Devs pumped grind like x3-x5 times to already quite grindy game without too much content added (extra wizard and boss and that's it, the rest is just fluff). Third of achivements are extremely dull and requires a lot of playtime without any challenge except patience. Spicy content of extra covenants locked behind insane grind. You need to play probably 20-30 matches (maybe more) to reach max level of a wizard, then reset and repeat again just to unlock one covenant.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 1.0 update has removed the ability to unlock characters through completing achievements, and instead must be purchased with in-game gold that you grind for, which you were already spending on giving yourself permanent upgrades. Said permanent upgrades have been changed to cost a lot more money in order to artificially inflate the grind, and it feels not so great to play
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Updated thoughts after the 1.0 update I originally reviewed this game as “mixed” because while the core gameplay was incredibly fun, it felt like it lacked the content and polish needed for long-term replayability. After spending a good amount of time with the 1.0 update, I can confidently say my opinion has improved a lot. The core gameplay loop is still the same chaotic action roguelike experience, but the game now feels far more polished and complete. Around 80% of the UI has been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disclaimer: giving this a positive since there is no neutral option, and the fun I used to have with this game doesn't deserve a negative. So this one literally came out of Early Access two days ago. In Early Access it was fun. 1.0 came with such an exponential level of grind that the game Grind Survivors doesn’t feel true to it’s name anymore. They reworked a bunch of systems for full release which is fine. First huge grind increase is you now get less game currency (no there is no…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At the end the opinion is shorter The release was genuinely disappointing, especially for people who actually like the project. What makes it worse is that this seems to be the majority opinion — even if the reasons vary a bit, it still leaves a stain on the game’s reputation and how it’s perceived. The sense of fun just… disappeared. As someone who’s not new to the game, it’s frustrating to see not only a lack of meaningful changes, but things actually getting worse. I genuinely don’t…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The GRIND Brigade. More mindless grind than actual content. Probably the "Survivor-like" with the least amount of content. No multiplayer region lock = perma lag all day every day. I'm in NA East and I'm constantly paired with players from Asia. Then there's the patching cycle of "fix something, break something". Fun for an hour at a time with some friends. Decent visuals for the genre.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No reconnection! Me and my friends played multiple time. and need to reset because 1 friend disconnected. Need to add reconnection function
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The grind is insane. You play a match, which takes about 45 minutes in multiplayer, only to get enough gold to buy one measly upgrade out of dozens upon dozens. Let alone the grind needed to ascend a character. It would take hundreds of hours to unlock everything (not even the cosmetics). It gets quite repetitive after a dozen games. I'd spend my money on another survivor-like game instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a bad game, but as a roguelike lover this just doesn't live up to other games in the genre. I really tried giving it a shot (15+ hours over several months) but I just found there isn't much variety in builds, with only a handful of spells, half of which are kind of bad, the elemental infusions don't really change gameplay that much in my experience, and the minigame objectives range from boring to actively frustrating (the stupid football minigame). There are far worse ways to spend…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Originally, when my group picked this up, we thought it would be a good one off experience for all us to try. A multiplayer Survivor-like sounds great in paper and we definitely thought, for $10, why not? Lo and behold, every single week, we keep coming back to this game, which we affectionately call “Lil Wizzies”. The perfection is in its simplicity — a few boards, a bunch of little wizards with different skillsets, endless combinations of builds. Do we need some more music and soundscape…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In a sea of survivor games this one was surprisingly boring. I was hooked on the Demo but the full experience (well, EA to 1.0) offers almost no variety in gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: After 1.0, a lot of the issues I had with the game were NOT properly addressed, and require more time to be developed. I wanted wizards to be unlocked in different ways, but locking them behind gold was NOT the solution I was hoping for. It adds a lot of tedium and grind. Game is currently not worth the price unless you just want to grind an borderline idle-game and needs to be developed further. If there's one word I would use to describe this game, it'd be "potential". I would…

