positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've already played this game twice, once in its original form and again in the Japan HD remaster. I bought this version to show my support for Innocent Grey and Shiravune, and I'm crossing my fingers that they'll release the third installment of the trilogy on Steam soon. If you enjoyed the first game and you're into dark and gritty detective tales, this one is a definite must-play! And make sure to grab the patch from the Shiravune website for the full 100% experience

Review The Shell Part II: Purgatory is the second installment in the Kara no Shoujo series of visual novels, and follows the detective from the previous game (Reiji Tokisaka) in a new criminal investigation, full of suspects, murders,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This experience was phenomenal, I could share countless impressions yet also struggle to even begin expressing any of them. My expectations were already high after the first part, and they got exceeded as well! No idea how the writer does it, but reading the story simply felt so smooth and nearly addictive, it was hard to stop at times (>u<). I find the writing of the series incredible as a whole; the way the plot is structured feels well balanced and manages being engaging all along. The…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm truly baffled how this game manages to top literally everything the first one did in terms of mystery, story engagement and dare I say art and presentation only to kill my enjoyment quite so severly. I liked this one, it's also way more stream-lined than the first and locking us into a specific ending, finding out things to then go back from the beginning but with more scenes felt rewarding. Until it didn't. I am already closing both eyes and ears to all the optional H-scenes for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was almost able to forget the horror beyond human comprehension that i witnessed in part1, thanks for fixing that Shiravune
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved the first one. The second one was even better. I can't wait for the third one. At this point, mere words can't do justice to the strong feelings I have towards this series and its characters. I will carry with me, the fond memories of this series and these characters, to my final days. I envy anyone who will get to experience this for the first time. Rest well, my sweet princess.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fantastic visual novel The art and CGs are great The story is fantastic and goes to really dark places The story is really well written but does drag at places Has a lot of build up so the first half can feel a bit slow but all that makes sense once you hit the latter half One hell of an ending and really looking forward to the last one
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah, Kara no Shoujo. Welcome to Purgatorio, pain and suffering in the most fun possible way. The first game was so damn good, and then Innocent Grey hits you with this. I've never read such a disgustingly good, infinitely layered onion of a mystery that leaves you wont for nothing. It goes so much further, so much deeper than the first game, that it feels like another story entirely. It starts slow, bringing you to a nowhere town with a story that you might think you don't care about...until it…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →omg i hate this series after my goat tojiko died nothing good has ever happened since. This whole thing is just depressing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, I consider THE SHELL Part 2, also known as Kara no Shoujo the Second Episode HD, an improvement over the original. That said, I can see why some might view it as a downgrade if they are staunch believers in KnS1. KnS2 is similar to the original in that it remains a murder mystery game with gruesome killings and shares a writing style that features protagonist Reiji Tokisaka, a private detective. However, the settings, characters, and thematic focuses are quite different from the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10/10 Absolutely phenomenal story. One of of my all-time favorite murder mysteries I've experienced in any media. I was hyper-invested into this game from start to finish and I can't wait to see how the third entry concludes the story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey, long time no see, huh? I really missed you, you know. It's sad that we'll never see each other again, but I'll always be with you. So I'll never be lonely again.... The Shell Part II: Purgatorio
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Part 2 out, hopefully it's not too long before Part 3 is translated. Really liked this one, not as depressing as the first part but there's still (almost) no happy ends in sight. In case someone new is going through it for the first time the one thing I would say is to be patient, you do get some answers about what happens after Part 1.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A noticeable improvement over the first game. A sequel that decides to tell it's own story but succeeds in avoiding pitfalls from the previous game. For the uninitiated, the Shell is a murder mystery VN set in 1950s Japan, where we follow Reiji, an ex-cop turnt PI as he investigates a series of gruesome murders. You can check out my Part I review to get the gist of what the Shell series is about. My review for Part II is mainly going to be a response to all the critisms I had for Part I as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Shell Part II: Purgatorio is a deeply atmospheric detective visual novel that combines murder mystery, psychological drama, historical intrigue, and unsettling themes into a carefully constructed continuation of its predecessor. Developed by Innocent Grey and published by Shiravune, the game follows detective Reiji Tokisaka as he becomes involved in another complicated investigation while still carrying the emotional burden of an unresolved disappearance. Its measured pacing and emphasis on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite visual novels. I love the switch of perspective between the two different characters and time periods. I'm currently reading the 3rd and final novel in this series, but so far this one has still stuck out as my favorite. A wonderful murder mystery that left me guessing until the end.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →story of obsession and how they weave ourselves what an amazing sequel im genuinely so shook that ending was so gut wrenching i dont know how im supposed to recover from that
