Tried to pick this game back up multiple times. The game has a great art style and soundtrack fits the feel. However the loop is not fun. The worst part about dying isn't the reset, it's because you replay the tutorial every. single. time. After a few deaths you just quit out of annoyance. The game is challenging but not impossible and is similar enough on each loop for you to learn from your mistakes. I just can't give this a thumbs up when I don't even want to finish a loop. I regret my…

So, this game will definitely impress you the first 30 minutes. The artwork is amazing, music fits the theme, characters are cute, animations are done very well, and the story seems like it's going to be good. You're working your way through the tutorial, excited for a fun, cute, dungeon crawler type adventure. Then the tutorial ends... and... It just isn't fun. The story isn't exciting after the tutorial, none of the NPCs have anything interesting to say, the quests are extremely boring…

Solid Rogue-lite. The "Mixed" rating for this game is a travesty, it does not deserve a rating that low. Most of the negative reviews appear to be people that didn't realize this was a Rogue-like/lite game: -Yes, you start over when you die (but can spend currency you earned during that playthru to send items to your next character. - No, you don't go thru the whole "tutorial" again -- its your traditional Rogue-like/lite gameplay loop.

Alright, listen. I skimmed some of the other reviews to try and find out why this game still holds a "Mixed" rating on Steam, but there doesn't seem to be a consistent consensus on why, so I'm just gonna talk about it like those reviews don't exist, because this is a very enjoyable little game! Following in the vein of Adventure Time: Secret of The Nameless Kingdom, The Swords of Ditto seeks to combine classic top-down-Zelda-like gameplay with a cute, hand-drawn cartoon feel (in this case,…

It doesn't take long to realize the progression feels empty and each new run feels essentially the same as the last. Makes it feel like the rogue-lite elements are kind of pointless which hurts because the effort put into this might've been better to craft it into an more Zelda-like adventure than the unsatisfying rogue-lite elements in it's place. Although it is cool how each new run is integrated into the storytelling, instead of the typical game-over followed by just restarting.

Art style is good. Gameplay and music is mediocre. Pacing is very poor. Walking around is very slow. Dungeons are very simple but mostly uninteresting. There were 2 dungeons with the exact same layout, If the character could move faster and design of the world and dungeons were more enjoyable, then maybe this would be a better game. I don't see why this is a roguelike. I got to level 6 and I had "one day left" to fight Mormo. But my boredom got the better of me and I uninstalled. 4…

The early parts are great, the later parts are a slog. Every time you beat the final boss or die a new world is generated and the enemy level cap increases. Your upgrades don't scale well enough with the late game enemies and the worlds aren't different enough to stay interesting. You also are required to beat the game about 5-6 times to get an ending. I enjoyed the art, music, and gameplay but the scaling was too frustrating.

I had a great time playing it. The new version of the game makes it far more enjoyable now. I did not need a wiki to understand how to play the game and progressively learned how to beat it. It was funny, it was challenging, It was not too short, not too long. It was colorful and and the OST is excellent. I will remember this game with a smile on my face and some great tunes playing in my head.

Got some games in this week. Raccoin for casual time. Got bodied by Primal Groudon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX and I’m nearing my first end game attempt on The Swords of Ditto. Sold off some old Pokémon cards and paid bills. Still doing illustrations but can’t share until after they’re delivered.

Everything in Swords Of Ditto is very enjoyable, except the actual game, which fell on its own sword barely five minutes in. Like, seriously, how can any developer (or publisher, for that matter) look at those controls and claim it's all fine? How can you settle on movement that is both sluggish and inaccurate?

Looks like a great game but the developer appears to be closed down and it does not work with two xbox controllers. Other people in the forum seem to have similar issues. Requested refund. Shame since it looked fun for local co-op but the bindings for 2nd player were all messed up.

