previous installments of Sherlock…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The puzzles are annoying and repetitive and some are unnecessarily long. Overall the game felt like more of a drag and was hardly fun to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even though I love Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes series dearly (truly I do; I was thrilled when I heard the news that they're going to make Chapter One and I brought it as soon as it came out), I can't say this is a nice piece. Do not waste your time on it unless you can 1. bear very lame game modeling and 2. put up with seemingly endless and somewhat meaningless riddles. Bear in mind that this game dates back to 2008, so the game modeling is far from ideal, whether it is for the characters, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More trim than the previous entry in the series; Sherlock Holmes: the Awakened, Nemesis brings the player back to the more traditional detective mystery associated with Sherlock Holmes. Fans may appreciate the writters ability to craft a more long-established mystery formula (with a side jaunt into a story line that was a little frivolous), and enjoy Sherlock's crime solving skills. Rated 7 out of 10.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s pretty meh overall. There are good things and there are bad things. The good. 1st person and 3rd person modes work as intended. No bugs or glitches. If you’re stuck you can use the hints system and it shows you what you’ve already searched and what you haven’t. There’s also a guide which explains in detail what you need to do. The bad. Puzzles seem to drag on and on. Especially in museum and Buckingham Palace. Puzzles are also not fun. I don’t care about making some dog his food or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the complexity of puzzles and scenery has decreased a fair bit, this game is overall a huge step-up from the previous title. It has introduced a first person view, along the regular 3rd person view with a fixed camera, and is fully playable like so. This game also comes with a built in hint system, so no external guides needed even if one does get stuck. Hints can also be used to track one's progress within the stage, without revealing further steps/spoilers. It is true that the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just as good as the previous installment of the series, The Awakened (2008). It makes for a nice follow-up to that game, though you could play this one first with no problem. +/- Controls are MUCH better than previous games but still a little clunky and obtuse. +/- Music is not nearly as repetitive in this one. Not a great set of music, but it at least doesn't drive you mad, as in previous installments. + Sherlock actually is, dare I say, likable in this game! Funny enough, I found myself…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too abstract at times with very little help from the characters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another solid entry in the series. The game takes place in London only, giving a clear focus to the story, which was thoroughly enjoyable and quite playful. Arsene Lupin was a fun adversary, the puzzles quite logical (at least most of the times) and the pacing good. In general, a major upgrade from The Awakened, the previous entry, where I didn't think the Cthulhu mythos mixed well with Sherlock Holmes. Again, the game is better played in first person view, which is much quicker and more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UI is awful Nobody likes math Clunky controls and steep price for a janky game that often leaves you confused, or unsure what to do. Going back and reading dialogue is insanely annoying without a scroll bar due to the amount of dialogue you have to scroll. Moving around is impossible at times because you get stuck, and forced into cutscenes, even if you didn't interact with something, making it hard to actually find what you're looking for on your own to get a better understanding of the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked playing this game. It has a very good story and nice colors. Pros: + Voice acting. + Fast traveling map. Cons: - Measuring puzzles, where you have to measure footprints, was hard. Mainly because you had to hit the exact pixel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's easier to follow Sherlock Holmes' 4th adventure in comparison to his previous stories because there's not much of a story to talk about. Holmes is hunting master thief Arsène Lupin so all he does is find clues and solve riddles to conclude where Lupin will be next and what he's after. Plain and simple, no plot twists, no deeper meaning. The game's graphics are similar to its predecessor's but I'm happy to report that a sky was added which makes London look a lot friendlier. We get to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is not a bad game, I quite enjoyed the puzzles and the lore. Graphics and sound are decent, however after 6 in game hours I gave up at the raven part of the game simply due to the level design. I enjoyed the museum because although you have to backtrack it is confined to small area, the raven part of the game is so boring and tedious I just couldnt push myself to progress anymore even using a guide. It is just too much running back and forth in this huge area. Ok game but that one level…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The number of puzzles and the difficulty are insane, if you like classic puzzle solving Sherlock Holmes game by Frogware this is for you; however, the story gets too long especially towards the end, it lacks some intensity in its story. Holmes versus Lupin, you would expect intense and fast paced story development, but the pace of this game is a bit slow. Still, a good game overall.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice adventure game, though I expected more Sherlock Holmes habits in the game as well I expected deduction issues included in quests. So it could be the story about any detective not especially Sherlock Holmes. But is not heavy objection from my side. Most of puzzles were interesting, but at the same time some of them challenging, because often was not clear what is needed to mix, what person is necessary to talk with etc. In these cases was very helpful the system of hints - it helped a lot…