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i don't see what all the fuss is about.. the art work is OK, the music is OK. The story is a bit meh.. I honestly feel like the whole series is style over substance.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I put "Not Recommended" in my review of part 1 because of Shiravune's absurd localization style, and it is hardly better here. For example replacing a reference to Osaka with one to New York, and the nickname "Sa-chan' with "Satty", along with most other nicknames. These are jarring, even if you don't know any Japanese, because you can hear the spoken audio contradict the text you're reading. This brings to mind the infamous "jelly doughnuts" scene in 4kids' Pokemon dub. I really think this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You need to install patch to experience full content. The Shell Part 2 has a different vibe and pacing compare to the first game. It went to an ambitious approach which introduces you completely different storyline that feels little to none related to Reiji's story, but eventually it wraps up perfectly. Part 1 can feel disturbing with its dark red UI, 0 sugarcoating guro illustration and the insecure of people around you becoming victim, while Part 2 felt more mysterious and abnormal. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fantastic sequel to the first KnS. The story can get pretty slow, and it sometimes feels like nothing is happening. But the payoff is there, and the story wraps up very well. The true ending though.... :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think it took my soul along with it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One hell of a twisted story but by far the most hooked in i've been with a visual novel. Can't wait for part 3. Ps : same as part 1, please get the uncensored patch as it seriously give you the full experience as it was meant to be read.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →read kara no shoujo 2 when it was first released and localized originally and adored it. Reread it all now with the new translation beautiful translation of a beautiful story. holds its place at the top of visual novels. this is the definitive version of the game now and the new voice actors are also incredible
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Missing a lot of the "horror" from the first title, replacing it with a more standard detective story. Starts out very strong, but most of the mystery is quite easy to figure out early on. I was not especially interested in one of the central plot lines/characters. That all being said, when it works, it really works. The core cast is great and the translation appears to capture the wit of the original, as best as I can tell with my rudimentary Japanese skills. I can't wait for the third…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first half is a bit slow and holy moly the amount of exposition dump during them is surely bigger than the first game. However, the payoff is really well done. It was both emotional and tear jerking, well written! Unlike the first game, which felt like it had two acts stitched together, here the entire game felt like one big act with many subplots in it. That's not to say this game is entirely independent on it's own. For some reason, I feel like I missed something regarding the plot even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In most cases, the sequels tend to be of lesser quality compared to the original/first one. Well, things are actually the opposite here. In comparison to Inferno (Part I), Purgatorio (Part II) is better in terms of story, soundtrack, narrative/storytelling, character design and "things-to-do". I know it starts off a bit slow and confusing with all the new characters, but trust me, the story really picks up and gets super intense. By the time you reach the True Ending, you'll be bawling your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In terms of being a murder mystery, for me this game definitely has a weaker and less ambitious plot than its prequel, the new girls Yukiko and Kohane can't compare to Touko and Tsuzuriko, the music isn't as good as well... yet ultimately I find it a much more enjoyable read. Some of the new (and returning) characters such as Masaki, Touji or Yaginuma have excellent chemistry with the MC Reiji, the narrative feels tighter and is told in a more interesting way, and the humorous bits hit a lot…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In this game I think more simple gameplay than part 1 but the story is more impact for my feeling although I saw the true end in 2019. It's still impact my emotion and feeling therefore, I recommended everyone buy this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100% in 29 hours for a fast reader. Game needs a patch or you game over early. An additional optional patch will remove the mosaics. Will need a guide for 100% but it isn't nearly impossible just to reach an ending like the first. Kara no Shojo II is an experience. It is a very slow burn and is significantly longer than the prequel. It dangles the carrot in front of you every now and then with the ending of the first game. But 98% of the game is about a whole new cast and story. It takes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A dark and tragic detective story in post-war Japan. As twisty as it is depressing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That was so much better than Kara no Shoujo/The Shell Part 1, the story was much more intricate and everything weaved together so nicely. The start felt slow but it makes way more sense when it jumps back to Reiji's POV, without spoiling anything. Easily one of the best VNs I've read. Also still the darkest VN I've read, so much so it makes it hard to smile at the happy parts yk. You'll need a guide to have any chances at getting all endings, it's as impossible as always
