unlabelledView post →Because of how people aged before we stopped allowing smoking indoors, it's impossible to know how old anyone in "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" is. As far as I know, that's what Jerry Stiller looked like at 17.
unlabelledView post →A couple of things for people responding to this: The student in question said they did not watch ANY films or television, only YouTube. My 15-y-o knows who Cary Grant is and also understands that The Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 is sheer perfection. Teach your children well, y’all.
unlabelledView post →Best low key scene in The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (1974) is the crowd behind the cops erupts in boos, and one turns around and says "oh great, it's the mayor" The mayor is never seen on-screen again

unlabelledView post →Sad we never got the sequel The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3 2
unlabelledView post →THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1, 2, 3 is one of the best suspense movies ever made and no matter how much love it gets, it deserves more. It's the 70s, hijackings are (relatively) low stakes, everything is brown, and Walter Matthau is a heroic public transit employee. None of it translates to 2025 and yet.
unlabelledView post →Using this skeet as a test of who's done the homework (watched the finest documentary ever about municipal government, The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3)
unlabelledView post →Transit Police Lt. Zack Garber (Walter Matthau) matches wits with a polished band of criminals holding hostages in the N.Y.C. subway in "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" (1974) — a testament to society's growing anxiety over terrorism, street crime and urban decay. #CrimeFilm

If you just sit quietly and let everyone forget about you, you can stay up way past your bedtime and watch The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3.

unlabelledView post →this happened again, same bar, declaring that the remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 was J-Lo's cinema debut (its not, and i was thinking of Money Train. a friendly bar patron got very mad)
unlabelledView post →62. An absolute cracking thriller “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” does all the basics so well it makes it look easy. Only the fact that very few thrillers are anywhere near this good shows it isn’t. Shaw is the standout here - intelligent, dangerous but also utterly engaging - but everyone’s great
unlabelledView post →Not sure who needs to hear this, but Walter Matthau, for many, many years, was the fucking man in Hollywood. Some of my personal favorites, pictured here: Charley Varrick, Fail Safe, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Hopscotch
unlabelledView post →TIL there was a 1998 TV movie remake of The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3 starring Edward James Olmos and Vincent D’onofrio. Tubi is truly undefeated.

unlabelledView post →wn The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3. Good value, so far. They actually take Pelham 123 pretty early in the film and while it would have been fair to roll credits right there, they push on to show much of the aftermath of the taking of pelham 123

unlabelledView post →The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 would have lost some of its tension if you'd been in the Walter Matthau role.

unlabelledView post →I think it is time to watch the original "The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3" again.
unlabelledView post →There’s a really great commentary track on the Kino release of this film with John Frakenheimer talking about making it. Also other great train films: The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 (1970s heist film) Runaway Train (prison break) Unstoppable (big dumb Tony Scott action movie)
unlabelledView post →I’ll re-watch Hopscotch, Charlie Varrick, and The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3 to honor him. My second fav actor behind Bogie.
unlabelledView post →Having recently gotten into 70s films myself thanks largely to THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3, I can understand why. : |
unlabelledView post →Joseph Sargent and Walter Matthau together again after The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 for a courtroom drama. A Few Good Men and Bridge of Spies given the Hallmark TV movie spin - but with a great Matthau turn as a country lawyer. It's not a great film, but I've seen better films I've liked a lot less.

unlabelledView post →From a layman's perspective, the Next Big Broadway musical seems to be a process where someone just pulls a random movie name out of a hat. "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3? Um...if you say so."
unlabelledView post →My Letterboxd review of THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3 (1974). An utterly SURPRISING film that finds novelty in how it blends suspense with comedy, resulting in a utterly charming viewing experience, and one of the most quintessentially New York films ever made! Walter Mattheau is INCREDIBLE in this!
unlabelledView post →I hope she does show up and gets booed so hard they remake THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3 again, to be clear

unlabelledView post →…movie time!… …for October, I've been thinking about catching some of these so-called horror 'classics' that have come out in the '70s & later… …a few by John Carpenter… …but first, a film of his I used to see on early cable…or maybe I have it confused with The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3… …we'll see…