At first, I thought the game was a bit plodding and didn't like the feel of combat (which is the core of the whole game). After a couple of runs, I liked the combat more, but the game less. The reason is basically just that the game is riddled with frustrating bugs. Since the stages are all randomly generated, there are a lot of configurations where some caves are simply inaccessible -- for instance, you need to have the golf club to hit a ball into a hole which unlocks a door. Easy enough,…

The fact this is sitting at Mixed reviews utterly flabbergasts me. I can only assume it's from people expecting this to be a clone of Zelda - it isn't, not by a longshot. If that's what you're hoping for, you'll not enjoy this. Swords of Ditto does have a few elements shared with older Zelda titles - unlocking new gadgets can unlock options for areas previously explored, and each area is a distinct tile that you travel between. You also have a limited loadout of things to use that you can…

Soft pass. The game is beautiful. The sound direction is fantastic. The direct writing is... it's too aloof, it doesn't work to draw me in. The game doesn't respect your time. Each loop acts like you need to go through the tutorialising, which was already quite a chore to stomach the writing. I can't abide this. Maybe I could enjoy this in co-op, but I don't want to convince anyone to try it with me.

Unfortunately, Ditto mistakes something taking a long time, for it being difficult. The game just becomes more and more of a slog. Intentionally. And each time you "beat" it, it takes away all your stuff and resets the map. That's just... not a good design choice.

It's a very beautiful game – the art direction is wonderful. However, gameplay-wise, it's just too slow, dull and repetitive, the roguelite system is tacked on and largely demotivating in how it's integrated, the leveling system makes no sense to me and the builds are too shallow. Would have benefited greatly from a more linear storytelling and less pointless grinding.

if you're looking for a simple but very good looking roguelite, this is a very solid and fun game. The negative reviews are probably complaining about hardcore mechanics (completely reworked on later updates) or too high expectations for a game that aims to be nothing more than a short charming adventure. Go in with low expectations and you'll be surprised by how much fun you'll be having. Definitely recommend if you can buy for less then 10 bucks. So wishlist it and wait for a sale.

Full disclosure: I played "The Swords of Ditto: Mormo's Curse" through one run, where I successfully beat Mormo. I tried the next run and just could not stand playing any longer. 1) The Swords of Ditto: Mormo's Curse Really enjoyed this cutesy cartoony top-down-Zelda-like game. It's not appropriate to call it a "roguelike", but it does require some recursion to see the story all the way through. It's also a lot tougher than the art style would seem to let on!

Really needs a "Controller recommended" screen on start up. The controls for keyboard by default are just awful. Not to mention it bugs out when trying to select dialogue with mouse so sometimes you just cant select things. Not to mention in the tutorial it shows controller icons sometimes even if you're on keyboard. If you're going to require controller at least say that somewhere.

This game is obviously a labor of love. Even in my 10th run, I still spot items and art that I have not seen before. If the game would stick only to good parts, i.e. offering a beautiful illustrated cheerful, and light-hearted classic Zelda-esque RPG experience (with Roguelite-elements), we would talk about a hit. Unfortunately, the game has a not-so-enjoyable progression system, that renders replay value as replay duty, and some nasty bugs that make it so that you cannot always achieve your…

I appreciate this game. It seems like an unashamed love letter to Link to the Past era Zelda, but putting it into a roguelite shell. That doesn't seem easy. Not really excited that this game wants to continue the legacy chore of forcing us to cut thousands of bushes every playthrough for no reason, but the good things about the game make stuff like this not a big deal. Genuinely cute world/aesthetic. Unfortunately combat is really lacking after you figure out the game and your battle…

Nah, it looking like a fun little Zelda adventure you can complete at your own pace, but that's the bait. When you start playing it becomes a roguelike where your failures means you'll be stuck playing the same recycled and remixed asset dungeons over while being on a clock while exploring the overworld. Cutesy graphics but the game play makes one feel stressed, annoyed and anxious instead of curious and joyful to explore it's world.

Overall, its a charming little game, but with some issues that hold it back. The gameplay is basic but serviceable. The basic loop is you do quests/dungeons and get items to become stronger, do more things to get even stronger, then face the final boss. It's not nonstop fighting like some other roguelikes, you can just run through the overworld for the most part if you like. It's however, at least on normal, a bit too easy. Despite it's awesome cartoony graphics and childish theme it's a rougelike with some, let's call them "interesting" design decisions: - You have to beat the game at least five times (Two if you use a glitch.) to get to the real end. There's enough RND and different graphic sets to add a bit of variety but the core game stays the same. Decent fun time-killer but things get grindy and repetitive after few cycles, I've met game-breaking bugs too (room perma-locked), frustrated but fortunately I could still skip the toy dungeon to progress. Some mechanics (i.e. crowned enemies) are never explained, had to look online for info. Nice cartoony graphic and play smooth though.