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"The undisputed king of the genre — hand over the mystery crown" The Shell Part II: Purgatorio doesn't just raise the bar for visual novels; it takes the throne entirely. If anyone ever dares to claim that visual novels can't rival the absolute highest peaks of mystery fiction, hand them this work of art and end the debate forever. Why it claims the crown: 👑 Unrivaled Narrative Mastery: The way this story weaves its dual timelines, psychological horror, and dark historical noir without a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best fiction ever
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A meticulously crafted story that over the coarse of about 40hrs will weave together a deep and sparse web of mysteries that will each diverge into a seamless multi-layered narrative. It succeeds the first novel in nearly all aspects with a more linear experience, streamlined investigation sequences and H-scenes that are actually relevant compared to the shoehorned counterparts of it's predecessor. Not to mention its phenomenal translation that, though abit cryptic at times with some less than…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Continuing from where part I left off, I'm quite impressed with how they managed to maintain the quality of the story after everything that happened in the first game. Compared to part I, part II wasn't as gruesome or terrifying, but instead felt much more... melancholic, with its slower pacing. Honestly, I’d say the first part felt like getting punched and then having my heart squeezed until it broke. But the second part felt more like being left alone in a lake while slowly drowning. ...What…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good, not quite as good as the first one but it leads into the 3rd one which is one of the best eroge ever made
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While not as gut-wrenchingly tearjerking as the first game, this one delivers a great ending as well. It is a bit like a slogging middle nevertheless though, especially with a certain 'flashback' scene that drags on for about 10 hours. Otherwise absolutely amazing, would recommend. A shame it lacks the gritty logic and deduction focus of the first game though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →rose to her feet
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game - You do spend a crazy amount of time in flashbacks tho
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Story and a big improvement from the first part gameplay and story wise, i really enjoyed my time with it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well, if you like thrillers, fu/ced up stuff/blood and tragedies, I highly recommend this series!! 🖤 it also has a lot of dark humor and some funny situational humor :3 ANYWAYS. THIS VN SERIES IS JUST SO FUC/ING GOOD, ALTHO SAD, STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND 🖤 (the kara no shoujo series, including the prequel cartagra) !! >>>> BUT make sure to GET THE FULL VERSION OF THESE VN GAMES! ^^ (NOT just steam ver.) <<< !! ... the steam version only has the common/prologue available to play!! it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a bit different to Part 1. For example, there are fewer interactive elements and its much harder to make mistakes in the detective puzzles. Part 2 is all amount a deep, complex story that spans generations. There are more characters, and each of those characters have personalities that make every dialogue interesting and unique. The pacing can feel slow at times, but its well worth sticking with. Sit back, read, and take it all in. Its a ride.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot state how much i absolutely adore this game. KnS2 actually grew on me after finishing the trilogy. I wanted more KnS but was drawn to KnS2 first for some reason, then i got why: the atmosphere is just unmatched, the music, the locations, the characters, everything almost seems slower in purgatorio but in a good way, in a calm and composed way, for this reason it became my comfort game. I open it at least a few evenings each week just to be greeted by the main menu and that alone puts…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently my favorite VN. Thorough from start to finish.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As with the first one in the trilogy, get the patch first and foremost, otherwise you are missing out on a ton of content. The game takes place about two years after the true ending from the first game, the game is a great sequel and story in it's own right, tying up some loose ends from the first game, as well as Cartagra, and some sufficient sequel bait, even if it's clear that there was going to be at least a third part straight from the get-go. A lot of the songs from the first game are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you love a story about muder mystery then this is a MUST play you might find first half kinda boring but trust me it was worth it so I will give it 10/10 *Truly masterpiece* [9/10 if you including hscene which I find it too long]
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a such a gripping story. The pacing and setting are a bit different from part 1 but I thought it made it different and really stand out as a squeal. It can be a bit slow, but be patient, once you get into it, it's hard to put this down. I'd recommend just getting the uncensored patch(Seriously, you can't get the true end without it). Some of the choices to get the true end is a bit obtuse too, so if you get stuck in a bad end or are trying to get different ending, just look up a guide.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Goes without saying that you should get the uncensored patch before playing. Before getting into the review proper, I just want to say Shiravune's translation is mostly fine but genuinely unacceptable at other times. There's a line where the Japanese actor says "Maybe I should take you to see Ebisu Bashi in Osaka" but the text says "Maybe I should take you to Times Square in New York". This isn't something that is just me being a Japanese language elitist or anything, this is something anyone…