unlabelledView post →don't recommend right now but i feel there is a lot of potential! i enjoyed the premise of the game but i feel like the spells don't scale very well. i also feel that there is a bit of a balance issue in the higher difficulties. it also takes soooo long to unlock new wizards, and with the previously mentioned issues, makes the gameplay quite repetitive and feel like a chore.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love this game. It leans just right into the whimsy and goofiness while still keeping you sweating on the higher difficulties. The spell combinations are awesome and fun, and thematically pull you in. It has something great going on with the character design, at least insofar as appearance and presentation goes. The game could do with some balancing, especially for some of the augments when there are clearly some worse options than others. The base game loop is fun and has a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked the game in early access. I liked the game through most of its updates. I don't understand what happened with 1.0. There is simply no excuse for the kind of grind I see in game now. The gold, the prestige restart, the prices for enchantments and the quest difficulty to unlock new covenants all have to be drastically decreased. Early access had sane prices enjoyable gameplay and I had only good things to say. But this is a joke. I understand that maybe the game may have seemed easy for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game clearly made by a visual designer first and the rest later. It lacks in gameplay and creativity and expression of the player. The game is looking great, handles great, the controls work really great, multiplayer has no issues as far as I have noticed, you can play with friends which is awesome. BUT gameplay is so thin, the game design is just not there. The game gives you spells but all spells are a starting spell from another wizard so there's nothing unique to find and you don't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →leaving this review after returning to the game, having played on its initial release around 2 years ago. while there is plenty to appreciate about spell brigade, the biggest win for this game comes by the art department. the art style, graphics, and animation just feel good to experience in real time, running and dodging is fun, and it has a welcoming energy to it that few games replicate. that said, the underlying actual meat and potatoes, the game design of the survivor-like; is severely…

unlabelledView post →Better before 1.0 Given how much repeating grind there is, it looks like you will never reach the covanents that might freshen up the gameplay again. Game has/had potential and is still decent fun with friends in co-op. Sadly 1.0 did not improve on the pain points of the game, rather removed features like unlocking wizards via challenges and introduced big grinding instead. Would not recommend to buy in this state, no idea what devs where trying to do here..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fair warning, this is VERY long even though I left out a bunch of stuff. TL;DR is - pretty good game with a lot of potential, missteps with the 1.0 release making the game incredibly grindy (even for this genre) and even less playable for those wanting to go solo. I do not recommend it in its current state, but the developers can definitely improve it and have been very receptive and community-oriented during EA. Edit: I was able to restore my save so this may be generally possible but not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely LOOOVE this game!!! The animation is really cute, playability's smooth, maps are nicely done, character's are well made (and thought) with nice skins. There's a lot that is just amazing. I do think they should have a wider variety of upgrade options, but I do also know the game's still developing and growing, so it's all good. But in short, this is my favorite game in this style, def recommend it. <3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to read reviews - then this one is for you. The Spell Brigade - 7/10 It's seen some updates since the first time I played it, came back to it, and honestly got hooked. * It's simple chaotic fun (I don't usually care for this style of gameplay which is a HUGE compliment) * It has a nice lobby setup format, difficulty and spell/character roster * Mechanics are straightforward and easy to understand for the most part * Solo and Co-Op modes * Overall it's worth the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not fun. Krog'wa will be the boss like 80% of the time. On the two endless runs I did, I was getting him 5 times to 1 Sol'phish. Endless mode is literally just repeating the same level over and over: start easy, do 4 objectives, gets harder, fight boss, repeat... It doesn't seem like the enemies ramp up fast enough either and you can become unkillable (IDK, maybe it's different at max difficulty). The objectives are okay but after a bit I found myself skipping 'Unstable Spell…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I, as a general rule, don’t play reflex-based games. If something needs me to respond quickly by pressing the correct button, I, by and large, will neither respond nor press the correct button. It’s not who I am, it’s not how I game, and I’ve come to terms with that. There is one exception. Spell Brigade is a bullet heaven roguelike. You - and potentially your friends/internet randos - play as one of several wizards dropped into a battlefield where the only goal is survival. Facing wave…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game to play on the Steam Deck. Well worth the money with amount of content already existing, but also with the regular updates we get for this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun, but... -Needs to be better optimized (game gets super laggy in endless mode) -If your internet drops for 2 seconds while playing with friends you are booted and cannot rejoin. Hope this game receives updates!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I understand the will to make something unique in the genre, but the way this game does it just makes your character feel like this blackout drunk whimsical forest creature with zero will to live, and instead of trying to defeat your enemies quickly (and a lot of the enemies here kind of imply that you need to target them first), you are just forced to keep running around in circles and avoid walking into danger in hopes that enough of your wildly uncontrollable and unsatisfyingly weak spells…

unlabelledView post →This is a good "brain off, wizard on" game. You run around commiting magical war crimes with your friends while the screen becomes increasingly unreadable, which just adds to the fun and chaos. The gameplay is easy to pickup and chill enough that you can watch YouTube on the side...at the start, but the difficulty scales the deeper into a run you go, the chaos will quietly sneak in and humble you if you aren't careful. Playing solo is alright, but playing with friends is what really…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love The Spell Brigade! I have always dreamd to be biggest burden for my friends. I'm dying all the time but it's not my fault, they are just picking wrong augmentations and don't choose healing ones. I just want to run around and collect as much mushrooms as I can and they are telling me something about critical damage and big weapons. Who cares? It's not the size that matters. I can't collect a lot of mushrooms if I'm not fast enough! Anyway I am really loving the game. You should play it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a perfect mindless escape. Too intense to use your brain to think about anything else while playing, but also super low stakes and amusing. 10 points for the blipping sound when you collect mana - it is satisfying af. Being an early access player was also a blast, and it's been fun watching the game upgrade.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very polished and runs great on deck. Familiar bullet heaven tropes, can't speak for the multiplayer as only played solo. Grinding was a REAL slog on launch, like way too much. Devs are listening and from 1.0 it's much better. One of the better bullet heavens.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Over one million of you have played The Spell Brigade! ONE. MILLION. Seeing this many players discover the game, stick with it through Early Access, and shape what it became - genuinely feels surreal. Thank you, from all of us. Truly ❤️
unlabelledView post →Ocean Beautiful, Puddle Deep This game looks good & controls well, but the progression is poor. What you do in hour 30 is the same as what you did in hour 1, just with boosted stats
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just boring. Might just be me, but every run feels the same as the last, with maybe a slight change of scenery. It's an ok game, but I could get a similar experience with almost any other generic roguelike.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →balancing all over the place investing in upgrades does not feel like i actually get stronger just does not feel like it matters investing the money in any power or anything else just simply pointless still after new update gold is better yes but not much changes in feeling stronger it still seems pointless no matter how much upgrades in the skill tree there is soulstone survivors is much better but does not have co op but soulstone is a much better bullet heaven game just play that

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing this game since it came out and as simple as it is, this game has been my go-to games with my friends whenever we want a break from everything else and just chill and have fun together. You really appreicate the updates especially since I started playing at the start and see how the game slowly improves for the better and having more spells and characters and outfits, makes it really fun! 10/10 Game

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For lack of other working co-op bullet hells, this is a good, fun game. That said, it’s only a matter of time before someone more capable releases a working product that’s more fun and definitely better optimized (this is the biggest obstacle in the endless runs).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, If you have A.D.D its the game for you. My attention span at 42 is varied, but once i loaded up this game and figured it out. I have literally been non stop playing. The only gripe.... its the music, its way to basic and needs a facelift
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game but too rng. The inability to reroll on build breaking traits, (forcing a reset) while allowing rerolls on others that don't really matter makes the game needlessly annoying to play sometimes when trying to complete certain quests. Looking at you Ludwig! I have run him at least 30 times, lost count sometime afterwards to get that stupid venom infuse and still can't get it to pop. Infuses REALLY need rerolls.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun, especially with a partner but damn its so unbalanced, there is a very very big difference in good and bad spells/buffs/characters. HUGE. People argue that you can make all chars and spells work, sure.. But others are still much better and just smoother to use. Since it can be played Co-Op, i do recommend it, it is fun. But I think if more of these kind of games had Co-Op, they would outshine this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay: 9/10 Graphics & Sound: 7/10 ✔️ Excellent co-op roguelike. ✔️ Very cool roster of diverse characters and unlockable spells. ✔️ The music is pretty rad. ✔️ Visually the game is pretty polished, and character designs are creative. 💭 The game lacks a bit of content on the long run. Since most content diversity comes from unlockable characters and meta-progression, the game environment doesn't change much. I wish there was more map, event, and enemy diversity in a meaningful way. 💭 The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty good game, tho bell guy is horrendous and having the plant ability heal u, also activates other upgrades like "ice" so u are permanently slowed, that makes no sense
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is heavily grindy, there's too much fighting against you, from getting locked off certain builds or even getting upgrades that you don't want. You have so little agency on how you can tackle with the game to the point that the only correct solution is to grind for enchantments. But because of how much enchantments and characters costs, combine that with how little money you can get and how far down the enchantment tree you get the enchantment of getting more gold (For as little as 25%…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game. if you enjoy vampire survivors type gameplay this has a bunch of stuff you'll like and getting to play with others is very fun. The matchmaking works great to play with strangers if you don't have friends set up and the chat is using hotkeys so there isn't any ego to deal with. I'd imagine it would be fun to play with friends and laugh at each other. To play with Friendly Fire off, you need to select a Covenant which is an empty bubble at the bottom right when you get ready to…
